Chapter 7:
/Lucy's POV/
My vision blurred as I fell to the ground, a heavyweight on my side. I blinked feeling the absence of the bullet. My nose tickled as I went to bat whatever it was away. My fingers caught on a tangled knot I glanced down and saw Natsu, his salmon hair stained red by the graze of a bullet on his forehead.
/Natsu's POV/
I felt a fiery burn against my forehead as the bullet grazed me, I let Lucy take the impact of the fall as I threw us to the ground. I propped myself up onto my elbows, Lucy let out a sigh of relief as I relieved some of the pressure off her. Her eyes bore into mine filled with moisture. She lifted her hand, her once manicured fingers, pristine white, now chipped and murky. She ghosted her fingers over the bullet graze I flinched when her fingertips hovered to close. Shaking my head I stood up leaving Lucy on the floor to recover from the sudden shock. I walked up to Laxus despite his unnerved appearance I could see the fear shrouded in his eyes.
"What the fuck was that?" I said shoving Laxus chest.
"That's none of you business salamander" adverting his eyes and crossing his arms over his chest. "I had it under control"
"Had it under control my ass! You shot a goddamn bullet at the girl" I raged shoving him again.
"The bitch had it comin' she should have kept her mouth shut" he snapped back straightening his posture.
"That's not an excuse" I fumed
"Hah! That's rich coming from you"
"She was out of line"
"The only thing out of line is your temper." My fist collided with his jaw, my body moving on its own.
"What the fuck!" He yelled spitting out a clot of blood. I throw another attack, he stumbles back narrowly avoiding my left hook. Red clouds my vision. Laxus throws a jab followed by a cross, I block his attack and maneuver my leg towards his diaphragm effectively pushing him back. He gasps as the wind knocks out of him. Gritting his teeth he runs towards me, letting out a horsed battle cry raising his fist. Only to be stopped by a flash of red hair.
"What is going on here?" The redhead boomed.
"E-Erza?" Laxus stutters.
/Lucy POV/
I run my fingers through Grey's greasy hair, he desperately needs a shower. He lets out a soft hum of appreciation. I let my head roll back onto the cool bricks of the dormitories feeling the sun lick my face. How long had it been since we could enjoy these small moments? Grey shifts in my lap turning toward my abdomen to shield his eyes from the midday sun. I let out a small chuckle as his bangs tickled the sensitive skin that was my stomach. I let out a sigh playing with the curls at the nape of this neck. I lost count of the time we had sat there in silence, we didn't need to speak, feeling each other's presence was enough for us. His breath evened signally he had drifted off. His sleeping face never changed since we were children, his mouth was slightly parted and his eyebrows were scrunched, his nose twitched occasionally. His skin was looked like marble, not a visible pore. His jaw was square and well defined, Grey looks as if he was a model, all-girls fawn over him except me. Grey is my brother, nothing more, nothing less.
His nose crinkled as if he smelt something foul, "not the echidna" he muttered. I let out a small chuckle recalling the time I decided to bake our pet echidna into a cake. A flash of pink pulled me out of my thoughts. Natsu. He sat on the supporting beams of the watchtower his legs swinging with the wind looking nowhere in particular lost in thought. His signature pink hair rests against his neck. I recalled the time Natsu once sported long hair, sticking up in all directions after he returned from being MIA for a year. Thinking back it must have been because of Fairy Tail. I let out a small giggle remembering when Grey and I had pinned down Natsu to get Cancer to cut his hair without trying him to make a getaway. His laughter that day was so pure, what happened to him?
He catches my stare, feeling my cheeks heat up I adverted my gaze to Grey, counting the random freckles that littered his face. Feeling Natus's eyes bore into me, I take a quick look through my lashes, I felt my face grow 50 shades darker as I notice he is still looking. I let out a huff and meet his eyes, he cocks his head to the side and curls his lips into a bemused smile. I mouth what after pinching my eyebrows. His smile broadens resembling a Cheshire grin as he sticks out his tongue at me. I scrunch my nose in disfavour before returning the act. He throws his head back I faintly hear his laughter, it been long since I had last heard it. We continue to entertain each other by contorting our face in attempts to get a rise out of each other. A sudden gust of wind causes Natsu to grasp for more leverage, his scarf unravels and drifts into my direction I reach out as far as I can without disturbing Grey and grasp the tassels of the white scaly scarf. Looking up I see a wave relief wash over Natsu's face, I wave the scarf in the air sending him a wink.
He attempts to wink back resulting in a weird scrunched up contortion of his face. I let out a loud snort jerking my body and accidentally bump Grey's head. He lets out a moan of distaste as he snuggles deeper into my stomach I pet his head a few times in an attempt to soothe him. Ever since he got released from the Dark Room sleep hasn't been coming to him as easily, he won't talk to me about it. I look up and see Nastu missing, I let out a sigh. I still hold hope that maybe the old Natsu is still in there.
/Levy's POV/
I wandered around the halls looking for Lu Chan, I got assigned a job and I wanted to let her know I'll be gone for a while but Grey keeps whisking her away. I let out a loud groan after walking around Fairy Tail for the 3rd time. Where could Grey be hiding her? I run into a squishy wall, blinking I noticed the wall was moving steadily. Moving my head up I saw a tuff of pink. Natsu. I hastily took a few steps back lowering my gaze.
"Sorry director, sir, I didn't see you there," I mumbled before beginning to turn on my heels.
"Wait" I turn to see Natsu with an unreadable expression, he hands me a box. I give him a look of confusion. "Give that to Lucy." I momentarily examine the box, it was embroidered with gold and silver, the two threads intertwined seamlessly. I let out a soft sigh.
"I would but I have no idea where Lu is and I don't have any more time to look for her since I'm leaving for a job in half an hour," I explained.
"She's behind the dorms near the watchtower," he says before he walks briskly away not sparing me a glance. How could Natsu know where Lucy was?
I made my way towards the back of the dorms pushing open the worn down door, around the corner I see Grey and Lucy fast asleep under the sun, Grey was curled into Lucy's lap while Lucy rested against the wall. I felt a small smile creep onto my lips, before letting it drop remembering that they had a "brother-sister relationship". I let out a snort. I guess I'll leave a note in our room about my departure.
/Lucy's POV/
The moon glistened among the stars dancing in the night when I returned to my room. All the girls were fast asleep snoring softly, I looked up to Levy's bed and surprisingly wasn't there. I make my way towards my bed noticing my box full of letters to my mother. How did this get here? I carefully examined the box hoping for a note of some sort explanation for the reason for its presence.
On the bottom of the box, there was a note beautifully written. I peel it off the box analysing it.
Hey Lu!
Going on a job for a couple of days! I'll be back soon don't miss me much 'kay?
~ Levy
P.s. The director told me to give you this box. Strange huh?
I folded the note neatly and slid it under my pillow. So Natsu did this? Why would he? I shake my head and take a deep breath. No use wondering about it, that man is full of mysteries.
I slid into my sheets and gaze out the window tracing the constellations in the sky. There stood Pisces and Aries. Just as sleep was about to overcome me I heard a tap on my window. It's probably a bird. I snuggle deeper into my blankets seeking warmth. Tap tap. I snap upwards, my heart lurching from my chest. Natsu. I glare at him for scaring him, his lips turn upwards slightly. He points towards the watchtower. I nod getting the memo. I quickly move out of bed grabbing my blanket and slipping on my grey runners. I slither out the room careful not to disturb any of my roommates. I creep down the corridor towards the back door.
The cool wind nipped my nose as I stepped outside, I wrap the blanket around my shivering body tighter, I hastily made my way towards the tower, looking up I saw Natsu once again sitting on the beams. I fasten my blanket to the beam immediately missing its protection from the elements. Natsu looked down at me motioning me to come up to him. I huffed and began the strenuous climb.
I shimmed myself up the vertical beam occasionally usually the horizontal beams to give me a boost. As I reached his level, I swung my legs onto the horizontal beam and shift my weight onto it. I slide my way across the wooden appendage to Natsu.
"Nice skills you got there spider monkey" he teased. I huffed crossing my arms. On the bright side, the climb has temporarily warmed me up.
"You better have a good reason for calling me out here." I puffed regulating my breath. He just hummed and started into the night sky. "You know, your bipolar is giving my whiplash."
"What's that suppose to mean?"
"Well, one minute you're like you don't know me lucy and the next you're all knight in shining armour saving me from the evil witch."
"I'm assuming the witch is laxus?
"Correct"
He let out a hum. "I prefer the dragon"
"A dragon?"
"Yeah, a dragon."
"Why?"
"Because the dragon doesn't always have to be the good guy."
"So you want to be the bad guy, the villain?"
"Not per se, some times you have to do bad things to protect the things you love"
A thick silence fell over us, what did he mean by that? I felt the cold once again on my bones.
"Cold?"
"Yeah"
"Come on then," he said jumping down from each horizontal beam using only his hands. Each time he caught it I could feel the tower shake. I cringed as I imagined what would happen if the tower broke from Natsu's heavyweight. I look down in awe as Natsu reached the bottom. He looked up expectingly. He held out his both his arms in a weird u shape. I creased my eyebrows cocking my head. He gave me an annoyed look.
"We don't have all day" he yelled. I realised what he meant. He wanted me to jump.
"What if you don't catch me?" I yelled back over the wind that began to pick up.
"You die," he said plainly. I let out a sigh. Well at least then I will be out of this hell hole.
I slowly loosened my grip getting gravity pull me towards the earth. I landed swiftly in Natsu's arms.
"God your heavy" he groaned adjusting his grip to place me on the ground. I slapped his shoulder.
"I am not you fat pig" I fumed crossing my arms. Natsu began to walk towards the training building before he could hear my defence, I trailed next to him. After entering the building we arrived in a small room with various weapons attached to the wall. I nervously bit my lip.
"What are we doing here?" Natsu grabbed a simple Glock 22 and walked up to me. He mimicked Laxus' stance and pointed the gun at my head.
"Why did you let that happen?" He asked in a small voice. I shivered. What is he trying to do?
"I - I don't know Natsu" I whispered, "I didn't think he would shoot"
"Hasn't it sunk in? This is a fairy tail. A home full of murders. Of course, he would have shot, your just lucky I was there or you would have been dead."
"Why do you care?" I muttered. He sighed, he grabbed my hand and placed the gun in it positioning it towards him. He crossed his arm over his body and placed his wrist against my own.
"Keep this arm strong" he grabs the handgun and with his other hand turning it away from himself and effectively turning it against myself. A simple manoeuvre.
"You try," he said pointing the gun at me once again. I swiftly manoeuvre, it was a reflex engraved into me.
"Hmm not bad. Have you handled guns before?"
"Er, yeah" I realised how unconvincing that sounded, "I mean Gray and I took a few weapons and self-defence classes." Natsu let out a thoughtful hum.
"Gray has potential" he sure does, witness it on a daily first hand. "He could probably become a lieutenant maybe even a general in his time here."
"We won't be staying around long enough for him to be able to" I muttered.
"Let me tell you something Luce, as soon as you step foot on these grounds you bound to fairy tail. For life. There is no escape." He said darkly putting the gun back on its stand.
"You can't keep us here forever"
"It's not my choice to make" we stood in uncomfortable silence.
"I never thanked you for saving me" I stepped closer. "Thank you, Natsu"
"What! You met up with Natsu!" Gray shouted.
"Yes," I hissed, "Keep your voice". I warily glanced at the multiple people who we caught their attention. Thank god they don't know their director's real name.
"What happened?" He whispers. I explained the events that occurred and Gray listened attentively.
"You should try not to involved yourself with that man, he's the one who got us into this mess." Gray lectured, I picked at my steamed salmon. It tasted like hospital food.
"I know, it's just." I creased my brows, "I think the Natsu we know is still there ya know? We've been friends with him for years we can't lose hope."
"For all, we know that's a lie, Lucy." He sighed "Any way we have to figure out a way to get out of here."
"I know, tonight meet me behind the dorms and we can figure something out" I gave Gray's hand a gentle squeeze. He responded with a soft smile before groaning.
"This salmon is terrible." He moaned.
"Wow, rude!"
A blue blob of hair suddenly appeared. He snatched Gray's salmon and started munching on it furiously. He let out a chuckle and ruffling the little boy's hair.
"I'm going to be late for training I'll see you later, 'kay?" I said standing up.
"Lushyyy are you going to eat your fish?" He looked longly at the dry salmon.
"Knock your self out." He cheered moving my place of salmon towards him.
I walked out of the cafeteria and made my way out of the dorms. I notice a commotion near the east wall where the admin building is. Curiously I made my way towards them. I pushed mine was through the crowd gasping upon the sight.
"Levy!"
AN:/ Sorry for the cliff hanger *sweat drop* I'll be sure to post the next chapter soon. This is just the beginning of NaLu, it'll get intense soon.
