Commander Abbot makes her way down a long drab concrete hallway, heels clicking with every step. Her arms are behind her back and a clear smile adorns her face as she passes steel door after steel door until she reaches the very last one. It is the only one to have a guard outside it, who types a code into a keypad and has the door ready for her. She steps in without even acknowledging him.
The inside of the room, however, is completely different. The walls are a soft painted blue and the floor now a plush carpet that masks her footsteps. There is a single window that gives a view of a red dusty desert complete with cactus. A tumbleweed even rolls by. There is a simple set of wooden furniture consisting of a desk, dresser, bookshelf, and a small cot of a bed in one corner.
Abbot focuses on the figure who seems to have basically thrown themselves on the cot in the most haphazard fashion, facing away from the window very purposefully. She clears her throat loudly, but they don't move an inch. "It seems we have taken very well to this time period, as sulking like a child is quite the common pastime. And here you've been doing it for a week straight. You must be exhausted." Still nothing. Her face shifts to a frown and she just waits.
A horribly long silence goes by before the figure sighs and sits up in the bed, unable to take any more of that stare. It is the Lone Ranger, dressed in the sweats he had been provided with before. "I suppose I have nothing to say." He stands up and physically makes his way to the window, leaning against the frame. "Nothing here is real anyway. I'm not home, no matter how hard you try to pretend I am."
"One would almost think you're upset that the children picked themselves over you," Abbot probes. "I don't know why you're surprised."
"I'm not," he disagrees. "They did… they did what they felt was necessary. I can't fault them for that."
"It is a bit unfair though, isn't it?" Abbot continues. "You show up here all lost and alone, but then they take you under their wing. They treat you nice, dress you up so you fit in… they even take you out for ice cream. You think everything's going to be alright. One of your new friends gets hurt and you spring into action to help them. One action taken too far… and that's it. That's all it takes for all that goodwill and hospitality to shatter. They give up on sending you home and put you here with me… who I'm sure they've made very clear they're not fond of."
He's trying not to get frustrated or let her words in. "They didn't give up on sending me home. I wasn't meant to be here in the first place because you dragged me here with no lesson to teach. You like talk of pawns, well I was just one in your game against her. She's not the reason I'm trapped here. You are."
Abbot decides to try another tactic, stepping up beside him to lean against the other side of the window. "I hear you have stories about her back in your world. Stories of Lori Fitzgerald and how blessed all of you are that she is the one who keeps the book safe. Of this great hero all of you have to protect you. Or have those stories not reached the Old West yet?"
"In my world, we have a capitol of sorts- a central hub where all the different worlds intersect. A lot of people live there, but even more visit there. Tonto and myself included when we needed some supplies or just fancied a visit. And I remember… I remember being in a shop where everyone was flocking the owner. Asking him all sorts of questions about her. What she was like. What she said. And I asked a customer who all this chatter was about. She told me Lori Fitzgerald had opened the book. She was going to help us. And that was just the beginning of the tales. Every time we went to town there seemed to be a new one. A new, fantastic adventure before being safely returned home not a moment later."
"I imagine it must have been quite daunting to meet her in the flesh then? We have stories of your adventures in our world as well. So, in a way, it was a legend meeting a legend."
"Or a disappointment meeting a disappointment," he admits. "I let her down by creating a scene, and she…"
"And you're here." Abbot tries to sound sympathetic, but a note of joy is clear in her voice. This is exactly what she wants to hear.
"I'm here," he repeats, hand knocking on the window pane. "But it probably wasn't her fault. I saw how she looked when she came to tell me. Her Companions probably forced her hand. The Lori I've heard about… she wouldn't. She's a hero through and through. So, I won't sit here blaming her for things out of her control. She'll figure this out and then come and send me home. She won't leave me here with you forever."
There is another long stretch of silence before Abbot speaks up again. "Would you like to see exactly what they all said? When you and I walked away? I can easily show you a recording of the conversation. It's like a picture version of what happened we took in the moment. It'll give you all the answers you need."
He turns to her after a long moment. "I don't think I need to."
"It would grant you peace of mind though, surely. I can't help but notice you haven't been sleeping or eating much. This seems to be weighing heavily on you."
He goes back to sit on the bed, clearly at war with himself before speaking up. "I'd like to see this… recording."
"Very well. I'll be back to retrieve you in a bit. I just need to contact our undercover operative first." With that, she heads for the door. "You're doing the right thing. You need to look out for you. Especially since no one else seems to be." With those last words, she exits and the door clicks shut behind her. The Lone Ranger merely lays back on the bed to stare at the ceiling, completely lost once again.

Meanwhile, Andrew Parker sits in the front row of a smaller classroom taking diligent notes on the professor's lecture as he stirs the cup of coffee he has brought. He doesn't notice a trio of girls behind him watching and occasionally whispering to one another.
"Can anyone tell me why this is?" the professor inquires. Andrew's hand shoots up, revealing that the spoon is still stirring itself in the coffee. The professor notices this and smiles fondly. "Seems we're still up to our old parlor tricks Mr. Parker?"
"Have to try them out somehow Doctor Stewart," he smiles back. "I do have the answer though as well if you want it." The professor nods. "It's because it's a categorical variable rather than numerical."
"Correct." Andrew smiles and pulls the spoon from the coffee with a smile. He goes to take a sip. "And looking at the clock that about does it for today. Shame you spent so much time stirring it." Andrew puts down the mug with a smile, shrugging. He goes to gather up his belonging as the girls argue in a whisper behind him, one slowly turning red. Finally, one of the other ones gives her a shove and she rushes to catch up with him.
"Andrew!" He smiles and holds the door open for her. She's a very pretty girl with long red hair in a braid and freckles dotting her nose. She flashes him a bright smile that he reciprocates. She glances down at the coffee. "How do you do it?"
"Magician never reveals their secrets Bess," he waves his finger at her. She laughs, turns to look at her friends behind her who both flash a thumbs-up before turning back.
"So… what are your plans for this weekend?" she almost blurts, turning a bit red.
He shrugs. "Depends on what kind of trouble Fitz and my friends drag me into. Michael was talking about needing a night movie… movie night. Sorry."
"Not a problem," she says quickly.
"You?"
"Well… I was wondering… you see… ha… now I'm starting to sound like you, aren't I?" He just waits and she decides to put it out there. "I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go see a movie with me this weekend?"
"Sounds like fun. Who's going? Melissa and Tanya I presume. I could invite- "
"Actually, I was thinking it could just be you and me…"
He comes to a halt, seeming to realize her meaning. "You're… you're asking me on a date? You and me?"
She starts backpedaling. "You know… this was silly. Just forget I ever said anything."
"No," he stops her. "No. I just… I wasn't expecting that. I didn't know… I didn't think anyone liked me like that."
"How can you not? You're so funny and smart and you always know exactly what to do to make someone smile. You're just… I noticed that you seem pretty great." She bites her lip as he seems to be lost in thought. "But if you're not interested, it's fine. We can just forget-"
"Let me make sure I'm free," he interrupts. "I'll make sure I've got nothing going on and get back to you on class Friday. I know it's not quite what you're looking for and sorry I'm about that… I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Just… give me a couple of days to make sure."
She thinks on this a moment before nodding. "Okay. I'll take it. It's better than a no I suppose. I will see you on Friday for class then." They both stand there awkwardly for a moment as if waiting for something. Finally, she leans in just a touch to pat him on the arm only for him to pull right back out of reach.
"Sorry. Sorry. Germ thing," he tries to explain. "I'm not a fan of… being touched. It's… it's a work in progress right now."
"Right. Of course." She takes a step back, clearly upset at the turn this whole thing has taken despite trying to be brave. "I will see you on Friday then." She turns right around and starts back to where her two friends are waiting.
"Have a magical one!" Andrew shouts after her, only to completely sag at the shoulders once they're all out of sight.
"Well, that there was the biggest disas'er I've ever seen," a voice with a deep accent comments.
"I know," Andrew sighs, only to look around and see no one standing around him. He begins spinning to find the voice as they continue.
"I mean, I've seen plenty of folks unlucky in love, but you… shucks you just might take the cake." He finally comes to a stop as he notices a blinking light upon his shoulder. "I mean, she's probably goin' home and cryin' right now." He immediately recognizes the light for what it is.
"Ray?!"
The light floats up in front of his face, giving him a clearer view of the firefly currently speaking to him. "Yes, indeed I am. I wasn't expectin' to be recognized. Louis is gonna' be so jealous I'm more famous than he is. But yes, I am Raymond, but you can call me Ray. And you are clearly in some desperate need of assistance."

"And that's when I decided I was needin' to get in the middle of things, so I flew right up to amend the situation," Ray regales the table in the cafeteria during dinner. Andrew is just staring at his empty plate at this point while his friends are all looking at him: Jessica Timmermans, Kaity Klingbeil, Ben Prescott, Charlie Prescott, Lori Fitzgerald, Michael Harms, Hannah Frost, Finch Hale, and Rachel Ellis. Some look ready to burst into laughter while others verge more towards mortified. He finally locks eyes with Lori, whose expression is almost impossible to read.
"Please tell me it went better than that," Rachel requests. "Because that sounds like I'm never showing my face in class again material."
"It… he exaggerated a bit," Andrew tries. He puts his head in his hands. "The touching part is completely true though unfortunately."
"The boy just does not know how to handle the female type," Ray sympathizes. "But don't put yourself down too much par'ner. I was just like you until I met my Evangeline."
"I swear I used to be better at this," Andrew sighs. "I didn't used to be the guy who went around making girls cry when they approached him."
"I'm sure they were all flocking to you," Ben rolls his eyes. "I kind of don't understand the appeal honestly. You do some goofy things in class and all of a sudden girls are flocking around you?"
"Ben," Kaity shuts him down promptly with a warning. "I can see it. He's got the messy hair, the cute stutter, and the whole magic thing really pulls the ladies in."
"Okay, no the magic thing does not," Rachel disagrees. Andrew is turning red himself at this point. Jess meanwhile had taken her plate and physically removes herself from the table, wanting no part of this. "I wouldn't date a magician if my life depended on it. No offense."
"And can we not call the stutter cute?" Michael voices. "It just… it doesn't seem right."
"I'm just saying I would date you," Katie concludes, crossing her arms.
Ben turn to her, appalled. "I'm right here!"
She gives him a nod. "I know. I'm just saying. I can see what Bess sees in him. He would have been nonthreatening enough I totally would have thought he could handle the crazy bipolar chick."
"Now that's love," Ray whistles.
"What are you going to say?" Hannah cuts in, done with this nonsense. "I mean, do you like her the way she likes you?"
"I don't…" Andrew stutters. "I don't know her honestly. We've talked a few times, but I couldn't tell you much about her."
"Then you should do it," Ben suggests. Andrew just glares at him. "For once, I'm being completely serious with you. You should go for it and take a chance. This girl… she could be the one and you're never going to know it unless you give her a chance. You owe it yourself and to her. I mean, she just put herself out there in a way a lot of us wouldn't."
"But you don't owe her anything," Rachel cuts in. Hannah gives a firm nod. "If you don't feel that way about her, then it wouldn't be alright to keep stringing her along and thinking she has a chance when you're not feeling anything on your end. You both deserve to be happy… together or apart."
"I'm sorry, but where is this wealth of relationship advice coming from?" Ben questions. "Last time I checked, the boy you liked had a crush on a projection." Kaity elbows him hard. Jess has stepped back for a moment, but at hearing this she immediately is out the door again.
Rachel flinches. "If I could find your throat right now, Ben Prescott, you wouldn't be breathing."
Finch frowns. "I was trying to have a more open and honest- "
Rachel rises. "It's fine Finch. Really. I have homework I need to do. Just… think about it Andrew." She unfolds her staff and begins walking to put her tray away. Finch watches after her with a sad frown, clearly weighing something in her mind.
"I'm just saying," Ben continues. "Of the group of us, we're not exactly experts in dolling out relationship advice. I mean look at the sad state most of us are in. Lies, not even sure if we're in the relationship anymore, too young to consider dating, and too scared to go for it." Lori bristles at that, having been quiet this entire time.
"Who says I'm too young to date?" Charlie interjects.
"I do," both Lori and Michael say at the same time.
"Not until you're forty," Lori adds.
Charlie shrugs. "Then I guess it must be true."
"Well, shucks, that's why I'm here," Ray volunteers. "Clearly you all need an expert on love and so I was sent here to tell y'all about it. Because love is the most powerful thing we have. And we all deserve the chance at findin' somebody who lights us up like my Evangeline does for me. She, well she makes every day worth livin' so I can gaze upon her in the night sky."
"Well, I agree with Rachel," Hannah ventures. "And if you criticize my knowledge of relationships to discredit me…"
"Never," Ben says solemnly.
"Bess is a nice person from what you've described. But she might not be the right person. And that's okay. It took a few tries to find Caleb. And most of those tries were rough to say the least. So, before you go putting yourself in that situation… just make sure you want to. Because you might miss out on something else in the process. Or maybe the right thing just hasn't made itself apparent yet. Because a guy like you… he cannot just settle for any girl. You deserve someone who's… magic."
"I agree," Charlie adds. "You can wait until you're forty like I am apparently."
"Thanks," Andrew smiles. "I'll think about all of this. I will." At that, everyone starts to rise and get ready to head out themselves, Ray diving into the pocket of Charlie's coat. He and Lori linger a bit and he feels the need to address her personally. "What do you think, Fitz?"
She takes a moment before smiling at him, though it doesn't quite reach her eyes. "I think you should do what makes you happy." They both stare at each other for a long moment before he nods and the two start walking to join the others.
Finch, meanwhile, has run to catch up with Ben. "I have an inquiry about a phrase Rachel Ellis used? What does it mean to 'string someone along'?"
"It means you're just kind of leading them on, giving them false hope things will eventually work out. Like turning down a date but not saying no, instead saying something that makes it seem like you could change your mind about your feeling when you won't. Then the person just keeps waiting and hoping instead of moving on. Does that make sense?"
Finch nods, clearly connecting his definition to something in her mind. "Affirmative. I now understand exactly what is meant by that phrase. And the best course of correcting it would be to indeed just negate the feeling expressed?"
"Definitely," Ben agrees. "Then you can set them free. Maybe they'll even find someone else," he smiles over at where Kaity is talking with Hannah. He wheels to catch up to them, leaving Finch with a determined look on her face.
"Then I know the actions I must complete."

That night, Ben is pouring over a list at his desk while Charlie is typing away at an essay. They both hear a knocking on the door and turn to see Lori standing there. "Study group tonight? Or do you need some help on the homework?" Charlie asks.
She shakes her head. "Just wanted to talk about something if that's okay."
Charlie is up instantly. "I'll grab the Doctor." He runs out of the room before Lori can stop him.
"I guess I should head on out for a bit then," Ben rolls up his list and tucks it into his bag.
Lori puts a hand out. "No. You can stay. It's no big deal."
"Lori, it's fine. I get it. They're you best friends. Besides, talking had never really been our strong suit."
"I can always count on you to be honest though," she reminds him.
He nods. "True. But, I'm actually working on something right now- the grand plans for Katie and I's seven-month anniversary tomorrow. It's been a bit rough, so I'm really hoping this will be exactly what she needs to put her on a good path for the rest of the semester. I was thinking of starting with a reprise of our first date followed by visiting a local art show."
"Why seven-month anniversary?"
"It's her favorite number, so I thought it was more important than half a year. Plus, it's actually about a year from the two of us meeting for the first time, so I feel like it all lines us pretty well."
"You're quite the romantic," she smirks. "I'm glad you found someone who appreciates that about you."
He smiles back at her, teasing. "Don't worry. Someday you'll find a guy who's crusty and boring just like you like."
She playfully grabs her chest. "Oh, I can only hope. The closer to cardboard the better!" They both laugh. "I don't necessarily need boring… I guess I just prefer little intimate acts to big grand gestures. Personal preference is all." He starts to wheel out of the room. "Something tells me I should let Ray spend the night with you guys. Seems he'd fit in more up here than down with us."
"How's Hannah doing?" Ben inquires, concerned. "It can't be easy hosting a firefly who only waxes of love and stars when there's more than just distance keeping her and Caleb apart." Lori just sighs. "I'll maybe go visit her in a bit then. Get her ideas."
"She'd like that." With that, he wheels out of the room as Charlie returns with Michael right behind him. Charlie then drags the three of them to his bed, all of them falling back so they're lying next to one another- feet all still planted on the floor. "So, obviously Ray's here because of the whole love and relationships thing…"
"And you're thinking this might not be about Andrew and Bess?" Michael guesses. "Because the same thought's been crossing my mind since dinner."
"You and Jolene?" Charlie asks. Michael nods.
"I mean, what Ben said was right. I have no clue where the two of us stand at this point. I mean, I still have feelings for her, but I don't if those feelings are enough. So much has happened- in a lot of ways we're different people than we were when we started dating. And I'd like to get to know the new Jolene, but I don't think she wants to know me in the slightest. I don't blame her one bit though. Not after everything."
Charlie sits up to look at him better. "You need to talk to her, Doctor. Because I'm sure she's feeling the exact same way. And you're both just going to be stuck in this limbo unless someone finally decides to do something about it."
"How is he the best at this?" Michael questions Lori.
"I have no idea. But I would listen to him. He's usually right."
Charlie laughs. "Well, I'm not dating until I'm forty at this point so you have plenty of time to use my advice for all it's worth since I won't."
Lori takes a moment before voicing her own thoughts. "I was thinking maybe I should ask Ethan out."
Michael sits up now too. "Where did that come from? I thought that ship had sailed by your words. That a relationship wasn't in your cards. I mean we disagreed, but that was what you said." Charlie nods in clear agreement.
"I don't know… I've been feeling odd lately I guess. I don't know how to put it. Like something's missing… something I want. And I've learned to not want a lot of things so all these feelings I'm foreign to at this point."
"But you think Ethan might be the answer?" Charlie inquires, almost skeptical.
"I just… I think he would help. I think being in a relationship might help. And I would do it right this time. I've learned my lesson. No lies and no secrets. I tell him right upfront why I seem like this completely crazy cult leader. I… I rely on you guys for a lot. I'm not trying to discount that."
"We know," Charlie makes clear.
"But… I just need someone to lean on." She laughs. "Great. Now I'm just quoting songs at this point." She lets out a huff. "I have feelings I'm not used to and I'm trying to deal with them. So I thought maybe with Ray being here that I should try texting Ethan." She sits up and pulls out her phone. "I still have his number after all. And maybe's he's moved on. That's fine. But… I feel like I should try… for me. I even have the message prepped and everything. Not much- just asking if we could meet and talk about things." She looks at the two of them, waiting for their words on the subject. Charlie gives her a thumbs up.
"One last question before you do though," Michael grabs their attention. "Do you like him like that? Or are you just kind of using him to fix some feelings because you think he might do the trick?"
"I don't know," Lori answers honestly. "But I guess I'm willing now to find out." Michael nods, putting a hand over hers so that she pushes the 'Send' button on her phone. He then falls back again.
"I'll talk to Jolene," he promises. "I think I owe it to my sanity to figure out where we stand just like you owe it your feelings."
Charlie lays back down. "Now I can see why I want to wait until I'm forty. You guys make this all sound so complicated and exhausting."
"Being chosen by a magical book does tend to make things lean more in that direction," Lori agrees. "Stupid book. Stupid, stupid book."

The next morning, Finch and Rachel enter theatre practice together. Everyone is milling about and chatting before rehearsals begin, the atmosphere quite nice and friendly. Finch quickly spots Robert Rowell joking with another guy and seems to remind herself of something. She helps Rachel to their usual seats and puts her bag down. "I'll be right back."
She makes her way down the aisle to where Robert is. He waves kindly at her. "Hey Finch! How's it going? That Geometry test was brutal but you seemed to manage alright? Though you always seem to pull it off without a hitch." He quickly notices something and becomes concerned. "Is-is everything alright?"
"I do not desire to be your girlfriend, Robert Rowell!" she says in a voice loud enough to have everyone's attention. Rachel's eyes widen dramatically. "I do not desire to go on a date with you! I will never desire to go on a date with you!" Rachel tries to make her way down the row of chairs on her own, moving at a much slower pace than she desires.
Robert meanwhile is clearly taken aback at this whole display, looking around as everyone just stares openly gawking at the two of them. "Finch, what are you doing?" He's burning red right now and drops his voice, trying to urge her to do the same. "I know. We talked about this last semester."
She doesn't catch on. "But it has become clear you still have feelings for me! And I do not wish you to!"
He prickles a bit. "Well, you don't exactly get to decide that." Rachel is still trying to make her way to the aisle, cussing under her breath as she avoids all the bags at her feet.
"I wish you to move on! I want you to find someone else who will want to date you because you are amazing and kind and according to others quite good looking! So I am making my feelings clear so you do not misconstrue me as leading you on!" Rachel makes it to the aisle, only to miss a stair and ends up falling down them. Everyone goes silent and Finch is instantly at her side to help her up. "Are you alright, Rachel Ellis?"
"I will be the moment we get out of here." She starts to drag her up the aisle to the exit. "Come on."
Robert watches the two of them leave for a moment in complete disbelief before he balls his fists. "Well, message received. Clear as crystal, okay?" Robert informs her coldly, eyes narrowed. "I won't bother you anymore." He turns back to his friends as Rachel shuts the door behind them.
She takes only a moment before turning on her best friend. "What in the ever-living hell was that?!" she nearly screeches.
"I was doing what was necessary so I did not lead Robert Rowell on about the possibility of us being in a relationship."
Rachel runs a hand through her hair, clearly dumbfounded how to proceed. "Okay… I mean, oh my God. Oh, my head hurts and I don't think it's from the stairs. You don't… that was social suicide in there. It's one thing… but in front of the entire cast and crew? He's never going to want to step foot in front of any of them again. And Finch, there were a million other ways to handle that… all of them better. What… what were you thinking?"
Finch replies factually. "I wanted to make sure you were able to witness it, so you knew the possibility was open that he could move onto you."
Rachel drops her hand to cover her mouth, the words sinking in. "Finch… you… you just might have lost Robert as a friend. Completely. And you may not have felt that way about him… but I don't think you wanted to hurt him like that. He's your friend."
"But you might end up dating him as you desire. And you are my best friend, Rachel Ellis. I want you to be happy."
Rachel takes a deep breath, clearly flattered but overwhelmed. She thinks another minute before speaking up. "Go in there and get our stuff. Tell anyone who asks that you need to take me to the nurse because I got a pretty deep gash going on, okay? That we'll have to miss practice today." Finch nods and starts for the door. "Where did you even...?"
"It was Benjamin Prescott who explained the concept to me so I could fully understand what was occurring."
"Of course," Rachel groans. "Of course. Remind me to push his wheelchair down some stairs at the earliest opportunity."
Finch shakes her head. "I will not condone that behavior."
"Just go," Rachel urges her. Finch disappears back into the theater and she just lets out a long sigh.
A moment later Jess appears from the music wing, large bag slung over her shoulders. "I heard that all the way down the hallway."
Rachel recognizes the voice. "Jess, you won't believe- "
"Don't care," is the only reply Jess gives before she's out the door, leaving Rachel in complete turmoil over what to think and feel. She pulls herself together though, clearly trying to work out some sort of plan as she begins to pace.

Later that afternoon, Kaity pulls up to a very familiar location. She turns to a smiling Ben, rolling her eyes fondly. "You're a sentimental goofball."
"But I'm your sentimental goofball," Ben reminds her. She steals a quick kiss before climbing out to remove the wheel chair from the trunk. She sets it up on the passenger side and Ben somewhat efficiently maneuvers into it. "Now, this is going to be a bit different than last time though."
She starts wheeling him toward the entrance. "Clearly."
"But I've thought this out. I hold both guns and you push." She snorts. "It could work!"
They enter the building where paintball guns line the walls and the floor is splashed in all the neon colors that seem to have been invented. "I'm allowed to abandon you when our back's against the wall though, right? Use you as bait?"
Ben doesn't hesitate. "If it means we win then I want you gone by the time I turn around to yell at you to run." She laughs. "Now wheel me over the counter so I can get us suited up."
"What else is on the docket?" Kaity inquires, trying to seem casual. "Knowing my amazing boyfriend, there's quite the plans beside destroying unwitting fools to prove our couple dominance." Ben slides his card across the counter and the clearly bored employee grabs two sets of gear for them.
"Flattery will get you… everywhere. I have reservations for dinner and then I figured an evening on your couch with my favorite movie followed by yours. I have properly bribed your roommate into spending the night in the spare room Hannah and Lori cheated the system to obtain." He helps her into the vest.
"Well, look at you moving mountains." She hands him her gun and wheels him towards one of the entrances. They only have to wait a few seconds before the door opens and the match begins. Kaity wheels him through the door and instantly takes them to find cover behind a large tube.
But her joy comes to an instant halt when she peeks around the corner only to met by the sight on none other than the Lone Ranger charging towards her. She blinks and when she opens her eyes he has vanished, leaving nothing but an empty space. "Shit," she mutters under her breath, knowing instantly what's happening.
"What's wrong? Do we need to move?" Ben asks, oblivious. Kaity looks at him, weighing her options in the moment. She is nearly in tears when she gathers up the courage to do what she knows she ultimately needs to do for her sake and his.
"I'm hallucinating," she mutters in the tiniest voice she has. Ben's face instantly falls. "It's not bad yet. I can still handle it right now. Promise." She can see he looks skeptical. "Listen, I told you rather than hide it because I'm okay right now. I will let you know the moment I'm not. We can be prepared for it and enjoy what we get of the day, okay?"
He finally nods. "I trust you."
"I'm sorry."
"You'll be sorry if we end up losing because our team lacks our support." He readies his weapons. "Good thing I'm the one shooting. Let's get out there and do this." She instantly shifts back to her more happy persona and grabs the wheelchair, making a run for it as he begins shooting at the opposing forces. She notices a face or two that makes no sense as she navigates them through the course, but shakes each one off and makes a continued effort to enjoy herself.
She leaves Ben behind cover for a moment and takes one of the guns, stepping out to shoot at someone a few times before ducking again. She manages to get him the next time and lets out a yell of triumph, freezing when she sees an opponent with his gun point blank at Ben.
"Are you sure it's okay?" the guy seems hesitant. Ben just rolls his eyes.
"Yes. It's fine. I wouldn't have participated otherwise." The guy still hesitates. Ben notices Kaity sneaking up behind him and smirks. "Listen, if it makes you feel better than shoot the leg. I won't feel it at all then." The guy clearly seems uncomfortable, hesitating. Kaity, meanwhile, pulls her gun up and takes aim.
The guy suddenly changes when she blinks though, the Lone Ranger turning to her with narrowed eyes. She falters a bit and he gives her a cold smile. "This is for voting to send me away, Kaity." He raises his gun to Ben's chest, and Kaity's breath stops at the sight of the real metal pistol. "I'm sorry but you really had this coming."
He turns back to Ben and Kaity instantly springs into action. "No!" She tackles him to the ground, somehow managing to get him on the ground despite her tiny stature. She straddles him then and starts pounding him. "I won't let you kill him! My vote wasn't enough! No! No! No!"
She hears a garbled voice as she continues to beat the guy before someone physically drags her away from him. "Kaity!" a voice cuts through as she swings at whoever grabbed her, pulling violently.
"My vote wouldn't have been enough!"
"Kaity!"
Just like that, the illusion shatters. Kaity takes a breath and realizes what is actually there. The guy is sliding away from her like she was a rabid animal, scratches across his face, and Ben… Ben has fallen out of his chair with her struggle. "Oh my God," she whispers. "Oh my God. Oh my God. I'm so sorry." She turns to the guy. "I'm so sorry. I didn't… I'm bipolar," she tries to explain. But he's already run off.
She turns back to see Ben looking at her with the saddest gleam in his eye. "I- I need to go to the hospital right now." He just nods as two employees come running out to them. Both of them brace for what's about to happen, the afternoon gone up in smoke.

Meanwhile, Lori stands in front of her mirror adjusting her scarf this way and that, trying to make sure all of the scar under it is covered. Hannah sees this and hops down from her bed to come put a hand on her shoulder. "You look fine." She gives the scarf a fond fluff. "Are you sure about this?"
Lori nods, trying to appear more confident that she is. "Yeah. I am." Her face falls. "Actually, I'm really not sure. I've got this general feeling of what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure if I'm heading in the right direction to do it. And then there's the fact that if I do this then I'm telling him about the book right then and there. Which is terrifying, because all of the crazy. And then there's the fact that is if I don't go ahead then I dragged his feelings into this yet again for nothing, which once again is so unfair to him. Basically, there's no way this is working out the more I think about it."
"That's why I'll be there," Ray assures her, settling on her shoulder. "I'll be right here to give you all the advice you could be needin'." Lori nods, relaxing just a fraction. "He sounds like quite the guy."
"You know nothing about him," Hannah reminds him.
Ray shrugs. "I'm a good judge of character though. I don't even need to see them to know. And I know for Lori he seems like quite the guy."
Hannah just takes a moment before turning her attention back to Lori. "Just… be careful. I know you're worried about hurting him, but just… don't hurt yourself either. It'll make you unbearable for the future." Lori smiles, seeing right through her and gives her a hug. "Because Lori Fitzgerald… you deserve someone… well, you deserve someone."
Lori heads for the door with a salute, opening it to be met with the very unexpected site of Brett Edwardson about to knock. She stares at him a minute before shutting the door in his face. "Hannah! My time machine worked! I believe I'm a year in the past!"
Hannah steps out, eyebrow up in confusion. Lori crosses her arms. "Brett Edwardson is outside the door."
"And he can hear you!" his voice volunteers.
Hannah lets out a huff. "We're partners for a project. We still have a lot of the same classes and know we work well together. That's it." Lori looks very skeptical and Hannah groans. "Lori…"
"I just feel like we've been down this road before."
"Please! You're about to go pester Ethan for like the fourth time."
"Third."
"Still outside the door!" Brett's voice cuts in again.
Hannah puts her hands up. "Oh, I take it back," she mocks. "It's for school. It's nothing. Not even some kind of weird rebound tracing my steps thing." She puts her hand up, showing a picture of Caleb that she has just pulled out of her pocket. "Scout's honor."
Lori instantly sobers, nodding. "Have fun." Hannah pockets the picture, saluting herself. Lori opens the door once again, blowing right past Brett. "I never liked you anyway."
She doesn't even wait for a response as she strolls down the hallway and towards the exit of the dorm building. She comes a stop though at the site of Andrew Parker coming down the path towards her from one of his classes. She holds a hand up. "Wish me luck."
He holds his hand up and they both high-five the air next to each other without missing a beat. "Good luck," he tells her warmly as he ducks inside, bringing a smile to her face. She continues down the path before something comes to mind and she slows a bit, looking over her shoulder to see him talking with someone else- still with that huge smile on his face.
Ray whistles. "She's a lucky girl, Bess is."
Lori continues on her way, shaking her head clear. She makes her way down the path to the café, noticing Ethan is already at a table inside. "Okay, Lori. You can do this."
"You can," Ray assures her. She takes one last deep breath before entering the café and navigating to sit across from Ethan.
She waves in greeting. "Thanks for meeting me, especially considering everything. I honestly wasn't expecting you to."
Ethan shrugs, noncommittal. "What can I say? Your message intrigued me, which I wasn't expecting considering how things… last time."
Lori grimaces. "Yeah. I was in a bad headspace. And I'm sorry for that. There's a lot to it that unfortunately requires a lot of depth to me and my life right now. Like a lot. Like how I will completely vanish for hours on end with my friends. Like my friends, who are apparently all part of one big cult that I lead. That would honestly make things easier."
"Um, darlin'?" Ray whispers, but she just keeps going.
"Like how I got this scar on my face and the plethora of other ones that cover me at this point that will be quite shocking if you're not acquainted with the stories behind them." She sees his stare and realizes her mistake. "Like how I seem like a complete and utter crazy person in my explanation of why I'm not a crazy person." She takes a deep breath.
"Speak from the heart," Ray advises her. "Remember how he makes you feel. How special you are."
Lori hesitates, before beginning again. "The point is… I thought when we talked last all of the… stuff in my life meant I couldn't have a relationship. That I couldn't be involved with someone like that because in a way I wasn't meant to be happy. But now… I think… there's a lot on my shoulders. A lot… which again can be discussed at a later time. Though this would be a lot easier if you knew admittedly. And anyway, I just recently have found I want to have someone by my side- someone who can help me with all of it just by caring about me. By making me laugh… or even just smile when it seems impossible. By making me feel stronger than a lot of times I think I actually am." She seems to be realizing something, but forces herself to keep going. "Plus, of course I'd be there for them. I'd be in it and… I'd want to save him just as much as he's saving me. Because he clearly has his own issues… but I don't care. Because he's… he's magic."
She's frozen and Ethan's look has softened quite a bit. "Shit," he mutters. Lori looks up at him. "I-I owe you an apology, Lori. I thought you were just… after last time… I'm seeing someone." Her gaze flies up to him and he sighs.
"Do you want me to hit 'em? 'Cause I will," Ray mutters, acting as if he's rolling up his sleeves.
"I've been seeing someone for a week or two… a work colleague."
"Then why'd you see me?"
He sighs. "Honestly, because I'm a terrible person. I was going to come here and trick you into asking to be with me just so I could turn you down the way you did me last time. Part of me thought you weren't serious about this anyway so it would be no big deal in the end. Nothing you didn't deserve anyway. But… you just put a lot on the table. Like wanted to be in a genuine relationship on the table. There was a lot of personal information… cults and scars and all. And I'm such an asshole for doing this."
Lori shakes her head. "It's fine."
He shakes his head. "No. It's not. It was awful of me. Look, you're even about to cry. Let me go grab you some napkins or something."
"I'm fine," Lori shakes her head, quickly gathering her strength back again.
"Seriously, I will give this punk the ol' one two!" Ray offers.
Ethan just takes her in a minute before leaning forward. "Clearly, making you upset isn't what you were looking for."
She shrugs. "Not quite."
"Clearly, I'm not the guy you were looking for at all. Because you deserve more than the jackass who dragged you out in public just to humiliate you. You deserve this guy who can help you with all the stuff you talked about- the one who makes you feel better. Not makes you cry in the local café."
Lori just nods, lost in thought. "Listen, here's what's going to happen," Ethan volunteers after an uncomfortable moment. "I will go up there and buy you a pint of whatever ice cream you want. And then we can go our separate ways. I will never tell anyone anything you said here. It'll stay between us. And that'll leave you wide open for this amazing guy you're looking for. Sound good?"
"Chocolate chip mint," she volunteers.
He sighs in relief. "Coming right up." He gets up and heads for the counter, leaving Lori to wipe her watering eyes and steady her breathing. Ray pats her on the shoulder.
"I'm sorry, darlin'. I'm usually never wrong about these sorts of things." Lori takes a beat before laughing. "Oh no. Your broken heart is already drivin' ya' right to the loony bin. And it's all my fault!"
She shakes her head. "No. No. I'm just so… relieved." She smiles. "I almost just made the biggest mistake. Because I think I figured it out. I don't want to be with Ethan."
"Well, that's good 'cause it seems the feelin's mutual," Ray admits.
"It's… I never had feelings for Ethan. I mean I had feelings, but they're not for Ethan. They're for Andy. I think I have feelings for Andy."
"Andy! Of course!" Ray pauses. "Who's Andy?"
She rolls her eyes, rising. "Andrew."
"Oh! But wait, I thought he's gonna be with Bess?"
"I don't know," Lori admits. "I don't know how he feels. I just know how he makes me feel. How much he helps me through things. How much I want to help him through everything he's clearly struggling with." She sobers. "And how if he wants to be with Bess in the end, if she's what's best for him, then that's who he should be with."
"Now that's true love!" Ray exclaims. "Oh, the two of you have to work out. He makes you feel the way Evangeline makes me feel!"
"You are quite easily swayed, aren't you?"
"What can I say? I follow my heart."
She smirks just as Ethan comes back, brandishing the pint out to her like some kind of talisman to keep her from breaking down. She takes it. "Thank you. That was very kind of you."
"It was the least I could do," he admits. She turns and starts for the exit, somehow looking happier than when she came in despite what had just occurred. "I hope everything works out for you, Lori."
She gives Ethan a wave. "Same to you, Ethan. Have a good life."
"I do hope everythin' works out between him and his girl," Ray admits as they close the door to the café behind them.
Lori snorts. "I give them a month." She glances at him inside, faking a kind wave that he reciprocates before starting back towards the dorm. "Jerk. Though I suppose I was a jerk first, so karma should even out on this one. Well, at least I got some ice cream out of it."

At the same time, Rachel straightens on the couch as she hears a knock on the door. "It's open!" she shouts, the door opening a moment later for Robert to poke his head in. "Robert?"
He steps in, taking a seat in the chair next to her. "Yeah. It's me." He sighs. "How are you doing?"
"I'll live. We've got more important things to talk about though."
"Like whatever happened this morning," he gets right to the point. "Because I've been over it so many times in my head. She's never… I don't know what got into her. I don't know why she thought it was necessary to do that in front of everyone. I knew how she felt. I thought we were fin though. And she's never acted like that before. It just- "
"It was my fault," Rachel cuts in. He looks up at her from where he was fiddling with his hands. "She was doing it for me."
He tilts his head. "What do you mean?"
Rachel takes a pause, knowing she must continue. She begins to force the words out, hard as they may be. "I… I had a bit of a crush on you. And when you sent that text about having feelings for someone else, I realized quickly who you meant. And I gave her a bit of a rough go about it, even accused her of just leading you on. So, that's why she felt the need for the big display. She was trying to show me that she was fixing things for me… so you could move on to me. With me."
Robert sits silent for a moment, taking this in. Rachel feels a need to fill the silence and keeps going. "And I know she went about it in a horrible, embarrassing way. But in a way… she didn't know what she was doing. She doesn't… I'm sure you've noticed she's a bit socially awkward."
He shrugs. "I mean, sure. But- "
"But you still liked her anyway," Rachel cuts in, understanding. "Which is why you still need to be her friend, despite what just happened."
Robert looks at her in confusion. "What?"
Rachel nods, reaching out to cover her hand with his. "Listen, Finch… she has quite thee interesting backstory. She's figuring a lot out as she goes. She has our help of course, the Creepy Cult of Lori that we are. We're her friends and we all love her for who she is. But we're together all the time… all of the freaking time. We're family, but even then, it's kind of unhealthy really. Which is why she needs you and your sister. She needs to have people of her own. We all do. She's honestly probably never going to see you as anything more than a friend, and I'm sorry because it sucks getting rejected. But she does need you."
Robert takes a second before covering her hand with his other one. "I can't believe I'm saying this… but I'll talk to her. Make it clear I'm not mad at her for what she did, but that it did hurt my feelings. Maybe once she gets that, she'll understand that she went about things the wrong way."
Rachel nods. "I think she will. I've been talking with her too. That what she did wasn't necessary. That I was wrong for taking things out on her and making her feel like she had to do that."
"You're working awfully hard to put the two of us back together," he probes, question obvious. "I mean, if she did all of this for you, you could have just- "
"She's my best friend," Rachel doesn't hesitate. "She's made it clear that she would do anything for me. So, this, fixing this, this is the least I can do for her. Your friendship is so much more important than anything I dreamed about us in my head."
And before anything else can happen, Robert is leaning forward and smashing his mouth against hers. Rachel lets out a squeak of surprise before closing her eyes and leaning in as well. Suddenly, he pulls back.
"I don't know… I shouldn't have done that," he mutters, rising. "That was unfair and I shouldn't have… I'm sorry."
Rachel smiles sadly. "Just consider us even I guess." He looks at her a beat before starting for the door. "You'll talk to her?"
He nods, but quickly realizes that won't work. "I'll talk to her." And with that he disappears behind the door, leaving Rachel to gently touch her lips in his wake. But then she rises, trying to shake it off and heading towards her bedroom.

Later that evening, Jess is making her way out of the Music corridor of the Art Building and makes her way out in her usual manner when she hears something from the theater that makes her pause. "And just like that… it has vanished!" She steps into the theater to see Andrew on the stage, gesturing grandly to an empty audience.
"What's gone?" she asks despite herself. He smiles at her.
"Why, check your pocket and you'll see!" She just stares at him. "Come on. Check." With a roll of her eyes she does, only to have her eyes widen as she pulls a couple rolled bills of Monopoly money out of it. "The rubber band is in the other one." Sure enough, that emerges a moment later.
"How?" she almost demands. He just shakes his head at her. "You didn't even know I would come in here."
He makes his way to the end of the stage, sitting. "I'm glad you did though. Otherwise, that finale would have been a bit weaker." He nods to the bag on her back. "I didn't know you played."
"I never meant you to know," she makes clear. "It's none of your business."
He just takes this in stride. "Haven't seen you around much recently."
"Well, given the drama the lot of you are dealing out recently, can you blame me? It's just plain ridiculous. If you ask me the answers are obvious and all of you are just letting it be more complicated than it is." He just looks at her. "Michael needs to cut Jolene loose because it is clearly over. Rachel is pissed at Finch for Robert liking her despite the fact it is not her fault and she's a robot. Hannah and Ben are pretending they're back to normal when they're not which is just going to blow up later into something Lori has no time to deal with because she's too busy trying to keep everyone together." Andrew just blinks at her. "Just because I don't get involved doesn't mean I don't see it. I have eyes and ears that work despite my best efforts. I just… choose to not get involved because I have no time or room for drama." She turns and starts to head back up the stairs.
"What do you think I should do about Bess?"
She turns back, rolling her eyes. "I have no interest in this conversation."
He just locks eyes with her. "Please."
She just stares back, turning again. "And I think you don't want my answer… especially coming from me."
"You're my friend. Of course I do."
This gives her the slightest pause, and is enough to have her make her way up to him. "I think it is absolutely ridiculous that you're even considering a date with Bess considering you don't and won't ever have feelings for her."
"Why's that?"
"Because you are in love with Lori." Andrew starts to turn red and she just groans. "You're not exactly subtle. I could write a ten-page essay just on the way you look at her. But I won't because that's completely and utterly stupid."
"Even if… even if I do feelings have… have feelings for Lori- "
"You do," she cuts him off. "So stop. Stop even entertaining the idea that dating Bess will make you even slightly happy. She's not the girl you want to be with, so don't be with her. See. Simple answer. Don't know why all of you have to make this all so complicated."
"Have you ever relationship been in… been in a relationship?" he asks suddenly. She glares at him a long time. "I'm asking because I'm curious. Not because I think you couldn't or something. I don't think you're as broken as you like everyone to think you are… or how you view yourself for that matter."
She seems to debate again. "The fact I'm even entertaining you right now is miraculous given how small my patience is," she reminds him. He nods in agreement. "His name is Ryan and we're in a band together. Three months. He gets I'm not big into drama or dating as whole much, but he gets me and I like having him around. So he is. And no, Dad doesn't know about either."
Andrew sits on this information for a moment before speaking again. "What's the band name?"
She snorts, knowing this isn't his real question. But then his curious look gives her pause. "This Shattered World. It used to be These Broken Stars, but we changed it last week."
"I like it."
"Thank you for your unnecessary approval. I will keep that in mind. Now, if you' excuse me I have homework I need to do." She starts back up the aisle, but once again he shouts out to make her stop.
"Do… do you think Lori feels the same way?" She groans, looking skyward. "Do you think there's a chance that is I told her how I felt that she'd… reciprocate?"
Jess whirls back around, making her way right up to him. "It doesn't matter." He raises an eyebrow. "It doesn't matter because you're not ready for a relationship." He sputters, but she cuts him off. "Listen, you've got a lot of issues. Big issues that you are clearly still working through. Issues you're not even trusting Lori and her merry band with- because I'm pretty sure each and every one know the germ thing is bullshit. Except maybe Ben."
"Well, Ben just thinks I'm a projection anyway."
"The point is, you're not ready. You shouldn't be in a relationship right now, especially with Lori of all people. She's got enough going on without your baggage."
"So you're suggesting some me time?"
"I'm not suggesting anything. I'm just telling you the truth. Get your life sorted before you go dragging someone else into it." She notices his expression and sobers a bit. "Just… you're not ready for a relationship yet- yet being the key word. And that's okay." He looks up at her in surprise. It seems to break whatever moment she was having. "I can't believe I just offered relationship advice. I refuse to let all of you get to me this easy. Let me leave this time, okay?"
"Thank you," he offers sincerely. "I really appreciate it, Jess."
"Don't mention it. Seriously. Not a word." He nods in agreement. "Now, I'm actually leaving this time. Never have a conversation like this with me again. They're a waste of my time." She starts up the stairs once again, shouting one last thing before she vanishes through the door. "And no, you're never going to meet him!"
Andrew just lets out a chuckle, rising and readying to work some more on his act. He goes to his hat on a table and pauses for a moment. "Get my life sorted. If only it was that easy." His phone starts buzzing in his pocket and he pulls it out to see Michael is calling him. "Hey? What's- again?" He starts gathering up his belongings. "Yeah, I'll meet you by your car in just a minute."

Michael and Andrew enter the Emergency Waiting Room to find Lori sitting with Charlie in a few of the seats. They make their way over, Michael pulling the two of them in for a quick hug. "Any word yet?" Andrew inquires.
"They're working on getting her up to a room," Charlie informs him. "Ben's been out a few times to keep us updated. Hannah's on her way and then Finch and Rachel won't be here until tomorrow since they have practice but they say to keep them updated." Andrew nods, taking a seat across from Lori. Michael goes to sit next to her when he notices Jolene Dean of all people navigating through the back in a set of scrubs. He looks away before she can notice him and sinks into his seat.
"Aww shucks," Ray makes them both jump from his spot on one of the armrests. "I've been sent here to help all of ya', but nothin' but trouble's been happenin'."
"Trouble is our default at this point," Lori informs him gently. "Two times in a few weeks. This is bad."
Andrew reaches out to take her hand, but finds he can't bring himself to do it. "We're going to get through this," he tries to assure her with his words. "Kaity… Kaity might be tougher than all of us." Lori gives him the faintest smile.
Just then, Hannah comes barreling in with a very annoyed Jess behind her. She spots them and practically drags her Vice President with her. Lori gives her a tight hug. "Ben called me on the way," Hannah informs her roommate. "So, we're just waiting for the room?"
Lori nods and the two of them sit, Jess just hovering next to everyone. "How'd you get here? You let me take your car."
"Brett drove me," she informs her. "I ran into Jess along the way."
"I tried to avoid coming," Jess makes clear.
Hannah snorts and rolls her eyes. She notices Lori giving her a look. "It was no big deal. I got the message and sent you along so I could finish the project. But he could see my heart really wasn't in it and offered to drive me over. Then I can take my car back." She gathers herself for a moment before remembering something. "Ethan! How'd Ethan go?"
Lori gives the fastest glance to Andrew before shaking her head. "There's not going to be an Ethan. He wasn't interested which is okay because I don't think he was what I was looking for anyway."
"She's leavin' some important details out though," Ray cuts in. "Like how-"He senses Lori's stare. "We'll be sure to tell ya' later."
"There's not going to be a Bess either," Andrew volunteers, earning looks from everyone. Ray almost claps his hands in joy, relieved. "I'm not relationship ready… ready for a relationship. It's a simple as that. I need to figure some of my stuff out before I drag someone else in." He plays with a pack of cards he's pulled out of his pocket. "And even then… she'd have to be the right one."
Everyone takes this in, Hannah and Charlie exchanging a knowing glance with twin smiles. Everyone settles into silence for a moment when Jess of all people speaks up.
"I'm dating a guy named Ryan. You're never going to meet him, but I suppose if anyone should know… it would be all of you." Everyone is clearly reeling for her volunteering this information. "Also, he's going to pick me up as soon as Kaity has a room. Because I've got things I need to get done."
Lori smirks. "Well, thank you for trusting us with that. He must be quite the guy."
Jess shrugs. "I find him adequate in the boyfriend department. A solid seven."
Charlie almost starts laughing, but Lori gives him a gentle elbow. Hannah is also clearly very amused by this development, making Jess very uncomfortable around them. Suddenly, Michael seems to come to a decision and rises. "I'll be back."
He makes his way down the hallway Jolene disappeared down, spotting her in an office doing some paperwork. She looks up and freezes when she sees him. "Kaity was just admitted, so we were here. Then I saw you."
"I'm volunteering here. Hopefully it helps boost me for the next round of interviews." They both stand still for a moment. "Listen, I have work I need-"
"Are we still together?" he cuts to the chase. "Because I know a lot's happened and we're not the same. And thinking back it seems pretty clear what the answer is considering our interactions the past few months. But I guess… I guess I need a concrete answer. I need to know if I can move on. Because I just keep on holding out hope otherwise. So, I need you to say it."
She looks him straight in the eye and speaks after a tense moment. "We're not together, Michael." She saddens after a second. "I'm sorry."
He waves her off. "Goodbye Jolene."
"Goodbye Michael." With that, he starts back down the hallway but his breathing starts to become more labored. Quickly, he ducks into a bathroom, locks the door, and curls up against a wall as the panic attack hits him- leaving him gasping for breath as he grabs his head and folds into himself.

The next morning, Hannah and Lori stand before Ray with the book in hand. Ray for the record looks completely perplexed. "So you're tellin' me that even though no one got together, in fact the opposite happened actually, that I've done what I was sent here to do?"
Lori and Hannah both nod. He bites his lip. "I'm not sure how that works."
Lori looks to Hannah to explain, which she steps forward to so. "You actually reminded us all about something more important than just getting together I think. That it takes the right Evangeline, the star that makes us shine brighter than anything and lights up the world, to be the person we need in our life. And that it's worth waiting for the right one to come along because once you find them…" She glances at the photo of Caleb on her mirror. Lori puts a hand on her arm. "You're a complete person by yourself. You are. But there's something about them… that just makes you even more so. And you reminded all of us that."
Ray looks about to cry, but then puts a hand up. "I still don't get it."
Lori sighs fondly before flipping the book open to a glowing poem. "Point is, you helped us… helped me. So thank you for that. Just go impart your wisdom to Tiana and Naveen okay?" She freezes for a minute, remembering how the story ultimately ends. "And Ray?"
"Yes, darlin'?"
"Tell Evangeline we said hello."
"I will," he vows. She turns her attention to the book.
"That someone as beautiful as she Could love someone like me" With a flash of light, Ray vanishes with a last wave they reciprocate.
"So, what happens now?" Hannah inquires.
Lori thinks for a moment before answering. "I wait. I wait as long as it takes." She plays with the scarf around her neck a bit. "Because he was right- there's clearly a lot of stuff he needs to sort out. And when he does and if her feels the same then maybe. But until then I wait. Not because he's leading me on or I can't move on, but because he's worth waiting for."
Hannah takes this with a big smile, giving her a quick hug. "I'm going to meet with Jess. Maybe I can get more information about this boyfriend."
"President's Daughter isn't giving you anything."
"I know," Hannah laments before exiting. Lori waits a beat before flipping through the pages of the book once again, slamming it in frustration when no glowing poem appears. She glances at her desk chair where a black mask hangs over the back.
"I haven't forgotten about you, okay? Hang on."

The Lone Ranger stands before a monitor, mouth the thinnest of lines as he watches a screen displaying Lori. Abbot stands next to him, hands behind her back and large smile on her face.
"We need to get rid of him," the Lori on the screen says. "It's not even worth it to vote, really. There's no use in having him around. He's not going to be able to help us at all. And if he's no use to us then there's no point in putting up with him. We just let Commander Dracula deal with him. Sound good?"
There is a chorus of agreement. Lori nods and starts down the hallway, Charlie running up to her side. The video cuts and Abbot just waits patiently in silence. The Lone Ranger is clearly trying to reconcile what he just saw, the fact that is has to be a lie but there it is clear as day. His mind is clearly going a mile a minute as he stares at Lori's retreating back on the screen. Abbot just waits. Finally, the Lone Ranger turns and stalks back the way they came.
"Thanks for reminding me that heroes don't really exist."
Abbot can barely contain her glee.
