The first bit is a recap of some of the plot for My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, so if you would like to skip it if you've watched the movie, feel free to. However, it retells David's motives in his perspective, so if you have an interest, reading it will help set up for later arcs in the story.
United Global Forces: Basically my version of the United Nations but centuries in the future.
Chapter 6
The Quirk Apprehension Test
Word Count: 4800
"Damn it!"
David slammed his desk in frustration, glaring at the screen in front of him. He was in the arena lab, doing some of his less glamorous paperwork. Izuku turned towards the scientist, concerned from the outburst. The boy had been in particularly high spirits after his acceptance, and requested to do some training in I-Island to relieve some energy. David had happily obliged, supervising as he worked in the background.
"Is everything alright, Shield-sensei?" Izuku fretted, picking up the dummy he had been whacking.
"Please, call me David. And yes, everything's fine, just got an annoying email," David reassured.
"If you say so, Shi- ah, David." He turned back to his dummy, testing out his punches on the artificial body.
David sighed. Izuku was a good kid, and David was glad Toshinori had introduced them. The boy had a fire he had only seen before in Toshinori, and he was certain he would grow up to be a great hero. Still, he was only a boy, and David couldn't tell him what was really on his mind.
He couldn't tell anyone, for that matter. Naomasa was friendly enough, but he was a detective, and would get too proddy if he knew about the situation. And Toshinori… even though David was doing this all for him, he knew the hero wouldn't approve. But David was sure that once Toshinori tried the finished product, he would relent.
He turned back to the screen, looking at the email that read 'REJECTION." David wasn't stupid. Ever since five years ago, he could see that All Might's power had been decreasing. All For One had almost killed Toshi, and the lasting effects from that battle were still affecting the number one hero. All Might now only showed up for a few hours a day, and compared to the levels of strength he had possessed before, was getting weaker. The general public didn't notice. All Might was still their beacon of hope, their Symbol of Peace. A minute difference in strength didn't matter as long as he got the job done.
But David saw past the facade. He knew All Might in his true form, and that form was slowly dwindling. Toshinori even had trouble walking up stairs, huffing and puffing at the simplest exercise. It worried David, who still saw Young Age All Might working his way up the hero ladder. He swore he would bring back Toshinori's power, so he wouldn't have to hide in fear of collapsing anymore.
Using his intellect and his colleague, Sam, he devised a plan for a device that could enhance a Quirk without straining the body. He had spent the last few years working on the blueprints until he was sure it could work. Then, he finally built it. It may have been a prototype, but it was glorious, able to boost the simplest of Quirks to pro levels. The culmination of years of hard work, the masterpiece which would finally save All Might. Of course, that was where everything had to go wrong.
People had taken notice of his work, and for some reason were scared of it. Word spread, and soon, local governments had privately contacted him to kindly cease his work. When David had refused, those governments had reached out to higher powers, and soon he had the Global United Forces breathing down his back. They had taken his equipment, his research, claiming it was too 'dangerous' to society, and left him with nothing.
David had been devastated. His chance to save All Might was gone. For days, he had wandered around aimlessly, letting his secretaries take charge of the island as he sat at his desk day in and day out. He would probably still be like that had Sam not offered him a proposition.
He had brought up the idea of hiring villains to steal the prototype. At first, David had vehemently declined. Villains?! The mere idea was blasphemous. However, Sam had reassured him that they were going to only be fake villains, simply creating a distraction for them to take the prototype. That idea had sounded much better, and after much contemplation, David had finally relented.
Still, it never had settled right in his chest. He constantly tried to apply to the GUF for his prototype, but each time they had declined. The email in front of him was one of those rejections, piled behind countless others. Sighing, he glanced at a picture frame on his desk for consolation.
It was a photo of him and Melissa, proudly holding an invention of hers that had won the school competition. Melissa was the best thing he had created, and it hurt him that he had to hide something like this from her. Melissa was strong, though, and All Might was dying. In his mind, it was worth it.
He lifted his gaze back to the screen, pulling up the plans for the I-Island Expo. It would be tragic for the early ticket holders that their fun would be ruined, but it was for a good cause. He was going to save All Might, no matter what he had to give up in the process.
"Wow, it's incredible that we have two students attending the prestigious U.A.!"
The principal fawned over Katsuki and Izuku as they stood in front of the desk. Izuku was blushing as the principal complimented him, not used to the admiration. Katsuki simply huffed, annoyed that he was even standing here.
He looked over at the skittish boy next to him. Izuku, Quirkless Deku, against all odds had actually made it into U.A. Every time Katsuki had tried to ask Izuku about his exam, the nervous teen had simply run away, too afraid to talk. He apparently hadn't told anyone else, either, as not even his parents, who were good friends with Midoriya Inko, could tell him.
There was no way that a Quirkless could even stand a chance in the exam. Even if U.A. had opened up the exam to people without Quirks, the type of practical exam prevented anyone without a special power from getting any points. No regular human could smash robots like someone with a Quirk.
And yet, Izuku had managed to do the impossible. Maybe he had really gotten in Quirk-free. After all, the only points he had managed to get were rescue points. Katsuki himself hadn't bothered rescuing, knowing that his sheer power was enough to propel him into the leaderboards.
No, the more likely scenario confirmed Katsuki's deepest suspicions. Izuku actually had a Quirk. He had seen it back when that slime villain had captured him. Izuku, the idiot, ran in to save Katsuki. Not like he needed the help, but the kid was too noble for his own good. Nevertheless, when Izuku had been attacked, he held off the villain using the power of Death Arms' Quirk. It was exactly like back then, when an explosion had knocked Katsuki off of his feet at the young age of four. Now, he knew that it was Izuku who had made the explosion, conscious or not.
Katsuki needed answers, and so right after the principal had dismissed him for the day, when they were out of sight, Katsuki had shoved Izuku into a wall, pinning his arms down. He grabbed Izuku's collar and gave the puny boy a withering glare, which he responded with a terrified one.
"How did you pass the exam, huh? What tricks did you use? Who did you bribe?" he growled, pushing Izuku further up until his feet were waving in the air.
"N- No one, Kacchan, I- I-"
"Or did you actually pass? Could it be… you have a Quirk?"
The feeling of Izuku freezing up had confirmed what Katsuki had already known, but the punk tried his hardest to deny "I- I don't know what y- you're talking about, K- Kacchan!" Izuku squeaked, trembling in his hands.
"Do you think I'm an idiot?!" The volume of Katsuki's outrage had startled the already frightened boy, and Izuku had started to whimper.
"That day, the slime villain. When you had idiotically run in to save me. You used it then. Some sort of… copy ability."
"Kacchan, I-"
"I'm not done. I don't care what sort of Quirk you have. No matter what pathetic power you think you have, you're still useless Deku, understand me? You think you're better than me? Just wait until school starts, Deku. I'm going to show you just how fucking useless you and your pitiful Quirk are."
He was practically choking Izuku now, his hand shoved up his throat so far he was touching his windpipe. Katsuki prepared to let go, feeling as he had gotten his point in when he felt a firm hand clamp on his arm.
Incredulously, he watched as Izuku bent his arm back, pushing with enough strength to make Katsuki release his hold. "No," Izuku stated, fear still apparent in his voice but no longer holding him back.
"Someone told me that I could be a hero, that I could do it with my own effort…" Izuku was physically shoving Katsuki back now, making the blond boy step back.
"That's why I'm going! That's why I'm going to surpass you!" The two were far enough now that Izuku could escape, which he gladly did, walking off without looking back.
Katsuki could only stare. His hands started to crackle, his anger leaking out of his body. That idiot… Explosions caused the walls around him to be marred with soot, and he let out a furious growl. He was going to be number one at U.A., and he wasn't going to let little Deku stop him.
Izuku gazed at the impossibly high doors he was about to enter with awe. It was the door to the 1-A classroom, tall enough for even All Might to pass through. As a matter of fact, the entire hallway was two stories high, adjusted to accommodate students with all sorts of Quirks.
Pushing open the door, he walked into the room only to see Katsuki himself antagonizing people. The fiery teen had his feet propped up on a desk, and the stern blue-haired boy seemed to be lecturing him.
Izuku groaned internally. Both his childhood bully and the person who thought he was a joke were in his class. The day was heading towards a rough start already.
"...Tenya Iida," the stern boy finished. Katsuki grinned sadistically at his words.
"Somei, huh? So you're a damn elite? I'll have fun crushing you," he snarled, causing Tenya to flinch.
"Crushing?! Do you truly aim to be a hero like that?" Before Katsuki could retort, the bickering duo noticed Izuku entering the classroom.
Izuku paled at the infuriated sneer Katuski shot him, and focused his attention on the rapidly approaching Tenya.
"Good morning! My name is-"
"I heard!" Izuku interrupted, waving his hands in reassurance.
"My name's Midoriya, it's nice to meet you, Iida!"
Tenya's gaze turned serious. "Midoriya, the way you handled yourself in the exam was astounding. And, of course, you figured out there was something more to the practical, didn't you? I misjudged you, and for that, I sincerely apologize," he conceded.
"Oh, no, I actually didn't realize-"
He was interrupted by a familiar voice from behind.
"Hey, you're the curly-haired guy!"
Izuku turned around to see Ochaco, dressed in uniform and wearing a bright smile. "You passed, just like Present Mic said you would! I'm glad!" she bubbled, waving her hands around in excitement.
Her uniform looks really good on her… Why was he thinking of that now?! His face started to turn redder and redder, and he tried to hide his face in his hands. He shook his head vigorously as she imitated his punching, trying to expel the thought from his mind once again.
"W- Well, it was because you pulled me out of the debris th- that I even survived…," he muttered, rubbing his neck in embarrassment.
Ochaco immediately sobered, her expression turning from delight to concern. "Oh yeah, I was wondering about that. Are you okay? You looked really out of it after that punch, and you were even sicker than me, which I didn't think was possible."
"Go somewhere else if you're here to make friends."
The two were snapped out of their conversation by a lifeless voice, and Izuku looked past Ochaco to see… a man in a yellow sleeping bag on the ground.
Ochaco and Iida focused on the man as well, blanching as he took an applesauce pouch out of his sleeping bag and sucked on it. He was tall with long, black hair, and enough scruff to give the appearance that he hadn't shaved. That was entirely likely considering his blood-red eyes and the bags under them, as it looked like he hadn't slept in a week.
The man got up to stand, shedding his sleeping bag exterior as he did so. "It took you eight seconds to be quiet. Time is limited. That sort of behavior is not rational."
He faced the rest of the class, who were as confused as Izuku, Ochaco, and Iida. "I'm your homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shouta."
Aizawa pulled an impossible amount of gym uniforms out of his bag, setting them on the desk of the student closest to him. "This may be sudden, but put these on and come outside to the training field."
He then rolled back into his bag, zipped it up, and rolled away to apparently the fields, leaving the classroom absolutely baffled as to what had just happened.
"A Quirk assessment test?!"
The voices of the class rang out into the air, shock prevalent in both their tone and faces. They were all on the field, having changed into their gym uniforms. The field was fenced in, opening to a cliff that looked across U.A.'s forest. Aizawa stood in front of the group, unimpressed.
"What about orientation and the entrance ceremony?" Ochaco asked.
"If you're going to become a hero, you don't have time to waste on leisurely events."
Gasps rang out at the unapologetic tone as the class realized what exactly they had signed up for.
"U.A.'s selling point is how free the school is," Aizawa continued, his voice dragging in boredom. "That applies to its teachers as well."
He held up a phone containing a list of activities to the class. "You did these in middle school as well, right? Physical fitness tests, except you weren't allowed to use your Quirks. The country still uses averages from results where you weren't allowed to use your Quirks. It's not rational. The world has changed, and the Ministry of Education is slacking off."
He turned towards Katsuki. "You finished first in the practical exam, Bakugo. How far could you throw a softball in middle school?"
"67 meters."
"Do it with your Quirk."
Katsuki walked into the center of one of the painted circles on the ground, most of the class watching him in anticipation. He grabbed a softball from the ground, stretching in preparation for his throw.
"Anything is permitted given you don't step outside of the circle," Aizawa added.
Finishing his stretch, Katsuki firmly planted his feet on the ground. He leaned back, then whipped his arm forwards, throwing the ball. An instant later, he set off a massive explosion, propelling the ball to inhuman speeds. In his straining, he shouted at the top of his lungs, "DIEEEEEE!"
Izuku paled. Die?
The ball flew through the air, rings of smoke following its trail as the blast left a faint fire behind it. Arcing up, it landed after a few seconds, still within the field but almost a speck in the distance. Aizawa held up his phone again, the screen displaying 705 meters.
The class gasped in awe, amazed at the sheer distance Katsuki had achieved with only his Quirk. "Wow, that looks like fun!" someone called out, excited at the opportunity to use their Quirk.
"It looks like fun, huh?"
The chatter instantly ceased as Aizawa's voice sharpened. "Is that the attitude you're going to take during your three years here? Fine. Whoever comes in last during this test will be judged as having no potential and will be permanently expelled."
The class went into chaos then, panic spreading among the students. They had worked hard to get into this incredible program, and now it could be taken away from them before they could start? U.A. really was as intense as people said it was.
Izuku in particular was extremely nervous. Not from the threat of expulsion, as long as he relied on other Quirks, he would do fine. No, he was scared of Katsuki. Izuku shuddered at the thought of their interaction a few days prior, before the start of the term. Katsuki somehow had figured out he had a Quirk. Even before he had told the blond boy, he had known. Worse still, he had a personal vendetta against Izuku for it. Izuku looked up at Katsuki, who returned his glance with a scathing glare. Izuku quickly looked away after that.
He didn't have much of a choice, however. He could handle Katsuki's bullying, but he wouldn't let anything stop him from attending U.A. now. He had put too much work into this to throw it all away on the first day.
Izuku took in a deep breath as he lined up for the fifty-meter dash, the first of eight events that would test their physical abilities with a Quirk. He had witnessed three races prior to him, and, given that they were all in a group, he had access to all of their Quirks. He had noticed, through training in I-Island, that it wasn't necessary for him to see his target. He only needed to know that they were there and nearby.
The first race had been between Tenya and a girl who had the features of a frog. Tenya had blazed ahead with his Engine Quirk, while the frog-girl had hopped closely behind with her amphibian legs. The frog legs would be useful, and very easy to manage. However, they could be too slow, which would grant me fewer points. On the other hand, Iida's Quirk is extremely fast, and there are not many that could match its speed. However, it seems harder to control, as sideways momentum from that low would normally make a person fall flat on their face.
Ochaco had come next, along with a boy with a muscular tail. I've used Ochaco's Quirk before, but it seems very unsuited for this event. The tail could be useful, except for the fact that I would have no idea how to control an extra limb. Hmm… I wouldn't have thought his tail would be that strong. Maybe I could ask him to teach me to use it later…
After them had been the sparkling boy with the laser and a strange girl who had pink skin and yellow eyes with a black iris. The girl didn't use her Quirk at all, so no point in grabbing it. The other kid has a really strong laser if it can propel him back without any outside force. However, both at the exam and now, he had only used it for a second at most. Even after the race, he told everyone that his Quirk made him nauseous after prolonged use. I am curious as to how far the laser goes, though… I really wish I had my notebook.
Finally, it was Izuku's turn. Unfortunately, Aizawa had paired him up with Katsuki, who was currently boring his gaze into him and he stretched. Kacchan's Quirk would be great for this event, and I have a lot of experience with it, but considering what he said to me before, it's highly likely he'd take my head off if I tried to use his Quirk. Guess Iida's Quirk is the best to go with.
"On your mark!"
The tinny robotic voice startled Izuku out of his thoughts, and he braced his legs in preparation. Sneaking a quick glance as Tenya, he brought his mindscape up, looking around until he saw the blue-haired boy with his Engine.
"Get set!"
He borrowed the Quirk, wincing at the feeling of exhaust pipes growing into his calves. The pipes shocked a few in the class, especially Tenya, who gasped at the sight of his Quirk and Izuku's now blue hair that had looked superimposed from his own. Aizawa narrowed his eyes, choosing to keep quiet.
"Go!"
"AAAAAAAH!"
Izuku shot forwards, the fire in his calves tickling his skin as he blazed across the track. He had expected some backlash from the Quirk, but he didn't expect to go this fast. It was uncontrollable, and he passed the finish line in a second, going further beyond. He managed to release the Quirk, but the momentum was too much, and, albeit at a slower speed, he crashed into the fence at the edge of the field.
The act had drawn a few laughs from the crowd as Katsuki crossed the finish line in four seconds, and Izuku turned a light shade of red at the embarrassment. Damn… didn't realize how much control Iida had over his legs. His grimace turned into a smile as he picked himself back up and walked back to the crowd. Still, I made it. I beat everyone else!
In his happiness, he didn't notice Aizawa's suspicious gaze. That wasn't the Quirk he showed during the exam…
Before he could think any further, the machine prepped for the next set of students. Sighing, he shelved the information away for another time, going back to analyzing the students' potential.
The next few tests passed by quickly. Too quickly, in Izuku's opinion. He didn't have time to recharge his Quirk between the tests, so he had to resort to using his Quirk every other test. For the grip strength test, he had simply relied on his human effort, having practiced with a grip strengthener often during his training. It was nowhere near the strength of someone like the guy with multiple limbs, but it was enough.
He had borrowed Ochaco's Quirk for the standing long jump. Unfortunately, he had completely forgotten about the negative aspects of using Zero Gravity on the user. The moment he had jumped in the air, his stomach flipped so severely he had to let go of the Quirk instantly, dropping only a mere two meters. Ochaco had giggled at that, remembering the entrance exam and how he had copied her Quirk then. She reassured him that her Quirk wasn't meant to be used on herself, but it was still a hit to Izuku's morale.
The sidestep test had gone averagely, and they had progressed to the test everyone was waiting for, the softball throw. After seeing how far Katsuki had thrown it, everyone wanted to show their prowess as well. The class had just watched Ochaco throw an impressive distance of infinity, and now it was Izuku's turn to throw.
Izuku stood confidently in the middle of the circle, contemplating his options. He had used Ochaco's Quirk before, and it hadn't worked out well, but this time it was on a mere object. It would be more than enough to get him the points he needed to not be last. He smiled, stretching his arm back and activating Zero Gravity on the ball. He threw…
...and felt his jaw drop to the floor as the ball only traveled a few meters. What?! I copied Ochaco's Quirk, right? I was so sure I did! ...except that now, he couldn't feel Zero Gravity. In fact, he couldn't feel any of his Quirks, neither One For All nor his copy ability.
"I erased your Quirk."
Izuku looked at Aizawa, the source of the voice, who had… changed. Instead of his bored, tired attitude, his eyes were now deathly serious. He was in an aggressive stance, his scarf and hair floating around him as his pupils glowed red.
"That entrance exam is not rational at all. It doesn't test your Quirks, only your ability to use them to destroy meaningless robots," he sneered as he stared Izuku down.
"You erased my… oh." Izuku was hit with sudden realization as he caught a glimpse of the yellow goggles around Aizawa's neck.
"Those goggles… you can erase Quirks just by looking at them. You're the Eraser Hero: Eraserhead!"
Aizawa's eyes narrowed as he surveyed the young teen. "What exactly is your Quirk? Here, you've only been copying others' Quirks, but back at the exam you destroyed a zero-pointer with a power no one else had."
Izuku started to sweat, tense at the thought that someone had figured his secret out. His tension was slightly relieved when Aizawa shook his head. "It doesn't matter, but what does matter is that your Quirk right now is entirely reliant on others. Even with your demonstration in the exam, the only reason you got any points in the first place was because Present Mic happened to be there. In an actual situation, when you're fighting with a villain you don't know, what are you going to do? You'll be powerless. You'll waste time waiting until a hero shows up, and only then will you be of use."
"B- But-"
The scarf tendrils floating around Aizawa suddenly shot around Izuku's arms like a rope, dragging him towards the menacing pro. "In this world, you can't be relying on others to do what only you can do. Other schools, even other teachers would let you carry on, but my intention is to make you into true heroes. That cannot be achieved if you only rely on yourself."
Aizawa let Izuku go, his hair and scarf returning to their normal position. "I've given you your Quirk back. You will have two chances to throw the ball again. And if I notice you copy any Quirk here… you will be expelled on the spot."
The pit forming in Izuku's stomach widened. He was going to depend on Ochaco's Quirk for the test, but that option was off of the table. Instead, he was going to have to rely on One For All, the only Quirk that he could use that he didn't steal from someone else.
After the entrance exam results had come out, Izuku had met with All Might whenever the hero wasn't busy with paperwork to work on One For All. He had brought up how his entire body broke when using the Quirk, but All Might had simply laughed it off. He said it was inevitable, that now once he had used one hundred percent of the Quirk, he would have an easier time controlling it.
Izuku growled in frustration, bracing his legs back for another throw. He heard Aizawa huff in disappointment, but he ignored it. Aizawa-sensei is right, I can't depend on others for my Quirk, especially with my 30-second limit and recovery period. I was granted One For All for a reason. All Might trusted me with this power, and I have to learn how to use it.
But… how? I can't just destroy myself every time I use the power. I need to learn how to manage it. I need to control it.
Palming the ball, he stretched his arm back. Taking a deep breath, he steadied himself, tensing the muscles he would need to throw the ball. He drew on the power of One For All, feeling the gate that just barely held back the destructive potential of the Quirk. With a yell, he swung his arm forwards.
He rolled the ball along his hand until only the tip of his finger was touching the ball. Concentrating, he diverted One For All to that finger, feeling the rush of power he had felt during the exam. It was smaller, more precise, and with that immense power, he flung the ball at the last second, sending all of the power into the ball.
The throw sent shockwaves through the air, making everyone's hair fly around as the supersonic ball blasted away. Intense pain shot through Izuku's arm, but his determination let him stand still, not letting himself collapse.
He shot a glance at Aizawa, who was, for once, mildly shocked. "Sensei…," he muttered, the painful sensations causing his voice to tremble. "I didn't copy a Quirk!"
Aizawa stood still for a minute, then closed his eyes with a smirk. He shook his head in disbelief. I'll have to interrogate him about that Quirk later on, but… this kid! Not only did he manage to keep himself from copying, but he also kept that uncontrollable power of his in check.
I was wrong. This kid has some potential after all.
So, I know that the end of the Quirk Apprehension test is the same as the original, but I've changed quite a bit within the arc, and honestly, this was the only time Izuku could learn to use One For All properly enough for him to learn Full Cowling by the Hero Killer Arc. Otherwise, he would be completely reliant on All For One, and it also taught him an important lesson to not lax on one of his Quirks. Don't worry, Izuku will be using a LOT of All For One soon enough.
Also, can I say how annoying Google Docs's formatting is? Apparently, Docs is coded in CSS, and both AO3 and are coded in HTML. Until now, every time I uploaded, I manually had to italicize and bolden every single word I needed to on both uploads. Luckily, I found a formatting converter, so my uploads can actually be efficient. Just a little rant, now on to the reviews!
Alkanasynranem: At first it seemed unfair that Izuku lost all his points but at the same time if he didn't it would lessen the tension and the importance of his choice to save Ochako so in a way I understand... I wonder if someone (maybe Aizawa) will tell him how dangerous it was to copy Mic's quirk, a quirk both powerful and hard to control, and that he could have really endangered the other students of the exam. Also, why didn't All Might (and his associates) ask Midoriya and his mother how is it possible for him to have All for One? The most logical explanations are that All for One is a family member or that he personally gave his quirk away to Midoriya (and that would mean that he is alive so very concerning !). I hope we will have answers latter on ;) As for pairing, I don't really care. I like TodoDeku and IzuOcha very much but anything is good for me although I really don't like BakuDeku (I'm not into a relationship between an abuse victim and his abuser). Anyway, I like your story so far and I'm looking forward to the next chapters!
Yeah, if Izuku had just destroyed the entrance exam with villain points, it wouldn't nearly have the effect I need it to have an impact on the story, albeit later. For the exam itself, my reasoning for Aizawa not chiding him for being close to hurting others is that 1) the test said nothing about destroying any debris, only to destroy as many robots as possible, 2) they put a zero-pointer on the children and did nothing to stop it, and 3) Recovery Girl was there if anything life-threatening happened. All For One will be explained much later, as right now I just want to focus on Izuku's mastery of the Quirk. Don't worry, it'll come eventually! For ships, I still won't reveal the endgame ships, but I can tell you now it's not going to be BakuDeku. The way I've written Bakugo so far, I hope it came across, and yeah, I really don't endorse a romantic relationship between someone that the person in question told to jump off of a roof. While Bakugo will have development, he will never get romantically close to Izuku, as I do not see that ever happening in canon or my story. Thank you for the comments and I hope you keep enjoying the story!
Nice: Nice! Times 10
Thanks! Your username is pretty nice as well, if I must say.
OP Taipan: I'm not sure what to think about the chapter. I might have missed it, but I don't remember you establishing that the zero-pointer resets the points of whoever attacks it, so it felt like it came out of nowhere. Continuity is very important when writing, don't neglect that. I'm still curious as to where you're taking this, your take of AFO is quite unique. Also, don't be afraid of changing things up. In my experience, the best fics rarely follow the source material word for word, if at all. Changing things up keeps things interesting.
I did put an author's note after the reupload that I had rewritten Chapter 4 to fit the continuity of the story, but I understand if people missed it, as it was a pretty small line. Continuity is one of my pet peeves in a story, and I try my best to fix anything that contradicts itself unless it's intentional. If there ever is a continuity error, please let me know, as it would be very appreciated. And yeah, since the comments on the original Chapter 5, I've focused on making my version of each arc much more different. Some of the best fics on the site and some of my inspirations (Viridescent, YUTS on AO3, Apotheosis) have very different takes on canon, and it would do me well to learn from what makes their fics so great, so I'll try to get better on that as the story progresses. Thanks for the advice and the comment!
Feel free to leave a review and thanks for reading!
