Harry, Ron, and Hermione were studying in the common room. Hermione was helping Ron with the Transfiguration homework that he hadn't had time to do from a week before. Harry was pretending to look at the Half-Blood Prince's Potions book while he was really stealing looks at Ginny, who had recently broken up with Dean because she found out he had planned to curse her broom so he could be Chaser.

As much as he tried to convince himself that he was only protective of her because she was his best mate's sister, he knew it wasn't true. He had a crush on Ginny, one that he had subconsciously known he had, though it took him seeing her with Dean to realize it. He liked her a lot, but he would rather fight an army of demons rather than admit it.

Hermione's voice brought him back to reality, "Harry, what are you doing?"

"Looking through my Potions book", said Harry quickly

Hermione groaned and shook her head, she hated being out performed in Potions, which had been making her very annoying recently.

"Ron, we've got Quidditch practice in 10 minutes, I'm going to head down to the pitch", said Harry, putting the Potions book back in his bag

"Coming", said Ron, getting up from the table

At the same time, Ginny was getting up and leaving the common room. Ron and Harry caught up with her and the three of them started talking. When they got to the pitch, they got their brooms and flew around while waiting for everyone else. When everyone else arrived, they started playing. As Harry circled the pitch looking for the Snitch, he couldn't help but watch Ginny as she flew around the pitch. She looked even more beautiful when she was on a broom.

A flash of gold near the goalpost got Harry's attention. He flattened himself to his broom as he accelerated towards the posts. He nearly hit Coote, but the Beater swerved out of the way and hit a Bludger at Ginny as she streaked towards the goal once again. Harry flew through the center post and caught the Snitch before it flew away.

Harry ended practice, but stayed behind to fly some more. Ginny also stayed, practicing throwing the Quaffle through the hoops more easily while flying at higher speeds. When they came down, they walked off to the locker rooms together. Harry's hand brushed Ginny's and she blushed, her face rivalling her hair. As they walked back to the castle, Harry was thinking about telling her his true feelings about her. It was the perfect time to, they were alone on the grounds with none else there.

"Gin", said Harry, stopping

"Yeah?"

"Umm... I really like you and I was wondering if you'd go out with me?"

"Of course Harry!", exclaimed Ginny, but she quickly calmed herself, "Sorry, it's just, I've always had a crush on you"

Harry silenced her by kissing her. She was completely surprised, but melted into the kiss. When Harry pulled back, he smiled at her and started walking toward the castle again. She caught up and took his hand in hers. Harry smiled at her as they walked back to the castle and back to the common room.

Years later, as they grew old, they never forgot the day Harry asked Ginny out for the first time.
