Kurt held his breath as the nurse walked out into the waiting room. He was silently begging for her not to call his name. He didn't want to leave the safe haven of the waiting room.
He'd been dreading his appointment for weeks. Everything he'd read online said a root canal was horribly painful, even with the anesthetic.
So he dragged Blaine along. If anyone could help keep him calm, it was Blaine.
"Kurt Hummel," the nurse called. Kurt sighed and stood up, not letting go of Blaine's hand.
"Come with me," he begged, squeezing his hand tighter. Blaine nodded and smiled at him.
"I'm coming," he promised. "Let's go."
"Good luck, buddy," Kurt's dad told him. "We'll be right here when you're finished."
Kurt nodded at his dad, and held Blaine's hand as they followed the nurse down the hall to the exam room.
"Your dentist will be here soon," the woman said to him sweetly. "Go ahead and lie back. Your friend can stay here with you."
Kurt hesitantly sat down in the chair, and pulled Blaine closer.
"Hey, I'm not going anywhere," Blaine assured him, scooting his chair closer to Kurt. "You need to relax. I'm here, your dad and Carole are here, and you're gonna be fine. You get to eat pudding and ice cream for a week, so that's a plus." Kurt smiled a little at that comment, but his nerves were still racing. The dentist opened the door suddenly, and he jumped in his seat.
"Hi, Kurt," he said kindly, and stuck out his hand. Kurt shook his hand and tried to avoid eye contact. This guy wasn't his friend.
Blaine sat with him while Kurt's dentist and a nurse got him all ready for his root canal. Kurt got freaked out by the anesthetic, and started to cry when the nurse poked at his gums with the syringe. Blaine did his best to calm him down, and Kurt finally relaxed a little bit once the medicine kicked in.
"Hey, You're doing good so far," Blaine assured him. "You won't even feel anything. Just relax until it's over. I'm right here."
Kurt had a tight grip on his hand, until finally he got tired and closed his eyes. Blaine knew he wasn't asleep, but just trying to forget what was going on.
The dentist was actually able to finish relatively quickly on Kurt since he wasn't tensed up the entire time.
"We're all finished, Mr. Hummel," the man said, clapping Kurt on the back. He winced, and Blaine helped him to sit up. Kurt's mouth was packed with gauze, so he couldn't exactly speak, but Blaine did his best to communicate with his boyfriend.
"Your dad's waiting right outside for you," Blaine told him. "Are you ready to go home?"
Kurt nodded slowly, gazing off into the distance. Blaine helped him up onto his feet and guided him slowly out to the waiting room. Carole fussed over him while Burt signed him out.
Kurt's fingers crept towards his mouth, trying to pick at the slightly bloody gauze. Blaine pulled his hand down and linked their fingers together.
"Don't try to touch it, sweetheart," Carole warned him. "I don't want it to hurt you. We'll get your pain medicine later, and that'll help it feel better."
"Ca' Blai'e stay?" Kurt lisped. He winced as he spoke, and finally gave up.
"Yes, honey, Blaine can stay with you for a little bit," Carole promised. "You need to rest, though. We'll see how you're feeling in a couple of hours."
Kurt's dad returned from the receptionist desk, and they were finally ready to leave. Blaine sat in the backseat of the car with Kurt, fully prepared to stay with him as long as he wanted, until he was one hundred percent back to normal.
Author's Notes:
I finally updated again, you guys! My break ended and things at school actually got crazy, but I have some free time this evening and wanted to give you guys something new to read! Speech & Debate season starts pretty soon, so my next three weekends are filled with tournaments, but I'm going to do my best to write in between the crazy moments. Also my birthday is on Thursday! My goal is to be able to update this story all week as a sort of celebration-type thing. I have some really awesome prompts on my list and I'm going to pick a special one to be my 100th chapter of this story, so if you have any to give me then send it my way. Only three days until Glee comes back and I'm 16!
