Beck and Jade walked into the RV, relief washing over Beck, knowing he had Jade safe and sound for the night. Jade on the other hand, was more nervous now. She wasn't sure how this night was going to go, she didn't know a lot about guys and how they thought, but she knew for a fact she wasn't going to do anything she didn't want to. Still, it made her nervous as she watched Beck set up the DVD player, wondering what he expected.
Beck looked over at Jade, seeing she hadn't moved far from the place in the kitchen where he left her. He smiled gently, knowing she must be uncomfortable and scared. Beck had never been in this situation either. He had had girls over before, a few stayed the night, but they slept separately and nothing intense happened, just a casual sleep over with a longer- term girlfriend, no big deal. He had just never had a girl come into his RV and be upset about it. He wasn't confident but he knew he needed to try and help her relax.
"You hungry?" he asked.
"What are you going to make another pizza?"
"I also have chicken nuggets." He smiled towards her.
Jade looked away, taking in all the posters and objects hung on Beck's walls. She hadn't really cared about his décor or interests when she first came over, she didn't even want to be there, but now it was better than looking at him.
Beck watched her carefully, recognizing how she tried to distract herself by studying his things. He looked over her body. Noticed how she was still in her clothes from their date, meaning she must not have had time to change before getting kicked out. He assumed that's what happened. He knew she had problems with her family, knew she had a purse with her on their date, and saw the multiple cars parked in their driveway.
"Here." He said suddenly, walking over to his dresser. "You can change into these if you want."
Jade glared at the bundle of clothes he brought over to her. It looked like a t-shirt and some long, colored pants, nothing too weird, but she grimaced anyway.
"They are clean, I promise." Beck laughed.
Jade rolled her eyes and grabbed the clothes dramatically. She then made her way to the small bathroom. Beck shook his head and chuckled to himself. He then went over to the microwave and began making popcorn. Whether she was hungry or not, it went well with movies. While he stood, staring at the flat bag that was slowly getting bigger, his mind wandered to the girl in his bathroom. He knew she would be stripping down and changing her clothes now, and even though he knew it was kind of creepy, he smiled at the thought. Believe it or not, this was also new to him. Beck didn't have any girls that had come into his RV and gotten practically naked in his bathroom so quickly. The microwave beeped and he poured the contents into a large bowl, flinching at the heat of the bag. He grabbed two sodas as well out of the fridge and went to sit on the bed. Beck looked at the door, hearing the faucet going, and once again his thoughts were brought back to what Jade was doing in the bathroom. She was probably clothed now, but what did she look like in his clothes.
He was broken out of his thoughts by the bathroom door opening and closing. He looked up to see Jade, standing in his black "Road Trip" t-shirt and his yellow and black plaid pajama pants. She had also washed off most of her make-up. Her face was red, probably from the rubbing, and she looked much softer. Her face wasn't covered with the dark eyes and rosy cheeks. Beck offered a smile, but it was awkward as he felt his face heat up. Another new, was seeing a girl completely dressed in his clothes. Sure, he offered a girl his jacket or an extra t-shirt for gym class, but Jade was covered in his wardrobe.
Beck stood and walked over to her, seeing the questioning look in her eyes. He held his hands out, taking her clothes from her hands. Jade didn't release them right away, a bit because she wasn't sure what he was doing, and a bit because she liked the closeness. Beck, too, noticed their small proximity and glanced up into her eyes, once again smiling. Jade breathed in deeply before letting go of the clothes and stepping back, unable to handle his gaze. Beck's smile faltered just a bit. He had once again considered kissing her, but she pulled away before he could decide.
He took her clothes and set them on the kitchen table before ushering her to the bed. Jade cautiously sat on the bed, scooting back so her feet dangled off the edge and her back was against the wall. Beck took his place next to her, but left enough space to fit the popcorn bowl in between the two. The both of them sat back as Beck turned on the movie and the commercials for other movies played.
"I thought you didn't have this movie." Jade said, grabbing a handful of popcorn.
"I didn't. I bought it this morning." Beck explained.
"Why?"
"Well, I figured I would either use it as an ace in the hole for our first date, or it could be our second. I figured wrong." He chuckled softly.
Jade smirked a bit, before directing her attention to the TV.
They watched the movie with little to no talking. Sometimes Jade would make snarky comments about the characters' choices or point out little facts about how certain scenes were shot. Beck realized how much Jade really did enjoy this movie, she knew so much about it. Beck smiled, making a quiet noise as he breathed out a laugh. Jade heard and when she turned, she caught him smiling.
"What? Is my commentary stupid to you?" she questioned, defensively.
"No," Beck responded quickly, "I think it's cute how much you love this movie."
Jade's frown disappeared as she snapped her head back to stare at the TV. The lights were off and the only light was coming from the screen, which was also pretty dark because, horror movies. Despite the lack of lighting, Beck still could see she wasn't upset, just shying away from the romance he tried to instill.
Once again, he felt the urge to kiss her, but she was so far away and he had just made her uncomfortable. Usually he would want a girl to be wanting the kiss too, and it was easy to tell when they wanted it, but Jade shut down every time he tried to set the mood. Sure, it was only their first date, or second kind of, but still, she gives him no clues as to when she is content. He just can't tell when the right moment is for her, and he wonders if he ever will.
"Hey." Beck said, grabbing her attention.
"What?" she whispered, watching the TV intensely.
"Did you enjoy our first date?"
Jade frowned and pulled her attention away from the movie. She looked his in the eyes, seeing he was serious about hearing her answer. Jade sighed and grabbed the remote in order to pause the movie. She knew he was going to want to talk about something, get all deep on her.
"Yeah, it was a good time." She shrugged.
"Really?"
"Yeah" she said again, shrugging.
"Did you like meeting Badger?" Beck pried.
Jade sighed, "Yes, he is a good dog."
"And did you like my friend's hunted maze, house, thing?"
"Yeah, they put on a good show." Jade exhaled.
"You even liked the star gazing?"
"Okay Beck, why does it matter so much? I already said I'd got on another date with you."
"I just want to make sure you had a fun time."
"It was fun!" she exclaimed, exasperatedly.
"Okay!" he said loudly back to her.
The room grew quiet again, Jade had decided not to play the movie yet, because she could feel him putting together something to say.
"I just, I can't tell when you are having a good time. You don't give me much of a reaction, and you make sarcastic comments all the time." Beck explained.
"I know, I'm hard to read." Jade groaned. "It's just the way I am."
"Well, can you just let me know once in a while that I am making you happy?"
Jade frowned and locked eye contact with him, "Why do you care so much?"
"Because I like you Jade, a lot, and I want us to have fun together and I need to know what you are thinking and how you feel." Beck explained, mildly frantic.
Jade lowered her gaze, in thought, "Fine. I had a really good time on our date. I'm excited to go on another one. And I'm happy you came over to my house when you did." She said, trying to sound nonchalant, but allowing a bit of sweetness to be heard.
Beck smiled, "I'm glad I did too."
"Speaking of which, why did you come over? You know you could've texted or called to ask me out again?" Jade frowned, looking at him again.
"Oh um, well, I like to do things like that in person." Beck smiled, saving himself.
"At 2 in the morning?" Jade questioned further.
"Ah, I just couldn't wait I guess." Beck laughed nervously.
"Beck, come on, I was honest with you, now you be honest with me."
Beck sighed, running a hand through his hair, before he lowered his head and swooped in to kiss Jade. He pressed his lips to hers, softly at first, but when she didn't pull away, he moved in closer. The kiss only lasted a few seconds, and nothing special, but Beck was working to control his breathing when they parted. He watched Jade's facial expression. She had a great poker face, but he could see the blush creeping up her face and the confusion in her eyes.
"That's why." Beck whispered, smiling slightly.
Jade smiled back, the first real smile Beck had seen from her. It made Beck smile more, as did when Jade moved the popcorn out from between them and crawled closer. She cupped his face between both of her hands and brought her lips to his this time. Beck's hands cautiously moved up to lay on her waist. She was being bold now, but he didn't want to move past her boundaries. She didn't seem to react when he held her, only continued to pressed her mouth to his and move in a steady rhythm. Her hands traveled into his hair, as did his. This time the kiss lasted over a minute, and when they parted, Jade was smiling again.
Beck smiled back as he watched her shift so that her head was on his chest and her body was curled up next to his. He draped his arm over her casually, grabbing the remote in the process and turning the movie back on. He didn't really care to see the rest of the movie, as the drowsiness finally had caught up with him and he drifted off to sleep.
