We call her the Queen
My Nana says we should not go outside when the queen is on her rounds, she is a vampire she might be hungry and drink my blood. But I am not stupid my teacher told me of the ruling that under no condition can a vampire drink blood of any human, if it is not collected. Yes she the queen she was the one who made the rule so she might break it . Who will fight her.
The children call queen cruel but I have never seen her be cruel. Neither had my big sisters Marie and Candace. Marie works in the genetic laboratory bringing dead species alive. She has met the queen many times. According to her the queen is fascinated by the genetics and always questions regarding each step and often providing her inputs. While Candace works in the tech lab always coding and refining her codes. She rarely comes home often sleeping in the office. I miss her so much. She is designing drones that go in the wastelands. She also helped in making Internet work again. I have a brother too but he never lived with us , no one tells me why. My sisters have met him and I have seen him from far. My Dada is also never around. He was a scientist but he left before i was born.
My house is like every other house in the bubble, three rooms with one toilet in each house. We don't have beds, the ground has been raised in each room on which we sleep. There are almirahs carved in the wall where we keep our belongings , not many though. Our books are stored in the phone we use, and can download any book we might need with internet. I love reading.
We all eat in the community kitchens and clean our dishes their only. Everyone has fixed timing for the month when we get food. no one is allowed to eat separately. Only if you are in the hospital , you given food to eat alone. There is no limit on how much we can eat but who wants to eat the mushroom soup everyday. On rare days we all are given flavored rice which is really tasty. Crops don't survive on the other continents and animals are very less too. We rarely get milk here. I love the taste of milk. My mum works in the kitchens and is mostly there so nana helps me at home.
Our bubble has three fifty homes and little courtyards filled with trees and plants and flowers which cover everything in the bubble. Then there is the school building which has big playground where we pray and eat.
The war has damaged our planet, my teacher taught one day. Many continents outside the big glass dome are inhabitable as they are nuclear waste lands. No human has gone there for two hundred years and it is still not safe. Our continent is covered with a big glass dome and under it we have small bubbles like mine. Where there is no bubble there are trees of all kinds but mostly peepal tree which only emits oxygen. The teacher says the trees are reducing the harmful air in the big bubble and one day we wont need smaller bubbles. She even showed us the satellite images. My sister had helped in making the satellite. I was very proud that day. I miss the school, we have been given a week off as an earthquake had damaged the building and it needed repairs. We are not allowed to go till it is properly fixed.
Each of the houses are covered with trees known as Banyan tree whose roots are tied over each other making a big canopy over them and above the trees there are solar panels which receive the solar radiation and bring us electricity. After the war we had run out of fuels with only solar energy remaining usable. We have electric trains though which carry workers to labs and plantations where we grow crops. The female werewolf lives on the plantation bubble, she helps the queen grow plants and fruits and spices in the greenhouses. Marie had actually tasted strawberries and when she described them I wanted one too. It was not allowed though.
I hate the clothes we wear, they are scratchy as they are made up of plastics except for some places where they are lined with leather.. We have one robe for each person and as we grow they are shared, no crops so no way to make new clothes. Even queen wears the same black shirt and trousers all the time. The teacher showed us a movie once in which the queens and princes wore big poofy soft gowns. I wanted to ask the queen why didn't she wear gown. Not that a gown would make her a queen and she would look ridiculous wearing the gown while riding the other brown werewolf. Lily said they are married, I don't believe her she is making it up definitely.
Nana had scolded me for running fast today. Oxygen levels are not high so we cannot not to play much as it would make us sick. I had seen Merle, my best friend getting sick once when she ran too fast. She was in the hospital for weeks. And she hated it. I had also gone to hospital regularly for my injections. I don't like the injections, they hurt but they are necessary we are too weak . One day when I am grown up I would have to go to hospitals for blood collection. I am scared of those days.
Nana was my age when queen build this bubble shifting us away from the other one. Everyone was sure they would be massacred but the the queen decreed compulsory blood collection and ruled that vampires would never harm humans. No one trusted the queen then but she had been working so hard my Nana loves the queen. Without her we would not be still alive.
I saw her yesterday checking the repairs of the school. Everyone was scared, they didn't want the Queen to be unhappy. While the inspection, Merle's younger sister, Lillian scraped her knees and blood started pouring. Everyone was sure Queen would kill her.
She asked Merle's mom Anna for Lillian. Queen then cleaned Lillian's wounds and after bandaging the her kissed her forehead and handed her back. Everyone was relieved and they all returned to their work. No I don't believe the Queen is bad or cruel. My mum hates her, a lot of the people do. I don't understand it Yet.
My teacher had promised to teach us more about the Queen as the school reopens but she told us the name of the Queen " Isabella Cullen".
