Jane didn't acknowledge me for a whole year, but at least in that whole time, there was no replacement for Cara.
Cara told me she was seeing someone, but it was more on the lines of her having a crush, and going out of her way to talk to him in the library when he was alone. She won't admit who he is.
And I don't care enough to continually ask her to just tell me who it is. Instead, I just silently listen as she often goes on about her secret crush.
I was more interested in who Dane was seeing because it meant that my usual gauge of noticing if someone was like me and Dane was inaccurate. I have been narrowing candidates but time and time again, I find myself narrowing to the point of having no candidates left.
"Is he new or old?" I asked.
Dane was lying on the couch with his phone in his face. That was so typical of him. At first, he didn't answer.
"Old."
"I don't know why you don't just tell me who it is. Is it like a secret between you two?" I continued.
He turned his face to me. "Of course, it is a secret."
"And you are alright with that?" I pressed,
He shrugged again, turning towards his phone.
"Is he still in the closet?"
"Aren't you?" He snapped.
I leaned back, not replying to the sudden attack.
Dane ran his hand over his face and sighed. "Sorry. That was rude." He apologized.
I hummed and nodded. Taking it as a sign to drop the subject.
But Dane continued, "It's not like we are in a relationship. It's purely physical."
"Like me and J?" I replied.
He nodded, but something was off in his response, his nod was a bit hesitant and his expression shifted. That was all it took for everything to click.
