I figured it was best not to provoke him. I knew he was telling the truth. I'd already seen Adams' soldiers gunning down marines. He had every right not to trust me. There may have been a part of him that saw I was not a threat, since he didn't shoot me as soon as I cut the rope, but I can't say I blame him for being reluctant to accept that I was an ally.

"This place is infested with… creatures of some kind."

"Yeah, I know. Not sure where any of these came from. All I know is we were told to get rid of them and eliminate any witnesses."

"Witnesses? You mean-"

"Yeah, we were supposed to kill the scientists, security guards, all personnel in the facility."

Suddenly some of the pieces were starting to come together. Why had Adams chosen me of all people for the simple task of obtaining a hard drive? Most likely, he thought I was expendable. The plan all along was to eliminate me in case I saw anything incriminating. Obviously, he wanted someone who could deal with any problems obtaining the drive but who could be eliminated afterwards in case they saw too much, like the creatures infesting the facility or Breen's "arrangement" proving he knew all of this would happen.

The HECU was sent in to silence the scientists, now we were sent in to silence the HECU. Now Adams planned to silence us. I wondered if someone had orders to silence Adams. I will never know how high this went, but it was more complicated than anything we could have expected.

I started to move forward when Grimsberg put his hand on my shoulder. "You first,"

I can't say I blame him for his distrust.

I slowly walked toward the door, careful not to touch the hanging tongue from the ceiling clinger. We approached the door and opened it, entering a large room full of crates, mostly military grade. A series of catwalks adorned a second level.

Suddenly I heard the noise of gunfire, and ducked behind one of the crates. Grimsberg ducked behind another one, across a narrow open space from me.

I remained still as several bullets grazed the edge of the crate. When they stopped, I looked around, and saw an automated turret.

Grimsberg threw a grenade and knocked the turret down. I nervously stood up and walked forward.

"IT'S BISHOP! CONFIRMED SIGHTING!"

"OPEN FIRE!"

I ducked behind one of the crates as the bullets narrowly grazed the edge.

"THEY'RE SHOOTING AT YOU!"

"I told you, I'm a loose end."

I was unarmed at this point. Grimsberg and Mitchell had taken my weapons when they captured me, and in all the chaos of the moment I realized I failed to reclaim them. Not that Grimsberg was likely to trust me with a gun at that point anyway.

He fired a few rounds, managing to take down one of our attackers.

"Guess we're not going out this way," I said. "Maybe this would be a good time to run?"

"I guess so,"

I bolted for the door, running back into the hall, shots still being fired.

"GIVE UP, BISHOP!" One of the operators yelled.

"ADAMS IS USING YOU!" I yelled, vainly hoping I could perhaps convince them to stop, not that they'd hear me over the gunfire.

"Where do we go from here?" Grimsberg yelled.

I looked around, before finally noticing a broken door into what looked like an elevator shaft.

"OVER THERE! QUICKLY!"

I bolted for the shaft, running through the Broken doors. As soon as Grimsberg stepped in, I suddenly noticed something grab him. A long, stringy tongue, that began pulling him up. His shotgun dropped from his hand and landed on the platform.

It was too high above, and too dark for me to see clearly, but I quickly realized it must have been another of those ceiling clingers. I grabbed Grimsberg's shotgun.

"HELP!" He yelled.

I couldn't actually see the clinger, but I could tell its rough placement from where its tongue was hanging. I fired several shots, before suddenly it let go. Grimsberg fell. I reached down and grabbed his hand.

"I GOT YOU!" I said. "Come on!"

I pulled him back up onto the platform.

I looked around, noticing a ladder in front of me, but not very well placed. It was on the opposite side of the shaft from me, with no clear way of getting to it outside of jumping.

So I did. I jumped and grabbed onto the ladder. I climbed down, making my way to the next floor, before climbing off.
