Kurt always thought New Year's Eve felt weird. It was the last day of the year. No more days to try to achieve his New Year's resolution (that he had admittedly forgotten about since February), no more 2013.

But, looking back, the year had been pretty eventful. Kurt had gotten engaged… but then there was Finn. Kurt had tried not thinking about how awful it had been, but sometimes it just crept up on him at the most unexpected times…

But Kurt pushed it out of his mind. No matter how the year had gone, he was glad for it to be over. In the meantime, everyone was scrambling to get ready for Elliott's New Year's Eve party the next evening. Rachel and Santana were obsessed with getting the perfect outfit together, and Kurt and Blaine were busy trying to prepare dessert for fifty people.

"He better pay us or something," Blaine grumbled as he turned off the oven. "Putting just two people in charge of food is ridiculous."

"Come on, it's the least we could do," Kurt reminded him. "Elliott's done a lot for Pamela Lansbury."

Blaine rinsed off all of their baking supplies in the sink and grabbed a drink from the refrigerator. Kurt was still in shock that his fiancé had surprised him for Christmas. Blaine had said that he had to be with his family, since it was his last Christmas in high school, but then he completely surprised Kurt on Christmas Eve, and was able to stay through New Years until school started again.

"I'm gonna join Santana and Rachel with their movie," Kurt said, covering up all one hundred fifty cookies they had just baked. "Do you want to watch with us?" He slid his arms around his fiancé and hugged him close, trying to make him last until they would get to see each other again.

"I'm gonna go to bed," Blaine said. "I'd probably just fall asleep, anyways. I'm starting to get a headache, too."

Kurt pulled away from him and frowned. Blaine seemed just fine, but he would get nasty migraines from time to time.

"Are you okay?" Kurt asked. "If it's a migraine I have some stuff you can take for it."

Blaine shook his head and rubbed his eyes, already turning to go to bed. "It's not very bad."

"Okay," Kurt said softly. He wasn't sure if he should follow Blaine or just go watch the movie with Rachel and Santana. He decided to just let Blaine rest, and settled on the couch with his roommates to watch Bridesmaids.

By the time Kurt went to bed, Blaine was passed out in the middle of the bed, leaving no room for Kurt on either side. Kurt just sighed as he put his pajamas on. He tried not to wake his fiancé up as he fought for space on the edge of the bed, but Blaine stirred anyways.

"Kurt? It's cold in here. What time is it?" Blaine mumbled quickly. Kurt couldn't see how he was cold when he was hogging all of the blankets.

"It's a little after midnight," Kurt told him. "Scoot over."

Blaine obeyed, giving Kurt more room, but still snuggling close. Kurt draped his arm over Blaine and tried to sleep, even though sharing a bed with Blaine was never easy.

He lost track of how many times he woke up throughout the night. Blaine would wake him up by his coughing, or Kurt would wake up shivering because Blaine had taken all of the covers (again).

Finally, around four in the morning, Kurt had had it. He took his pillow and the comforter and was about to retreat to the living room, but Blaine stopped him just in time.

"Kurt, stay here," he moaned, and coughed into his pillow. "I'm cold, and my head still hurts."

Kurt knew he couldn't argue with a sick person. Even though it was probably just a cold and Blaine was over exaggerating, Kurt felt bad leaving him, so he reluctantly got back into bed.

"Go to sleep," he pleaded. "There's Nyquil in the medicine cabinet if you need some." Kurt felt Blaine slowly get up, and managed to sleep for the rest of the night, no interruptions.

In the morning, it was a different story. Blaine couldn't stop coughing, and he didn't even want to eat breakfast. Kurt babied him and tried to help him feel better in time for the party that night.

"Maybe we should just skip it so you can get some rest," Kurt suggested around noon. "You're in no shape to be out all night."

"I'b fide," Blaine insisted. His stuffy nose made him sound funny when he talked. "It's New Year's Ebe. I can't biss it."

Kurt wasn't so sure, though. He could tell Blaine was trying to cover up how bad he really felt, and when it came time to get ready for the party, Blaine was too miserable to even get up from the couch. His cold had steadily gotten worse throughout the day, and he wasn't even awake for the majority of the afternoon. Kurt couldn't leave him even if he wanted to, so he settled to spend the night taking care of Blaine.

"Kurt, come on," Rachel pleaded as she and Santana were about to leave. "Just come for a few hours."

"No, just go or you'll be late," Kurt insisted, waving her and Santana away. He was a little upset about missing it, but he would much rather be with Blaine at home. The two of them left, Rachel still annoyed that Kurt wouldn't give in and go with them.

Blaine didn't realize he had slept through the party until he woke up at 10:30. Kurt was still on the couch with him, watching the live show from Times Square.

"What time is it?" Blaine asked groggily, kicking his blanket off of him.

"Almost eleven," Kurt answered. "You were way too sick for that party, honey." Blaine's jaw dropped, almost in disbelief.

"Kurt, that's your band. You can't miss it, come on, you have to go. I'll be fine here by myself."

Kurt didn't budge. He knew he would have an awful time if Blaine weren't there with him, so there was no point.

"I'm not going," Kurt said firmly. "There's only an hour and a half until midnight. Do you want to stay awake? You can go get in bed if you don't want to."

Blaine shook his head and scooted up next to Kurt. "No, I want to watch the ball drop. Will you wake me up if I fall asleep again?"

"Yes," Kurt promised. "Just get some rest. You'll be miserable flying home on Friday if you don't start feeling better."

Kurt let Blaine get comfortable next to him, with his head resting on Kurt's shoulder. They watched pointless TV, and at 11:45 Kurt could tell Blaine was asleep. He felt awful waking him up, and knew Blaine would be mad at him if he didn't, but Kurt just let him sleep. Blaine would be going home soon, and Kurt wouldn't get to see him again until spring break, ten long weeks away.

When it was the final ten-second countdown before the new year, Kurt wrapped his arm around a still sleeping Blaine. He had begun to snore from his congestion, but Kurt didn't care. After everything that had gone on during the year, he was just glad to end it with the person he cared about the most. At the stroke of midnight, he kissed Blaine on the top of his head, and whispered a quiet "I love you" before turning off the TV and curling up next to his fiancé, loving every minute he got to spend with him.

Author's Notes:

Ahh I love these boys whenever they're together, even though it never seems to happen on the show anymore. This chapter took place during Christmas/New Year's Eve 2013 because the timing of the show is so screwed up now, and the only Christmas episode we got was the Previously Unaired Christmas. Did anyone else hate that episode? Or was it just me?
