So, recently, I gave in and read The Way of Kings.

Wow. So of course I wrote something for it. This is kind of a spoiler for the end of The Way of Kings, which is the only one I've read so far. Enjoy!

He'd given Kaladin his cloak.

Dalinar Kholin, lighteyed highprince, had given Kaladin, darkeyed bridgeman slave, his cloak.

Kaladin doesn't really know what to think. Dalinar can't possibly expect him to keep this. In a few hours or days, he'll come and ask for it back.

What's he supposed to do with this, anyway?

The first night after Dalinar trades the Shardblade for them (he traded a Shardblade for us, a Shardblade for bridgemen), he ends up using it as a blanket, because the barrack may be nice, but it's still stone. Still cold. And the cloak is very warm, torn and tattered from the battle, then mended. It feels like silk compared to the thin blankets used by the bridgemen before. He lays awake for hours, cloak draped around his shoulders, listening to his men's steady breathing (Safe. Safe. They won't die tomorrow.), and eventually, he drifts off as well, and for the first time in months, maybe years, he feels warm.

The next morning, they are given uniforms. They are required to wear them, but none of them really mind. The blue and white clothes are sturdily woven, a far cry from the tattered shirts and ragged pants they wore in Sadeas's camp. At times, they get a bit warm, but better too warm, then too cold.

He leaves the cloak in the locker at the foot of his bunk.

Dalinar doesn't ask for it back.

This is really short, I know. It was fun to take a look at what Kaladin might be thinking. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or PM me. Stay safe and stay positive!
