It all started in Detroit, Michigan. The world wanted, no, pleaded for advancements in technology. Scientists spent years trying to make strides. First, it was self driving cars, then robots to clean household tasks. America's kept pushing for more advancements but sometimes things don't go exactly the way you want it to. The name 'robot' was deemed too monotonous and quickly replaced by the word 'Android'. It started off with small tests and a group of androids. They were shown on TV and no one ever thought that they would become so popular. Androids were proven to be smarter, faster, and stronger than humans and they had become a global sensation. Every cooperation and company wanted them. It would be so much easier to employ an Android that you only had to pay for once. Slowly but surely, Androids were taking new jobs in society, such as; , waitresses, maids, construction workers, and soldiers.
It did take a few years before Androids were programmed for commercial use. They became nannies, household cleaners, clerks, police officers, detectives, and personal assistants for people. Soon, the employment rate skyrocketed to a whopping 37% and people were not happy. Sometimes being too audacious has consequences. Big companies refused to hire people back, Androids were much easier. These ideas spread across America quickly and Androids were everywhere. Many people had them in their homes but there were some who still didn't want any part to do with them.
One of these many people was Olivia Benson. She had always been a strong willed person and when she made a decision to stay away from Androids, she stuck with it. She had no reason to ever get one. There was nothing in her home that she couldn't handle. When news came out about Androids joining the police force, Olivia was furious.
3 months earlier:
"Are you joking? There is nothing that these pieces of metal can do that we can't!" Olivia yells, throwing the newspaper down on her desk. Fin, Carisi, and Kat all stood there in shock as their, usually calm, boss yells.
"Well, Captain, it says they can do blood analysis on science and they can see things that we can't. I think it might actually be helpful." Cat admits.
"Get out of my office. All of you." Carisi and Kat look around in confusion. They couldn't tell if she was being serious or not. "Now!" Olivia yells and they quickly leave. FIn just shakes his head and sits in the chair in front of her.
"I'm not leaving, so don't even try it." Fin says. He was right. She may outrank him but he was older than her and taught her a lot of what she knew now. She could never be rude to him,she had too much respect for him.
"You don't think this is crazy. These...things come in her and act like they can just take all of our jobs. It's sick. I don't need them trying to help out with cases, especially yours. Do you really think an Android talking to a victim is going to get the same result?" Olivia asks Fin and he just shrugs, choosing to ignore her question.
"I mean, I get your point but they might not be that bad. The commissioner says we have to choose an Android for the squad."
"Why were you on the phone with the commissioner?" She asks furrowing her brow. She thought back to the many missed calls and voicemails from him.
"You weren't answering, so he called me." He says.
"I never got his call." Olivia lies and folds her arms. She shoots a small smile at Fin and he just shakes his head.
"Uh huh. Right. Well, here's the catalog." He says placing it on his desk. Olivia grabs it and flips through it. She sees male and female Androids dressed in police uniforms.
"This is so weird, FIn. It feels weird looking to purchase human-looking things. It's like looking at the black market….FIn, Why did you circle this one?" Olivia turns the book towards him. He looks at the picture of a blonde woman, her name plastered in a big font on her page. Amanda.
"It's kind of hot."
"Gross! Fin, don't say that."
"I'm kidding. I read about her and she seems like she will be good here. She can show compassion. We definitely need that."
"Okay, I'll let him know." Olivia nods and puts the catalog in the garbage. She rolls her eyes. She didn't like what the world was coming to but you either change with it, or get left behind.
SOOOOOO. This story is a little strange and far-fetched but I hope you like it. It is a different take on SVU but I thought something different might be cool. Let me know what you think about this story.
