You look upon the results of your work and puff out your chest with pride. You were able to dispose of the maggots, clean up the yard and plant various different alchemical herbs and vegetables. It was quite satisfying to see an afternoon's worth of hard work pay off, not to mention this will make it easier to prepare meals while you stay at Veigar's place. Your short celebrations are sadly cut short by a nearby door creaking open.
"Minion." Her tone is quick and stern, this tone only being amplified by her tapping her foot expectantly on the front step of her house.
"Shit." You curse under your breath. Quickly spinning to face her you try to think of what to say next. "Hey Veigar! I just fixed your garden since it seemed a bit barren before, now you won't have to go search for all your ingredients since you can grow some at home!" You sheepishly smile, trying desperately to sound genuine.
The irritated expression on her face fades and is replaced by one of pleasant surprise. She seems completely speechless at first, her mouth completely agape as she tries to find the words she wants to say. "Uh yes, thank you minion." She shows her appreciation awkwardly as if she's not used to displaying such things.
"You are welcome, oh great master Veigar!" You give a greatly exaggerated bow, she still seems thrown off by your sudden attempts to be respectful towards her but in spite of this she walks over towards the part of the garden you were working on. Reaching down into the bag you brought back from your trip that was filled with all sorts of gardening materials, she pulls out a handful of seeds and walks back inside her hut while gesturing for you to follow.
You crouch inside the doorway and move slowly into the main room, 'The inside of this hut is so tiny it feels like the walls and ceiling are trying to crush me' you think to yourself. Maybe Veigar will let you eventually build a bigger house? It's a stretch but she might be more willing to let you do that once you gain her trust based on her positive response to you renovating her garden.
She carefully identifies each individual seed before dropping them in the cauldron one at a time, while she does this you take note of the fact that she does in fact use the same cauldron for both bathing and making potions. 'Very strange' You decide to ask her about this habit. "So does Yordle fur have magical properties or something?" She turns her head to look up at you.
"Very perceptive minion, you might be intelligent enough to be considered my assistant rather than my peon." The statement obviously being said in a sarcastic and mocking tone. You brush it off and don't respond to it since you're sure it'll just piss her off, you wouldn't want the small amount of progress you've made to be flushed down the drain anyway.
You look around the room to try and distract yourself while she gets to work on whatever potion she's brewing. There are various ingredients hanging from the ceiling, different magical bits and baubles scattered across tables inside the room. You walk over to the table and decide to pick one of the objects up, it's a small blue cube with a golden trim. You turn it around and find a button on the bottom, pressing it the cube unfolds and inside it you find a crumpled up piece of paper. You straighten it out and see that it's a photo of two smiling Yordles and on the back is a hastily scribbled message. 'Don't forget'.
"Minion!? What are you doing with that? Give it back now!" Veigar bounces up and down while attempting to swat the cube and paper out of your hands.
"Woah, woah, woah. I'll give it back on the condition that you'll tell me what it means." She ignores your attempts to negotiate and snatches both items from you and stores the piece of paper back in the cube, putting it in her pocket.
You don't think that you've seen her care so much about something before, the photo must have a lot of sentimental value and you can't help but wonder why. An old friend perhaps? Lover? It could be anything as far as you know but it seems you won't be getting that information any time soon as you can see her absolutely fuming at you.
"What makes you think you can barge in here and start trifling through all my personal things!? You think you're owed any information? That you can just take whatever you wish!?" Her face is scrunched up in utter anger and rage, it's an expression that says a thousand words with a tinge of betrayal. You've clearly crossed some boundaries and feel a bit bad for upsetting her so much but you're not sure if you'll be able to compensate for angering her to this extent.
"Ok I've really crossed a line, I'm terribly sorry Veigar. You clearly care about it a lot and I shouldn't have done that. I won't do it again." It calms her fury slightly but she's still very irritated at you.
"'You better be sorry!" She waves her fist at you but doesn't do much more. She could've easily blasted you into dust, she's perfectly capable of such a thing but she hesitates. It seems that in spite of you invading her personal space and belongings she still appreciates some of the things you've done for her up until now enough that she doesn't push the issue further.
"Just don't do it again" She says before turning away from you to continue working on her potion brewing. You get the feeling that she wants to be left alone so you go out the back to what is now your regular sleeping spot. You toss out the portable tent and crawl inside it as usual, collapsing face first into the pillow and sigh.
'This whole interpersonal relationship stuff is really difficult.' Thinking back on the whole situation up until now you've kind of treated her less like a person and more like a personal project to change for your own benefit. You'd never really considered her feelings since she had been so abrasive previously but now you understand how that could be pretty harmful. You now realize that all the times you openly mocked her just perpetuated how others already treated her, that inferiority complex of her clearly has to stem from something.
Whatever the reason is you'll have to figure it out tomorrow, but this time you'll try and give her some time before asking her directly. For now your eyelids start to slowly close, you take a deep breath before falling asleep.
