The Hex Series Part Four
So where is it?" Thorn asked Quinn. They were both in the backseat of their limo, sitting on the faux leather seats looking for the Misfit museum. Quinn shrugged in answer before returning to his phone looking for the address. Thorn sighed, before leaning back into the cool leather, rubbing her temples. Quinn knocked on the tempered glass divider, the black glass rolled down with a mechanical whir.
"Here, punch this address into your GPS." Quinn said as he told him the address.
"With the traffic, it'll be about twenty minutes." The driver said.
About twenty minutes later they pulled into a residential neighborhood, the limo went straight for a few minutes before pulling into a driveway. It was a single home, with little makeshift sign that read 'Misfit Museum.'
"This doesn't look shady at all." Thorn muttered as she opened her door. Thorn looked at Quinn, excitement was all over his face as he went straight to the front door. "Quinn, wait up!" Thorn hollered after him. After Thorn caught up to Quinn and giving him a dirty look. Thorn knocked on the front door. The gray wooden door, opened with a groan, a short little man with glasses answered.
"Yes?" he asked the duo.
"We're here to see the Misfit Museum." Thorn said as she pointed at the sign with her thumb.
"Oh, lovely. That'll be five dollars." The man said as he held out his hand expectantly. Thorn dug in her jeans for the money before peeling off a five from the wad and placing it in the man's hand. "From the both of you." The man said.
"I don't have any money." Quinn said as he looked at Thorn. Thorn sighed before digging back into her jeans pocket and pulling out another five and placing it onto the man's hand.
"Wonderful." the man smiled. "Follow me, watch your step." The man hollered over his shoulder as he turned around and went into the interior the house. "You may call me Steve." Steve said as he held out his hand in greeting.
"I'm Thorn and this here is my little brother Quinn." Thorn said shaking Steve's hand.
"The collection is in the basement." Steve said, as the Thorn and Quinn followed him towards the basement. They walked down the basement steps, a pale yellow light illuminated the rickety steps.
"In this section over here, we have some original concert stubs, over there we have one of Doyle's original handmade guitars. And this here's my pride and joy." Steve said.
In the center of the museum was a red handkerchief. "This here, handkerchief was used once to wipe down Glenn Danzig's face during a live show." Steve babbled.
Thorn mentally rolled her eyes. But she could see the glow of excitement on Quinn's face that he was truly enjoying this. Thorn and Quinn stayed for another twenty minutes, before they headed outside and towards their limo. The chauffeur opened Thorn's door she smiled at him showing her fangs. He gulped and went to the driver's seat.
"Where to next?" the driver asked as the tempered glass rolled down once more.
"The Hollywood walk of fame." Thorn answered from the backseat. The driver nodded before he rolled up the divider again. They rode in silence as Quinn had his earbuds in no doubt listening to The Misfits. The limo stopped at their destination.
"Meet us back here in an hour." Thorn told the driver as her and Quinn got out.
"Where's Dusk and Luna?" Quinn wondered aloud.
"They said they would meet us at the Hollywood Burger." Thorn answered. Thorn and Quinn walked a few minutes before they spotted the restaurant and their sisters.
"Dusk! Luna!" Quinn shouted.
"Not so loud, little brother we're incognito." Luna told him as she gave him a smile and a hug.
"Dusk, you look much better than you did yesterday." Quinn stated matter of factly as he gave her a hug.
Dusk smirked, "yeah, a goodnight's sleep and some aspirin make all the difference."
"So." Luna began. "How was the museum?"
"You should've seen the guitar the guy had, it was wicked awesome." Quinn chattered away with Luna.
Dusk turned to Thorn, "so how was it really?"
"A word? Awful, but Quinn enjoyed it so I guess that's all that matters." Thorn replied.
The quartet mixed with the sea of people as they went towards Kiss's star. Dusk and Luna kneeled down on either side of the star as Thorn took a picture of them on her phone.
After they each got a picture with the star, they walked on towards Alice Cooper's star just like before they took a picture. A tall and buff man, with leather pants, a black shirt, and a ripped leather jacket walked down the walk of fame, his face ripped to shreds with shiny metal chrome peeked out through the wounds, Thorn didn't recognize him, but Quinn immediately did and he ran towards him.
"Quinn! Stop!" Thorn shouted after him.
When the trio, finally managed to catch up to him Quinn was beaming with excitement and stood next to the man. "Dusk, can you take my picture with him?" Quinn asked as he handed Dusk his phone.
"Sure." Dusk replied.
"I must find John Connor." The man said with an accent.
"He went that way," Quinn replied pointing behind him.
The man brushed past him towards the direction Quinn indicated.
"Quinn, who was that?" Thorn asked him.
"Seriously Thorn? That was The Terminator." Luna explained to her.
"Duh." Dusk said smirking.
"Anybody else hungry?" Thorn asked the group.
"I could eat." Luna replied.
"Ditto." Dusk said.
"Me three." Quinn said.
The group made their way back to Hollywood Burger, it almost looked like the inside of a Burger King. They stood in line. Dusk, Thorn and Luna ordered salads, while Quinn had a double cheeseburger with a chocolate shake.
"Guys, check your email. I just got an email saying somebody won our Meet the Hex Girl's Sweepstakes. We are supposed to meet them and have dinner at the Vincent Van Ghoul mansion while he shows an old horror movie of his." Thorn said
Dusk and Luna pulled out their phones confirming they had gotten one as well. Quinn had pulled out his phone to look for the email as well, Quinn refreshed his email a few times but nothing new appeared.
"Don't worry, little man. You can be my plus one." Dusk offered.
"Really?" Quinn asked, his face filled with excitement.
"We'll need formal wear." Luna read the email further looking for the rules.
"I'm sure the props department can set us up with something." Dusk said.
"Do you have any formal wear, Quinn?" Luna asked him.
"The nicest shirt and pants I have are back in Oak Haven." Quinn answered.
"Come on girls" Thorn said standing up, "looks like we need to get you some new clothes."
Thorn called the limo back and the quartet headed towards the nearest formal wear store, twenty minutes in traffic and they made it to the store. The bell chimed as Dusk pushed the glass door open.
"Can, I help you?" the man inquired from behind the front desk.
"Yeah, you got any formal wear in a boy's size?" Dusk answered.
"I believe so." The man replied, "and where is the boy?" the man asked.
Dusk looked behind her, "oh hold on one second." Dusk said as she went back outside towards the limo, this time with Quinn in tow.
The man measured Quinn, pulling out a little notebook and writing in it. The man disappeared to the back and came back out with a black tuxedo suit. The man gave it to him and told him where the dressing rooms were. Quinn came out a few minutes later, wearing the little black tuxedo.
"I think we'll take it." Dusk said pulling out her black card.
"Man, do I have to wear this?" Quinn whined.
"If you want to go to the movie night than yes, you most definitely need to wear the suit." Dusk answered.
Dusk and Quinn, got back into the limo, "wow that's a nice tux." Luna said.
"I don't want to talk about it." Quinn said.
By the time they had changed out of their regular clothes into the dresses they were going to wear, it had turned into night.
The limo headed towards the hills and past a gated community, the road towards the gray mansion was long and windy. The estate was huge when they finally arrived with its gravel road and stone angels hedges turned into animals.
Dusk knocked on the very sturdy looking front door. From the other side locks could be heard being disengaged.
A balding man, wearing a butler's suit opened the door. "Yes?" he asked.
Dusk pulled out her green phone, "We're here for the dinner and the movie."
"All of you?" the man asked eyes looking past Dusk and at Thorn, Luna and Quinn.
"Yea." Dusk said.
"Very well, follow me." The butler said as he turned around and disappeared inside the mansion.
"Remember, best behavior." Thorn said as she walked up behind Quinn and squeezed his shoulder hard.
"Yeah, little brother, we don't want to get kicked out." Luna said smirking
"Hey! It was one time." Quinn said.
If they thought the outside was huge than the inside was even bigger. In front of the brown walls were various stone pedestals with stone faces of Vincent Van Ghoul in various expressions: happiness fear and anger.
"Ah, the lovely Hex Girls." A man said at the top of the staircase. The man started down the stairs as he got closer his outfit became clearer, he wore a magician's suit complete with a cloak.
His face supported a beard with intelligent brown eyes.
"I'm a big fan of yours, allow me to introduce myself, I am the magnificent Vincent Van Ghoul at your service."
Vincent Van Ghoul held out his hand in greeting as the girls shook his hand. Vincent rubbed his beard thoughtfully. "I don't remember their being a fourth member of the band"
"This is Quinn, our brother." Dusk said, as she shoved him forward. Quinn held out his hand for the man to shake.
"I suppose you're my biggest fan? Correct?" Vincent Van Ghoul asked.
Quinn shook his head. "No not really, more of a Carpenter fan myself."
"Hmph." Vincent Van
Ghoul said.
"Well, dinner will be served at six and the unveiling of a rare film will follow on the dot at seven." Vincent Van Ghoul began.
"Do you know who won the sweepstakes?" Luna interrupted.
"I believe it's your biggest fan, a Miss Candy Walker." Vincent Van Ghoul said.
Luna raised an eyebrow. "Seriously?"
Vincent Van Ghoul shrugged. "I didn't name the girl."
"When will she arrive? Were obligatory to pose for pictures and sign autographs." Thorn said.
A car door slammed and a furious knocking could be heard. There was brief conversation in front of the house. "I present Miss Candy Walker." The butler announced.
Their stood a girl about thirteen if Quinn had to guess. She wore khaki pants with a plaid shirt, her face covered in acne and with coke glasses. Quinn put his earbuds in and ignored the girl completely. It was quiet save for the sound of Quinn's music.
"Well, um I'm Thorn." Thorn began. And that's when the silence was broken when the girl screamed in delight and rushed to hug Thorn. Thorn gave her an awkward side hug. Quinn smirked at how uncomfortable she looked.
Luna gulped and held out her hand. The girl kneeled and screamed "I'm not worthy. I'm not worthy." At Luna's feet.
"Your worthy, stand up." Luna screeched.
"You're my favorite, I've got a wig just like your hair at my house." the girl said, smiling ever so creepy at Dusk.
"This is our." Thorn began but was interrupted by Quinn. "No, thanks. Pretend I'm not here." Thorn gave him an evil look, but didn't say anything further.
"You like punk, huh?" the girl asked him when she saw his Circle Jerks t shirt, peeking out of his tux.
"Why, you got a problem with that?" Quinn asked her.
"Yes, in fact I do. Everyone knows rock is the one true art."
Quinn glared at her, "you don't say?" but didn't say anything further.
"I don't think she got the memo, about the formal wear." Dusk whispered to Luna, who just nodded in agreement.
"Dinner's ready!" the chef announced from the kitchen.
The dining room held a long wooden table with an elegant white tablecloth complete table candles. Dusk pulled out a chair and Candy immediately sat down next to her. Quinn, and Luna smirked.
The butlers brought out a bronzed chicken platter complete with mashed potatoes and gravy, two bowls of fresh fruit and salads and a chocolate cake. Vincent Van Ghoul, sat himself at the head of the table, the fine china shone in the bright light.
"Help yourself!" he announced when he cut off a slice of chicken. Quinn grabbed himself a chicken leg and a scoop of potatoes and poured some gravy.
"Don't forget the fruit and vegetables." Thorn reminded him from where she sat. Quinn grumbled but did as she said. Next it was Dusk's turn, she put a small slice of chicken on her plate with an equal amount of fruit and vegetables. Luna opted for just the salad and croutons. Thorn put an even smaller slice of chicken on her plate with more fruit than vegetables.
And Candy put a heaping helping of potatoes and vegetables on her plate.
"So, Thorn." Candy began. "I read online that you're a Wiccan on your mother's side?"
"Yeah in this universe." Quinn mumbled.
"What'd you say, little brother?" Thorn said. Her voice was sweet, but Quinn knew better, he'd pay for that later.
"Nothing." Quinn answered.
"Yeah, 1/16th." Thorn replied.
"And Dusk, you learned the drums at age seven?" Candy asked switching from Thorn to Dusk.
"Six, actually." Dusk said.
"Luna, you learned the keyboard and the bass?" Candy said. Luna nodded yes when she sipped her juice. Candy, scribbled something down in her notebook.
"Do you have any questions for me young lady?" Vincent Van Ghoul asked from where he sat.
"No I don't." Candy said without looking up. It was silent again save for the scraping of silverware and eating.
After everyone had their fill of food and cake Vincent Van Ghoul announced it was time for the rare viewing. The group left their plates for the help to clean up.
They followed Mr. Ghoul to a theater, it was complete with a concession stand and coke machines.
After the girls and Quinn loaded up on candy and popcorn they walked the dark hallway to the only door on the left and looked up in awe at the auditorium when they entered.
Quinn and Luna sat in the middle row. Dusk and Candy sat at the very end in the high row. Thorn and Mr. Ghoul sat at the very front.
The film played without any commercials and went straight to the title screen. 'The Tingler'.
At one of the jump scares Quinn grabbed hold of Luna's sleeve in fright. Luna smirked but didn't say anything.
The theater screen went blank with a burned look the theater lights turned on full power and started strobing, the group closed their eyes in an effort to protect their eyes.
When the spots started to clear from their vision and they could see clearly, they noticed that Mr. Ghoul had vanished! A voodoo doll was left in his place next to Thorn.
"Like where'd he go?" Dusk asked.
"You think this is him?" Luna said as she picked up the doll and examined it.
"Does that type of magic exist?" Candy asked the two girls.
They shrugged.
"Maybe?" Luna said.
Three buff security guards showed up minutes later.
"Where's Mr. Ghoul?" one of them asked.
Thorn showed them the doll. "Seriously?" the other said.
"We'll look through the security cameras." The first one said.
"Yeah, we'll help." Thorn said.
"I hate to say it, but let's look for clues." Dusk said.
"Hopefully nobody calls us meddling kids." Luna said.
"Hey, girls, over here." Thorn said as she was examining the seat where Mr. Ghoul sat. The girls and Quinn huddled around her, Thorn pushed the seat down and a hole in the floor whooshed opened.
"Where do you think it leads?" Dusk asked.
Thorn and Luna looked at each other and said together. "Basement."
The group made their way to the basement and seeing how huge it was they decided they would need to split up. Quinn went with Luna. Thorn, Dusk, and Candy went together.
After what seemed like an eternity of making their way down the dark hallway they came to an opening and there in the middle sat Mr. Ghoul! They did it! They found him.
Luna pulled off his gag. "Who did this to you?"
"It was my partner, Jason Levees."
"Why?" Quinn asked him.
"He thought the movie should be put on display in a museum, instead of collecting dust in my collection."
Luna untied him and helped him up from the seat and they made their way back to the group. Thorn and Candy were talking and Dusk had her eyes closed.
"Dusk are you alright?" Quinn asked her as he approached her.
"I think I'm coming down with something, I've been feeling it for a few days now." Dusk sneezed into her hands. They made their way back upstairs and into the kitchen.
"Master Ghoul, I'm sure glad you're alright." One of his butlers said from the counter.
Mr. Ghoul pulled out a phone and began dialing. "Hello? Yes I'd like to report a crime."
Quinn ignored the rest of the conversation.
After Mr. Ghoul was done with his conversation he turned to the girls. "Thank you for the rescue, but if you don't mind my hospitality is wearing thin. Reginald? Would you mind showing our guests to the front door?"
"Certainly sir." The butler from before shooed them towards the front door.
"Thorn? Can I take off this monkey suit now?" Quinn whined.
"Are we back at the hotel?" she answered.
"No." Quinn said.
"Well it was nice meeting you." Thorn said to Candy.
"Yeah." Dusk said.
"Just a little word of advice, the next time you meet your heroes, try not to bow and say you're unworthy." Luna said as she shook Candy's hand.
"Wait! Just one more question."
The trio stopped. "Yes?"
"Where are you guys heading to next?"
"Australia. We're opening up for an unsigned band contest." Thorn said.
They piled into the limo and made it back to the hotel without incident and they went to their separate rooms and packed their things.
They piled into a SUV and headed to the airport.
To be continued.
