Blaine baked when he was stressed. It was that simple. Some people panicked, some people (like Kurt) were ate away their feelings, but Blaine would just go into the kitchen for hours at a time to release the tension building up inside of him.
Long days at school just made Blaine absolutely exhausted. He was currently at NYADA, but seriously debating about switching to NYU the next semester, after his dad convinced him to try medical school. So he was stressed with NYADA, the decisions he had to make, and of course, his and Kurt's wedding.
Kurt wasn't home yet, so Blaine decided to make something. They had refrigerated cookie dough, and double chocolate brownie mix. Blaine couldn't choose between the two, but he figured he would have time to make both.
He put on some show tunes on his iPhone and started with the cookies. Kurt didn't care for chocolate chip, but Blaine figured he could take him to his Vogue office to share.
He heard the front door open and slam shut, and Kurt finally came into the kitchen.
"What's going on?" he asked. "Are you making dinner?"
"No," Blaine answered casually. "Cookies. And brownies." Kurt frowned. He knew what it meant when Blaine got to baking.
"Long day?" Kurt asked him, suspicious. Blaine nodded and continued to arrange the dough on the baking pan. Kurt wrapped his arms around his fiancé's waist, and gave him a simple kiss on the neck. "Do you want to talk about it, or have me leave you alone while you de-stress?"
"I'll let you know when the brownies are done," Blaine told him. Kurt nodded and went back to the bedroom to leave him alone. He changed his clothes and watched TV on the bed, listening to Blaine bang around in the kitchen. He heard the oven beep, which meant something was done.
"Cookies are done," Blaine said. He sounded tired. Part of Kurt wanted to force him to just go to bed early and sleep it off, but Blaine was stubborn, and he would likely be in the kitchen for hours. "Do you want one?"
"No, thanks," Kurt told him. He didn't like chocolate chip, so Blaine just shrugged his shoulders and dug into them himself. Kurt left him alone once he stopped eating to get started on his brownies. He was frustrated that Blaine wouldn't talk about what was upsetting him, but Kurt knew him well enough to know that he would come around when he felt like it, when he was on the verge of breaking down.
So, Kurt went back and finished the movie he had been watching. He wanted to spend some time with his fiancé instead of alone in the bedroom, but there wasn't anything he could do.
When Blaine finally finished with his brownies, Kurt went in and ate one to make him feel good about his limited cooking skills. It was getting pretty late, and Kurt was ready to go to bed.
"Are you going to clean up the kitchen, or leave it for me to do tomorrow?" Kurt asked, half joking. Blaine did have a tendency to forget to clean up after he was finished cooking.
"I'll get it," he said, and yawned. He waved his hand at Kurt. "Go to bed. I'll be there in a minute." Kurt nodded and gave him another kiss on the cheek. He wasn't going to force Blaine to talk to him about whatever was bugging him, so he left it up in the air for Blaine to decide when he wanted to share. Kurt went back down the hall and got ready for bed.
Blaine took longer in the kitchen than he expected. Kurt hated sleeping alone, and he was growing impatient. Finally, Blaine stumbled in quietly. He must have thought Kurt was already asleep.
"Blaine?" he asked, sitting up. "Blaine, what's the matter?" Blaine wasn't crying, but he looked like he had been. And he had chocolate on the sides of his mouth.
"I'm okay," he said quickly before collapsing into bed. Kurt covered him up and scooted closer to him, but something still wasn't right. Blaine was breathing funny, and he was curled up in the fetal position. Blaine never slept like that.
"Honey, you're going to have to tell me eventually," Kurt sighed. "What's the matter?"
Blaine opened his mouth to answer, but he quickly cut himself off by pressing his hand over his mouth. He kicked the covers off of him and hurried into the bathroom. Kurt followed quickly on his heels, confused as to what had just happened.
Blaine made it into the bathroom just in time to get sick. Kurt was afraid of that. Whenever Blaine got to stress baking, he would usually eat whatever it was that he had made, but he had never gotten sick before.
"It's okay," Kurt soothed quickly, a little unsure what to do. It wasn't everyday your fiancé threw up out of the blue. Kurt finally left him to go get some water from the kitchen.
By the time he returned to the bathroom, Blaine was finished getting sick, and he leaned heavily on the side of the bathtub.
"Here, take a drink," Kurt coaxed, kneeling down to help him. Blaine took the bottle of water and drank it quickly. Kurt got a washcloth to help him clean up, but Blaine took it himself and got up.
"I feel better, I think," Blaine told him. He still didn't look too hot, but Kurt was glad he didn't feel sick anymore. "I think I ate too much."
"Honey, you can't just bake and eat away all your problems," Kurt told him. "Now will you please tell me what's bothering you so much?"
Blaine finished cleaning up his face, and the both of them went to get back into bed.
"Kurt, NYADA isn't for me," he blurted out. He had been afraid of telling him, but he couldn't take the stress of it anymore. "I just don't want to do it anymore."
"Do what?" Kurt asked. He laid on his side and draped his arm over Blaine's waist.
"I don't know. Performing was fun in glee club and the school musicals, but I'm just not sure that I want a career out of it," Blaine went on. "You're so good at it, and I know you'll be on Broadway with Rachel someday, but I just want a change."
Kurt was surprised, to say the least. But he loved Blaine, and decided he didn't want to go into show business wasn't going to hurt their relationship at all. Kurt was just glad Blaine had finally told him instead of continuing to hide his stress.
"We'll figure something out," Kurt promised him. "Try not to worry, babe. Let's talk about it tomorrow, though. You're probably worn out from all your baking. If you feel sick again, you need to tell me."
"Okay," Blaine promised.. He rested his head under Kurt's chin and closed his eyes, finally. It had been a long day, but at least now he knew Kurt was going to support him no matter what.
