It was laughable how red he was. Blaine had been sunburned before, but never like that.
"I was only outside for a few hours," he pouted, sitting down carefully on the couch. Kurt felt bad for him, but could barely contain the laugh that eventually escaped his lips.
"It looks like a tomato threw up on you," he commented. The sad part was that it was true. Every visible inch of Blaine's skin was burned a deep shade of red that was no doubt painful.
"I hate the lake," Blaine moaned, kicking off his flip-flops and trying to get comfortable.
"We're going home tomorrow," Kurt reminded him, accidentally clapping him on the shoulder before he realized how much it hurt him.
"Asshole," Blaine accused. "You did that on purpose!"
Kurt stood quickly, before he could make it any worse. He knew Blaine's mood could only get worse as the evening progressed.
"It was an accident, I swear," Kurt tried. "I'm sorry. Do you want some aloe? There's a new bottle in the fridge. That'll feel good on your skin, and I can make you something to eat. I think the rest of your family is still out on the water with Sydney, so it'll be awhile before they come back in."
Blaine nodded slowly, shifting as he tried to take pressure off the burns on his back.
"I'm hungry," he confessed. "You don't have to cook, though. My mom will make something once they come back."
Kurt kissed the top of his boyfriend's head, more cautious this time, as he walked into the small kitchen of the lake house. There weren't very many healthy options, but he could throw together a sandwich or something simple for Blaine.
"Go take a cool shower," Kurt called back to him. "Scrub the lake water off of you. Then you can eat and have some Tylenol and aloe. Go."
He heard Blaine groan as he slumped off back to the bathroom, and Kurt tried to put together a meal for the both of them. As nice as it was for the Andersons to invite him along for their weekend at the lake, Kurt wasn't the biggest fan of the outdoors. He stayed inside in the air conditioning as much as possible, but when he did have to go outside, he didn't go easy on the sunscreen.
He never expected Blaine to get so badly burned, though. His skin had always been darker than Kurt's, so Kurt didn't think it was possible for someone as naturally tan as him to burn.
But he did. And Blaine burned bad. Kurt had never seen anyone as red as he was. He knew firsthand how painful they could be, and Blaine undoubtedly would wake up with peeling skin and blisters all over. Kurt cringed at the thought of him going through that.
His boyfriend returned from his shower, wrapped in a towel with his damp hair hanging down.
"Feel better?" Kurt asked, bringing Blaine his plate as he crashed on the couch.
"No," he grumbled. "It hurts. Did you make food?"
"You have to sit up," Kurt told him. Blaine obeyed, and Kurt handed the plate to him. "I'll bring you a tank top to put on. The rest of your family will be coming in soon. Your mom will know what to do better than me."
"Don't leave, though," Blaine said, his mouth full of chips. Kurt brought Blaine a shirt and sat next to him on the couch while he finished his food, until his parents came back.
Blaine was able to milk it just enough so that his mom let him pick what movie they watched that night. Kurt fell victim to his grumpiness, though, but just until Blaine's mom loaded him up with Benadryl to get him through the night. After that it was smooth sailing, once he passed out on the couch in the middle of Iron Man. Even though Kurt knew it was a hard lesson for Blaine to learn, he also knew he would never manage to forget sunscreen ever again.
Author's Notes:
Here's a cute little something I came up with after getting the worst sunburn of my life. Ugh, I feel Blaine's pain.
Side note: Sorry for being gone for like three weeks! I was out of town and have spent the majority of my time recently writing a new story. I just put the first chapter up if anyone if interested. The link is on my tumblr or you could just go to my profile if that's easier for you. But at least you'll be able to see what I've been up to these last few weeks! Ten chapters in fourteen days isn't easy for anyone.
I leave now to work on my next project: A daddies!klaine oneshot! This story is still a top priority, though, so I promise not to keep you waiting as long for updates!
