It would still be a while before they moved out because, unsurprisingly, Leonardo was a little more cautious. It had saved their shells on more than one occasion even though it grated on Mikey's already frayed nerves now. "It could be a trap," Leo commented with a glance at Mikey. "You're sure she's not involved in anything?"
"Dude, she's my friend," Mikey snapped. He shifted restlessly in his seat. "It's probably what got her into this…" he trailed off and turned away.
Leo's frown deepened, but he didn't comment. He looked at Don. "Is there anything useful on those blueprints?" From what the blue masked turtle could see on the screen there was not much to go on.
Don continue to type away. He had been able to get started with the technology programed into his shell cell, but it was much more efficient now that he had the equipment from the van. "The blueprints submitted to the city give the basic above ground layout, but they don't even show that underground garage we saw."
"We don't need to know what ya can't find, Donnie," growled Raph, twirling his sai.
"I'm working on getting the actual plans from the bug I was able to place into their system. I just need to get through the backdoor through the security access point…Got it!" His typing increased as he was able to pull up an entirely new set of diagrams. His eye ridges furrowed, he frowned in concentration. "The upper levels were converted office space, but down here…" the plans spun and zoomed in on another section, "…based on the contracting and supplies that have been brought in, this is the most likely area that someone would be brought to. The garage entrance that we saw is in close proximity."
"So what's our way in?" Leo asked, crouching to look closer at the screen. He pointed to a section. "This looks like it will bring us near there."
Don shook his head. "That puts you right in the middle of their security system. I was able to deactivate the sensors around this window. It's a little farther away, but it's the better option. The purple masked turtle paused. "And I should probably stay here to monitor the situation," he admitted reluctantly. "Their security measures are more advanced than I was expecting. It will be easier to keep an eye out from out here and that way I can update you guys on the building layout."
Leo nodded. "Alright, let's go."
Mikey stood quickly, ignoring Leo's warning look.
"'Bout time," Raph muttered, stretching languidly. Despite the seeming carelessness, he had a look of anticipation in his eyes.
Was I hearing things now? I froze, trying to figure out if it was my own paranoia or if I had an actual reason to be worried. Well, more worried.
I felt like I had been wandering in circles forever. The arm the IVs had been in was throbbing. I had been using the bottom of my shirt to cover the puncture wound and applying pressure to slow the bleeding. The added force on top of what was already looking to be a pretty spectacular bruise was unpleasant, but I was reassured to see the bleeding start to slow down. The bright lights and the white hallways were disorienting and I feared stopping for too long despite the spinning I felt every few minutes. The constant worrying keep my adrenaline rush going, spurring me forward. There wasn't much to go by, just the odd door every so often. I had passed the first few, wary of running Into people in the building. The occasional distant murmur was making me more and more jumpy. I started trying door handles as I passed them. I was expecting them to be locked, but it was still disappointing to discover.
This was getting me nowhere. I stopped at the next door I saw and pressed my ear to it, listening hard. No noise came from the room. I jiggled the locked handle and prayed hard to whatever might be listening. I pressed the door inward.
I nearly collapsed in relief right in the hallway as the door opened with a dull crunch. I managed to wait until I was inside before I sunk to the ground. Weariness was starting to overtake me. I starred dully at the office space in front of me. Although the majority of the space was occupied by a large stainless steel desk and cabinets, it still reminded me a little too much of the lab space I had been in earlier.
Everything started to look unfocused and waved across my vision. I just needed to close my eyes for a minute, I told myself. When I felt my head start to drift to one side I made myself stand up. Maybe looking around would give me some idea about what had happened to me. Or maybe there was clues to an escape. At the very least it gave me something else to focus on while I collected my thoughts.
The door opened slightly as soon as I stopped leaning in it. I closed it, but the door jam was too broken for it to stay shut. I contemplated barricading it with some of the furniture. Everything that was bulky enough to create a barrier seemed pretty solidly secured to the floor however, and I didn't want to tire myself out more. I compromised with bracing a chair there to at least keep the door shut
Now that I had a moment I decided to look around. Maybe I could find a clue to what was going on. I tried the cabinets first only to find them locked. I moved on to the desk. There wasn't much there, the usual pens, an unresponsive computer, and a thick folder of papers.
I opened to the first page.
Dr. Rosca's studies have resulted in successfully identifying what would make up the imperium essence. New samples are needed to perfect these results.
I continued to page through, but I wasn't able to make much about what was described in the rest of the file. There was detailed written records about the studies. It was disturbingly clinical sounding. The fates of the participants were not mentioned other than being "unsuccessful".
I pushed the file aside roughly and continued my search. I did discover a set of small silver keys. None of them fit the locked drawer of the desk, but after a moments thought I turned back to the locked cabinet.
I fumbled with the lock until it opened. Inside were yet more files. I shuffled through a couple. These all seemed to be profiles, information and pictures of different people. My stomach dropped as I came upon a picture of myself, obviously taken from afar. I ripped that page out and stuffed it in my pocket. And then resigned myself to giving these papers another look through. If there was information about me I needed to know what it was.
