He sat down at the table and let the coldness of the seat attack his legs. His brown hair was almost too long to be called short as he wrapped it around his fingers, and he glared up at the woman sitting opposite him.
"What the fuck do you want?" Annie asked, looking up from twisting her ring on her finger.
Eren grinned and propped his head up with his elbows "nothin', just bored"
She looked back at her hand and twisted her ring again "Go away, then"
He spun on the prison-like seat, having it come to an abrupt stop when it couldn't anymore and he turned the other way until the same thing happened. A small squeak happened each time he turned, and he was pretty sure some other kids which were sitting near him were thinking of beating him up again.
The room was stuffy, probably with the tension that was coming from Annie's eyes and whoever else wanted to make him stop the turning and noise, but then the fact of that there were no windows allowed to be open and the sun was shining into his eyes.
Half of the kids here were in for anger problems, and Eren could relate, while some were in for other things like schizophrenia or suicide attempts. He'd only been here for a few weeks, but he practically knew who and who not to mess with and for what reasons. Not saying that he doesn't mess with people he shouldn't, his anger issues can be blamed for that, but he ends up getting his ass beat at least twice a week.
"I fucking hate it here!" He groaned, no letting his head rest in his arms "I don't need to be in a mental hospital"
He looked up at Annie, who kept her gaze at her twisting ring but did look up after a moment or so. They stared at each other until she looked back at her ring.
"Historia said you almost broke Jean's nose"
"Not my fault" The boy defended, holding up his hands as if he was being aimed at "He stuck his stupid horse face into my face"
"Whatever"
He had stopped turning in his seat, instead began to watch as the nurses walked around, entering and exiting Annie's room. Her belongings sat outside, waiting to be collected by family members or taken out by her herself. Every week someone left or someone joined, and Eren was half expecting to go actual crazy if he wasn't let out soon. So many people who think they could beat him up because he was the skinny, hot headed kid; they were right, they could, but Eren would end up causing a large scene in the middle of the day where multiple nurses had to come and break it up.
It was free time at the moment, the best time of the day (other than breakfast), and Eren had no idea what the hell to do. He could read a book but books are boring; he was never actually one for books. Anyway, most of them are those cheap, girly slumber party ones which he was quite certain that only the girliest of girls would read. No chance Eren would ever pick one of those up.
The days were the same, starting with breakfast, then checkups, then therapy, then lunch, then activities, then free time, then group talking, then lunch, and then if you were lucky then you could go outside with the nurses for a walk around the hospital. He always went on those, it felt like freedom to what was now his life. That was something he always wondered about. Why was freedom such a big thing to him? Everyone would say he never liked being cooped up within his house and ever since his friend, Armin, introduced him to stories about explorers he'd always wanted to become one or something similar. He wanted to explore more of the world, but he ended up here in a mental hospital, stuck in his own head with all this anger which he couldn't seem to get rid of.
The days merged into one after a few nights in the hospital, nothing really changed, so he was excited to see what happens when Annie leaves. If she leaves then half his day activities would be missing. His buddy which he would often fight with wouldn't be there, then maybe he could finally leave, once the nurses realise that he doesn't have any anger issues and it's just other people.
"Eren" He perked up at his name and came face to face with one of the nurses "Are you okay for a roommate?"
Roommates. The other bed in his room had been isolated for a few days, and Eren was not happy to give that up. Everyone else was always such a dick or they always fought.
"No" He said despite knowing that he would be getting one. "I don't want one"
"Well, you have to, " The nurse said, a forced smile on their lips "they'll be here this evening, might want to tidy up your stuff"
They turned and walked away after they patted his shoulder; which Eren was tempted to grab their arm but he did want to go for a walk later so he stayed put. He looked over at Annie and she smirked.
"Shut up."
She said nothing and stood up, heading towards her room. That was the last time they talked during her stay as she left a few hours later; Eren was technically alone. Sure, he could actually try and meet the other kids who were here with him, but he'd either fight them or they'd have a panic attack and he'd get angry. Sometimes the well enough ones would get on good terms with him, but for that to happen they actually have to be sane enough to not be in here and so they're always gone a few days later.
The shared, half filled room which he inhabited during his stay wasn't that much of a mess; at least on Eren's terms. His belongings were strewn everywhere on his side of the room, despite how many times the nurses have asked him to tidy up and in the end they would have to sort it out. He shrugged, deciding that it wouldn't be that bad to tidy and began to pick a few items off the ground.
The room consisted of two beds, both mirroring each other on opposite sides of the room, around 10 metres apart. A dresser which acted as a bedside table sat beside it and a mirror hung above that. Both sides had a window nailed shut and sheeted with plaster above the bed. Other than his belongings, that was practically it.
He had his dinner, went for a walk with the other kids and returned to his room without fighting anyone. The other side was still empty, but now it had a few bags of clothes and other items opposite the bed. He thought nothing of it and fell onto his bed with a groan.
Eren was tired, and any emotions which could pull him out of this state would only urge it on. There was no desire to get back up or at least move to a more comfortable position. His legs were half off the bed while his back turned at an angle which would surely make him stiff in the morning, an arm also draped over his eyes .It was quiet, only his steady and calm breathing and the shouts from outside could reach his ears, so he was calm. The day hadn't been that bad, so he wandered off in his own head for a bit; not quite asleep but almost there.
It was serene until someone called for him.
"Eren" He threw his arm off of his face and let the light blind him, he didn't hear the door open. "Sorry, I need you to meet someone"
Once he got a grasp on what he was seeing, he squinted at the nurse and frowned "Why?"
He looked next to her and saw a smaller man. Oh, roommates. He looked back over at the bags on the other side of the room and furrowed his eyebrows. Who even keeps their stuff in bags? Eren's suitcase was under his bed and that was what his stuff came in.
Looking back at the people in the room, he silently groaned and put on a fake, yet irritated smile.
"Fine, I'm not leaving, though"
She smiled, ushering whoever his new roomie was into the room "That's okay, it's better to meet them in private"
The nurse told him to go over to his side of the room, following him.
Eren sat up and and his legs fully on the bed, he ran a hand through his hair and actually gave an effort to look at the new kid. Black, curtain hair and eyes which he couldn't pinpoint the colour of at this distance, but he knew they were looking at him with annoyance. Well, he was probably not just looking at him with annoyance, he was probably just agitated with this whole mental hospital thing. Eren felt the same when he first came and he still does, but the stone-cold, unforgiving vibe that this kid was giving off disturbed Eren greatly. They turned around and looked over at their side of the room, to the bags with his belongings, exhaled with force (chuckled, maybe?), and look over at Eren's side.
"Alright" The nurse clasped her hands and put on a smile "Have fun, I'll be close if you need me, boys"
She left, and left the boys alone. Eren watched as the new kid wandered over to his bags and carefully eyed what's inside.
"Why do you act like there's something threatening in there?" Eren asked, catching his attention and pointing to the bags. They rolled their eyes and looked back at their bags. "I'm Eren, by the way!" He jumped off the bed and walked a few steps towards him. They didn't give him any notice.
Eren growled, there was no point talking if he wasn't going to speak.
"Hey, if you're gonna stay silent then at least notice my existence," He said, walking closer to him "you don't have to speak-"
"-Levi"
"What?" Eren tilted his head, not sure if they spoke or just mumbled some curse word.
"The name's Levi," He said, now looking at Eren.
"Levi?"
"Yes, that is what I just said."
"Yeah, I know, you don't need to act so moody with me," Eren looked at his height and compared himself with Levi "I'm probably older than you when you notice how tall you are."
Levi stopped what he was doing and snapped his head up to Eren. They were around 5 feet apart, but it was still a short enough distance for one of them to lunge at the other. Both of them stayed like that for another few seconds until Levi looked back at the bags and knelt down to see what was actually in them.
"Y'know the staff would've looked through all of that shit anyway, right? They're probably gonna come back and check your vital-"
"They already have." Levi stated, not taking his eyes off the bags and kept rummaging through them "Stop talking"
Eren looked at this kid with disbelief, he just waltzed on in here and now thinks he can tell Eren what to do. Levi was tiny, and Eren was at least half a foot taller than him, he could easily beat him up. Eren had tried acting nice, he had tried not to get angry, but the way how this kid was acting like a douche, it wasn't going to last. Eren ran towards him as fast as he could within that short distance, preparing to tackle him, but found himself with pain surging through his body as he hit the wall, hands around his throat and a knee pressing harshly into his stomach.
"Don't. Fucking. Do. That" Levi hissed, grabbing the arm which was swinging towards him and slamming that into the wall as well.
"Owowowowow- Okay! Okay!" Eren thrashed his legs in an attempt to get out of the grip, more uncomfortable than painful. "Calm the fuck down- ah!"
Levi squeezed harder around his neck and gave Eren one of the most disgusted looks he had ever seen in his life.
"Fucking brat." Levi said as he let Eren go and made his way to the bed, now running his hands along the frame as if he hadnt just almost murdered Eren. "Stay on your own fucking side, because i'm assuming that we have sides and if there isnt then there is now."
Eren rubbed where Levi had his hands around his throat and slumped his shoulders. Truthfully, Eren had a little fear of this kid now. Could you even call him a kid? He was like a monster, but one people would look up to if he didn't try and strangle you every time you see him. Eren was the monster that people should fear.
Eren fell back onto his own mess of a bed and chuckled "Yeah, yeah, whatever". A moment of silence fell between the two before Eren piped up again "How old are you?"
"Sixteen." Levi answered and stuck his hand under the bed before bringing it back up and eyeing his hand "Tch."
"So am I, you look fourteen"
"I fucking know"
They didn't really speak the rest of the night, other than Eren's frequent questions about what Levi was doing at that moment in time and Levi telling him to shut up when he sighed. Yep, they were going to get along just fine. Not.
