Bucky anxiously sat in the chair in the basement of the avengers headquarters and hesitantly let Tony place the wires on his head to see his memories through B.A.R.F. Everyone else stayed outside of the room so they wouldn't see the murders.

Steam from the rising temperature filled the images before them. The glass opened and two men appeared and took Bucky away to the chair.

Vasily walked over and placed the red book off to the side on a small table. He spoke in Russian directly to Bucky.

"In English, please," Tony demanded.

"Good morning soldier," Vasily repeated, "the year in 1991 and you have a new assignment. The mission is extracting super soldier serum owned by this man. We have knowledge on exactly where he will be on 16th of December. Intercept. Steal the serum. Get out. No witnesses" He showed a picture of Howard Stark to him along with the plate number of his car.

The next images showed Bucky in front of countless weapons. Grenades, guns, knives, anything that he could use in case someone tried to fight. He put on the mask that covered the lower part of his face, and knowing he'd go in at night, put on the black camoflage paint over his eyes and looked directly at the mirror.

Then the next thing he knew he was riding a motorcycle on a pitch black dirt road and a car with the license plate numbers he was told to memorise approached him. He headed toward them, unwavering, and watched at the car swerved to avoid him and slammed directly into a tree.

Bucky stopped the motorcycle and checked the trunk first, five packets of serum were there, ripe for the taking. Meanwhile Howard crawled of out the car.

Bucky walked around and pulled out a gun, but instead of firing, he used the handle and grabbed a disoriented Howard by the neck with one hand and beat him to death with the other.

"Howard!" Maria cried from the passenger seat.

Bucky put his dead body in the driver's seat and slammed the door shut. He walked around to the passenger side of the car and strangled Maria to death, making sure to keep his hand around her neck for more than 2 minutes before he released her.

Tony stopped the machine and ripped the wires off of Bucky. Bucky quickly wiped a tear away from sight and whispered, "Tony."

Steve barged into the room and said, "He didn't know what he was doing, Tony. He honestly didn't."

"Stop defending a murderer!" Tony said.

As they argued, Bucky slipped out of the room and put his head in his hands. Natasha saw him and asked, "Are you alright?"

"Just reliving my worst moments," he said anxiously.

Back in the living room, everyone watched as Steve and Tony went at it.

"I'm not going to defend him," Tony said, "he did terrible things!"

"I'm not denying that!" Steve said, "This just proves that we have to find that damn book before Bucky does even more terrible things for the wrong people again, or did you forget that was the whole point of us being here?" He gestured to the tv, still relaying the news, now it was confirmed that over 30 people were found dead at the scene and 10 were injured, some severly. More were missing.

Tony threw his hands up in the air and said, "I can't. I can't do this. I can't help a murderer. You belong in jail or worse." He pointed at Bucky.

Steve stepped between them and said, "Try to think rationally about this, Tony."

"I am thinking rationally, Rogers," he said hastily as he walked away, "I'm going to find that book if it's the last thing I do without your help."

"Tony," Rhodey said as he left the room, "I don't know what I can do, Cap, but things are about to get ugly." He left with him.

Vision stepped in front of Steve and said, "I believe this is for the best, Captain."

"Vision," Steve said, disappointed, "not you too."

"Your friend is a danger to himself and others until we find that book," he explained calmly, "it would be better if he were in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody for everyone's safety, including his own."

Steve said, "If he's arrested whoever wants him can break into whatever prison he's in and get him. That's why we're here! Is anyone listening to me!?"

"I hope you don't regret your decision, Captain." Vision fazed through the wall and disappeared.

Steve turned to face Sam, Wanda, Natasha, and Bucky and asked, "Anyone else want to go with them?"

"I never liked Tony," Wanda said.

"I never have either," Natasha said, "besides, just because someone's past was terrible doesn't mean they can't change for the better." She glanced at Bucky who gave her a weak smile.

"Ultimately we want the same goal as him anyway," Sam said, "To find Rumlow with that book."

Steve said, "I wish Bruce was here, we could use a tech genious right about now."

Natasha looked at the tv screen where the news was still going. It had what they thought was the Winter Soldier walking in the street. "Maybe we don't need one," she said, "think for a moment, who else knows about the Winter Soldier? I mean really knows him."

Bucky asked, "Didn't you say that those leaked files barely mentioned me?"

Natasha nodded and answered, "Yeah, it didn't even explain that your arm is made of metal or that there was a red star on the shoulder." She looked back at the news playing.

"Could Rumlow could do this?" Bucky asked, "I can't think of anyone else that's still alive that could."

Sam asked, "Why would he?"

"To flush me out of hiding," Bucky said nervously, "I have a feeling he wants the Winter Soldier to do something for him."

"Let's not find out for what," Steve said, "good thing I have a contact that can help with that. For now, we need to get out of here. This place is compromised."

The next day, in the middle of New York City, Steve waited at an outdoor cafe for Sharon Carter to show up with his information. He donned a baseball cap, sunglasses, and a high collared jacket as a disguise.

Sharon walked up to him and sat down in the seat next to him. "What's up?" she asked casually.

"I think you know," he said calmly.

"Well I do have some intell I don't know if you're going believe but it is good news," she replied, "you'll be happy to hear that the Vienna bomber isn't the Winter Soldier. Unfortunately, we still haven't found your old friend yet, sorry."

Intruiged, Steve asked, "How do you know it's not him?"

She answered, "We've studied his gait."

"His gait?" he asked.

"The way the Winter Soldier walks," she explained, "it doesn't match up with how this person walked up to the building. The Winter Soldier has a heavy swagger because his left side is obviously heavier than his right, but the person who did this doesn't have that. In the photos and videos, this guy's left arm just looks like someone poorly sewed a grey sleeve on and added a star on his left shoulder. Things aren't matching up to what we know."

Steve nodded and in order to keep up appearances, asked, "Do you know where Bucky is now?"

Sharon shook her head and said, "Most of the hits we've gotten that match him are from Romania, around the Bucharest area, but we don't have any leads yet, sorry. It appears he still wants to live in the shadows."

"What about the person that framed him?" Steve asked, "Who are they and where are they now?"

"At this point," she answered, "we're pretty sure it's Brock Rumlow. I can't give you proof though, not just because it's classified, but honestly we're not 100% sure yet."

Steve asked, "Do you know where he is now?"

"Why?" she asked, "Are you going to go after him?"

"He framed my friend and made the world think he murdered over two dozen people and injured hundreds more yesterday," Steve answered, "so yeah, I'm going to go after him."

Sharon said, "The latest hideout we've got from him is in Camden, New Jersey, an abandoned part of the city. If you're going after him, be careful. He's been robbing police stations for weapons left and right around the world so it's assumed he's heavily armed if he hasn't sold that stuff to the black market yet. Whenever we get close he takes off again."

"What if I take care of him for you?" Steve asked.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. will be grateful," she replied, "whether he's caught alive, or 'accidentally' ends up dead."
