Yay birthday updates!

Chapter 25

You look like Peter Pan

*BANG*

Yeah, that's not something I would like to be woken up to. It's like one of those noises when you're a kid where you think it's a burglar, so you a) hide under the sheets and pretend to be dead; or b) get up, get your baseball bat, and hunt down the noise like in a crazy video game. For me, I was always the former. But this noise was concerning. Not because made me jump twenty feet in bed, but because the handcuffs attached to my wrist…yeah, the person on the other end was gone.

Sesshomaru was gone!

You can honestly say that I was really, really confused at this point.

"What the…?"

Maybe he figured out a way to free himself and that loud noise was actually him? Right?

I looked at the open bedroom door, watching it like I was waiting for him to appear out of the dark hallway with some cake or something…which reminded me…

My stomach.

I pressed a hand to my stomach, feeling the flatness. I could've sworn I had a bump before. My eyes narrowed in concern and another bang erupted through the room.

"Fuck…what in blazes? Takahashi?" I called out from the bed. "Takahashi, where are you?"

Then another sound echoed. One that I never thought I would hear for another several months.

A cry of a baby.

My skin crawled, and I got onto my feet, grabbing a robe as I made my way to the door. The crying went on, making my heart race with utter anxiety. There was something about this that wasn't right. Did I have some kind of accident that made me forget the last months of my pregnancy and the birth? And if so, what happened? Why did I still have the handcuffs attached to my wrist, too? Where was Sesshomaru?

I entered the dark hallway, seeing a few candles lit in the shadows. It made the house even creepier. Note to self: never walk these halls at night. Oh geez…I was already doing it.

More crying. My head turned left down the hall towards the crying. I walked slowly, each step making the floor creak under me. Why did Sesshomaru need to live in such a large place? I groaned quietly in response. "Takahashi?" I whispered in the darkness. "Gods, where is he?"

I stopped at the door of the room where the crying was. Chills ran down my spine like a spider. When I entered the room, it was decorated with baby things. It was my child's nursery. I swallowed the thick lump in my throat, walking towards the small, lacy cradle in the middle of the room. Man, I felt like I was in some horror movie or something. This would be the part of the movie where I actually got to the cradle to reveal some hideous monster or crazy possessed doll lying in it that would eat my face off or something. If that was the case, why was I walking towards it again? Oh yeah, creepy baby cry and missing Sesshomaru…that's why. I was sure a crazy one.

I bit my lip when I stopped beside the cradle. The crying still went on. My hand went for the covers. Whatever was under this…oh good lord.

And I ripped off the covers to reveal…

"A baby monitor?" I raised an eyebrow, picking the nosy device up.

I turned it off, but once I did, something behind me moved and another cry began. Just as I turned, I saw a dark shape leave the room with the noise going with it. "Takahashi?"

I ran after him, feeling frustrated. This was probably some joke that Sesshomaru made up. I shook my head, balling my hands into a fist as I chased him down. I ran through the corridors, turning a corner in time to watch the dark shape disappear around another. "For fuck sake…Takahashi, stop playing games!"

When I turned the last corner, I landed in the large ballroom of the house…wait, I thought this room was down stairs…standing in the middle of the room was the figure. The crying at stopped and it was dead silent. Oh god…

I walked towards who I thought was Sesshomaru carefully. "Sesshomaru?" I spoke his name with clarity. "What is going on?"

Then I noticed it. In the darkness, I felt I had stepped in something wet. I didn't know what it was so I wiped it onto my hand and smelled it.

Blood.

"What the fuck?" I stood back up and walked a little more closely to the figure. Then the lights turned on and revealed the cause of the blood. Standing at the bottom of my feet was Sesshomaru - throat lacerated, and dead. I tried to scream, but nothing was coming out. My whole body froze like a popsicle. If Sesshomaru was there then…I turned my head to the figure and a small bundle wrapped in its arms.

It was him.

He smiled; placing a finger to his lips and making a soft shush. "You'll wake it," he hissed.

And then I screamed.

xXx

Having a nightmare when you're pregnant? Check.

Screaming your-self awake from said nightmare? Check.

Scaring the living crap out of a dog demon? Priceless.

Screaming in the sunny morning made Sesshomaru jump so much that it almost caused me to fall off the bed. I can honestly say it was funny and terrifying at the same time. And if I wasn't terrified by the nightmare I just had, I would be, what everyone says, "laughing their socks off", or something.

I breathed hard, trying to recollect myself. The handcuffs on my wrist were still attached to my loving enemy/fiancé, and my belly was still cooking a bun. Everything was okay. Except it wasn't. Now I would have to explain to a very concerned dog demon what happened. And here comes the question.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Just a nightmare," I said. "And before you ask…"

Oh great, freeze now why don't you, Rin! Sesshomaru was going to go crazy. I can see it now.

"What is it?" he asked in his serious tone.

I blinked, shaking my head. "It was him…he was there and…" I touched my stomach and looked into Sesshomaru's eyes. "Sesshomaru, don't leave my side."

He narrowed his eyes. "Him? Anonymous?"

I nodded. "He…he…"

"What did he do?"

I couldn't look at him when I answered. It was a reflex that made me look away and close my eyes. I wasn't sure if I was scared of his response or scared of the response itself. I think it was the latter that really made my blood run cold. I couldn't imagine now-

"He killed you."

His right hand was on my cheek in an instant, making me lock eyes with him. "That will never happen. You hear me, Rin? I will never be defeated by someone as weak as this fool. He will be hunted down by my claws way before that happens."

"I told you not to think about something like hunting him down."

"And I told you that if he ever tries to harm you or the pup, I will." He let out a sigh and growled low. "You know what, enough of this. I'm done. This guy needs to be found."

"Don't go on a dog hunt with me attached to you please," I begged, as he got up, giving me that look that I was an idiot.

"No, I'm going to get Inuyasha to track down his phone and report it to the police. I'll use my claws as a last resort."

He got me off the bed and dragged me to the other side of the house. Then we stopped in front of a black door with all these "Keep Out" and "Warning" signs. Sesshomaru knocked quickly and in a few seconds time, Inuyasha's voice called from behind the door.

"WHAT? WHAT DO YOU WANT!?" he called.

"Open the door, half-breed."

The door creeped open, and a golden eye peered through the crack. "What do you want?"

"I need your help with something."

"I'm sorry; did you just say that you needed my help with something?" he asked with a chuckle in his voice.

"Do I need to repeat myself?" Sesshomaru hissed.

"Actually yeah, I think you do! Wait…I need to get my camera and record this, because I still can't believe the mighty-"

"Okay."

"-great-"

"Alright."

"-oh powerful-"

"That's enough."

"Sesshomaru needs my help."

We waited for a few seconds until Sesshomaru spoke again. "Are you done?"

"Yeah, come on in," he was about to open it fully until he paused. "Oh, and don't touch anything."

I gave Sesshomaru a curious look following him into a dark room full of bright monitors, wires, and game consoles. Wonder where he slept…? I really hope that if I did accidently stepped or tripped on one of these wires that nothing would explode.

Inuyasha sat in his large black leather chair, crossed his legs and started to tap his fingers together like a cliché mob boss. I rolled my eyes at his act. "So, what brings you to my lair?"

"I need you to track down Mr. Anonymous in Rin's phone," Sesshomaru said, handing him my phone.

"Please, don't break it. I can't afford another one," I mentioned.

"Mr. Anoymous? Is he the guy that's been leaving you those strange messages?" Inuyasha asked.

"That's the one."

"Can you do it, Inuyasha?" Sesshomaru asked.

"Keh, don't you know me at all? Of course I can. But first…" he held out his hand.

What did he want? A handshake?

"Payment? Whatda ya got for me?"

Sesshomaru pulled something small out of his back pocket and gave it to him. A memory stick? "The whole entire Friends series." Sesshomaru said.

"Yes! Payment accepted. Give me one hour."

We left after that. Of course, after I tripped on one of his many cored though. Bloody hell he needs to turn on some lights or something. Kagome, what did you see in this guy?

As we were walking back to Sesshomaru's bedroom, small little feet pattered towards us. Oh, it was Sesshomaru's toad thing…or something. I forgot his name. I never see him so; there was really no point to. But here he came, waddling or whatever in panic. I really wanted to laugh. Really, I did. But I held it back in the politeness of my being.

"Lord Sesshomaru! Lord Sesshomaru!" he squawked, stopping in front of us out of breath.

"What is it, Jaken," he said in a strict tone.

So Jaken was his name.

He didn't look like a Jaken to me. Actually, scratch that, he was exactly what I imagined a 'Jaken' to look like. I was thinking about the name 'Jake' for some reason.

"M'lord, some roses have arrived for Rin," he squeaked.

"Roses?" I asked, curiously.

We followed Jaken down the stairs to the large foyer to see a large bouquet sitting on the table beside the door. I looked at the red roses, trying to just figure this whole thing out.

"I can't get a scent," Sesshomaru commented. "Damn flowers."

That was when I noticed a white card in the middle. I pulled it out, and unfolded it slowly. I swallowed the lump in my throat before I read it. "For my love: Every rose symbolizing my love and blood lust for you. Soon we shall be together. Forever yours, Anonymous." I closed the note and ripped it afterwards, shaking my head. "Unbelievable. Does he not give up?"

Blood lust? Was he a vampire or something?

"We'll find him, don't worry, Rin."

"I'm more concerned about you now, Takahashi. This guy knows where you live!"

"Do you not remember what I told you?" he took my chin and lifted it up to his face. "Don't underestimate me. That guy cannot defeat me."

"I swear, if he ever does hurt you…"

"Rin, enough. There will be no more of talking about this guy from you. Inuyasha will track him down and we'll get the police to find him. Done."

Sesshomaru then pulled out his phone and looked at it for a second, before placing it back into his pocket.

"Inuyasha is finished."

"That was fast."

"Let's get this ass-hole."

xXx

"So…you want the good news or the bad news?" Inuyasha said once we arrived.

"Just tell us, half-breed!" Sesshomaru snapped.

"Okay, I'll start with the bad. Bad news, I can't track him."

"What?"

"He seems to be using a phone that a) has an anti-tracking system so that someone like me can't track him down; or b) he uses burner phones. Aka, I can't track him down. There's no lead to him. Sorry, broski."

"And the good new?" I asked.

"Good news?...oh yeah, the Friends file you gave me is perfect quality! Thanks!" he smiled.

I frowned and Sesshomaru growled. In a flash, he had Inuyasha's memory stick in his hands and disintegrated it. Green mist ran off his hands as well as melted plastic. Gross.

"Dude! Now what am I supposed to watch when Kagome isn't around?" he complained.

"Figure it out," Sesshomaru threatened with his claws.

Then he pulled me out of the room and back into his. I sat on his bed as he started to pace a bit back and forth, dragging my arm with him.

"Okay, Takahashi, can you stop that now? My arm is starting to get sore."

"What are we going to do?" he sat on the bed beside me and put his hand over his face.

I placed my left hand on his shoulder, rubbing it. "We'll figure this out. Just please, don't go Peter Pan on me."

He looked at me through his hand. "Peter Pan?"

"Yeah, when you fly, or glide or whatever," I grinned. "You look like Peter Pan."

"Hn."

I held my cuffed hand with his, and smiled. "Just, whatever happened, promise me one thing."

"What it is?"

"Don't go doing something you'll regret."
