Chapter 5:

/Lucy's POV/

People who don't experience pain aren't human. Without pain, without sacrifice, we would be nothing. Pain is being alive.

I groggily blinked the darkness away only to be replaced little stars I gazed at them as they littered my vision. Blinking away the last bit of daze I sat up. I resided in a slightly rusted metal bed adorned with worn out beige sheets, I lightly fingered the sheets feeling it's soft yet delicately old texture. I scanned the rest of the room, it showed similarity to the first aid room of a school. The curtain that circled half of my bed was drawn back by two little hands. There stood Happy missing his jet pack, a goofy smile played on his lips.

"Lushyyyyyy you finally woke up!" He exclaimed throwing his tiny arms around my curvy yet thin frame. I gave him a warm smile, the boy was way to young and innocent to be in a place like this.

"Hey Happy" I replied fixing his crooked ears. He bounced off her and grabbed a plate off the near by table.

"Lucy! Do you want some fish?" He said proudly lifting the plate about his head. I internally cringed at the smell I only just seemed to noticed.

"No thanks Happy, although I think you should cook that fish first before you eat it. It's not safe to eat it like that." I asserted crossing my hands over my chest.

"Nonsense! That ruins the flavour!" He gasped then proceeded to munch on the fish. I crinkled my nose in disgust. I recalled the past events that occurred, I gasped when I remembered throwing myself into the fight. I slammed my head into my palms and gripped my hair. This is so stupid how did Grey and I get into this. I let out a loud groan of frustration.

"Care to share?" I whipped my head to the side, a tanned man with broad shoulders leaned against the door way hands buried in his pockets. His biceps protruded out the sleeves of this black shirt and his white scarf hanged lazily around his neck revealing a scar travelling down it. However, the most noticeable attribute of this man was his pink hair. This man was Natsu.

"W-what?" I asked in confusion I could feel the blood rushing to my cheeks at the sight of his rouge appearance. Natsu let out a chuckle and moved to sit in at the end of my rickety bed.

"The groan, what's on your mind?" He questioned crossing his arms over his chest and tilting his head. I raised an eye brow at his sudden interest in my thoughts.

"I think you know what's on my mind" I grumbled adverting my glaze in an attempt to calm my flaming cheeks. His lips pulled taunt into a straight line. The bed shook as Natsu's weight left the bed. He sauntered towards the door, as he reached the threshold he looked back.

"Come find me when your ready." He said blankly and turned the corner. I let out a sigh before climbing out of bed to see the damage in the mirror. I took in my disheveled appearance. My hair stood wildly at all angles and my eyes bags dipped dangerously low. I analysed the purple bruise at the corner of my jaw I flinched as my fingers grazed it. I felt a throbbing at the back of my head, I lightly probed the back of my head to locate where one of the offenders had made impact. I flinched again when I found the tender spot just above the nape of my neck. I washed all my make up off in the basin below the mirror and made an attempt to detangle my hair with my fingers. Feeling accomplished with my work I turned towards Happy who was picking at his teeth with the fish's bone.

"Happy do you know where Natsu would be?"

"I dunno. You'll have to have a wander around." Happy shrugged "See you later Lucy I'm going to find Charle" He pranced out the room with hearts around his eyes.

I let out a sigh and made my way out the room. I meandered aimlessly through the halls, people walked briskly passed her not sparing a glance. The hall were painted a plain white and the floors were solid concrete. Frequently I would pass large metal doors that loomed over me and pass by windows that were barricaded by wooden boards. As I neared the end of the twisting hall I came across a less intimidating door. The door was made with heavy frosted glass the handle set was carved with curls and painted gold. I tugged in the handle, supprised that it was unlocked.

Stepping inside I gasped in awe. It was a garden. All types of flowers were placed strategically around the garden a green frosted glass encased the flowers hiding them from the world. I wandered around appreciating the beautiful moment. I grazed my fingers over the midnight blue roses, Grey immediately sprang to my mind. Why wasn't he there when I woke up? Why hadn't he come to see me? Even Natsu made an effort. I let my hand travel down the flower's stalk, pricking my finger on it's sharp defences. I let out a yelp before sticking the injured finger in my mouth.

"There's no way to hold something truely beautiful; not without consequences". I whirled around and met the gaze of Natsu. Our faces were dangerously close. I let my finger fall my my side as Natsu took a set back.

"What's that suppose to mean?" I questioned cocking my head to the side. He shook his head before walking deeper into the garden of flowers. I trailed behind him occasionally stopping to admire a bundle of petals. Eventually je stopped and turned around making eye contact with me. His onyx eyes sealed shut showing full control. We stood there is awkward silence until I couldn't bear it. "Where's Grey?" I demanded clenching my fists.

"Why are you and Grey so attached to each other?" He asked, his lips still pulled taught. I looked at him dumbly.

"Because we only have each other, we are family" I pursed my lips adverting my glaze. Natsu stepped forward taking my chin between his thumb and index finger forcibly moving my head to meet his gaze.

"There is no family here." He muttered. He then turned my face to the left analysing the bruise inflicted. I moved his hand away and took a step back. "I sent Grey to the Dark Room, he'll be there for the next 3 days." I furrowed my brows.

"What's the dark room?" I questioned, I had an inkling it wasn't good. He turned around and continued to walk. I could feel the range swell up in side me. "NATSU!" I yelled. He stopped but didn't turn around. "This isn't like you! The Natsu I knew was caring and always looked out for us, what happened Natsu please tell me." I urged putting a hand on his toned back. He stiffened.

"You don't know me Lucy" he shrugged my hand off his back. Feeling dejected I went to grab for his hand. He noticed and grabbed my wrist. He fierse grip licked my skin like fire, we stood there for a minute, his hand tightening and loosening as if he was internally battling. He whirled us around until we were face to face.

"Natsu don't hide from me, let me help you, Grey and I, we'll always be by your side. It doesn't gave to be lik-" I was silenced by a sharp slap to my cheek. I stood there, wide eyed. He release the fiery grip on my wrist.

"Follow me" Natsu grumbled, no hint of remorse on his face. Wordlessly I followed behind Natsu. The tension was so thick no knife would cut it, as we left the building I cringed as the light blinded me, blinking I took in the area around me. 4 large buildings, an assortment of styles, loomed in each cardinal direction. An arena was sunken into the ground serving as a centre point for all the buildings. A large 45 feet tall wall made entirely of concrete bordered the facility.

We walked around the arena to a building that resembled a college dormitory. We wordlessly entered the building from the main door, chatter vanished as we stepped into the room, eyes snapped to our direction, many people littered out the room. Half the room was split into a dining hall and the other seemed to be a communal lounge. As we walked past the masses in the room I heard the small mumbles saying director, they were acknowledging Natsu. I felt everyones stares bore into my back, many synchronised my face analysing ever detail.

We turned left and walked down a corridor, the walls were painted white and the doors were painted an awful shade of orange. Each door had a cork board on it, pinned to it was a list of names, daily messages and important reminders. He stopped in front of a door nearing the end of the hall where a half pace staircase resided. We stood there in awkward silence, Natsu's lips opened before closing again. He put a hand in my shoulder before walking back in the direction I came.

I let out a sigh, I analysed the cork board in from of me. There were the normal messages pinned against it like; games night 10pm and wake up 6am. However, a familiar list caught my eye, a lower class bounty list. I felt a pang in my chest as I realised what this place was, this facility directed was for assassins. But how, how could they have figured out Grey and I were yin and yang, and if they knew that why haven't they killed us yet, we have a bounty on our heads worth 25 million. I felt my teeth draw blood from my lip. I slowly let go of it it avoid gnawing it off.

"You must be Lucy!" I whipped around to see a small blue haired girl, the one I had seen in the training room. I furrowed my brows and gave a questioning glace.

"I'm levy, the director told me you would be joining us." She said with a kind smile. She took out a pen and scribbled my Lucy onto the notepad on the cork board. I noticed 5 more names above mine Cana Alberona, Wendy and Charle Marvell, Lisanna Strauss and Levy McGarden.

"What's your last name Lucy?" Levy questioned.

"It's just Lucy" I said with a warm smile. Levy nodded with uncertainty and pocketed the pen. Opening the door she bounced inside. Th room managed to house 3 bunk beds. The rickety sliding doors were open revealing the draws that were I assumed housed their belongings. Levy grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the bunk that squished tight to the wall containing a window.

"Lu, this is our bunk the bottom is yours." Levy said hoisting herself onto the top bunk with her hands. "Lu you don't mind if I call you Lu right?" Said Levy with a goofy smile.

"Of course I don't mind," I bit my lip "Levy what is going on?" Her smile was immediately replaced by a frown.

"The director didn't tell you?" She furrowed her brow "I thought he would have considering how he's been treating you." I bit my lip harder, he's been an absolute dick to me.

"What are you talking about Levy?"

"I'm talking about how the director personally carried you to the first aid!" She said stressing the personally carried. "He would never do that even though he did hit you, and he sent your boyfriend to the Dark Room I heard it was for 3 days" I was getting tired of hearing about this stupid Dark Room.

"What is the Dark Room?" Levy adverted her gaze " Levy please tell me" I pressured.

"The Dark Room is what the name says it is, the room cuts off your senses, you cannot see or hear anything. It's complete silence and darkness. Sometimes they administer gas to cause pain and enhance the hallucinations." She fiddles with her hands "It's the worst kind of punishment. The isolation, the hunger, it's unbearable." The thought of Grey trapped inside that room made me shiver, but I knew Grey could handle it. Grey can handle anything. A pregnant silence fell over us.

"He's not my boyfriend" I muttered. We made eye contact and fell into a fit of giggles. She gave me a hand getting up to her bunk, we talked for hours, we both clicked into place with each other. The conversation occasional turned from light hearted to serious when I would ask a question about this place. From Levy I gathered, people that were brought here had criminal or dangerous pasts, apparently those kind of people held the most potential, the most potential to be assassins. This place was called Fairy Tail. Cute name despite the facility's hostile appearance. Here they worked under the government, Fairy tail would take on jobs that they couldn't handle or seemed unethical.

Later that night I met Cana who seemed to be constantly drunk, Lisanna seemed to bright and kind to be in a place like this and lastly innocent Wendy and her adopted sister Charle. They both only looked to be around 12. I recognised Charle's name as Happy told her he was pursuing her. I lied in bed staring out the small window that gave view of the arena and the twinkling stars above it fighting the what if's and assumptions that popped into my head. I let sleep overcome me.
