Beck knew it wasn't a date or anything, he hadn't wanted it to be considering he just talked to her as a person today. None the less, he got his RV picked up and bought some pizzas to make in his toaster over, in case they got hungry. 7:30pm rolled around and he heard a knock at his door. Beck answered it, a slightly annoyed look on his face. Jade noticed it but walked past him, into his RV with a blank face.
"So, what's up with the trailer trash living space?" Jade asked, no emotions present.
"My parents can be jerks and I figured being out here was better than in there." Beck shrugged. "Ready to get started?"
"Yeah, whatever." Jade groaned, plopping down on his bed and taking up the whole space by sitting cross legged.
Beck rolled his eyes and took a seat on the ground by the bed. He was already regretting this idea.
They went through the whole play, even the scenes they weren't in until they got to Jade's line.
"I don't know." She read emotionlessly.
"Really?" Beck chuckled.
"What?" she snapped back.
"That's how you're going to deliver that line? No emotions, nothing to make it memorable?"
"Why would I? It's not important." Jade said through gritted teeth, her volume rising.
"Yeah, but, you should put thought into every line you do. You're an actress."
Jade stared back at him, waiting for him to continue.
"Like I said before, you can add layers to the show even with one line. Try it again, give it something." Beck said, motioning with his hands for her to go again.
Jade frowned at him before turning back to her page, "I don't know." She said with an innocent tone.
"Good, now the audience thinks you are telling the truth." Beck smiled and nodded. "Try another."
Jade rolled her eyes, but obliged, "I don't know." She yelled in an angry tone.
Beck's eyes widened at the sudden loudness and intensity, "Okay, the audience may now be thinking you are defensive, got something to hide. Do another."
Jade was still annoyed, but was having just a bit of fun with this exercise. She understood Beck's perspective and what he was trying to explain to her, so she decided to actually try and think about how she wants this character to come across. She figured she wanted to be remembered in some way.
"I don't know." Jade said, in a light and seductive tone. Her eyes fluttered and she wore a wicked smile.
Beck's heart beat jumped for a second and he felt hot in the head. He hadn't expected her to try that type of voice, but it would lead to a lot of questions from the audience. Was the maid in love with the butler? Did she get rid of Celeste so she could be with him? Was she that way to everyone, or just him? Beck cleared his throat when he noticed Jade staring at him, waiting, with a blank face, for his opinion.
"Uh, yeah that would work." He chuckled nervously.
"Alright, I'm hungry. You got anything to eat?" Jade sighed with a slight smile.
"Oh yeah." Beck said and got up to grab the frozen pizzas.
Jade dropped her script down on the bed and followed Beck over to his "kitchen", a mere three steps. Beck laid out the three pizzas he had grabbed, a meat lovers, all veggies, and, surprisingly, a vegan option. Jade frowned at the vegan one and raised a questioning eyebrow forwards Beck.
Beck shrugged, "I didn't know if you had any diet restrictions or something like that."
Jade didn't respond, it wasn't important, and pointed at the meat one. Beck gave a smile and turned the toaster oven, preheating it before putting the pizza in. Jade walked back to the bed and looked at the TV. Before sitting down, she grabbed some movies on top of the TV stand and began looking through them. By this time, Beck had put the pizza in and came over to her.
"Don't you want to practice some more?" Beck raised his eyebrows at her.
"Nah, I'm bored with it." Jade mumbled, not looking up from the collection of films.
Beck rocked back and forth on his heels awkwardly and flapped his hands against his legs. He wasn't sure what to say now. Jade was ignoring him and focusing on the movies she found. He walked over to his couch and took a seat, looking at her and waiting for a reaction.
Jade had a great poker face, and acted like she didn't notice he existed. Beck was starting to feel uncomfortable, which was unusual for him. It's not that he wanted her to leave or anything, but he just wasn't sure what to talk about. She didn't seem interested in talking to him, or anyone. After a few minutes, he decided he might as well try anything, it couldn't go that wrong.
"So, what is your favorite class at Hollywood Arts?" Beck asked, with a light, happy tone.
"I don't like any of them, they are all a waste of my time and patience." Jade stated without looking up.
Beck's lips squeezed together in a thin line, "Okay well why do you even go to this school then?"
"What do you think I'm not talented enough?" Jade yelled, snapping her head to the side.
"No, no, I was just wondering, if it is such a waste, why don't you go to a different school?" he quickly explained.
"Where else would I go? Is there some other school that called you up and offered you a spot?"
"No, I just," Beck went on to explain but decided against it, "Never mind."
"What do you mean never mind?" Jade growled.
"I'm done talking about it, as long as you keep being angry." Beck stated simply, a small smile on his face.
Beck got up to check on the pizza while Jade stayed on the bed, watching him curiously. She had never had someone stop her in the middle of a fight, usually it ended with Jade chasing the person off or causing the person so much frustration that they stomp off and never looked back. Beck had just stopped it before she got out of hand and went about like nothing had happened.
He took out the pizza and cut it into slices. Jade was surprised when he came back with a plate for her. She accepted it calmly, and suddenly felt bad about over reacting. Beck sat down on the couch again, taking a bite of his pizza.
"I like Sikowitz." She stated.
Beck raised an eyebrow, before remembering the recent conversation, "He's my favorite teacher, too."
Beck gave a light smile while Jade just turned away and began eating her pizza while looking, once again, at the small collection of movies laid out in front of her.
"So," he started, wiping some sauce off his face, "did you want to watch any of those?" he motioned towards the movies.
Jade shrugged, "You don't have any horror movies."
Beck nodded, "That I do not. Do you only watch horror movies?"
Jade frowned, wondering why he was trying to talk to her again, "No. I just really like watching them."
"What one is your favorite?"
Jade's frown eased up and she relaxed more, "The Scissoring."
"The movie about the girl that killed her friends with scissors?"
Jade smiled evilly, "Yeah."
"Well," Beck groaned as he stood up, and grabbed a movie, "why don't we watch…...Sharknado?" Beck smiled widely.
Jade frowned again, "Are you serious?"
"What's more terrifying than a tornado full of sharks?"
"Ugh, I suppose!" Jade whined.
Beck gave a small smile and put in the movie, before grabbing himself, and Jade, another piece of pizza.
The movie was interesting, for lack of a kind word. Jade spent the first half of it complaining about the horrible acting and scenery. She regularly groaned when something cliché or ridiculous happened, annoyed with the lack of scare factor and suspense. Beck wasn't super into the movie either, but he enjoyed watching Jade's reactions. She ended up laying down in his bed, head on his pillow so he couldn't really see her face.
The movie ended and Beck got up to stretch and picked up his and Jade's dishes. When he went to grab her plate, he noticed Jade had fallen asleep and was drooling on his pillow. Beck chuckled and lightly and continued to clean up the plates and glasses. After he put the dishes in the sink, he returned to Jade's side and place a gentle hand on her upper arm. He gave a little squeeze to try and wake her quietly, but she didn't respond. He then squeezed and gave her a little shake, this caused her to groan and frown in her sleep.
"Jade." He whispered, "Jade, you fell asleep. Wake up."
Jade groaned louder and slightly opened her eyes. Before the image came into focus, she screamed and swung her arm at him. Beck, impressively, was able to lean back, out of range and catch himself before he fell backwards. Jade sat up quickly and looked around sporadically, clearly confused.
"Jade, it's okay. You're okay." Beck said calmly, standing back up and reaching to touch her face.
Jade slapped his hand away before he could make contact and glared at him, "Don't touch me."
"Sorry, I just wanted to make sure you were alright." Beck said, remaining calm.
"I'm fine." Jade sighed, running her fingers through her hair. "I should get home."
"Yeah, do you want a ride?" Beck went to grab his keys.
"No, I walked here and I can walk back."
Beck shrugged, her choice after all. Jade gathered her stuff and thanked him for the food without making eye contact, then she was gone. Beck ran a hand through his hair and sighed. It had been a night full of ups and downs. It was calm and then intense, comfortable and awkward. Overall though, Beck was happy he got to spend some quality time with Jade. She wasn't as horrible as others made her out to be.
