Rey wrapped the lightsabers from her fallen heroes in a cloth and set them on the sand. They were wrapped like a burial shroud, the burial they could never get, since they had become one with the Force. To bury them just outside the childhood home of Luke Skywalker seemed appropriate somehow. How she knew this was where he was raised eluded her, and as she thought on it, a reality dawned on her she did want to accept. 'No, it can't be,' she thought to herself as she mentally ran from those thoughts.
Rey pushed the lightsabers down into the ground, just as she pushed those fleeting thoughts away. An elderly woman approached her and asked her name.
"Rey."
"Rey who?"
Rey looked into the distance and saw the ghosts of her heroes; Luke and Leia. She had to reject her old name and embrace theirs. "Rey Skywalker."
The woman disappeared from Rey's view as she admired the twin suns of Tatooine set. It was a beautiful view. Light from it encompassed her entire view. The thoughts returned, and the world around her faded as the light got brighter. She had to accept the truth eventually.
Rey opened her eyes. She was still in a hot, sandy desert, but this was Jakku, not Tattooine.
Excitement from the dream was still fresh in her mind as she went through her morning routine. Later in the day, on her way to scavenging a ship, she saw her boyfriend, Ben, and told him about her dream. He found it hilarious.
"A Sith lord?!" He laughed. "And grandson to Darth Vader?!"
"I know!" Rey knew he would love it. He was such a sweet guy, the idea that he could be an evil, abusive Sith lord was laughable. "And you killed Han Solo."
"That's really dark." Ben chuckled as he walked along with Rey to the ship. "He's a decorated war hero, Rey."
"Wasn't he a smuggler?"
"Only before the war," said Ben. "He never went back to it."
"You sure you're not related to him?"
"Im definitely not related to him," Ben said. "Lots of people got the name Solo issued to them by the Empire.
"Oh, that's interesting actually," said Rey. "Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you. I was the granddaughter to Palpatine."
"As in, Emperor Palpatine?" Ben asked, to which Rey nodded. Ben laughed so hard he snorted. "This dream makes no sense at all!"
"I know!" Rey joined in his laughter. "And then, I took the name Skywalker."
"That's just conceited," Ben teased.
"Hey, what's so funny?"
"Hey Finn," said Ben. "Rey was just telling me about her dream last night where I was a Sith Lord and she was the granddaughter to the old Emperor Palpatine."
"Who came back to life!" Rey added.
"What? How?" Ben asked.
Rey shrugged. "It was a dream."
Finn chuckled. "And what was I? A Stormtrooper or something?"
"Well actually-"
"No!"
"Well, I mean, you were a reformed Stormtrooper. But still a janitor somehow - I don't know, it didn't make sense."
"Man, even as a Stormtrooper, I'm still the janitor. That sucks."
A jolt of realization went through Rey. "What was it you wanted to tell me yesterday?"
"What?"
"You said you wanted to tell me something yesterday, but we got interrupted, by the bouncer Hux," Rey said. "That was also part of my dream."
"I hate that bouncer," Finn said. "I swear he would join the Empire if it was still around. But yeah, that Republic pilot, Poe I think his name was, is leaving tomorrow. His leave is almost over and he has to return to duty."
"I'm going to miss him," Ben said. "Glad we met him at the cantinas though. He told the best stories about the Galactic Civil War. Probably why Rey had such a crazy dream."
Rey nodded. "Come to think of it, yeah, the dream followed that story pretty close."
"Poe is pretty cool. His wife was annoying though."
"The girl with pink hair was his wife?!" Ben asked.
"I know, right?" Finn said. "No idea why he is with her."
Rey could've sworn she heard Finn say the Poe should be with him under his breath. She chose not to say anything about it.
"We need to buy him some drinks before he leaves the planet," Ben said.
"Definitely," Finn said.
"Hey Finn, how's that girl you met last night night?"
"Rose?" Finn shrugged. "Left this morning. Probably won't be back, I saw her get on a ship. Don't tell me she was in the dream?"
Rey shrugged. "Sort of. I think. She helped you knock over a casino or something."
"A casino?" Finn asked. "I thought this dream was about the Rebels and the Empire?"
"Yeah, that part didn't make sense to me either." Rey shrugged.
