Chapter 36
Sitting at the local library with a book is always relaxing. That could either be from Blanc rubbing off on me, or just my personality. I think they both coincide with each other at this point.
It's been about two weeks since mine and Nepgear's big moment. Ever since then I've been having a little bit more fun with the school day.
The others also seem to enjoy the reborn me. And now I can officially say I enjoy their company to the fullest. As much as I hate to admit it, even Neptune is growing on me now.
And all it took for this to happen was me nearly losing some friends over a complete mistake. It's also worth mentioning that both Nepgear has forgiven Uni and the both of them are friends again.
Other than those things and a few conversations here and there with Martin, nothing has come up in my life. For once things are quiet enough to enjoy the little things. Take the book I'm reading for example.
"Hey!" And like that… the peace has to end.
"Ah!" Oh wait, it's only Ram, false alarm.
"Could you please keep it down Ram? We're in a library after all."
Ram smiles at me before running back to Blanc who is standing about a couple yards to my left. Peaking out of the corner of my eye I can see Blanc scolding Ram a little before turning back my way.
Knowing that this is the end of my peace, I close my book and put it back on the return rack next to me. Standing up, I walk towards my favorite trio of sisters.
"Afternoon Blanc, Rom, and Ram, good to see you all."
"Good… to see… you too." Rom is the first to speak back to me. As usual her voice is quiet and she speaks slowly because of how shy she is.
"Afternoon Jack… I'm going to go read now. Goodbye." As soon as I met up with her she leaves me? That's Blanc for you I guess.
Blanc leaves our presence and goes into the infinite aisles of books. I think by now she's memorized where every book in this library is. Even though it's only mid October, I wouldn't put it past her.
That just leaves me and the twin sisters who are much younger than me just standing around. I don't want to get back to the book anymore, my interest left me. I suppose that means one of two things.
One, I leave the library and go straight home. Or two, see what Rom and Ram are up to. I would talk to Blanc but I wouldn't want to disturb her reading.
I did that once, and let me tell everyone who might… it's not pretty.
The walk home isn't that bad, but I don't think I've gotten enough time in the time I've known them to truly hang out with these two. Is it weird for a boy my age to be hanging out with children?
The answer is yes, but I'm also not normal like most would be. Besides, they're my friends, it's not weird if they're my friends.
"So what do you two do while Blanc reads?"
Rom goes up to answer but Ram gets to it first.
"She's usually here for three hours, so we read too."
"Mmh"
Well that sounds a little interesting. They must love Blanc a lot if they're willing to stay here for three hours when they could be doing something else. Maybe I should stick around so they don't get bored to death.
Knowing Ram that would be the case, Rom might actually be ok with this. She is the smarter of the two after all.
"Maybe… you could… read to me?"
"Me too!"
It's better than walking home right now. What have I got to lose?
"Ok, I'll read to you two. It'll be fun." I smile to reassure them, hopefully anybody seeing it won't think it's too weird. If that happens then I could just say that they're my sisters.
"So what should I read?"
"Here!" Ram being overly loud again hands me a book in no time at all. It's almost as if they defy the laws of physics when they move.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is the book that she selected. It was a good book in my childhood so I don't see why it won't be for them. I'm a bit concerned that Rom didn't get a say though, all she did was stand around and points her head down.
Ram points her finger to a spot on the wall. I suppose that's where she wants to be read to. Again, I have no objections to what she says, and neither does Rom.
Going over to the area, I sit along the wall as I would do normally. Afterwards, Ram sits at my left, and Rom sits at my right. Both of them pull themselves close in to be as close to me as possible.
"Ok, 'In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.'"
A little bit of time passes while I'm reading to the twins. Once I finished the last page of the book, I look to my sides to see two sleeping people. As much as it may sound weird, they are pretty adorable when they sleep.
I know it's weird that a person my age is saying that, but it just shows that I have a heart in my chest. Just looking at them makes my heart warm up a bit.
Suddenly a cold chill runs down my spine. I know that someone with a lot of rage in their heart.
Blanc walks up calmly like she usually does when we see each other. Deep inside I know there is a spirit of wrath and furry that would take a feat of greatness to quell.
"Jack… I'm about to leave. Could I have my sisters back?" She speaks with the same emotionless voice like she always does.
Nodding slightly to show that I will, I begin to peel them off, Ram being the first one to get off. Next is Rom, who surprisingly holds me more tightly than her sister did in her sleep.
Once that's done, Blanc loads the books she's checking into a backpack and loads it up. She then picks up her little sisters and holds each of them with one hand. Damn she's strong, a lot stronger than I'll ever be.
"Thanks… for keeping them occupied. They've really taken a like to you."
"Have they now?"
Blanc smiles slightly, however it's the biggest smile I've seen her make so far. I think today might be a day when I get to connect to a friend more.
"Sometimes around the house, they say that they want to see you again. Ram says you're fun to play with. Rom says you're really nice and she likes you."
Well it's great to know that some of my friends look forward to seeing me. Especially if someone so young can grow to like me. I must admit that my appearance isn't the most welcoming.
"In a way… they look up to you."
I'm not sure how to take that. I've never been one who's been looked up to. But as my old personality has taken some adjusting to get used to, it might take some getting used to for this.
I can actually feel myself blushing a little from thinking about it. I can't believe how much I blush when I talk to my friends. The development that's gone through all of us is a welcome change though.
"Well, I should probably be getting home. These two will more than likely wake up halfway through."
"You want me to come along and carry one of them?"
Blanc shakes her head lightly, "I'll be alright, I wouldn't want to impose on your time here."
"Alright…"
Blanc begins walking towards the door after I say my form of a goodbye. That's the last that I see of her for the rest of the day. I'm glad that we got to spend this time together, the four of us.
Above all else, I want these good times to last. That means I'm going to have to increase my bond with everyone. And I think I've done a good job at that already.
"*Creak*"
The door right beside me opens up. The creaking sound startles me a little but I calm down after a second.
The person who opened the door walks through. Martin stops and looks to me. I wasn't expecting to see him today either. Today is just full of developing moments with my friends.
"Good afternoon my friend."
"Good to see you Martin."
Martin and I begin to walk to the reading area where I was just a short while ago. Let's see why he's here today.
It's probably for the same reason as Blanc and I, to get some new books to read. However there are more reasons for coming to a library.
Either way I'm sure me and him will have some sort of fun while we're here. Though from what I've seen so far, we have a lot of differences in our personalities. For instances, Martin is a bit more serious than me when it comes to school work.
That's only a minor one, there are a few more I'll go over in the future. For now though, I still have some friend time to be having.
"So, what brings you here?"
"I was looking for a book that I like. Angels and Demons is the title."
Angels and Demons, I know of the book but I have no idea what it's about in the slightest. Maybe after he's done with it I can read it for myself and see why he likes it.
"I've seen it around before, I think it's in that section over there."
I point to the section where I think I saw it a little bit ago. It's a big book so I know for a fact that it would stick out like a sore thumb.
About a minute later, Martin comes back with a book in tow. From what I can assume, it's the book that he was looking for originally.
"Thank you for the assistance. I'll be on my way now. Goodbye for now."
Just like that he's about to leave. I haven't had a lot of time to actually get to know him yet. A lot of him still remains a mystery to me. Perhaps the both of us can have an outing, just the two of us.
A manly picnic!
"Hey Martin, before you go, would you… maybe like to hang out tomorrow?"
Martin puts a finger on his chin and ponders what he can do. I understand if he's busy, but I'd still really like to get to know him. If I wasn't so caring about this, I'd say he a was a villain out to get me.
But I have a feeling that he's more than that. I think that he's just like me, misunderstood and looking for some form of identity.
"I suppose I can, would you like to come to my house then?"
A chance to see what his house looks like, that's just what I was looking for. As well as we can connect better if we're alone.
And who knows, he may become my best friend in the world if things go right. But he'll still never be as important as Nepgear that's for sure.
"Ok, I'll be there."
With that, Martin walks his way towards the checkout counter to borrow his book. Again, I really need to read it one of these days. But enough of that, tomorrow after school is going to be really fun.
I can already tell.
A/N: Sorry for going from dramatic to the same old shtick, it's just kind of my style. As well as it's kind of hard to convey a real story with a background like this.
I promise that in my next fanfiction that it'll be completely different. Same goes for the sequel if things go well enough that there will be one.
As always, leave a review, they're always encouraged. And maybe PM me, I'd like to hear every little idea that's going through your skulls. Until then…
See you in the next update.
