Hey! So, chapter 5 actually got out! I will end up finishing this thing! A million thanks to Musa, who managed to get my muse off their lazy behind with not one, but two amazing prompts. I actually ended up using the second one for this chapter, and the first one was good enough that I might have to find a way to slip it in somewhere (no promises though). And it's really good to know you're enjoying this story so far. I have no clue what I'm doing, writing-wise, so thanks for coming along for the ride. Next chapter should be out within a couple days.

If you are only reading this because you're bored out of your mind with the quarantine, I feel you. Also, please stay inside.

A little note: To clear up any confusion at both Kurama and his brother being called Shuichi, I will spell Kurama as "Shuichi" and his brother as "Shuuichi". I hope this clears that up.

Disclaimer: I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho.

Kurama smiled as his mother looked down at her menu, debating which of the available seafood dishes she wanted to order. It was the anniversary of Shiori's second wedding, and Kurama was treating his parents to dinner at a fancy seafood restaurant. Kurama had arranged everything so that his mother would have the best night possible. Seeing her smile made all the effort he had put into this worth it.

"Hey Shuichi, what are you getting?" Kurama's brother piped up, leaning over his shoulder to look at the fox demon's menu. "This place has some really cool desserts I can't wait to try!"

"You shouldn't be thinking about dessert before supper, Shuuichi," Kurama chastised softly. "You'll spoil your appetite." Kurama watched out of the corner of his eye as his stepfather leaned over to speak softly into his mother's ear. Shiori laughed at what he said, and Kurama let a fond smile creep onto his face. She was enjoying herself, and that was all that mattered right then.

"But Shuichi, I don't know what to get!" Shuuichi whined at his brother, tugging at Kurama's sleeve. "I want the ikayaki but the nigirizushi looks really good too! I can't choose!" Kurama smiled at his brother's antics.

"Is there one of them that you want even slightly more than the other?" Kurama inquired. His brother looked torn, hand hovering indecisively over the menu. He reached to point to the ikayaki before quickly withdrawing his hand.

"I don't know!" he wailed dramatically. "I want both!"

Kurama leaned back in his chair, a plan already formed in his mind. He had originally intended to order the kaisendon, but for the sake of his mother's peaceful evening, he would put aside his own preferences.

"How about you get the ikayaki and I'll order the nigirizushi. That way, we can share our food so you won't have to choose." Shuuichi's face lit up at that.

"Thanks Shuichi!" his brother exclaimed. "You're the best!"

"It was nothing," Kurama said modestly. He looked over at his mother to see her smiling over at him and his brother, his stepfather leaning towards her.

"That was very kind of you, Shuichi," Shiori told him, and suddenly losing his kaisendon was more than worth it.

As if sensing that a decision had been made, a waitress came over to their table holding a notepad.

"Are you ready to order?" she asked.

"Yes we are," Kurama's stepfather answered.

"I'll get the hitsumabushi, and my husband will be having the sashimi platter," Shiori told the woman, who quickly jotted down the order on her notepad. She turned to Kurama.

"And what will the young lady be having?"

Everyone sitting around the table froze. The poor waitress looked on in confusion as everyone at the table except the young redhead grew more and more tense. After a few seconds of awkward silence, Shuuichi burst out laughing. Kurama's stepfather let out a few chuckles, and even Shiori smiled slightly.

"Hah! Shuichi, she thought you were a girl!" Shuuichi positively cackled.

Kurama turned to the waitress, who was now bright red with embarrassment as she realized that Kurama was a guy. The blush deepened as she realized that he was also fairly good-looking.

"I mean, how did that happen! You're dressed in a suit!" The unfortunate waitress did a very good impression of a tomato as she belatedly noticed his outfit, which was distinctly masculine.

"It's okay," Kurama reassured her. "It happens more often than you'd think." Mollified, the girl looked up from where she'd been staring fixedly at her shoes and squeaked out.

"Your order?"

"I will have the nigirizushi, and my brother wants the ikayaki," Kurama said calmly. The waitress scribbled that down, then bowed deeply in apology and hurried off. The entire table was silent for a full five seconds before Kurama's stepfather spoke up.

"You know we're never letting you live this one down, right?"

Kurama sighed in resignation.

"I know."
