Billy Numerous, Jinx and Seemore were crawling uncomfortably in the narrow air vent. Seemore was immensely claustrophobic and had blanched considerably as he hunched his back to give himself more space. Jinx was slightly larger than Seemore and continued gracefully. However, it was a completely different story for Billy. He was cursing vehemently whilst crashing around clumsily and the raucous echoes it caused was practically inviting detection. Seemore kept shooting anxious looks at Jinx and she tried to smile reassuringly but it seemed more like a grimace. With a sharp intake of breath, she twisted awkwardly to face Billy.
"Do you want to get caught?,"she hissed furiously.
He scowled irritatedly.
"Why did I have to do this? Why couldn't I go with the others?,"he snapped cantankerously.
"Because Kyd can only teleport two people! I thought you'd have realised that after the million times we've been through this!,"Jinx retorted vexedly.
His hostile glower deepened,"Chill, I was only asking."
Jinx flared and barely contained her fierce wrath that she yearned to throw at Billy. Abruptly shaking off her intense rage, she continued her elegant clamber, with Seemore following shakily and Billy lowering his outrageous racket.
They were slowly reaching their goal and Seemore rushed them on in his immense desperation to escape the oppressively slim space. Finally, after a difficult descent, they had found their furtive entrance. Jinx shuffled awkwardly until she was in a good enough position and with that, she leapt gracefully to the floor with barely an audible sound. Kyd stood silently as Gizmo smirked egotistically at his successful hack into the advanced security systems. Seemore staggered to his feet after a messy landing and Billy's was rough but precise. They saw Mammoth studying an exquisite, silk jacket, clearly from the opened Egyptian tomb that lay agape. Jinx smiled broadly- the plan was working immaculately.
"Take what you want!,"she exclaimed brightly, pointing to the ancient artefacts smugly.
They pelted excitedly to examine the fascinating exhibits elatedly. Seemore was meticulously studying ancient coins stacked alluringly, and switching to jewelled metals, glimmering attractively, every few minutes. She witnessed Kyd look intently at a set of ancient blades and a wooden staff carved to imitate a fiery cobra. Billy had multiplied to three copies and juggled precariously a set of gilded jars. Jinx shot him a warning frown which he replied with a puckish smirk. Shaking off the violent rage, she strived to inspect the glorious jewellry in which the Egyptians forged over the years. Jinx gasped at the spectacular sparkle of glittering gems, precious and priceless beyond her belief. They were attached to intricate chains, serpentine patterns and miniscule details chiseled with such stunning precision, it took her breath away. The only downside to such miraculous treasures was the heavy dirt ingrained into the engraved lines. However, one valuable artifact lured Jinx like an intoxicating perfume. It was the ancient, good-luck pendant she had heard so much of. It struck her hard- bad luck was a heavy burden and ruthless curse at the best of times. Maybe it would change that. Perhaps Jinx could finally pick her destiny for herself. She reached dazedly to caress it gently with her fingers.
Suddenly, an ear-splitting siren sounded so raucously, the whole team clamped their hands to their ears frantically. They all darted to the middle, backs almost touching, as they spun around bewildered.
"The alarm! Gizmo! You said you had disabled it!,"Jinx cried accusingly.
"I did, snotbrain! This isn't my fault!,"he shrieked, clearly offended by her lack of trust in his superior technology knowledge.
"Who did it then?,"Mammoth grunted suspiciously, eying each teammate wildly.
Kyd shrugged, flustered, as the others denied the sharp accusation fervently. However, Billy had started to squirm nervously as Mammoth stared him down paranoidly.
"It ain't me!,"he spat unconvincingly.
His pathetic lie was so dreadful they all groaned in unison and fixed him with a furious glower.
"Ok, lets get-,"Jinx began.
However, she was interrupted abruptly as the bright lights flickered on and the overwhelming noise from the siren disappeared. They screwed up their eyes as the intense light stung after a while of heavy darkness and their ears rang from the atrocious sound now quenched. When they prised open their eyes warily, the HIVE FIVE tensed themselves with determined frowns. The Teen Titans were prepared for battle, fists alight with black sorcery, iridescent starbolts or menacing sonic cannons. Robin whipped out his metallic staff masterfully and Beast Boy morphed swiftly into a ferocious tiger. Robin advanced menacingly.
"Return what you stole, HIVE FIVE,"he spat authoritatively.
"No way! HIVE FIVE, attack!,"Jinx cried fiercely.
That was all the encouragement they required. They charged determinedly as the Titan's raced to meet them in a vicious battle. Jinx aimed directly at Raven, hexing the ceiling before somersaulting elegantly to the other part of the room. Instantly, the plain roof creaked ominously and large cracks split it like forked tongues. A smug smile spread over her face as her team retreated desperately out of harm's way and the superheroes gulped fearfully. It collapsed with a satisfying crash and they choked at the thick dust and debris in the air. They admired their expensive loot smugly. However, their swift victory was rapidly disposed of when the dusty rubble seemed to shake and suddenly erupt. Vast rubble flew wildly into the air and the shocked villains struggled frantically to elude them. They gasped in horror as the titans had been shielded with one of Raven's impressive spells and they brushed off the thick dust from their uniforms. Stumbling backwards, the HIVE FIVE took a second to recover from such a surprising revelation. Swiftly, they darted to attack and it turned to mayhem.
Seemore was firing madly with his useful helmet while dodging urgently explosive starbolts. He was evidently struggling and barely managed to for a while. However, it wasn't to last. He was hit square in the chest when he had attempted to flee to an easier target. He groaned and was pelted mercilessly onto the floor, writhing as he hit some hard rubble with tremendous impact. Starfire whizzed swiftly to capture him but Billy fortunately multiplied to ten or so and pounced on top of her. She cascaded roughly to the ground and wrestled desperately to shake the ever-growing amount of copies off of her. Even with incredible super-human strength, she could not prevail against overwhelming numbers. Cyborg noticed and raced to free her, and also ended up brawling with Billy Numerous while trying to assist Starfire too.
Meanwhile, Mammoth and Kyd were sparring against Robin. Mammoth threw vicious trikes, lunging forwards as he squatted and evaded each mighty blow nimbly. Kyd was bewildered on how he could help assist when he was suddenly struck by a bright idea. As Robin dodged agilely, he sprang and slashed swiftly with his bladed cape as Robin was almost overwhelmed, attempting to successfully elude Mammoth's and Kyd's strikes at the same time.
Across the room, Beast Boy was an eagle, spinning and flying skillfully. He was chasing a cackling Gizmo, who was flying on his advanced jetpack, and was trying to keep his deteriorating stamina. It was quite an impressive feat, turning and looping around in the air, eluding Gizmo's rockets and rogue amo. His green feathers lay flattened further as his speed was accelerating at an alarming level. Suddenly, Gizmo flung himself at the wall, only to twist left at the last minute. Due to his jaw-dropping speed, the narrow turn was just too tight. Beast Boy smashed into the wall with a dreadful crunch and fell to the floor.
While all of this occurred, Raven was facing her own battles. She was firing vast rubble from the destroyed ceiling at Jinx, who was hexing wildly. She sent a beam of powerful magic that struck Jinx and she was tossed mercilessly to the floor. Raven was about to race to assist her friends when abruptly she was encased in one of Seemore's giant eyes. She thrust her fist against it in a fruitless effort to break out.
The HIVE FIVE were winning. At least, until then.
An iridescent explosion of green light sent all of the Billy Numerous copies ricocheting across the room. Starfire flew into the air with incredible speed as Cyborg bounded forwards, sonic cannon ready to fire. The precarious edge in which one could succeed was fragile and fickle and swiftly an unfortunate series of events struck for the villains.
Cyborg teared Kyd off of Robin roughly, who had recently been pinned to the uncomfortable floor and Mammoth staggered back as he was hit by Cyborg's strong cannon. Rapidly, Robin sprang up and nimbly tossed a weapon at Gizmo, who was battling Beast Boy and beginning to lose. It exploded in a burst of freezing ice and Gizmo was rendered helpless. Starfire dragged him forbearingly to the corner, where she had also tied up Mammoth and Billy Numerous. Subsequently, Beast Boy charged as a ferocious buffalo at Seemore. Thankfully, it had been moments before he was about to encase Robin in a large eye and was also captured. Cyborg rapidly freed Raven and, nodding her thanks, went after another villain. Kyd Wykkyd was giving Raven quite a chase, vanishing one minute to the place they had been before and then somewhere completely new.
Jinx was cowering behind a vast pile of dusty rubble and praying urgently to not be found, even if she realized it was ultimately pointless. The Teen Titans would discover her obscured location soon and the whole group would be confined in a dreary prison cell. The footsteps neared and she held her breath. Suddenly, a ghostly presence miraculously appeared besides her. She jolted and relaxed as she realised it was only Kyd Wykkyd.
Smiling weakly, he lightly touched her shoulder and in one split second had vanished from the crime scene, empty-handed and missing four members.
