So two things. One: I know I should've updated this sooner, but unfortunate circumstances stopped me in March/April. I had a passing in my family in early April so I placed things on hold that weren't written in advanced. I apologize. Two: I'm going to Japan in the middle of May for two weeks! I'm just getting ready to go now. I've been preparing this for a few months, and my schedule with school and now with work has been crazy. Everything should slow down in June so I plan to write a lot then. :)
Chapter 27
I'm surrounded by ninjas!
That moment when you realize you're on the wrong side of town and need to get back home right away. Yeah, I think I started walking back when Sesshomaru finally stopped me and told me to think for a minute. But I was too excited! For the first time in a long time I was excited for something. It felt like Christmas again.
I smiled while I stood there, remembering my family when I was a child. I knew Sesshomaru was staring at me with a questionable look. But my eyes only saw the grey skies above, threatening to rain down on us. But the memories of my blissful childhood swarmed me like a warm hug. Colourful presents under the tree. The crackling fire danced in the fireplace. The mugs of hot coco and bedtime stories. Magical lights and reflected ornaments hanging from an eight foot tree. My mother's warm smile and voice. My father's laugh. My brothers' kindness. My family.
A tear ran down my face, well…at least I thought it was a tear. But I opened my eyes I saw rain falling lightly down. So I nodded my head to Sesshomaru, stepped towards him, and pointed up.
"Giddy up!" I said.
He raised an eyebrow at me. "Do I look like a horse to you?"
"Sure! Now fly, Pegasus!"
"Pegasus isn't a horse, Rin," he commented.
"Are you going to argue about this to me now? Come on! I have things to do!"
"And are you going to tell me these things?"
I waved a hand at him. "Yes, yes. Later! Now go!"
And we were off. Might I add though that the rain started to pour like a shower, and not a warm one at that? Thank goodness for Sesshomaru's bubble…thing, or else I would freeze even more than I was now.
When we landed, was I cold? Yes.
Were my teeth chattering? Yes.
Did I want to crawl into bed forever? Hell yes!
Did I need to pee?
…well, I'll leave that question unanswered.
I dragged Sesshomaru inside quickly, rushing up the stairs with him behind me. He did complain at first, but then stopped his words. Well, well, well, guess he knows how I felt when he dragged me around! I laugh at his face now. HA!
"Rin, can you please tell me what you are trying to do?"
I only smiled, tightening my grip on his cuffed hand. I turned the corner of the corridor, heading towards a door with caution tags all over it. We had arrived at our destination.
"Inuyasha's room?" Sesshomaru questioned. "Tell me why we need the half-breed for this? Didn't he already try and help, and failed?"
I didn't answer and knocked, waiting.
…waiting…
Still waiting! My foot tapped the floor impatiently and I growled in frustration. I grabbed the door knob, realizing it was unlocked and swung it open to darkness.
"Uh…he isn't here," I spoke.
"Rin, answer my question."
I turned to Sesshomaru. "Quiet, I need Inuyasha." Then I started to pat his pockets, searching for his phone.
"Why do you possibly need Inuyasha? And what are you doing?!"
I dug into one of his jean pockets, pulling out his phone.
"Rin, is there a reason why you need my phone?"
"Shh, you're asking too many questions," I commented, waving a hand in his face.
I scanned his contacts, finding Inuyasha's name, and pressed the call button. When I placed it to my ear, Sesshomaru was already trying to take it from me. I pressed my right hand into his face, but he only snarled.
Then a voice picked up on the other line. Rather annoyed might I add.
"What? What do you want?" Inuyasha answered. "I'm busy, Sesshomaru. This better be good."
"Actually it's Rin, and I need you to do me a favour."
"What? Did Sesshomaru go through all the porn I gave him already with you? Damn, that was fast."
My eyes grew wide and I gave Sesshomaru the what-the-fuck look which he replied don't-ask-he's-an-idiot look. I know he could hear Inuyasha's voice on the other end. He tried to grab the phone again and I only held it away.
"Let me speak to that idiot, Rin," he demanded.
"Shoo, I'm trying to ask him something!" I argued.
"Hand the phone over now!"
"Shut it, Takahashi! Stop barking in my ear!"
Inuyasha growled on the line. "Can you two shut up and tell me what you want?!"
"I need you, Inuyasha! Like…right now!" I blurted out.
And everything became quiet. Did I say that too…? Yeah, I did. Sesshomaru was giving me a shocked look too.
"Not like that!" I quickly said.
There were a few moments of awkward silence. "Yeah, I'll pass on that, thanks. I'd rather not be slaughtered in my sleep."
"Good decision, half-breed," Sesshomaru commented.
"I wasn't talking about you, you stupid dog! I was talking about Kagome! That girl is scary sometimes," he muttered the last part. There was a sudden female noise in the background. "Oh…uh, nothing! Just my stupid brother."
"Can we please get back to what I'm asking?" I interrupted. Wait…this is my call! "Inuyasha, I need a favour from you." I looked back at Sesshomaru who was giving me that stare again. "And I don't mean what you think I mean."
"What is it? Make it fast too; I was in the middle of something before you called."
I opened my mouth to ask but I decided I would rather not know. "I need cameras."
"Cameras? And why would you need them? Wait…you don't need it for…you know."
"What? Can you please stop being a pervert for one second? Gods, you're worse than Miroku."
"Well, he is my best friend."
"Anyways, I can't say over the phone. Mind if I come by? I'm guessing you're at Kagome's."
"What? Come by? Wait, no-"
"Okay, great! See you in a few!" I answered back.
"No, don't-"
I hung up the phone before he could protest. "We're going to Kagome's!" I smiled, about to head back down the hall.
But he grabbed my cuffed wrist, his expression: annoyed. Eyes narrowed. Pursed lips. "What are you planning, Rin?" his voice hard and demanding.
I sighed. "I'm planning on finally taking action and capturing this creep with proof. Visual and photographic proof."
"And Kagura?"
I winked my eye at him.
"What does that mean?" he asked.
"It means I have something special in store for her."
"And that would be?"
"…uh…I have yet to figure that out."
Sesshomaru gave me a sigh, and started back down the hall with me behind him. Once outside, the rain poured down on us. His pulled me towards him, preparing to take off. Hell no! Not in this weather!
"Ah, can we take the car?" I asked.
"It'll be faster if we fly," Sesshomaru replied.
"Heh, I am not freezing again. No thanks!" I smiled sweetly.
"Fine."
Once we got into his car, the drive was fast enough, and only because he was going way over the speed limit. I didn't know what was scarier: his flying or his driving? Only because he one: he almost ran me over multiple times; and two: almost dropped me from flying. Well, I guess the flying part would be fine since being handcuffed to him. But still…the heights!
"Turn here," I said.
He stopped at the bottom of a long stair case. Wait…long stair case? Right, Kagome lived at a shrine. Great.
If I wasn't pregnant I wouldn't mind, but since it was raining and I was pregnant, well, the stairs didn't look that satisfying. Good thing Sesshomaru was there! I just hopped on his back.
"Mutant, what are you doing?"
"Giddy up!" I answered.
He signed again, making me giggle.
With one large jump we landed at the top of the stairs. That was much faster than I thought. And that is why people should get a dog demon. So much easier if you're feeling lazy and don't want to climb hills or stairs.
At the top, a large shrine spread out. A tall tree rose above, multiple temple buildings scattered the grounds, and a small home on the other end sat silently on the concrete ground. I held Sesshomaru's hand as we walked to the place. I rang the bell once, waiting for someone to answer. But when the old shoji door opened, I expected Kagome's figure to welcome us. Instead I got a younger looking boy- Kagome's brother- greeting us at the door.
"Uh, hi, can I help you?" the young boy asked.
I kneeled down, trying not to scare the child too much. "Yeah, is Kagome around? I called ahead."
"Yeah, hold on." And he called her name loudly: "KAGOME, SOMEONE IS HERE FOR YOU!"
"OKAY, SOTA!" An answer sounded.
The boy let us into the home and out of the rain. Thankful, I bowed, forcing Sesshomaru to bow too. Never thought I would see that happen.
Moments later an irritated half-demon walked down the stairs with his arms crossed and face more annoyed than Sesshomaru's.
"There better be a good reason why you're here," he said.
"Inuyasha, don't be rude! Rin is my friend and is welcome any time," Kagome added behind him, smiling. "So why are you here, Rin? Inuyasha said something about cameras?"
"Yes, is there somewhere we can talk?"
Kagome lead us into her living room where her younger brother was currently playing a ninja video game. Of course, me being bored, I joined.
I pressed the buttons on the controller, trying to figure out how to control the damn game, and in the meantime, I explained the situation at hand. "I want to install cameras in my locker and hidden ones around the hallways where my locker is."
Inuyasha was the one to ask. "And why would I do this? Is this because of Anonymous?"
"Anonymous?" Kagome interjected. Oh shoot, I guess she didn't know. "Who's that?"
So I spent the last ten minutes explaining to her what was happening. And yes, I was still doing this while playing the video game. Multitasking skills achieved!
"So Kagura is working for Anonymous?" Kagome asked. "I never did like her. Didn't you date her, Sesshomaru?"
He growled in response. "I would rather not speak of it."
"Anyways," I started, "I have something else in store for her…which I haven't thought of yet, but I will."
"Her plans aren't that great," Sesshomaru commented.
I gave him a cold stare then going back to the video game. "As I was saying, I do have a plan on capturing Anonymous. I will need cameras installed in my locker and outside in the hallways to capture the perpetrator red handed."
"And how do you suppose we do that?" Inuyasha interjected. "Don't you think people will be suspicious if I start installing hidden cameras in the hallways and in your locker? I'll get sent to the principal's for sure."
I paused, knowing he was right. Of course when I paused, I wasn't paying attention to the game, making Sota snap.
"Rin, press X!" he said.
"Oh, sorry," I said, immediately pressing what I thought was X without looking.
"What are you doing? The ninja's are swarming us! Quick they're coming from the ceiling above!" he called out. "Press X!"
"I am!" I said, pressing the button. "I'm surrounded by ninjas!"
And I died.
Sota sighed heavily. "You were supposed to press X. You were pressing Y."
"Oh," I said looking under my finger at the Y button. No wonder I was jumping randomly instead of attacking.
I looked back at the screen, eyeing the 2D ninjas when it hit me.
"Ninjas?" I shot out of the chair. "That's it! Ninjas!"
Yeah I know everyone was looking at me like I was on drugs. "Come again?" Inuyasha commented.
"We can use ninja skills to place the cameras into the hallway and my locker. We'll do it in the darkness of the night."
"But this isn't Naruto," Sota said.
"Sota, leave," Kagome told him. "My friends and I have to discuss something privately."
"But I was here-"
"Should I tell Mom that you stole five cookies today?"
He left quickly after.
"Sota has a point though," Kagome continued. "Ninjas don't really exist in this world anymore."
Inuyasha leaned back, closing his eyes. "She's right. Not since the seventeenth century."
"Okay, then we'll make it a 007 operation. We'll call it: Operation Kill the Spider."
"You really aren't good at naming these things either, Mutant," Sesshomaru commented.
"At least I'm doing something," I shot back at him.
"Wait, wait," Inuyasha interrupted. "Are you saying that you want to break into the school at night and be like James Bond?"
I blinked. "Uh, sure. If you want."
"Sweet, I'm so in."
Wow, I never knew Inuyasha was a James Bond fanboy.
"And Kagura?" Kagome asked.
I pointed up a finger, about to announce my idea but lost it. "I got nothing."
Sesshomaru gave a loud sigh.
"Wait! I got it!" I spoke up. "We can hire someone to follow her and tell us everything that's happening."
"Who?"
"Well, I was thinking a ninja but there are none, so…a secret agent will do." I shrugged.
"Plus ninjas are assassins," Inuyasha added.
"Then a ninja would be great," Sesshomaru commented, showing a small smile.
"As much as I would love to see Kagura and her annoying voice gone, that would be illegal to do," I mentioned, narrowing my eyes at Sesshomaru.
"How are we going to get enough money for the spy then?" Kagome asked.
Then I looked at Sesshomaru, followed by Kagome and Inuyasha. Sesshomaru rolled his eyes. "I'll deal with it," he said.
I smiled, giving him a peck on the cheek.
This was going to be perfect.
xXx
In the darkness of the night we went like ninjas…okay that was really cliché, and we weren't ninjas, but I can be creative sometimes, right?
Getting into the school was a lot harder than I was anticipating. There was a night guard, and the gates and doors were locked from the outside. Fortunately, the night guard was shown fast asleep in a chair at the guard's booth at the entrance. There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to grab a sharpie and draw on his face like a five year old kindergartener, or a seventeen year old drunk partier, but we had things to do.
So let this be known that this was fully my plan. My exceeding remarks have come into fruition that I, Rin, do not regret anything that happened that night and I got to live out a dream of dressing in all black and pretending I was in an action movie.
However, there was a problem.
When we got inside the school, with a little help with Inuyasha picking the lock, Sesshomaru pulled me back, and shattered my dreams of walking through the school at a time where I wouldn't be the center of attention.
"You and I will be lookouts," he announced.
I struggled as I watched Kagome and Inuyasha disappear into the dark hallways. Kagome had a smile of apology, mouthing sorry to me, but it didn't matter.
"Why?" I whined, trying to pull him down the hall.
"You are pregnant. I will not have you running through the hallways. Besides, since you are cuffed to me, I refuse to run like a mindless child at recess."
I pouted. "You are such a kill joy, Takahashi."
He leaned down, smirking. "You should be grateful we came, period. We could've stayed safely in the car and waited there. But I decided you can be a child and dress up in your little 'outfit' at least once."
I narrowed my eyes at his teasing. "You… you…"
"You're welcome," he grinned.
I crossed my arms, and looked away from him. For the next few minutes I mumbled under my breath how much of a kill joy he was. Was I being a child? Yes! But when you're pregnant, you just want to do these things before life does a three-sixty and you're up twenty-four/seven.
"Will you just be silent," Sesshomaru spoke. "You're mumbling is an annoyance in my ear."
"Then block out my voice," I replied.
He sighed. "I would but you're constantly already in my head. It's hard to do."
"Then tough! Live with it."
"I have been for the past four months." He growled. "Do you have any idea how much you talk in your sleep?"
"Oh, boo hoo! Go create a lake with your whining."
"A lake? Really? Is that the best you can do?" he scoffed.
I shot my head to his direction, seeing his gold eyes glow in the dark. "At least I'm improving, unlike you!"
"Hn, I don't know if I would say you're improving."
We kept bickering, and didn't even notice Kagome and Inuyasha had returned. I heard someone clear their throat, and Sesshomaru and I both turned towards the sound.
"Geez," Inuyasha crossed his arms, "you two sound like an old married couple."
"Well they are a couple. I wonder what they'll be like when they're older though," Kagome added.
"Anyways, the deed has been done," Inuyasha said. "It's time for the show."
And I smiled wickedly.
