Chapter 4

(Ikuto's pov)

After 3 hours, I finally made it back to Amu's room and found that Nagi, Rima and Ami were there. Ami came running at me with her arms out.

"When did you all get here? I haven't even been able to give Amu the good news yet" I said I gave Ami a hug. "Let's go tell her together Ami" I said as I took her hand and led to across the room.

"Amu, I know that you won't be able to read it, but I am going to put a folder on your lap. I want you to hold it while I explain to you what's in it" I said then sat on the end of her bed.

"The paperwork that was at the desk from your parent's lawyer" I began then I explained the full story to Amu.

She started crying when I told her that I officially adopted Ami and her last name was now and for at least the next 8 years is Tsukuyomi. "I don't want to seem ungrateful Ikuto, but what did they do to me?" Amu asked with her head down. "I am very happy Ami will be taken care though. I love you Ami"

"Well" I started to tell her by picking her head up, "I became your guardian. This means that for the next 3 months, I will provide you with everything that you need and after that, you can choose what you want to do. You can choose to stay with me and become my bride when you are ready, but I will not become your father Amu, I'm sorry. But with the way I love you, I could not accept their offer to adopt you" I told her then got off the end of the bed and kissed her. "You should know there are no fatherly feelings anywhere from me to you" I whispered in her ear.

Ami started giggling, "PapaNeko! You kissed my sister. Does that mean that you are going to get married now?" she asked innocently with her cheeks red.

"Yes, Ami we will one day" I answered and looked at a pink Amu on the bed. "You two are definitely sisters, and I love you both."

"One more thing, do you know anyone named Daisuke?" I asked her. "Yes, he's my cousin, why?" she responded. He gave me this note.

It says:

Amu,

Please ignore what Oba Midori tells you about the family. We love you and Ami. I don't want her to ruin anything for us. You are family, come over anytime you or your sisters wants too. BTW, congratulations Ami Tsukuyomi. He is a good guy, love your new papa.

Love your cousin,

Daisuke.

"Okay, if you are quite done, I hoping to get some time with Amu" Rima said from behind me.

I picked grabbed Ami's hand and asked her she was hungry and wanted to go for a walk, she said yes and we both left Amu's room leave Nagi and Rima inside.

(Amu's pov)

"Hi Rima, hi Nagi" I told them when I heard the door close. "Can you believe that Ikuto adopted Ami? She'll be safe from now on"

"Yes, she will be, but I wanted to talk about you Amu" Nagi said. I heard his voice coming closer. "Are you holding up okay?" I felt his arms come around my shoulders and I started crying.

"Nagi, I feel so helpless. I thought I saved her, but all I did was make everything worse! Our parents hate us now, Ikuto was somehow roped into adopting my little sister and now I have no way to work. I'm blind! With who knows what the scarring looks like? I am glad Ikuto took her, I would never be able to care for my baby sister ever again" I told Nagi hiding my face in my hands leaning against his chest.

"Amu, you are the perfect big sister" he said rubbing my back.

I heard Rima call my name, "Amu, you are not alone. You are beautiful no matter what your face looks like and finally Ami and Ikuto love you for you. Just like the rest of us. So, stop thinking you made things worse, it would have been worse if you died leaving Ami on her own with parents like that or if neither one of you made it out. I almost lost my sister, Amu. You're my sister which is why it's okay for Nagi to hold you like that" she said with a pout in her voice at the end of her speech.

I sat up, and wiped off my face, then started asking questions of they were doing and before we knew it 2 hours had passed by the time Ikuto and Ami returned.

Nagi, Rima and Ami went home, and I went to sleep.

Over the next three days Tadase, Yaya, Kukai and Utau all visited me. They each had their own way exclamations of the way I was and asked if they could help. I told them the way they could was to be a friend to Ami and help keep her spirits up.

"Ikuto, shouldn't Ami resume school?" I know that her name is different, but she should continue it. Don't you think?" I asked Ikuto

"Yep, I just bought her all new clothes and school uniforms. She starts tomorrow. She also has a room set up at Nagi and Rima's house until you're out of here. Then we will all head over to my house. What do you think?" he asked me. "Sure, she is gonna be scared but I know she'll be okay" I told him

"Amu, they told me today they could take off your bandages now, do you mind if I am in the room when they do?" he asked me quietly.

"I – um – I want you here but please keep your promise okay?" I replied nervously. Ikuto responded by kissing me and telling me that he doesn't care about anything else. To him, I was the most beautiful person he ever saw scars and all.

***Two hours later***

(Ikuto's pov)

I saw the nurses come in with the doctor ready to remove her bandages. I knew that no matter what I saw, I could not react in a bad way or I lose Amu forever.

Slowly the doctors cut away what could be cut off. Then they started wetting the bandages to make them easier separate from the staples. At first the bandages were white and normal in color, but they started turning yellow.

The more they took off the more yellow the bandages were. I heard Amu whimper as they accidently pulled on a staple and the doctor apologized wetting the bandage some more. It took almost 30 minutes pull off all the gauze around her eyes and head.

The doctor said that her stitches and staples looked like they were healing properly. "Young man, will you be the one taking care of her when we release her?" he asked me.

"Yes, I will be her primary care provider for as long as she'll have me. May I see her please?" I the doctor.

"Yes, come here, I wanted to show you how to care for her first. These staples along her forehead will be out by the time she leaves, but you will need to know how to help her but not enable her" he explained me. For the next 20 minutes he explained what to expect and how to care for her wounds, ankle included.

"Amu?" I called. She had her back to me refusing to face me. She was really afraid that I would hate her. I sighed and sat on the side of the bed. "Amu Koibito look at me, you know that I love you and I will always love you. Please let me see you?" I asked her and she slowly turned over with her eyes closed and tears falling down her face. It broke my heart see her cry.

When she was fully facing me, I looked at her forehead. There were staples and stitches patterned across. It looked like a little road going from one side of her head to the other. There wasn't, however, any burn marks on her. The beam hit her yes, but not the part that was burning.

"Amu don't be scared of me, I want you to that you are beautiful and I am going to prove it to you" I told her, then I leaned down and kissed each of her staples and stitches. Then I kissed her eye lids. "Please open your eyes Koibito" I whispered to her.

Still crying, she slowly opened her eyes, I saw honey colored eyes staring up at me, but I knew that she couldn't see me. The doctor was right, her pupils were still white the surgery did not work after all.

"You may not be able to see Koibito, but you still have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen and they fit you since I don't know anyone else is as beautiful as you are" I told then I kissed her while giving her a hug.
