Chapter 6
Clearly, I'm more intelligent than you
I was undeniably, utterly, extremely furious. All I wanted to do was take Kagura's little head and smash it into a car door, while I cut out those creepy red eyes and make her suffer. But I wasn't going to do that because one, it was a disgusting idea and two, I was pretty sure it was illegal. But that didn't mean I wasn't going to do something. I just had to think of an idea…hurry up brain think one up!
Apparently my brain was on the fritz because I couldn't think up a damn thing. The students started to chuckle and whisper things once I was in the hallway. The place was littered with flyers and posters of me, how could they not laugh? I would laugh too if the picture didn't have my face.
Beside me, I heard a fierce growl sound. I glance up to see the dog demon handcuffed to me in complete outrage. His eyes glowed red as the strips on his cheeks grew thicker. Huh, I never knew they could do that. "Chill Hulk," I instructed low.
He returned back and grabbed one of the posters from the wall. "Come with me," he growled, coldly.
I really didn't have much choice to follow him or not. I would've stayed behind but nope. Apparently he wanted to do something about this mess. Did he have a plan? My guess was not from the way he was marching through the halls. You should always have a battle plan heading into war, but Sesshomaru supposedly didn't think he needed one. Stupid demons.
"Okay, ouch," I snapped when he pulled a little bit too hard. "Seriously," I tried to stop him. Gosh was he ever strong. "Sesshomaru stop!" He stopped and faced me, his eyes wide with surprise. I then realized I had called him by his first name. Great, now I was going to get an earful. I had to stop him. So I did the only thing I could do, I pulled him down to kiss him. "Shut up." I muttered in between kisses.
By the time we pulled away more people were looking at us more and more. They even stopped walking and seemed to have circled us. "Get lost!" I snapped.
"Wow, You're more scary then a demon," Sesshomaru commented.
"Oh shut it." I think I might've pulled him away from killing Kagura. Score one for Rin! But then I felt him pull on me again. Never mind. "Sesshomaru, you don't even have a plan!"
"Yes, I do," he growled. "Kill Kagura."
"Wow, that's a very well thought out plan," I sarcastically remarked. "You sir are very smart."
"Since you don't have one, I'm going through with mine. But I have a feeling yours wouldn't be very good."
"Hey what do you mean by that?"
"What I mean is that you are a woman. Human woman at that. Clearly, I'm more intelligent than you."
I just got insulted. "Asshole!"
He didn't say a word as he consciously dragged me through the crowded halls. Students moved away from us as he quickened his speed. He had caught Kagura's scent and there would probably be blood on his hand by the end of the day as well as an expulsion letter. The faster he walked the more trouble I had keeping up. If he was going to go any faster, I would trip and it wouldn't be pretty. "Takahashi, enough, I'm going to tripppp," I blurred out as I fell face to the ground.
Snickers erupted around us earning them a warning growl from him. He picked me up from the ground as I tried to shake off the sharp pain in my right ankle. Terrific. "You're injured," he commented.
No duh! "Thanks captain obvious, I had no idea I had a broken ankle!" This was perfect. What a great time to have a broken foot. Nice going, Rin. Well on the bright side, Sesshomaru wouldn't be expelled today.
He let out a loud sigh and helped me to the nurse's office. "Looks like we're not going to class this afternoon," he said.
"And looks like you won't kick Kagura's ass," I said back, wincing in pain.
"I'll kick it later. When we are free from this insufferable contraption," holding up the huffs.
"I was the one who was supposed to do the kicking though. I'm the one on these posters, not you. It's my job to get revenge."
We sat on the bed as the nurse retrieved some ice for my ankle. "When I saw your picture up there Rin, I got angry. No one does that to my girlfriend. Don't worry about it. I'll take care of it and I don't want to hear any 'ifs, ands, or buts' out of you. Understand?"
I looked at Sesshomaru, amazed. Did he really care about me that much? "Takahashi…"
When the nurse came back in she gave us an odd stare before speaking to Sesshomaru, "Mr. Takahashi, you can go to class. Ms. Mori will be fine."
"Impossible," Sesshomaru commented, coldly. "We remain together."
"Look, I understand you two are a couple but you really must return back to class." News does travel fast around here. Even the staff knew we were dating.
"He's right," I added, holding up to show her the steel handcuffs. "We're kind of a package deal."
"Oh dear," she noticed, eyeing the cuffs closely. "Well, I'll just wrap your ankle here and Mr. Takahashi, will you take her to the emergency room after?"
He nodded once, and the nurse began to wrap my swollen ankle up. After, Sesshomaru picked me up and left the office. "Thank you," I whispered to him.
Most of the flyers and posters were gone once we got out. The janitor and a few of the staff must've taken them down. I was relieved for once but I knew this little quarrel wasn't finished yet. Kagura was still going to eat my kumuppins.
I felt the wind hit my face, making me realize we were already outside. "Hold on," Sesshomaru whispered in my ear. Then I felt a rush of wind and my stomach lift. Once I glanced down below me though, I knew I had just made the worst mistake ever.
I started to freak out.
"OH MY GOD!" I shrieked, hanging onto Sesshomaru with dear life. "AH I'M GOING TO DIE! I'M GOING TO DIE!"
"Stop your shrieking, I won't drop you," he muttered hard. "Just keep looking into my eyes, okay?"
I nodded, shaking uncontrollably, and not because I was cold. I didn't know how high we were and I didn't care. But I was pretty sure we were about…I don't know…five hundred feet. Give or take? And five hundred feet plus terrified Rin equaled bad news. I hate heights.
My eyes were glued to Sesshomaru's golden ones. I prayed and prayed that we would land safe and sound, I really didn't want to become road kill or sky kill. Thank god we landed a few minutes later.
I breathed out in relief, loosening my grip on Sesshomaru. "I thought I was a goner for a second."
We entered the hospital when Sesshomaru responded, "Don't you have any trust in me at all?"
"You should know that question, Takahashi."
"What happened to calling me Sesshomaru?" he questioned.
I looked away blushing. I thought we were over this? "I've never called you by your first name. You know that."
He chuckled low, "Whatever you say, Mutant."
The next few hours were consisted of doctors coming in and checking my ankle and a few other places for signs of injury. Man, there was sure a lot of work to do for just one break. I did x-rays and the doctors concluded I only fractured the far side of my right foot and would heal in a month or two. They gave me crutches and said there was no need for a cast. All I had to do was ice it twice a day and stay off of it. Sounds simple to me.
The only problem was the demon attached to me. He would have to walk slower- as much of his dismay- and act gentler around me. When we left the hospital, he muttered 'weak human' and picked me up once again into his arms.
Oh no.
I screamed loud as we lifted off into the air.
"Silence!" Sesshomaru barked. "Or I'll drop you."
I quieted down. Woo, he was going to get it when we landed.
For once I actually looked down and…bad idea. We were definitely higher than five hundred feet. It was more than five hundred and twenty five feet. So much scarier.
Oh, I felt so dizzy and I was beginning to get nauseas. I wonder what Sesshomaru would do if I accidently threw up on him. He would probably do something…nope didn't want to think of that. Anyways, I would just have to concentrate on him and not on my wheezing stomach.
I was so, so happy when we landed in front of his large, giant mansion castle thing. "Ah ground, you don't know how much I missed you!" I exclaimed. "If you weren't so dirty, I would kiss you!"
"You would rather kiss the ground then your boyfriend?" Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow.
"At least the ground wouldn't threaten to drop me five hundred and twenty-five feet in the air," I replied, leaning onto him as I hopped inside.
"You screamed in my ear," he argued, raising his voice.
"That's because you flew into the air without warning!"
"Hn." He was upset which meant I won this round. Raise the roof!
I hobbled to the kitchen with Sesshomaru's help of course. He wasn't talking to me… nothing new there. I knew we were due for a fight anyways, so I didn't really care all that much.
The smell of food hit my nose as my stomach growled in response. I was starving and smelled like they were about to eat dinner. I hurried along as fast as I could but soon I heard a loud huff behind me, I was lifted up and placed on a chair in the dining room. I glanced over to Sesshomaru who was sitting quietly, avoiding my gaze.
Inuyasha was also at the table, sitting across from us and staring at us strangely. "What's with him?" he asked, sipping his water.
Sesshomaru growled low at him.
"He's angry," I answered.
"Nothing new there," Inuyasha replied.
I nodded my head, peering at Sesshomaru from the corner of my eye. "Get over it Sesshomaru. You're like a child that wasn't allowed to have a chocolate chip cookie. There will be many more fights you can win in the future…geez."
He snarled, ignoring me completely. I sighed, knowing I wouldn't get through to him. He was such a sore loser. He always hated loosing fights. Whenever he lost, he would give me the silent treatment. Once it lasted for a whole week. Man, was it ever hard to not slap him in the face. I would've done it too if I wasn't going to get suspended over it.
Sounds alerted me from the kitchen as Izayoi and Mr. Takahashi emerged, sitting down at each end of the table.
"Hello you two," Izayoi smiled. "And how was your day?"
"Terrific," I smiled back. "If you don't count the part where I was publicly humiliated, fractured my foot, and getting ignored by him."
"Oh my. But other than that, it was good right?"
"Brilliant."
"Well, that's good. Why are you ignoring her Sesshomaru?" she asked in a motherly tone.
He didn't answer. All he did was eat his dinner silently like a good little demon. I sighed, "It's because I won a fight. He's being a baby."
A growl emitted from his throat as he continued to eat.
"Don't worry dear," Mr. Takahashi reassured his wife, "It's all part of Sesshomaru's nature. We dog demons hate losing."
"Makes sense," she mumbled.
Curiosity got the best of me as I asked why.
"Well," Mr. Takahashi started, "when I met Izayoi, she was already engaged to marry but I didn't want to lose her. So I did everything I could to win her over."
"Awe, that's so romantic," I commented. "What did you do?"
"Got her pregnant," he chuckled.
I frowned realizing he only got her because she got knocked up. Well played though. So I nodded, impressed.
"Can we change the subject please," Inuyasha asked. "I want to hear more about how Sesshomaru got owned by Rin."
Sesshomaru growled again. "Sesshomaru," I snapped, annoyed. "Stop growling!"
"Yeah." Inuyasha added, "You're being a baby," flicking a piece of stake at him.
"Inuyasha," Izayoi yelled. "Don't play with your food."
"But it's fun to annoy the crap out of him," he said, flicking another piece at his face.
Sesshomaru though managed to catch it in his hand, slamming it on the table. "Silence, half-breed!"
Then he got up and dragged me out of the room before I could have one bit of my supper.
I staggered beside him, trying to keep up with his marching. "Come on, I didn't even have one bite!" I whined. Okay, now this was just getting ridiculous. "Can you please slow down; you know I can't go that fast." Still nothing. I was going to trip again if he didn't stop. "Hello? Human girl here with a deformed foot, not want to cause an alarm or anything, but I think you might want to slow down."
"Then maybe you should stop being a klutz and stop getting hurt you insufferable human!" he snapped.
I don't know why but when I said that I began to feel…hurt? Depressed? Sad? Strange, I had never felt this way when Sesshomaru yelled at me before. What the heck was going on with my eyes too? It was like I was about to cry. Oh great, I was about to cry.
I was sure tears were running down my cheeks when Sesshomaru pulled me into his room. My foot was pulsing with pain but I didn't care. My feelings were hurt which was very rare.
"Stop your crying, Rin," he muttered softly. How did he know I was crying? Oh right, we was a dog demon and he probably smelled the tears before they even came.
I tried to stop the tears as we sat down quietly on his bed. "Sorry," I said, low. I think this was the first time I ever said 'sorry' to him too! He better make it up to me.
"No, not because I told you to. I can't stand to see you cry."
That's when I glanced up at him to see him peering down at me. "Sessh…"
He took his thumb and whipped the remaining tears from my cheeks. Then he leaned down slowly and captured my lips in a passionate kiss. I closed my eyes on contact, responding to his kiss. I would've liked nothing more than to keep kissing but my stomach suddenly interrupted rudely. Sesshomaru chuckled, "Seems like your stomach isn't inclined for a make-out session at the moment."
I laughed, "Yeah, I guess not."
"Why don't we go down and grab something quick. Then we can come up here and have some fun," he whispered seductively into my ear.
I nodded, grabbing his cuffed hand with my own.
Looked like the fight was over. For now at least.
We got back to his room with my tummy full of food. A stuffed Rin was a happy Rin. I smiled big, flopping back onto his bed with glee. "Why are you so happy?" he asked, leaning over me.
"I'm feeling much better than earlier. Well minus the foot of course," I giggled.
He leaned over and kissed me sweetly. "I'm glad."
"You were such a dick earlier. I hope you know that."
"Shut up, Mutant," he said, giving me a harder, more loving kiss.
He pulled away as I continued, "I'm serious." Only to dragged me into another kiss.
"Enough talk," he whispered, taking his kisses and trailing down my neck.
I moaned in response, arching my back and begging for more. But, it was a school night so… "Takahashi, please… not tonight."
He pulled away and locked eyes. "Party pooper."
"Sorry, it's a school night and I'm afraid if we do it…you know," trying to tell him something important. I was guessing he didn't get it since he gave me an eyebrow raise. "What I'm trying to say is that I'm not on birth control."
"I have condoms," he commented.
I rolled my eyes. "I know you have condoms but sometimes they aren't 100% effective. I don't want to be that type of girl that gets pregnant before she graduates high school, let alone with her enemy."
"Okay, one, we aren't enemies anymore- you're my girlfriend. Two, you aren't pregnant from the first time we did it. What's going to change now?"
"Still… I just want to be careful."
He sighed out. "Fine…whatever." Oh now he's upset again. Geez, these dog demons are impossible.
We laid there. In bed. Doing absolutely nothing. At two a.m. in the morning. I tried to sleep but kept thinking of Sesshomaru and our arguments. He didn't really know a lot about me either and thought maybe that could be a part of the problem. Weren't people in relationships supposed to know each other well? Sure he knew some stuff and I knew some stuff him as well but he didn't know the whole story about me and my past.
I knew he was awake from the uneven breathing, so I sat up and face him square on. "I understand you are frustrated with me but…I'm sorry. I just wasn't comfortable doing it tonight. Plus, my foot is crying out in pain and…"
"Don't worry about it. I'm more frustrated at myself. Here I am with the most beautiful girl and I can't seem to keep my pants on." He reached up and caressed my cheek. "I'm the one who's sorry."
Wow, he just said 'sorry' to me. Our relationship sure has grown. I was so proud!
"Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something."
"I knew it. I can smell you're troubled."
"It's about…my parents and me and everything about my past."
He sat up and leaned against his headboard ready to listen. "Your parents don't live with you do they."
I shook my head slowly. "No, my parents passed away when I was five. I've been in foster homes since then up until I was fourteen."
"Rin…"
"Listen, I just want to tell you the reason why I am like I am. Why I was mute all those years ago. It was during Christmas time, Christmas Eve to be exact. We were all asleep and I remember waking up in the middle of the night, hearing a noise downstairs. I got excited because I thought it was Santa Claus but I was gravely mistaken. When I arrived downstairs, I ran into a closet when I saw my dad, and three other men with guns. Then I watched as one of the men pulled the trigger and shot my dad in the head. My Mom came downstairs following my thirteen year old brother. They two were shot just as they entered the living room.
"I kept quiet because I knew if I made one sound, they would find me. It was okay thought because I was so scared that I couldn't even move let alone scream. When they left, I remained in the closet until the police showed up twenty minutes later. They asked me all these questions but I didn't speak. I couldn't. And for the next few years I was mute and was plagued with nightmares. The foster homes that carried me only took me in for a few months before I went to another one. I was too much of a trouble for them- always getting into fights. Besides, they couldn't afford therapy for me anyways. There was no point in staying with them so when I turned fourteen, I rented an apartment and stayed there ever since."
"I never knew," he noted.
"It's okay. I was fine after a few years. Actually it was when I met you and Ayame that I began to feel a lot better. I think Ayame's friendship and our arguing erased all the demons, but I still get nightmares. But, Sesshomaru…I'm thankful I met you. Without you, I don't know what would've happened to me. You kept me going."
He pulled me in for a kiss, "I'm glad to be of service."
That night I lay perfectly in his arms. Thinking of all the great memories we had together.
And the more I thought of it the more deeply in love I got with him.
xXx
We drove to school the next day, thank god. I don't think I would've been able to stand another ride on the bus, elementary school bus or not. They all smelled like rotten cheese, and I don't think Sesshomaru would be able to do it either. So after a small talk with his dad, he allowed us to take the car.
When we arrived at school, we were immediately met with Kagura's ugly face. And I thought this day would be a good day. But when are my days are ever good?
"Sesshomaru, we need to talk," she blabbed out. I rolled my eyes as I hopped towards her with Sesshomaru's help.
"What?" he asked, angrily. I know he was dying to just kill her but he was thinking. That was good. He needed to remember the disable girl beside him. Trust me though; I wanted to get my revenge as much as he did.
Then she gave us the creepiest smile ever. "I was just wondering something."
That was it…I couldn't stand her voice. "Hey Kagura! What the hell is wrong with you?" I snapped.
She scrunched her nose up like there was a skunk in the area. She was right, there was, and it was standing right in front of me with beating red eyes and wearing clothes that didn't fit properly. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about yesterday when you put those flyers and posters up with my face on it!"
She crossed her arms and looked smug. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"I think damn well you know what I'm talking about! What did I ever do to you?"
She snickered. "Well for one, you stole my boyfriend." She had a point there.
"So, he didn't like you! You were nothing but a substitute to him."
"Fuck you, bitch!"
Oh, now she had done it. I leaped towards her only to be stopped by Sesshomaru. Rule number one, if you want to get me angry, expect a beating. I've put up with Sesshomaru for over ten years and I was sure I could put up with anybody after him.
"Kagura, what did you need to tell me?" he growled, obviously fighting the urge to hurt her.
"I was just wondering if she knew."
I narrowed my eyes at her. "Knew what?"
"What happened at the party?"
I felt Sesshomaru tense beside me, mentally telling me he knew something. "What is she talking about?"
"I don't know. She's delirious."
"No I'm not Sesshy. I know all about your little plan," she smirked. "And I must say…wow."
"What plan?" I asked, confused by all of this.
"It's nothing," he answered me. "How did you find out about this?" he asked her. "I specifically thought I told you, you were not allowed in my house."
"I've got ears, Sesshy. You know, others telling me what occurred that night. Why don't you tell her? Tell her what you told your friends while she was drunk badly," Kagura suggested. "I would love to see her reaction."
I turned to Sesshomaru waiting for an answer. But all I got was a deer in the headlights. What was he thinking? What was this 'plan' I was hearing about?
I had a feeling though if I found out …I wouldn't like it.
