A/N: New chapter! I apologize if it takes a while to put up the next chapter. I just started rereading the books so that I could remember the details and I don't want to write any more until I finish the second book (I just finished the first today)...
I think I am writing this to avoid having to clean my room and finish unpacking my car from my move back home. I mean it's only been 5 months…
Anyway… here is the next chapter…
When Draco and his father returned to the manor, Lucius went straight to his study. Draco made his way to his bedroom to pack his new schoolbooks in his trunk. Most of his things were still in the trunk from last term. Draco hated packing so he just pulled anything he needed out of the trunk as needed and everything else stayed so the repacking process would be much shorter. His mother insisted that Draco pack and unpack his own things and not rely on the house elves for every little thing. It was supposed to teach him responsibility.
There were still a few weeks left until school started again but Draco decided to pull out his schoolbooks from last year so that he could brush up on what he already learned. His father had high expectations of him, and he didn't want to fall behind because he forgot everything he learned last year.
A few hours later, Draco went downstairs to have dinner with his mother. Lucius usually ate in his study. Sometimes it seemed like he lived in there.
When Draco arrived in the dining room, he saw that his mother was not alone. Lucius was sitting at the table pleasantly conversing with Narcissa. Draco silently took his seat across from his mother. Lucius turned his attention toward Draco, "Good evening, Draco. What were you up to this afternoon?" That's odd. He doesn't usually care what I'm doing with my time. "Not much. I was just going through last year's schoolbooks so that I'm ready for the new term." Lucius seemed pleased with Draco's answer. "Good. I don't want your grades to slip. You are a pureblood. You should not be lower than those mudbloods that are somehow allowed into that school. This year will be interesting to say the least and it is a very important year for you. You will no longer be a first year. You will now have to set an example to younger students and prove you're worthy of the Malfoy name."
"Yes, Father. I won't let you down."
It was a bit strange having his father at dinner, but it passed rather uneventfully. Afterwards, Draco returned to his room and pulled out his sketchbook. There was a drawing of a Swedish Shortsnout he had been working on that he was nearly finished with. He decided to work on it for a bit. It had been a long day and drawing was how he liked to relax before bed.
As the night grew darker, Draco decided it was time to go to bed. As he changed for bed, he found a crumpled piece of paper in his pocket. He openid it up to see the page about the basilisk that he had torn out of the book earlier. He really didn't know why he did it. He tucked the page into his new potions book and didn't think about it again for the rest of the summer.
Draco spent the remainder of his summer studying, drawing, or flying. His father had been in an oddly cheery mood and hadn't bothered Draco too much. Before he knew it, it was time to go to King's Cross to head off to Hogwarts.
When Draco boarded the Hogwarts Express, he found an empty compartment. He was soon joined by Crabbe and Goyle. They chatted for a while about their summer holidays until the train made its departure at exactly 11 o'clock.
A few minutes later, Pansy Parkinson came into the compartment with a sly smile, "You will never believe what I just heard. That mudblood, Granger, has been going up and down the train because apparently Potter and his weasel friend missed the train."
"Seriously?" Draco mused, "Precious Potter missing the train. Can't say I'm going to miss having him around."
Pansy gave him a look, "Sadly, I'm sure the school has ways to get students there who miss the train, so he will eventually show up."
Draco gazed out the window. "Still funny though." He watched as the landscape changed from the city to the countryside. Through the duration of the trip various Slytherin students were in and out of the compartment talking about their holidays.
It was dark by the time the train pulled into the station in Hogsmeade. Draco couldn't wait to eat and go to bed. He didn't see Potter at the platform or in the Great Hall. I guess they really did miss the train.
Once the sorting ceremony was over, they were finally able to eat. After the feast, they all went to the dormitories. When Draco entered the second year boys' dorm, he saw his trunk at the foot of his bed and glared at it. Unpacking was the bane of his existence. He decided not to bother with it tonight, so he just grabbed what he needed out of the trunk, changed, and went to bed. He fell asleep almost immediately.
A/N: I know this chapter was also a bit short. I promise I will start making them longer. Let me know what you all think so far!
Love ya!
