The chaos was over. Whiplash was dead and gone. Those who were injured were getting the help they needed. Pepper and I had been sending out press releases constantly. More than that, I was trying not to stress out from the day before.

Nikki wasn't giving me any chances for that.

She hadn't let me think about anything stressful.

She had mastered the 'carrot and the stick' routine.

In exchange for me not panicking about nearly losing myself to my darker side, I could experiment how her powers worked.

Like I said, she had mastered it.

The call of Science was much stronger than the call of Panic.

Yes they were both capitalized.

They deserved it.

Tony and I were sitting in a SHIELD blacksite. If anyone asked- and yes, I checked with JARVIS- this building was just abandoned. Definitely the protocol for a SHIELD blacksite. They had dragged us here not long after all the bases were covered at the Expo. The table in the middle of the empty warehouse had three folders on it. The Avengers Initiative, and our profile assessments.

It was clear to me why it was happening, hence why I hadn't teleported out yet. Tony was staring at the multiple glass screens around us. They all showed multiple news outlets, or read reports written from last night.

I was on my phone.

Tony was much less assured in what was around us. He tried sneaking a peek over my shoulder.

"Just telling accounting to send 10k to a celebrity's favorite charity." I informed him. "Nothing exciting."

"Why?" Tony asked.

"She slipped 'assclowns' into an interview- it was seamless. I gave a challenge- it was met." I explained.

"It looks like you're on Twitter." Tony stated.

"I can multitask." I excused, defensive.

Tony tried to look over my shoulder again. I hid the phone against my chest. "Are you texting Nikki?"

My head rolled back. Opening my mouth, I let out a groan to the ceiling. "She's being an idiot!"

I tossed the phone at him. My free hands dug into my hair, ruffling the curls. Tony read over the thread between Nikki and I.

Iron Ass-Ass-In NikDikPik: I love free food!

Yes I Am The Daughter Person NightMistress: THAT'S NOT FREE FOOD! YOU'RE GRABBING IT THEN TELEPORTING AWAY!

Yes I Am The Daughter Person NightMistress: QUIT MISUSING TELEPORTING! YOU'RE GIVING IT A BAD NAME!

Iron Ass-Ass-In NikDikPik: That still counts as free.

Yes I Am The Daughter Person NightMistress: QUIT STEALING.

Iron Ass-Ass-In NikDikPik: MAKE ME!

Yes I Am The Daughter Person NightMistress: YOU WANNA GO?!

Iron Ass-Ass-In NikDikPik: YEAH I WANNA GO!

Yes I Am The Daughter Person NightMistress: YOU AND ME BEHIND TACO BELL!

Iron Ass-Ass-In NikDikPik: I SHALL LOAD UP AND THEN SQUARE UP

Yes I Am The Daughter Person NightMistress: DON'T STEAL FROM THE BELL

Iron Ass-Ass-In NikDikPik: FUCK YOU I'LL DO WHAT I WANT

Yes I Am The Daughter Person NightMistress: YOU ARE NOT THE GUY WHO DOES THE THING!

Iron Ass-Ass-In NikDikPik: DID YOU JUST ALMOST SHOUT HIS NAME

Iron Ass-Ass-In NikDikPik: DO IT

Iron Ass-Ass-In NikDikPik: DO IT RIGHT NOW

Yes I Am The Daughter Person NightMistress: YOU ARE DEAD! MEAT!

Tony was chuckling.

"Could you disown me?" I deadpanned.

"No." Tony tossed the phone back. "I'm happy to be an only child."

"No. You're happy I'm suffering."

"I am. It's great." Tony grinned. He glanced down at the Avengers folder on the desk. He picked it up.

I tensed in my seat, willing myself not to react.

I'm not at all interested in what Natasha thinks about me

But I'm also desperate to know what she thinks about me

Then I can complain to Nikki and debate an assassination

Debate...yes...just debate...

Fury appeared. He smacked the file from Tony's hands.

"I don't think I want you looking at that. I'm not sure it pertains to you anymore." Fury dismissed. He picked up the other folders on the table. "Now these on the other hand, are Agent Romanoff's assessments of you. Read it."

He held it out towards Tony.

Tony didn't take it.

Right. Being handed things.

I took the files. Tony held up his hand, I slid the file into his hand.

Tony flipped it open. "'Personality Review. Mr Stark displays compulsive behaviour.' In my own defence, that was last week." Fury stared at him with the one eye, silently telling him to keep going. "'Prone to self-destructive tendencies.' I was dying. I mean, please. Aren't we all? 'Textbook narcissism'?" Tony paused. He looked up at me.

I gave him a half-hearted stare.

Tony took that as me confirming. "Agreed."

"My turn." Opening my file, I read over the profile assessment. "Personality Review: Ms Stark displays paranoid behavior- it's not paranoia if I was literally being watched by a government agent for an assessment of my character. Or to see what weapons I had. Plus you've seen what my sister is like, paranoia is just the smart route."

Fury said nothing.

I read on. "Sociopathic tendencies- wait what? I'm actually curious about that one. '-in the forms of pathological lying, manipulation, glibness, little to no remorse over her actions-' Okay, I feel plenty of remorse, I just don't show it to people I think are spying on me. Is that a crime? Did that become a crime?"

Fury blinked.

"I don't like you. '-prone to fits of anger and rage-' The timing on that was poor. '-being overly callous, and criminal versatility'?! I don't take pride in getting away with crimes, those charges were bogus and everyone in that room knew it. But you got me with pathological lying-"

"Finish them." Fury prompted.

Tony opened his folder again. "Okay, here it is. 'Recruitment assessment for Avenger Initiative. Iron Man? Yes.'" He dropped the file on the table. "I gotta think about it."

I finished mine, neglecting to read it outloud.

Recruitment assessment for Avenger Initiative: Night Mistress.

Yes

Becky Stark not recommended

"Read on."

"'Tony Stark not- Not recommended'? That doesn't make any sense. How can you approve me but not approve me? I got a new ticker. I'm trying to do right by Pepper. I'm in a stable-ish relationship. The kid and I are bonding like family are supposed to. Becky?"

Fury stood up from the table. He looked to the holohraphic displays around us. Tuning us out, was he? Well then I guess we can say as we please. Or we could, if we weren't being recorded by no doubt at least ten bugs in here.

"I got the same." I dropped the file onto the table. "Sociopaths can form emotional connections, it's just hard. Yes I formed the connection with my sister quick enough, but it's a sibling so I feel like you always get that 'Caine instinct'. Right? That's normal for dealing with siblings, right?"

Update: must not tell Nikki about the report

She'll laugh

A lot

Cause like...damn...a lot of those were so true.

Have I become a sociopath?

Nah...it said tendencies.

And half of those were wrong, so I'm fine.

...right?

"Which leads us to believe at this juncture we'd only like to use you as consultants." Fury informed us.

Tony and I exchanged a quick look. At my nod, we rose up to our feet. Tony held his hand up to Fury.

Fury shook.

"You can't afford us." Tony countered.

At the comment, I grabbed his shoulder to teleport us out.

Tony held up his hand to me. I gave him an incredulous look. He ruined the dramatic exit.

"Then again, I will waive the customary retainer in exchange for a small favor. Rhodey, the kids, and I are being honored in Washington and we need a presenter." Tony offered.

Fury glanced to me.

"...I want Phil Coulson's personal phone number." I countered. Fury made a surprised expression. Well surprised for Fury. "He's the cool one. I wanna text him jokes."

"I'll see what I can do." Fury replied.

We had made it to Washington for our presentations. Pepper had been searching for my newest secretary since the last quit on me. Still, she found time to remind the Starks to dress in proper attire for the event.

Tony wore the same suit and tie combo he had from the trial. Rhodey was in his military dress. Myself, wore a dark pink pantsuit. Nikki wore...clothes. She wore clothes that I ripped off and burned, then gave her better clothes. A black dress, with lace short sleeves and an exposed midriff.

Better than before.

It was the best I could get her into before we would've been late.

"Girl, you won't believe it." Nikki looped her arm around mine.

"You're right. I don't." I replied.

"You remember Steve, from Chronicle, not from MCU?" Nikki asked.

"It was a found footage movie that I watched with my own two eyes, of course I remember every detail of it. Why?"

Nikki was practically shaking with excitement, like a kid who just saw a superhero. "He's the guy that was my brother here. I just some him in the back of the crowd."

"...you are shitting me."

"Nope. Dude who died in after getting god powers is my power in a world where I have the god powers. I really wanna kill him now." Nikki requested.

"Request denied." I replied, keeping my voice low so as not to catch anyone's attention

"I wouldn't use my powers. I'd be more creative than that." Nikki asked, also keeping her voice low.

I shook my head. "If you recognize him, then it means he's a character. Somehow. I guess. Maybe in phase 2 we'll see it."

Nikki pouted. "What if I don't get to kill him?"

"You were put in his family. Chances are, he's not Avenger material." I pointed out.

Nikki hummed. "Good point...hey you never told me what Natasha diagonsed you with."

I clammed up. "I refuse."

Nikki smirked wide. "It was real, wasn't it?"

"I'm not saying anything."

"Why didn't you reply to my tweet?"

"I'm trying to listen to the senator."

"Liar." Nikki teased. I winced. "Holy shit- she nailed you as a pathological liar, didn't she?"

"No she di- shut up."

"You just lied. You've lied half this conversation."

"No I- I said shut up."

Nikki snickered, only barely stopping himself from having full body laughs. "I bet the rest was accurate too."

"Shut up shut up shut up."

I was straightening out my pantsuit as the presentations began.

"It is my honor to be here today to present these distinguished awards to Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes, Mr Tony Stark and Ms Becky Stark, who are, of course, national treasures, and Ms Nikki Stevens."

Nikki preened. "That's me." She whispered.

"I'm a national treasure." I whispered back.

"You're gonna steal the declaration of indepence."

I snorted.

"Thank you Lieutenant Colonel, for such and exceptionally distinguished performance. You deserve this." The senator told Rhodey.

"Thank you sir." He replied, orderly and professionally and just all around nice.

The senator gave a tight smile as he slid over to Tony. "Mr Stark. Thank you for such an...exceptionally distinguished performance. You deserve this." He pressed the medal onto Tony's suit. Tony twitched. "Oh, sorry. Funny how annoying a little prick can be, isn't it?"

Nikki snickered. I had to clamp my lips shut as Stern was stepping in front of me. "Ms Stark. Thank you for your exceptionally distinguished performance. I hope you get all that you deserve."

Stern gifted me with a medal. It dug into my skin a pinch. My powers fixed it before there was even a lick of pain.

I preened at the shiny medal on my blazer. "Thank you, Mr Senator." I replied, polite and innocent as one could be.

Nikki smirked at my side. The senator stuck one on her dress. "I'm a prostitute. Heard you were an expert on my kind. Thanks, for giving me a little prick."

Do not laugh

Do not laugh Pepper will kill you

Do not laugh, Morgan, or I swear to the Author you will die.

The best I could manage was a tightly composed smile.

"Let's get a photo." Stern ordered, eager to move on from what Nikki just said.

I can't even be mad. That was funny. So Authordamn funny that I'm gonna be sick when I'm finally allowed to laugh.

At least I didn't have to fake a smile for the cameras.

They stayed in this world for two more months after. Both of them taking advantage of Nikki's new power set. There was a lot of training to be had around those abilities, things that Nikki would have to learn when they returned for the Avengers.

Becky had to work on things for that time too. Things that would take more than the calulated year left until the Invasion of New York.

Becky didn't sense her dark self in her mind even once. Nor would she, for a while yet.

But she was watching.

Always, always watching.

And waiting.

For just the right time to shine.

AN: Y'all I had to look up the differences between sociopath/psychopath. Morgan was a solid half on both lists. I don't think it's a solid yes for either, just enough to be a concern. It was a blast to see how much actually counted for her.

As for Nikki here at the end...fuck I loved that. I couldn't let that slide without a joke from Nikki.

The twitter exchange was actually something I came up with after reading so many jazzgirlsworld fics on ArchiveOfOurOwn. She does a lot of fics of Twitter posts for MCU charcters. Shameless plug for a story I really like.
