In the early hours of the morning Meredith Grey sat at the nurses' desk in a daze. She was drumming her pen against the table repeatedly, unable to concentrate on her paperwork. Her mind was consumed with so many thoughts, a lot of memories and she was feeling so much pain at this moment. The sudden appearance of her long-lost sister had thrown her into a dark place, she could not concentrate on anything other than her deceased sister. Lexie. Her kid sister who she loved so terribly. She was surprised she did not recognize Molly straight away as now she could not stop seeing Lexie in her. Molly resembled their sister Lexie remarkably. She had the same facial structure, the long, thick brown hair that flowed down her back, and they even shared the same cheek dimple. Meredith hated to think about her lost sister, it was too painful to even think about her, eight years on and it still did not get any easier for her. It haunted Meredith every day, she often regretted the few months she spent rejecting her sister and how badly she treated her. Lexie loved her so fiercely, and she forced Meredith to have a relationship with her, but it was the best thing that ever happened her. They had become so close, even closer than normal sisters were. They laughed together, they cried with one another, and Lexie made her smile wider than anyone else in the world. They were sisters, inseparable inside the hospital and outside of it.

Meredith never thought about Molly. Not since the day she helped Addison Montgomery to deliver her baby, who ironically, was now her patient, thirteen years later. Thirteen years. It was a long time. So much had happened in that space of time, Meredith lost so many people. She lost friends, sisters and she lost her husband, the love of her life. She had experienced so much pain, but it made her stronger, in herself and in her career. Even when Meredith became close to Lexie, she never thought about her other sister – she even forgot she existed most of the time. Lexie would call her from time to time, she often reminisced on their childhood together, and she visited her on her husband's army base, but Meredith barely knew her name. She had a fleeting glance at her at Lexie's funeral, she was on one side of the room, Meredith stayed on the other. Lexie had led two lives and it showed at the funeral, one side of the room was before she became a surgeon, her school friends, her proper family. Her second life was the hospital, Meredith, Derek and their friends. Thatcher's funeral was different, Meredith stayed at the back and she did not stay for too long. She did not need to. She remembered watching Molly break down at the altar, and yet she didn't even approach her. They shared a father and a sister, and she did not even check in on her. What kind of a person did that make her? She didn't know, probably not a very good one. It was strange, to be so close to Lexie and barely know Molly but Meredith did not need Molly, she had sisters, Maggie, and even Amelia. She was all sistered out. She was tired of getting to know sisters, because once she did and once, she let them into their life they died – everyone always died.

"Mer?" said Maggie as she interrupted Meredith's thoughts "Are you okay?"

"If you tap that pen any more, the table is going break," added Amelia as she slouched against the table and began to read her charts.

Meredith glanced up from the paperwork she had been trying to get through and blinked at Maggie aimlessly. "Fine," she shrugged "I'm fine,"

"You don't look fine," said Amelia "You look all spacey and weird,"

Meredith frowned "I am not spacey and weird – I'm fine,"

"Say it once more and I'll believe you," said Amelia with a raised eyebrow.

"I'm fine,"

"I believe you,"

Maggie looked between her two sisters and folded her arms "Well I don't, what's up with you? You've been acting odd since yesterday,"

Meredith sighed and contemplated whether to tell her sisters. The revelation would not add any significance to their lives. Molly was her problem to deal with, not theirs. They would not understand the pain she was experiencing remembering Lexie. Maggie never met her, and Amelia only met her twice. She wished Christina were around to help her, or Alex, more importantly she wished Derek were with her. For a moment, she wished she could take a time machine and travel back in time and freeze it. She would freeze it and let everything stay the same.

"I-," she paused "My niece was admitted last night,"

Amelia and Maggie shared confused looks as they tried to understand what Meredith was talking about. "Your niece?" asked Amelia. "What niece?"

"Laura,"

"You have a niece called Laura?"

"And my sister is here, in this hospital," added Meredith as she shuffled her paperwork.

"You have another sister?" asked Maggie. "Um Mer, how many sisters do you have?"

"I have a lot of sisters," shrugged Meredith "But technically I have – or well had three biological sisters – I guess," she let out a little sigh "Lexie died,"

"I know," said Maggie carefully, she knew this was a tough subject for Meredith "Who's your other sister?"

"Molly," replied Meredith "I only met her once, I delivered her baby, and I never spoke to her again," she bit her lip "Now that baby is my patient," Her eyes twinkled "I actually delivered the baby with Addison," she said looking at Amelia.

Amelia smiled "Good ol' Addie, she's the best at delivering babies," she paused "Are you – were you close to her?"

Meredith shook her head "Never, she's my father's daughter, Lexie's full blood sister, but I never knew her properly, and now she's here and all I can think about is Lexie," she let out a small sigh "Everywhere I go I see Lexie,"

Maggie looked concerned "Are you hallucinating?" she asked, "Because that is not a good sign,"

Meredith shook her head "No I-I just – I don't think I ever dealt with her death properly - I've never dealt with anyone's death properly – it's the dark and twisty in me,"

Maggie offered her a smile "Maybe you could get to know her now?" she suggested "I mean, she is your sister – like me,"

Meredith shook her head "No, it's too late for that," her pager buzzed, and she shrugged "Got to go," and walked away from her sisters. She was not sure what to do, but she knew they would not understand the dilemma she was facing or the heartbreak she was feeling. She wasn't someone who let her emotions show easily, usually she was able to suppress them, it was her hidden talent, that was her dark and twistiness side, but right now she was going to have a complete and utter breakdown, years of built up hurt, frustration and anger, all because of the sudden appearance of her long-lost sister. Life was cruel.
