DayZ: survive or die!
Chapter 1: beginning of the end.
It was a hot sunny July day morning in the city of los Angeles, LAPD detective Lindsey 'Ricco' Riccorelli was caught up in the downtown traffic with his wife Sarah, he looked around at the traffic with an angered expression on his face," the one thing I hate about this god damn city is the traffic, come on move your ass." He shouted out of the window; his wife chuckled to herself. "did I say something funny babe." Ricco said. "no baby just think you need to relax a bit, your like this every time we get stuck in traffic, we live in LA what do you expect, plus we both have the day off, the sun is shining and we aren't in a rush so lets chill and have a nice day. Ok. "she replied.
He looked at her and smiled "ok baby anything for you. "he said as he placed his hand on hers, he reached forward and turned the radio on, as they sat there listening to the radio he noticed a commotion a few cars ahead, then he noticed people running passed his car in the opposite direction. "what the hell is going on." He said as he switched the car engine off. "wait here a sec baby I'm going to check out what all the fuss is about, might have something to do with the hold up of all this traffic." He said.
"babe its meant to be your day off you can't be super cop all the time, let someone else deal with it." Sarah replied.
"I will be straight back, just want to see what is going on." He said.
Ricco unplugged his seatbelt and opened the car door, he slowly got out before closing the door behind him, he made his way down between the parked cars, moving past all the on lookers, in front he could see a car up on the curb and smashed into a lamp post, now he knew what was holding up the traffic, he could see the driver who didn't seem to be moving, and a man was at the drivers door leaning in the window checking on, as he got closer the driver suddenly woke up, grabbed the man helping him by the head and began to bite him on the neck, the man let out a horrific scream and fell backward to the ground, he layed there for a few seconds motionless then he being to convulse, his eyes turned a red glazed over colour then he quickly stood up and being grabbing onlookers and biting them, which in turn caused them to do the same, people were running in all directions to get away. Ricco stood there looking on when suddenly one of the people who had been bitten looked at him, its glazed red eyes starring at him, blood dripping from its mouth it let out a roar and being to charge at Ricco. As it got close enough to grab Ricco, he pulled out his side arm and fired, hitting the man straight in the chest with two shots knocking the man backward and to the ground, Ricco gun still drawn and aimed he slowly moved forward, as he got closer to the body it twitched, and the man jumped back to his feet and ran again at Ricco, Ricco kicked the man sending him crashing into a parked car before firing again this time the shot hit the man in the head putting him down at last. But that was just the start the shots seemed to have alerted more infected onlookers who made a B line toward Ricco, he opened up fire as he ran back toward his car, he opened the door and dove in, his wife now panicking said "what's going on, what is wrong with them people they look sick, why are they attacking everyone."
"I don't know but I know we need to get the hell out of here quick." He replied as he turned on the engine and slammed it into reverse, he hit the gas and the car sped backwards, he quickly turned the wheel spinning the car around, he slipped it into drive and floored it weaving in and out of traffic, as the drove he noticed it was happening all over town, there were hundreds off them attacking people and turning them into mindless killers.
"babe call will see if he knows what's happening." He said
He was talking about his best friend Sgt William Rodgers, before he was a detective Ricco was a member of a spec ops unit in the military called steel wedge.
As the call connected Sarah put it on loudspeaker "Will what the hell's going on pal, shit has hit the fan out here man, people are killing each other and turning into mindless, things man." Ricco said.
" its some sort of virus, it started a few days ago in a city called cherno, we have been tracking it but its spreading extremely fast and the white coats cant figure out how to slow it down, where the hell are you guys now." Will said.
"were downtown." Ricco replied.
"you need to get out of the city as soon as you can and get somewhere remote." Said will.
"I would brother but were stuck, traffic is jammed, and the city is becoming over run." Ricco replied.
"can you get to the channel 5 building, if you can get to the roof, I have a chopper 10 minutes out, get to the roof and ill get you out." Will said.
"thank you, brother I owe, you one." Ricco said.
"thank me later LT just get to that roof and watch your back." Will said.
"will do, Ricco out." He replied. "hold on baby I'm going to get us out of here I promise." He told his wife as he sped toward the channel 5 building.
As they pulled up outside the channel 5 building Ricco slammed the breaks on and they jumped out of the car. "stay behind me baby and stay close." He said, he took out his gun and they made their way into the building , they walked over to the elevator and pressed the button, but after a min or two nothing happened, " damn power must be out, come on we will have too take the stairs." He said.
They made their way up the flights of stairs, when they reached the top floor and the door to the roof it was padlocked, "stand back." He said before shooting the lock off the door. Suddenly they heard an eerily loud scream from below, he looked down over the rails to the stair case below, what he saw shocked him to the core, coming up the stairs was a horde of infected, he kicked open the door to the roof, " go baby go." Said Ricco.
They ran out to the roof, Ricco closed the door and slid a pipe the door to secure it, they stood on the roof looking around but there was no sign of the chopper. Suddenly Sarah jumped as the door moved and made a loud bang as the infected on the other side began to hammer at the door trying franticly to get through. Ricco changed the clip in his gun and aimed toward the door as his wife held onto him tight.
Suddenly the door flew open and the infected swarmed the roof top, Ricco opened fire taking down as many as he could until his gun was empty but there was too many, he dropped his gun, grabbed his wife close, " I'm sorry baby, don't be scared it will be over soon. I love you." He said as he kissed her on the head, as the infected got closer to them, shots rang out and the infected began to drop, as he looked up above them there was the chopper, and hanging out of the side firing at the infected was his former team mate and friend Steve parsons, " LT catch." Parsons screamed as he tossed Ricco an M4A1 assault rifle, Ricco caught it and spun round and opened fire, hitting infected one after another in the head, but as the dropped more kept coming, the chopper set down behind them and parsons jumped off and began to fire, " get on the chopper." Ricco shouted to his wife as he moved backwards toward the chopper all the time still firing at the infected.
Sarah climbed into the chopper followed by Ricco and parsons, "get us out of here now. "parsons screamed to the pilot; the chopper took off as they looked down at what was once Los Angeles now a burning wasteland full of infected.
"good to see you Steve, where's will." Ricco said
"great to see you to LT its been a minute, he's at camp Pinehurst, where taking you there now, its bad Ricco its really bad, its everywhere." Said parsons.
"damn it." Ricco said as he sat back and held his wife tight.
12 hours later: camp Pinehurst.
The chopper set down outside what looked like a massive compound or bunker, Ricco jumped off and helped his wife down, he looked over to the guards that had the area secured." Soldier take to my wife to medical have her checked out." Ricco said.
"yes sir." The soldier said.
"go with them baby I'm going to see will and find out what's happening, I come find you when I'm done." Ricco said.
"ok babe, don't be long." She said as she followed the soldier.
"come on LT she will be safe we have this place locked down, lets go see the Sgt." Parsons said. They made there way into the bunker and stepped onto the freight elevator, parsons pressed the button and the elevator moved downward deep beneath the facility to the HQ command centre.
The stepped off the elevator and walked over to the briefing table where Rodgers and the other members of steel wedge were sat, as they approached the soldiers saluted Ricco. "at ease soldiers, hey Sarge what's going on, LA was a shit show." Ricco said.
"glad you made it out ok Ricco, take a seat, what we know so far is that 3 days ago a city near Russia called cherno had a meltdown in one of their labs, and unknown virus was released. Intelligence says that within 10 hours 90 % of the country had been infected, and it quickly spread across the globe, all we know is once infected the subjects turn into mindless zombie like beings who then only have one objective kill and turn any living being left alive, this is the beginning of the end men, all we can do now is find and protect any remaining survivors. How about you Ricco are you in." Rodgers said
"you bet I'm in let's send these things back to hell." Ricco replied.
