Blaine hated the Cheerios. There was no way around it. He was miserable, it was absolutely no fun whatsoever, and Sue was a monster.
She had them practicing five days a week from 3:30 until six, and then they had football games and pep rallies to cheer at, so there was never a real break from it.
Ever since he had broken up with Kurt and the glee club had been disbanded, Blaine was struggling to find his place at McKinley. So as much as he hated being a cheerleader, Blaine needed something to do, so it became his "thing."
Blaine was put in the same stunt group as Brittany, so he had to hoist her up and make sure she didn't fall on her face. It was easier said than done. When Brittany came tumbling down, she took out the entire group with her every time.
It was frustrating because they couldn't hit the routine, and Sue wouldn't let them leave until it was perfect. Blaine had no background in cheerleading, so he was clueless as to what to do. She screamed at them and made them go through it again, even though it was a lost cause.
Instead of Brittany knocking down everyone when she came down, she only took out Blaine. Her foot connected with his head surprisingly hard, and he was knocked against the mat on the floor, his body limp and his eyes closed.
The first thing Blaine noticed was the voices. Everything sounded amplified, but it felt like he was underwater. The pressure in his head was constant and intense. Blaine forced himself to open his eyes to see what was going on.
He was on his back, staring up at the gym ceiling. Blaine moaned as his head throbbed and his vision swam. He felt sick to his stomach, but it didn't compare to the pain in his head.
"Wh-what happened?" he managed to say. Coming up with words was hard.
"You fell asleep on the mat," Brittany explained. Blaine was confused. He closed his eyes to stop the room from spinning. He heard Sue tweet her whistle, and the sound was ringing in his ears.
She came over to him, and Blaine blinked up at her, still too weak to move or get up.
"Anderson, if you throw up in my gym then you've seen the last of your days on the Cheerios," Sue told him. Blaine was feeling sicker and sicker by the minute. He just wanted to close his eyes and go back to sleep.
"Coach, he blacked out," a freshman girl said. Blaine was feeling like he would pass out a second time if no one did anything. Blaine moaned again, a little louder, and Brittany and the freshman bent down by him. Sue kicked the younger girl out of the way and tried to take a look at his head.
Blaine made the mistake of closing his eyes, and Sue freaked out on him. She yelled at him to stay awake and not throw up, even though he was failing at both of those. Blaine got sick on himself, and that made everything ten times worse. His vision was fuzzy, and he felt several hands on him, then he relaxed without any hesitation, and the world went black.
Kurt hated the nights where he had to cook dinner. He was tired, they had hardly any food, and Rachel wasn't even home. He was seriously debating just ordering in Chinese food when his phone rang. Sam Evans? Why is Sam calling me? Kurt figured something must have happened, so he answered.
"Hello?" he said, still trying to figure out why he called him.
"Kurt? Hey, dude, it's Sam," he said, his voice quiet and hushed, like he was trying to talk without anyone hearing him.
"Hi," Kurt said. The conversation was getting awkward pretty quickly. "Um, is everything alright?" Kurt hadn't talked to Blaine in a few weeks, and he didn't really care to, but he knew how close he was to Sam.
"We're fine, mostly…" Sam trailed off. "Blaine wanted me to call you. He got hurt at Cheerios practice and they took him to the hospital."
Kurt raised his eyebrows. He didn't know Blaine had become a cheerleader. Hm.
"Oh," Kurt said. Things were really awkward now. "Um, is he okay?"
"He got a really bad concussion," Sam explained. "They're gonna let him go home in a few hours though. He was really out of it, but he kept bugging me until I said I would call you. I hope it's okay…"
"Yeah, no, it's fine," Kurt assured him. His voice always went a little higher when he lied. He sat down on the couch, not sure where to go with the conversation. Blaine had cheated on him, but Kurt was still worried about how he was doing. "You can give him the phone, if he feels like talking. Is he awake and everything?"
"Yeah," Sam said. "Do you want to talk to Kurt?" Kurt heard Blaine mumble something, and then there was a noise.
"Blaine?" Kurt said, not sure if he had hung up or not.
"Kurt. Hey," Blaine said. His voice sounded weird, like he was congested or something.
"Hey. Sam said you got hurt at Cheerios."
"Uh huh," Blaine said in a funny tone. Kurt figured they must have given him drugs or something. "My head hurt and I made Sam call you. I miss you, Kurt."
Kurt felt guilty, even though he knew he hadn't done anything wrong. Blaine was hurt and in the hospital, and he was still blowing him off. Kurt still cared about him and how he was doing, but it just didn't feel right. He wanted things to go back to normal and not be weird.
"I miss you, too," he finally said back to Blaine. That was the truth. "Go get some rest, okay? You can call me again later."
"Okay," Blaine agreed. His voice sounded different, like he was just about to fall asleep. "Bye, Kurt."
"Bye."
Kurt talked to Sam for a minute, and then they hung up. Things weren't even close to being back to normal, but Kurt and Blaine both knew they would get there, eventually.
Author's Notes:
Poor Blainers I hate writing about him getting hurt. Season 4 was really rough for him and Kurt but they're engaged now so it doesn't matter!
I've never had a concussion so I tried to write this the best I could. The cheerleaders at my school are always getting them one way or another.
So yeah. I know it was short, but there wasn't much else to include. I'm out of school until Monday so I'll be filling some prompts!
