Chapter 4
Sasuke POV
"Hey old man where are we going?" a very upset Naruto said, I was angry with him too but I figured that Naruto was doing enough yelling for both of us so I just glared at him.
"We're going to your new home Naruto." Lord third said calmly "Originally I planned on telling you about your parentage when you turned 16. Now that you know who your mother is I've decided to give you part of your inheritance".
The Hokage finished just as we neared a rather large house "Due to recent...events."
"My clan's massacre." I said bluntly.
Lord Third seemed put off but continued "Err...yes because of that I have decided the two of you will live in Naruto's family home."
"That's my home?" Naruto said in wonder. 'Holy crap that thing gigantic' I thought.
Lord Third looked down at me and Naruto's astonishment with a smile "You see Naruto the Uzumaki was nearly wiped out during the third great ninja war. Your parents planned on repopulating the clan. Your father wanted around 20 kids but your mother told him 3 at the most but cut it down to 2 when she was six months pregnant with you." The Hokage chuckled a bit before noticing our blank stares "Right you're too young to understand that." he said clearing his throat.
"On the dining room table you'll find a stack of letters from your mother Kushina for both of you. Before I leave you to explore your new house I should also tell you that I've taken the more powerful Jutsu scrolls away for safety reasons till you're older."
With that the old man as Naruto liked to call him started walking away. Naruto glanced at me before walking slowly up to the house with me close behind him. After what happened neither of us seemed to want to be alone and I was alright with that just as long as he didn't get clingy.
The inside of the home was massive at least compared to our old home. I knew that some of the merchant clans had far bigger houses but this was easily double what we used to have. Father was big on necessity only. The kitchen wasn't far from the front door with the dining room on the right.
As promised there was indeed a number of letters sitting on the table. But naruto and I decided to finish exploring the house first. If you took another right there was a living room with a few couches around the edges and a coffee table in the center. Going left from the living room there was a hallway that had two rooms on the left one was a study with a desk and a few bookshelves in it.
The other look more like a personal library. Naruto didn't spend much time in here and what little he did was spent in one of the four arm chairs. According to him they were really really soft. I took the time to read a few titles of the books. There were simple stories like the prince and the Pauper and goldilocks and the three bears. And then there were stuff that seemed more suited to a ninja like 'properties of chakra' and 'elemental manipulation for beginners'.
I would have liked to stay in there for a while longer but it took barely a minute before Naruto want to move on. We found a bathroom slightly farther down the hall along with a staircase just past it but ignored it in favor of the last door on the ground level. It opened up into a game room filled with a few card tables and a pool table.
There were shelves on the farsighted that held a good number of games, about as many as we had back home. We also found another door that we thought was a closet but it was actually the back door. We had a nice sized backyard that looked like it could double as a training ground.
Next we went up stairs and found a couple of empty rooms along with another study that was filled with used chalkboards. A few had the word seal written on them but neither me or Naruto could make sense of them. There was another bathroom next to the study.
At the end of the hall we found the master bedroom. It was big and had it own bathroom a master bed and two night stands plus a picture of a red haired woman sitting on a dresser. "Naruto isn't that your mom?"
Naruto nodded taking the photo in his hands "The old man showed me a picture of her when you were in the bathroom back at the tower."
"Wanna go read those letters now?" I asked, Naruto nodded and led the way out of the room. It was bugging me how quiet Naruto was being. But one thing was for sure right now with the village treating me like a prince, Naruto like a monster, and the Hokage keeping secrets the only thing we could trust was each other.
On the table we found a large number of letters written to Naruto and surprisingly to myself and Itachi.
(AN: sorry you might hate me for this but I'll be skipping them reading the letters for now.)
(With the Hokage)
I felt bad leaving those two kids alone so soon after they had gone through such an immense disaster, but I felt I thought it was best that they had some alone time. It was clear that they no longer held any real faith in myself, no faith wasn't the wrong word. It was their idolized view of me that was gone. In Sasuke's eyes at least I was now just another adult not the village leader he had known me to be.
I hadn't gone more than a few feet from the door when an ANBU appeared next me. "Lord Hokage." He said with a bow "There is a matter that requires your immediate attention."
I sighed and began walking back towards the tower "What has happened?"
"A man and his wife arrived at the tower a short while ago claiming to be the brother of Kushina Uzumaki." He replied causing me pause mid step.
"What are they doing now?"
"Waiting patiently back at the tower."
I started walking again "Then lets not keep him waiting."
I wasn't sure what to make of the pair in front of me. The woman had blue hair put up in a bun and a flower set in her hair. She was also about six or seven months pregnant.
The man had red hair with a section pulled over his right eye. But his eyes themselves were unlike anything I'd ever seen. They were purple with rings spreading out from the pupil.
"Let's take this from the top." I said "Your names are?"
"Nagato." The man said "And this is my wife Konan"
"And you're Kushina Uzumaki's brother?"
"Yes."
"When was the last time you saw her?"
"It was back during the second shinobi war." he began "The Hidden Whirlpool had just received word that Hidden stone, silver, and sky had sent a massive invasion force. To many of our shinobi were out on assignment and we simply didn't have enough strength to fend them off. So my Father the Uzukage made the decision to evacuate the village." I nodded this matched the information Jiraiya had collected.
"The villagers got out easily enough but that wasn't really a surprise. We knew from the start that they wanted the Uzumaki clan dead, not our village. The youth were gathered up and split into three group each protected by 2 squads of our best Jonin. Each group was sent one of our three allies the hidden waterfall, hidden grass, and the hidden leaf. I was placed in the one heading to the hidden grass. Kushina was part of the group heading to the hidden leaf and our other sister was supposed to go to the hidden waterfall."
I nodded again this matched what Kushina had told us when a patrol found her convoy under attack from a group of Hidden stone Jonin. The patrol was able to drive the the hidden stone off but the damage had been done, Kushina and a crippled Jonin were the only survivors. "And what happened after that?"
"Well I was born blind to just before we left my father had our best medics transplant his eyes giving me his dojutsu. After that we set out and got about halfway to the hidden grass when the the Silver shinobi caught up to us. Things went south fast and one of the jonin told us to run so I did. What happened after that is a bit of a blur but as far as I know I was the only one to make it out. I spent the next few years living on the streets in the land of rain until I met Konan and Yahiko shortly after that we met master Jiraiya."
In the back of my mind I could vaguely remember a report about Jiraiya staying in the Hidden Rain to train a trio of Orphans around that time. It would take some digging but I should be able to verify their story.
"Master Jiraiya trained us and when he left we tried to make his dream a reality. So we started a group called the Akatsuki to provide protection for those who couldn't afford it. And for a time things were going great, our numbers kept growing and then about a year ago Hanzo contacted us. Said he wanted to explore having a similar group formed as sort of police force in the land of rain. It turned out to be a set up. Yahiko and about half a dozen others died in the raid."
"I'm very sorry."
Nagato nodded and swallowed thickly "Everyone in our group was furious and angry but one of our newer members Ginji demanded blood. He started taking other members on runs against the Hidden rain. Successful runs which didn't make sense since Ginji was never known to be very bright. Within a few weeks it reached the point where we either had to join them or leave the group so we did. A few months later Konan and I got married in the land of hot water and then we heard a rumor about an Uzumaki by the name of Kushina living in the hidden leaf so we came here."
I sighed and rubbed my eyes, the timing of their arrival seemed far to coincidental but I could not out right refute it either. If they were being honest then that opened up several possibilities. "It'll take some time for me to verify your story." I said calmly "I'll also need to run a blood test to verify you are in fact who you say you are. If everything checks out then I'll be more than happy to lend you what help I can."
"Very well." Nagato said in reluctant acceptance.
(AN: sorry you might hate me for this but I'll be skipping them reading the letters for now. Also I'll be doing one or two more chapters with Naruto and Sasuke as kids before I jump to the academy graduation. For me that's where the story really starts.)
