In "Profiler Profiled," after Morgan's name was cleared from Carl Buford's arrest, Morgan remained in Chicago for Damien Walter's funeral on Saturday. After the rest of the team returned to Quantico, they were in the bullpen the following Monday waiting for Morgan to return to them. Reid and Prentiss were writing their end of case reports at their desks when JJ and Garcia walked over to them.
"Hey," said Garcia. "Did Morgan's plane land yet?"
"Yes," said Prentiss. "He should be here within the next hour."
Reid said, "Hotch and Gideon are still deciding what they should do with the knowledge of Morgan's expunged criminal record."
Prentiss said, "I don't know Morgan as well as the rest of you. He's never told any of you that he grew up as a victim of this Carl Buford before?"
"No," said JJ.
"Me neither," answered Reid.
"No," said Garcia. "I thought I knew everything about him, but he never told me any of this before! A criminal record! A victim of child molestation! I'm so mad at him right now! Why would he keep this from me, from any of us?"
"Well, he's coming in today," said Reid. "When he returns why don't we just ask him?"
Morgan walked in.
"Ask me what?" asked Morgan.
"Welcome back," said Prentiss. "How was the funeral?"
"As well as can be expected," answered Morgan. "But, I think Gordinski will be more peaceful to me and my family from now on. Now, what is it you all really want to ask me?"
"You have a past criminal record," said Garcia.
"An expunged criminal record," said Reid.
"Okay, expunged," said Garcia. "Why didn't you ever tell any of us about this record before?"
"And, why didn't you ever tell us about Carl Buford molesting you before?" asked JJ.
"That record was supposed to have been expunged," answered Morgan. "I didn't know that Gordinski or Buford would ever try to use that record against me. I'm sorry, guys. If I did know that, I wouldn't have kept that a secret from anybody."
"Okay," said Prentiss. "And being Buford's victim?"
"The truth?" said Morgan.
"Yes, please," answered Garcia.
Morgan answered, "I was ashamed. I never even told my family what he did to me."
"That makes sense," said Reid. "Most victims of rape and abuse are too ashamed not only to report the crime to the police, but they don't even try telling the people who they are the closest to about it."
"And they don't want people who know them seeing them as victims," said Prentiss.
"You mean you didn't want us to see you as a victim?" asked Garcia.
"I didn't want anybody to even know, Baby Girl," said Morgan. "Not until I found out that James Barfield was another victim of Buford's. I always thought that I was his only victim. That's why Damien Walters was killed. Damien wanted James to tell me that Buford molested him, so Buford killed him and he tried framing me for Damien's murder."
"I'm sorry, Derek," said JJ.
"I'm sorry, too, Morgan," said Prentiss.
"Hey," said Garcia. "I forgive you for this, but no more secrets! We can't help you out of another jam like this if you keep any more secrets from us! Promise?"
"I promise, guys," said Morgan. "No more secrets."
Hotch and Gideon walked up to the team.
"Welcome back," said Gideon.
"Thanks," said Morgan.
"We need to talk," said Hotch.
"In your office?" asked Morgan.
"No," said Hotch. "I think everybody needs to hear this."
Morgan, Reid, JJ, Garcia and Prentiss gave Hotch and Gideon their undivided attention.
"Morgan," said Hotch. "Your secret expunged record and your secret past with Buford were the keys to deciding your innocence or guilt in this murder case. You should have been more straightforward to us about it."
"I know," admitted Morgan. "I'm sorry about that."
"I just have one question," said Gideon. "Why did you join the FBI in the first place?"
"After what that SOB did to me," answered Morgan. "I wanted to do my part to get guys like him off of the streets. Whether or not they're serial killers, terrorists, rapists, child molesters or escaped convicts, I wanted to spend the rest of my life bringing these unsubs to justice. That's why I joined the FBI."
"Well," said Gideon. "That's good enough for me!"
"It's good enough for me, too," said Hotch.
"Does that mean I'm not fired?" asked Morgan.
"No," said Hotch. "You're not fired."
Morgan, Prentiss, JJ and Garcia sighed with relief.
Hotch continued, "However, as your supervisor, I'm ordering you to undergo a psychological evaluation with our department therapist. How long you need to undergo counseling is up to you. And, Morgan, don't forget what happened to Elle after she refused to go to her evaluation."
"Yeah," said Morgan. "She was fired. I'll go."
"Then, welcome home, Morgan," said Hotch.
"Thanks, Hotch," said Morgan.
Morgan shook hands with Hotch and Gideon.
"Welcome home, Derek," smiled Prentiss.
Morgan smiled.
"Welcome home, Morgan," smiled JJ.
"Welcome home, my vision," cheered Garcia.
Garcia happily hugged Morgan. Prentiss and JJ smiled at the two of them.
"Welcome home, Morgan," said Reid.
Morgan hugged Reid and then he hugged JJ and then he hugged Prentiss.
Morgan narrated, "Be with people who know your worth. You don't need too many people to be happy. Just a few real ones who appreciate you for who you are."
