Author's Note: This is just a little story that occurred to me out of the blue. Please note that here, I'm sticking to the anime (more or less), and the foursome has already befriended Seiya Yaboshi, the alien from planet Sharaku.
Disclaimer: I do not own Daa!Daa!Daa! (SIGH!)
Chapter 1: The Lamp of Doom
It was a balmy evening, in late summer, in the sleepy town of Heiomachi. Kanata Saionji walked home from school, his bag slung across his shoulders in a careless style. His long bangs were stuck to his forehead with sweat. Basketball practice had run a little late, with the big championship game just around the corner. As captain, Kanata was exhausted, but pleased with the way the team was shaping up. He whistled a low tune as he walked towards his home, nothing more pressing on his mind than a cool and relaxing shower. The busy town streets were far behind him and the sleepy residential district was quiet as families prepared for dinner time. Kanata found solace in the deserted streets, the quiet soothing his soul. It was a foregone conclusion that his home would be in uproar now. His clumsy roommate was probably in danger of burning down the kitchen as she tried to cook dinner, or would be tripping over nothing more substantial than air and screaming fit to wake the dead. Kanata couldn't help but smirk as he pictured Miyu Kozuki running around his home wreaking havoc. And adding to the mayhem was, no doubt, Ruu and Wanya. It had only been a couple of months since the pair had landed at Saionji Temple, from the distant planet Otto, sucked through a dimensional hole. Kanata wasn't entirely sure how that worked, but they were definitely aliens. No creature on earth looked quite like the sitter-pet Wanya and certainly, no earth-baby flew, ever. Kanata shook his head as he remembered their antics and he prayed to Buddha that no one found out their secret. He still panicked when Ruu called him 'Papa' but, he was becoming used to it. Kanata sighed and thought about how wearily normal his life had been before he was landed with unwanted house-guests. But, he couldn't deny that it made life a little less lonely as well, especially with his old man gone to India for training.
The leaves rustled along the road, surrounded by forests. Kanata stopped at the bottom of the long flight of stairs that seemed to go on forever. Reaching the Saionji Temple was not for the faint-hearted. But, for Kanata, who had been born here, it was simply normal. He hitched his bag more securely on his shoulder and began the long climb to his home, humming gibberish underneath his breath. So used was he of his way that he began to climb with his eyes shut, enjoying the sharpening of his other senses in the twilight. It would have been the millionth time that he made this climb in his life except that Kanata, inexplicably, tripped on something suddenly. His quick reflexes prevented him from taking a tumble as he managed to catch his balance by grabbing a hold of the steps above him. There was a curious 'clang' as something came to rest a few steps below where he stood. Taking a moment to catch his breath and ascertain that he was unharmed, Kanata slowly straightened and looked below him, to see what it was that he had tripped over.
For once, he could do nothing but blink. It was a small lamp, like the one you see on TV when depicting Persia or the Middle East, what Kanata mentally dubbed as the 'Genie Lamp'. Well. This was a first. Of course, having encountered flying babies and talking animals, the lamp did not faze Kanata. Not much, anyway. He looked here and there as though to catch a hold of whoever had dropped this thing on the steps of the temple, perfectly timed to trip him up. Seeing no one and nothing, Kanata sighed and looked up to the heavens in a 'why me' gesture we could all probably relate with. He climbed back down and picked up the lamp which was very dirty. Seeing his filthy hands, Kanata grimaced and took out his handkerchief to wipe them. Seeing that he would have to carry the lamp with him, he gave a quick brush over its surface with his hanky. The lamp looked a dull gold in colour, in the approaching dusk. He half expected the lamp to spew forth some coloured smoke and sprout a big-bellied genie ready to grant him three wishes. Kanata chuckled to himself at his ridiculous thoughts and turned to climb back up the stairs.
"Even-song, Kanata-sama."
Kanata nearly had heart-failure and nearly toppled down the stairs once again. As it was, he looked a bit wild, with wide popping eyes, his bag falling down his arm and a small exotic lamp clutched in his hands.
"Yaboshi?" he enquired, weakly.
Standing above him was a familiar blonde-haired alien, in jeans, light yellow T-shirt, blue jacket and a cap.
"I am Seirei, Kanata-sama" said the boy "I have been activated to serve you for the next three days."
"Wh-what?" stammered Kanata, thoroughly freaked out by the robotic monotone. "Cut it out, Yaboshi!"
But the boy remained motionless and simply stared right through him.
"Stop it!"ordered Kanata, once again. "This isn't funny…" he trailed off in shock as the figure simply disappeared before his very eyes.
For a minute, Kanata remained still, wondering whether his tired brain had cooked up the boy he thought he had seen. The next minute, Kanata ran up the stairs as though the hounds of hell itself were after him. The lamp was still clutched tightly in his fist.
