Another update! Yaaay! (for anyone who's actually reading this). Anyways, I'm still stumped on an idea for chapter 5, so help? Please? I would like to fiinish this story, thank you very much. I've got chapter 5+1 written, so all I need is a prompt (not so subtle elbow nudge). Anyways, if you have an idea for another way to torture Kurama, please drop a review and it will probably show up in chapter 5.
Also, if you have made it this far, thank you for humoring me and actually reading this. I just reread the first chapter, and honestly? I'm amazed people actually read past that mess. So thank you. I hope you enjoy this even if the quality is questionable at best.
Disclaimer: I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho.
Kurama was leaning on the wall outside of Kuwabara's high school, waiting for classes to end. He and the orange-haired young man had agreed to spend the afternoon together at a cafe nearby, where Kurama would help Kuwabara study for his entrance exams the following year.
The bell rang, signaling the end of last period. Standing, Kurama walked towards the gates of the school, listening to the indistinct chatter of students streaming out the doors, eager for an afternoon of freedom. One conversation caught his ear, sensitive youkai hearing picking up Kuwabara's gravelly tones.
"I'm not meeting a girl, I swear! I'm uhh, just, uhh, going out for coffee! That's it!" Well, that was definitely Kuwabara.
"With a girl you like?" a new voice chimed in, one Kurama didn't recognize.
"No, I just can't be late, OK?"
"Well, we wouldn't want our arcade night to get in the way of a date. Who knows, without you there, one of us might even crack the high score on one of those machines!" said another voice Kurama didn't know.
"No way! I set those high scores myself, you're not beating them!"
"Nah, no need to. Urameshi already has!"
"Hey!"
Kuwabara turned the corner, spotting Kurama. Waving excitedly, he hurried over, flanked by two other guys.
"Hey, Kurama! Long time no see!"
Wincing inwardly at the oaf bungling his name, he hissed.
"It's Shuichi in public, you moron!"
By then, Kuwabara's two friends had caught up to them. One of them, the one on the left, looked at Kurama and whistled.
"Dude, you lied to us! You were totally meeting a girl! How'd you get to know her, anyways?" Kurama felt a tick mark appear on his forehead, but he kept his calm.
"Actually," he smiled inwardly as the two boys started at his male voice, "my name is Shuichi Minamino. I'm helping Kuwabara with his schoolwork."
"Huh? Then what was that he called you before? Kura-something?" Thankfully, the two boys had taken Kurama being a guy in stride. Unfortunately, that meant they were now grilling Kurama on how he knew Kuwabara.
"It's a nickname I picked up when I was younger," Kurama said, carefully dancing around the question. "Nobody calls me that anymore. Right, Kuwabara?" He punctuated the last bit with a sharp glare that actually knocked the man back a step.
"Uhh, right Ku-Shuichi. Yeah, Shuichi."Kuwabara stuttered. Satisfied, Kurama turned to leave.
"Well, I believe that's enough for now. If we don't hurry, we won't get a good seat at the cafe." Addressing Kuwabara's two friends, he spoke. "It was nice meeting you. I'll see you around." With that, he started walking towards their usual cafe, Kuwabara hurrying to catch up.
Once they were out of earshot of the school buildings, Kuwabara turned to Kurama.
"Sorry about my guys, you know, thinking you were a girl."
"Believe me, it's not the first time," Kurama said with a wry smile in return. "I'm honestly more annoyed with you calling me Kurama. How many times do I have to tell you that it's Shuichi in public?"
"Sorry Ku- I mean Shuichi."
Now you're getting it," Kurama said with a smile. "So, are there any subjects in school you're having particular trouble with?"
Yes, this was inspired by the final episode of the anime, sue me.
