Jade made to her front door around 1:30 in the morning, she turned the handle and walked in to find her parents standing behind the door, arms crossed and stern looks. Jade rolled her eyes and sighed, not this old thing again.
"Alright," she said, shutting the door and setting her purse and keys down, "let me have it."
"Jade, this isn't a joke. We warned you about breaking curfew." Her mother started.
"I have never not broken curfew." Jade frowned.
"Jade!" her father yelled. "You will, from this point on, follow every rule we lay out for you, got it?"
Jade scoffed, "Why would I do that? I am almost an adult and once I am able to, I am getting the hell out of this house!"
"Why wait then?" her father said, grabbing her by the arm and forcing her out of the house.
He pushed her out onto the stoop and slammed the door behind her. Jade could hear her mother pleading with her father, but there was no way to change his mind. After a minute or two, everything was quiet and Jade was left without money or her car keys. She tried to open the door, but her father must have locked it already.
Beck paced back and forth in his RV, arguing with himself. He was sweating and looked disheveled, clearing concerned he had made a mistake.
"I should have kissed her. But she looked so scared. Of course she looked scared, it could have been her first kiss. No, she has probably been kissed before. Pff yeah by who, her grandma?" Beck groaned loudly, pulling lightly at his hair. "I need to fix this. What if she thinks I'm not serious now? What if she thinks this could still be a joke? How can a prove it to her? By kissing her you idiot! UGH!"
Beck plopped down on his bed. He felt like he needed to do something, but what? The moment has past, how could he get another chance now? A second date? Sure, but what if she says no? She said no the first time and he wasn't even able to ask her if she had a good time. Beck was too much of an anxious mess right now, he had to have answers before he could even attempt to sleep.
Jade was sitting on her front steps, trying to figure out where she would sleep tonight. She didn't have anyone she could go to, at least not on foot, and ask to stay with them. Her only good thought was that, maybe her parents left the screened in side porch door unlocked and she could sleep in one of the chairs.
As she was about to settle on that idea, bright lights shined directly on her and she stood up to see who it was. The car lights went off and she recognized Beck's car. Jade internally groaned and external rolled her eyes, she wasn't sure why he was here, but she wasn't up for visitors.
"Jade?" he questioned, walking up to stand in front of her, "What are you doing out here?"
"I'm just.…enjoying the night." She shrugged.
"Really?" he raised an eyebrow and chuckled.
"Yeah, now what are you doing here?" Jade crossed her arms.
"Oh um, well, I was just um, wondering if you wanted to go on a second date with me sometime?"
Jade frowned, making Beck hold his breath, "Sure, whatever."
"Awesome. Now, how about you go to bed." Beck smiled, a daring look in his eyes.
Jade's eyes narrowed, "I'm not tired."
"Okay, well I just want to make sure you get in safely."
"I don't need you watching out for me, you aren't my boyfriend."
Beck's smile dropped a bit, knowing that she was trying to scare him off, by hitting him where it hurts.
"I'll wait up with you then." He shrugged, steeping closer to the stairs and sitting down.
Jade sighed, knowing she wouldn't be able to wait him out because she was already so tired. She began walking up the stairs, looking back at Beck who remained seated, but turned to watch her.
"Okay, I'm going in. Bye."
"Good night." He responded sweetly, remaining still.
Jade turned back to the door, staring into the brown wood, finally admitting she wouldn't be able to trick him into leaving. She sighed and turned on her heels away from him. She heard him give a small chuckle.
"What did you lock yourself out?"
"Something like that." She whispered.
Beck picked up on the sad underlying tones, and decided not to tease her anymore. He stood up and walked up to stand behind her, but kept distance as well.
"Well, is there anywhere you can stay until you… get a lock smith out here?"
"My purse, with my wallet and keys, are inside."
Beck nodded, so that took away the hotel option, and he wasn't even going to ask about friends or family.
"Okay, you can stay with me tonight." Beck stated, starting to walk down the stairs.
"What? No, I'm not spending the night with you." Jade whipped around.
"Would you rather sleep outside?"
"I'm not going over to your house. We just went on one date and I barley know you and it makes me feel uncomfortable." Jade whined, obviously tired and upset.
Beck looked down in thought, "Well, what if you did it as a favor to me?"
Jade frowned back at him, not understanding how she could be doing him a favor by intruding.
"See, there is this movie I was told I should watch," Beck started, "but I hear it's really scary and I don't want to watch it alone." Beck shrugged.
Jade held onto her frown, still unsure where this was going, "What movie?"
"The Scissoring."
Jade's frown loosened a bit and she watched as Beck walked over to his car, opening the passenger side door and turning to look at her with soft eyes. He was lucky she was so tired, because it would have been the fight of a life time if she had been well rested. Jade huffed and crossed her arms as she walked over to Beck and took her spot back in his car again. Beck smiled secretly as he closed her door and walked over to his side.
