Ever since Kurt had joined the football team, the jocks never really bothered him anymore. Finn made sure of that, and when Puck joined the glee club, they really backed off.

But Karofsky and Azimio were different. They didn't care about shoving Kurt into the lockers when Puck and Finn were around. They still tossed him into the dumpsters and threw slushies at him. Kurt had bruises, and always had to have a change of clothes with him for the slushie attacks.

When Finn heard yelling as he left the locker room after football practice, he didn't think anything of it at first. But Puck was with him, and he stopped Finn, and pointed over to the side of the parking lot.

Karofsky and Azimio had Kurt cornered, and were yelling things in his face and trying to grab at him. Finn could see Kurt's face. He looked absolutely scared. Finn and Puck dropped their things and ran over to them

"Don't touch him!" Finn shouted, shoving Karofsky away from Kurt. He thought that would end it, but David fought back. He and Azimio knocked Finn and Puck to the side, and then grabbed Kurt. Finn tried to get up to stop them, but it was too late. They had Kurt and were going to throw him into the dumpster. Azimio slammed the smaller boy down, and he disappeared behind the grubby metal side.

The two bullies hurried off before Finn and Puck could do anything to them. It was the scream that came from the dumpster that alarmed them. Finn peered over the side to see what was wrong. It was only about half full, and Kurt was lying on his back, his arms covering his face.

"Kurt, what's wrong?" Finn asked, panicking. Kurt would never get so upset at the bullying. He had to be hurt. Finn was able to reach in far enough to grab his hand.

"L-leg," Kurt choked out. Finn looked down at his stepbrother's legs. His jeans were tight enough to see it. On his right leg, halfway up his shin, there was a bump that definitely shouldn't have been there. Finn's heart fell into his stomach, and he knew they had to get him help.

"Dude, look at his leg," Finn told Puck. "We gotta get him out of there." Puck looked at Kurt's leg, and he shook his head.

"Let's just wait for an ambulance," he argued. "We could just make it worse."

"He's not just going to lay around in a dumpster," Finn snapped. "Are you gonna help me or not?"

Puck sighed, and they both reached their arms in. It was going to be a struggle, but they had no other choice.

"Kurt, dude, listen to me," Finn said. "Me and Puck are gonna help you. It's probably going to hurt, but just hold onto me, okay?"

"No, don't touch it!" Kurt cried, and began to sob harder. Finn didn't want to hurt him, but they couldn't waste anymore time. Finn grabbed his stepbrother's body, and Puck took his legs. Kurt howled right in Finn's ear, but that didn't matter. They got him out of the dumpster and carefully set him on the ground. Finn still held onto him, wrapping his arms around his stepbrother protectively. He didn't know what else to do.

Puck started to call 911, and Finn did everything he could to help Kurt. He forced him to put his head on his shoulder so he couldn't look at his leg.

"I want Blaine," Kurt pleaded, struggling to catch his breath. Finn knew he wasn't very comforting, and it frustrated him. Blaine would be able to make him stop crying.

"We'll call Blaine," Finn promised. He didn't tell Kurt that Blaine was in Westerville and it would take him a few hours to get there.

Finn shifted his stepbrother in his arms, and Kurt dug his fingers into his shoulder. It hurt him, but Finn just tried to make Kurt the most comfortable.

"Puck called for help," Finn tried to reassure him. "It's gonna be okay, dude." Kurt moaned and shivered a little. Finn was going to kill Karofsky and Azimio. What did Kurt ever do to them? They could have broken Kurt's leg, all from being tossed into a stupid dumpster.

"Where's my dad?" Kurt asked. "I want my dad." He clung to Finn tighter and whimpered quietly.

"Your dad's coming," Finn told him, even though no one had let him know yet. "He'll come to the hospital with us. Do you want me to go in the ambulance with you?"

Kurt nodded and held onto him tighter. "Don't leave me, Finn." Kurt kept shaking his head, and Finn finally had to get him to stop.

"I'm not leaving, bro," he promised. "Okay? I'm gonna stay with you the whole time. Blaine and your dad will come soon, and it's gonna be okay. Just a few more minutes."

"I feel s-sick," Kurt moaned. He pressed his hand over his mouth, and Finn panicked.

"Try not to throw up," he told him. "They'll give you some medicine to make it better." Kurt broke down, in too much pain to control it. Finn rubbed his back helplessly. He wasn't good at comforting people. Kurt was in pain and crying and there wasn't anything he could do about it.

"The ambulance should be here by now," Puck spoke up, putting his phone in his pocket. "They said less than ten minutes."

"They need to hurry," Finn said, looking around the parking lot, as if it would magically appear. Kurt was getting worse and worse.

They began to finally hear sirens in the distance, and it pulled into the parking lot. Kurt was freaked out by the paramedics, and he started to cry hard, and eventually threw up. Finn fought to hold him while they cleaned him up, stuck an IV in him, and splinted his leg. Kurt was starting to hyperventilate, so they snapped a mask on him, too.

"Kurt, it's okay," Finn said, holding onto his non-IV hand. "We're right here. It's okay, dude." He hated seeing him like that. He just wanted him to be okay and for them to go home and everything be normal.

"Stay with me, Finn!" Kurt freaked out, latching onto his arm. "Don't leave, don't leave." Finn squeezed his hand to let him know that he wasn't going anywhere. They put Kurt in the ambulance, and Puck made Finn give him a hug.

"Take care of him, dude," he said. "I'll come to the hospital later. Call me." Finn nodded and stammered out a thanks to Puck for calling 911. He climbed into the ambulance next to his brother, and held his hand the whole way to the hospital.

They pulled Kurt's shoe off and cut away the lower part of his pants. Finn distracted him so he wouldn't get upset over his expensive clothes. His foot was slightly twisted outwards, the bump along his shin already deeply bruised.

The pain medicine they gave Kurt through the IV was starting to work, because soon he had relaxed enough to answer the paramedic's questions, and he didn't have a death grip on Finn's hand anymore.

"'s my dad coming?" Kurt asked again, his chin trembling. Finn assured Kurt that his dad and Blaine were going to come, and that seemed to satisfy him.

The paramedics put a blanket over Kurt when he started to shiver, and that helped him relax a lot more. Finn kept holding his hand, but it was nice that Kurt wasn't in so much pain anymore.

At the hospital, the paramedics took Kurt straight to the trauma department, Finn following quickly behind them. Kurt got scared when he couldn't see his brother, but Finn finally got reunited with him.

"Kurt, I'm not going anywhere," he promised him. "I'm gonna stay right here, don't worry. Let's call your dad. Do you want to talk to him?"

"Meeting… he's in a meeting," Kurt mumbled. Finn suddenly remembered. Kurt's dad couldn't come to the hospital. Kurt's dad was in Washington DC, over 500 miles away. Kurt's eyes watered up, but Finn didn't want him to cry anymore. They were both stressed out enough.

"Hey, don't cry," Finn told him. "They'll let him come home early. Let's give him a call, and then we'll see about Blaine coming up here. You still wanna see Blaine?"

Kurt nodded and sniffled. Finn called Kurt's dad, and even though he didn't answer, Finn left him a message. He didn't go into too much detail, he just said Kurt had gotten hurt, and to call him back. After that, he called Blaine. He explained what had gone on, but then Kurt took the phone from him. He started to get worked up again, but they hung up, and Kurt didn't cry.

"What'd Blaine say?" he asked him.

"He's coming," Kurt said. "He was really worried. Did I break my leg?"

The answer to that was obvious, but Finn didn't say so. "I don't know, dude. They're gonna x-ray it here pretty soon. I don't know where your nurse went."

The door opened, but it wasn't the same nurse as earlier. Finn's mom rushed in and hurried over to Kurt. Finn forgot she had been working that day, but he was thankful to have her there.

"Honey, what in the world happened?" she asked, looking from Kurt to Finn and back again. Kurt didn't answer, and instead just closed his eyes. Finn's mom took his other hand and started stroking his hair.

"That Karofsky guy was about to hurt him, so me and Puck tried to stop him, but then they threw Kurt into the dumpster. It's his leg," Finn explained. He didn't want to explain all the details when Kurt was listening.

"Oh, honey…" Carole fussed over Kurt and mothered him to death, and he didn't argue. A nurse and orthopedist came in to look at his leg, and Kurt hid in her arms. Finn figured he wasn't needed anymore, but he stuck around. The doctors looked at his leg and decided to take him down to get it x-rayed.

"Finn, honey, wait here," his mom told him. "We'll be right back, but we can't both go."

"Okay," he agreed. His mom gave him a kiss, and went back to Kurt. Finn just sat there, waiting for them to return. He texted Puck and updated him, and told him not to tell the rest of the glee club what had happened. They would find out soon enough.

When they brought Kurt back, it was obvious he had been crying. His cheeks were tear-stained, his eyes puffy. He wouldn't listen to the nurse that was talking to him.

"Kurt, we'll bring your x-rays in as soon as they're developed," the woman said. Kurt turned his head away from her, and Carole put her hand on his head. He seemed a lot more comfortable when the doctors weren't around.

"I want to go home," Kurt mumbled. "It hurts, Carole."

"I know, honey," she soothed. "They're going to fix it, though. It'll be okay, sweetheart."

Finn sighed heavily. It wasn't fair what Karofsky and Azimio were putting him through. If only they could see him, how much pain they had caused him. Kurt didn't deserve one bit of it.

Once the doctor brought in Kurt's x-rays, things moved pretty quickly. He had a fracture in his tibia, but it wasn't aligned right, so they needed to do surgery on it so it would heal properly.

Kurt's reaction to that news made the scene in the McKinley parking lot look like a picnic. He wouldn't stop crying and panicking, and eventually the nurse had to give him a shot of something in his IV that made him go all limp and sleepy.

"What are they gonna do to him?" Finn asked innocently. Kurt seemed truly terrified of the idea of surgery.

"They have to realign his bones so they heal right," she explained. Her voice was soft, and she tried to make Kurt comfortable. He was awake, but really out of it.

Carole had to sign a bunch of paperwork, and she finally got ahold of Kurt's dad. He promised to hurry back to Lima as fast as he could, but he wasn't going to be back in time for the surgery, Luckily, Blaine was almost there. The second he walked into the room, everything seemed to be made better.

"Blaine?" Kurt asked. He was still weird from all the drugs. Blaine went straight over to him and kissed him on the cheek.

"Hi, honey," Blaine said, cooing over him and giving him light little kisses and holding his hand. Finn was glad he was there to help Kurt feel better. He did such a good job with him. Finn knew he hadn't done anything to help, but Blaine made it all better. Kurt finally seemed content, and that was all that mattered.

When they took Kurt into surgery, he didn't even fight it. Blaine promised to be there when he woke up, and Finn just gave him a hug.

"Bye, Finn," he peeped, his voice high and shaky. Finn wasn't worried about him, but he knew how nervous Kurt was.

Finn, his mother, and Blaine were forced to sit in the waiting room. Blaine sat off by himself, staring down at the floor absently. Finn sat by his mom and told her the full story about what happened.

"He wouldn't stop crying, and me and Puck had to get him out of the dumpster. You could tell something was wrong with his leg by looking at it, so I tried to keep him from seeing it," Finn explained.

"You did good, honey," his mom assured him. "Think about if you and Puck hadn't have been there. You did everything right. The surgery will help his leg heal easier. Once Burt gets here and Kurt's done in the OR thing will get better. The doctors called the police about those bullies, and they're coming to hear you explain what happened. Talk to the police, and they'll take care of them."

Finn really, really didn't want to talk to the police. It made everything seem too real. But he had to do it if Karofsky and Azimio were going to get in trouble.

"I just want Kurt to be okay," Finn said. He hadn't realized he'd said it out loud.

"He's going to be just fine, honey," his mom assured him. "He always is."

Author's Notes:

I always wondered what could happen by being thrown into a dumpster, since it happened so much in season 1. Here's my take on it! The timing in this one doesn't really match up, since Blaine is at Dalton, Kurt is at McKinley, but Kurt's dad is in Washington. I just kind of mixed everything up, but I hope you like it!
