Chapter 5 The birth of Socorro Rivera
The Rivera family mourned the loss of Mama Coco for a while but they believed Coco would have wanted them to be strong and do their best to move on. The Riveras continued to run the family shoe shop and play music at the same time. Miguel got better and better at playing the guitar. Everybody in Santa Cecilia thought Miguel sounded amazing just like his great great grandpa Hector Rivera. The holidays came and went and the Riveras celebrated their first Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years without Coco. They still enjoyed themselves but they felt like it wasn't the same without Mama Coco. Sometime after New Year's Luisa Miguel's mother and his Tia Gloria were in the kitchen making lunch together when all of a sudden Lusia started to scream in pain. "Luisa what's the matter? Is it the baby?" Gloria asked. "I think it's time please get Enrique. He's in the shop" Luisa requested as Gloria ran to get Enrique and the rest of the family. "Gloria what's wrong?" Elena asked when she saw her daughter in law running. "Luisa is in labor. She told me to find Enrique" answered Gloria.
Enrique was coming out of the shop when he overheard Gloria telling his mother about Luisa. "Gloria I overheard you and Mama. Where is Luisa?" Enrique asked. "She's in the kitchen hurry" answered Gloria as Enrique went to the kitchen to help his wife. When Enrique got to the kitchen he saw Lusia groaning from discomfortment. "My dear husband it's time. We need to go to the hospital now!" stated Luisa as Enrique helped his wife to the car. "Mama are you alright? Abuelita said you're about to have the baby" said Miguel as he and his cousins went to check on Luisa. "I'm going to be ok mijo. Soon you're going to have a new brother or sister" Luisa assured Miguel. Enrique helped Luisa to the car and before they left Elena stopped them and said, "I'm coming with you. I want to be there for you and meet the baby after he or she is born." The rest of the family offered to come as well because they all wanted to be there for Lusia.
Enrique and Luisa were deeply touched when the whole family offered to go with them to the hospital to be there for the birth of their 2nd child. "That's great you all wish to come but who knows how long I'm going to be in labor. Not to mention it's a school night for the kids. I don't want any of them missing school" said Luisa as her contractions were coming more often. "I'll watch everyone and hold down the fort," Abel offered. "Well Abel is 19 years old and Luisa is right who knows how long it will be until the baby is born so let him look after the kids and the shop" Berto pointed out. The family agreed to let Abel watch everyone and look after the shop before they all left to go to the hospital. "You know Miguel and I are too old for a babysitter right?" Rosa pointed out. "True but I doubt our parents and the rest of the family would want to leave you all alone for a long period of time. Who knows how long it will be until the baby is born. Also Benny and Manny are too young to stay home alone and we all have school tomorrow" stated Abel as Rosa and Miguel agreed.
When the family arrived at the hospital Enrique helped Luisa out of the car and went inside as the family followed behind them. Luisa was admitted into the hospital right away and a wheelchair was brought out for her. Enrique went with Luisa to her room while the rest of the family waited in the waiting room. "I'll let you all know when the baby is born" Enrique promised before leaving with Luisa. They all hoped and prayed for Luisa and for the baby to be born happy and healthy. Several hours passed by and Luisa was still in labor. "Come on Luisa you can do it push!" The doctor and Enrique encouraged Luisa as she began to push really hard while screaming in pain. Luisa was able to push out the baby because after she did a really big push she heard her baby crying. "Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Rivera it's a baby girl" said the doctor as soon as she showed them their new daughter.
Enrique and Luisa became so happy that they started crying tears of joy as they each held and greeted their baby for a little while before requesting for the doctor to let their family know the baby was born. When their family came inside they were overwhelmed with happiness. "She's gorgeous, what are you going to name her?" Carmen asked as she smiled while holding her niece. "We've been talking about names and we decided to name our daughter Socorro after Mama Coco" answered Luisa. Everyone thought naming the baby after Coco was a wonderful idea, especially Elena who exclaimed, "Mama would have loved to know her great granddaughter is named after her." When everyone looked at their watches they realized it was the next morning and that the kids were most likely at school and couldn't wait to introduce Socorro.
Later that day when Miguel and his cousins came home from school their families were waiting for them. "Mama Papa your home. Is it a boy or a girl?" Miguel asked excitedly as he couldn't wait to meet his new baby sibling. "Miguel say hello to your new baby sister Socorro" said Luisa as she placed Socorro in Miguel's arms. Socorro looked up at Miguel and smiled at him as he smiled back at his little sister. "I think it's great you're named after Mama Coco because I think sometimes I'll call you Little Coco" Miguel said to his sister as she kissed her forehead. Miguel's cousins took turns holding Socorro and showered her with a lot of love and affection as the whole family welcomed Socorro Rivera to the family.
Author's Note: For this story I wanted to include Miguel's baby sister being born but I had no clue what her name was. When I googled it, that was when I learned she was named after Coco who's real name is Socorro apparently. I still like the name Coco which is why I thought it would be fun for Miguel to nickname his sister Little Coco. Please stay tune for my next update. Happy Mother's Day to all of you from Princesspeach102!
