AN:

So I finally finished editing the first chapter of this new fic. This idea came to me when I was rewatching episodes for another story I'm working. I have several chapters of this story written out already they just need some editing. I hope to work on City Lights this week. If not I may either post another chapter of this or post another new story.

What you need to know before reading...

Everything up to when Dylan and Brenda go away to Baja for the weekend is the same. This is probably going to be one of those trust me fics. I do have a plan wacky as it may be. ;)

Impulsive Hearts

Chapter One

Dylan carefully sat on the bed trying not to wake it's occupant. He should probably feel bad about keeping Brenda up most of the night but he didn't. Last night sleep had been the last thing on either of their minds. In fact their entire time in Mexico had been amazing. He wished it could always be his way.

When Brenda started to wake up he leaned over and placed several kisses on her bare shoulder blade. "Good morning Mr. McKay," she said rolling over and pulling him down for a kiss.

After several moments Dylan pulled away. They really didn't have the time to get distracted. "Good morning to you too, Mrs. McKay." he whispered against her lips.

"I still can't believe we got married. Are we crazy?"

He almost couldn't believe it himself and it was his idea. Dylan always doubted he'd ever get married. Who could blame him after his parents? However marrying Brenda felt right. Sure it was impulsive for him to ask last night and even more for them to actually do it. But in the light of day he didn't regret it at all. "Probably. That doesn't mean we made a mistake."

"You're right. I feel completely sure about this."

"Me too. I love you," he admitted easily. Dylan wrapped his arms around her body. It felt so good just to be able to hold her. Moments like this was why he proposed last night.

"Love you too. Ugh. I wish we didn't have to leave. My dad is going to kill you."

"I don't really care what he says anymore Bren. You're my wife not just his little girl."

She frowned at the comment. Her dad wasn't simply going to accept their news. A huge fight was inevitable, "He's not going to see it that way. We both know that."

"I hate you're in the middle of this."

"I'm not in the middle anymore," she denied press her lips briefly to his. "You and I are a team Dylan. No matter what happens with my dad."

"A team huh? I like the sound of that."

"We should probably get out here and face the music. I almost wish we could just stay here."

Not returning certainly interesting. It wouldn't permanently solve anything but time might cool everyone's temper. "Why not?" Dylan asked as he watched her get dressed. The sight tempted him to simply drag her back to bed for several more days.

"You mean stay in Mexico? Dylan you can't be serious."

"Maybe not entirely. At least not about staying here." he said a plan already starting to form. Dylan would do anything to make his wife happy. Just the fact he could say that about Brenda blew his mind.

"Okay you have me so confused right now."

"What if we took off for a little while? Let things die down. Maybe travel a bit?" he suggested carefully. While he loved Brenda he wasn't sure of her reaction.

"I don't see how leaving will solve anything." Brenda frowned in response. "And what about school? We still have a year left."

He should have known Brenda would be worried about school. One of the things Dylan loved best about her was her intelligence, "We'll finish school I promise. I don't want your mom to kill me too."

"That's not funny."

"I'll make it work." he promised intently before asking, "Do you trust me?"

"Always. I must be out of my mind but okay let's do it."

"You won't regret this."

"I better not Dylan. Do you have a plan?" Brenda asked after giving him a gentle warning. She wanted to trusted him but this was all so sudden, starting with getting married last night. It was difficult not to have doubts.

"Most of a plan. I'll have to make a couple calls when we get home." he said trying to sound more confident than he felt. Honestly leaving her even for a short time was the last thing he wanted. Seeing her confused look Dylan clarified, "We need to some of our things."

"You're right. We'll just go home and pretend nothings happened. Sounds easy enough," she muttered sarcastically half to herself.

"Just for a day. Do you think you can get out of school?"

"Probably. It shouldn't be hard."

"Good I'll pick you up around nine in the morning," Dylan said pulling her out of bed. They really needed to head back home. He wanted was to start a fight with Jim now.

"Sounds like a plan."

"So how was Mexico?" Brandon asked as they got ready for bed. He almost expected bad news with how distracted his sister had been. Something had clearly happened while she and Dylan were away. "Everything go okay?" he asked carefully.

"We had a great time. Thank you so much for covering for me. You're a great brother."

"I'm just glad you didn't get caught. Can you imagine dad's reaction?"

"I'd probably be grounded forever," she muttered half to herself. Brenda didn't even want to imagine her dads reaction. It made her sad that he was so against Dylan or at least their relationship. Disappointing him wasnt an easy thing for her to do. Maybe Dylan was right and leaving was the best for everyone.

"At least that long. Are you okay? You've been…." Brandon trailed off struggling to discribe the difference in his twin since she returned home. A couple moments later he gave up and said, "acting weird all day."

Brenda just barely suppressed a groan. Of course her brother would notice her behavior. However she couldn't help being nervous about tomorrow. "Honestly I'm not feeling very good. I think I'm coming down with something." she said turning back towards her room. She hated lying to Brandon. She was closer to him than almost anyone on the planet except Dylan. Lying to her twin almost felt wrong.

"You probably caught something while in Mexico. Serves you right for all that lying." he teased causing them both to laugh. It was the first time Brandon had seen her relax today. Truth was he was starting to worry about Brenda. Maybe tomorrow he could talk to Dylan about the last couple weeks.

"Very funny Brandon."

"Well I try. Seriously, maybe you should just take tomorrow off? Get some rest?"

"Maybe," she shrugged trying to sound casual. Brandon could usually tell when she was trying to pull something. The last thing she wanted was for him to be suspicious, "I have to convince Mom first."

"Good luck with that."

"I know sneaking off to Mexico was probably easier." Brenda grumbled sitting on the bed. It suddenly hit her the might be the last time she saw her brother for awhile. "Brandon?" she called out causing him to stop in the doorway.

"Yeah?"

"You really are the best." Brenda told him honestly. She couldn't imagine her life without him. Except she was going to have to do just that at least for a little while.

"Love you too, Bren," he replied trying not to frown. Brandon couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong. However he knew that it was pointless to ask his sister anything. She wouldn't tell him anything she didn't want to, "Now get some rest."

Dylan leaned back on the sofa as the phone rang. He had waited as late as possible to make this phone call. He was already regretting idea. When the ringing stopped he said, "Hey Iris. Is this a good time?"

"Dylan I'm surprised to hear from you so late. Or at all," she finished half to herself. It was almost unheard of for Dylan to call her. Typically she checked in with her son every few weeks. Or Cindy filled her in on the stuff he skipped over. They had become good friends over the last few months. Bonding mostly over their children dating.

"I know but I really needed to talk to you. You're the only one who can help me," he said in a rush. Asking anyone for help was difficult. He had been practically on his own for years. It was even harder for him to ask Iris for help. Dylan was still getting used to her being back in his life.

"This sounds serious. Are you in some sort of trouble?"

"No nothing like that. At least not yet. I need…" he trailed off unsure how to continue. Dylan needed her to agree because all of his plans hinged on Iris agreeing to help. "l want to know if you would change the trustee for my money."

Iris frowned at the question. Clearly something serious was wrong, "I don't understand I thought Jim Walsh was doing a good job."

"He doesn't approve of my seeing Brenda. There's so much tension. I'm just trying to find a way to ease things a little."

"If you can't handle things…"

"This isn't about me," Dylan interrupted insistently. Truthfully he didn't care much what Jim Walsh thought of him. At least most of the time. Brenda was his only concern. "I'm doing this to make things easier on Brenda. I really care about her and I hate she's in the middle of everything."

"You seem serious."

"I am Iris. Can you please help me?"

Iris was surprised at how sincere her son sounded. Although the mere fact that Dylan was calling her proved how serious he was. After a moments thought she said, "Fine but only because I like Brenda."

"Thanks. This means a lot to me. To both of us. Maybe… maybe I can come visit?" he suggested awkwardly. Dylan knew having Iris on their side would make thing a little easier. Besides Brenda would probably welcome the distraction. Even if it was weird to him how close the two of them were.

"Well I'll never turn down seeing you. When do you think you might visit?" Iris asked more than a little surprised by the idea. She figured the next time she saw Dylan would be when she visited LA again. Not that the last visit went all that well. To be honest the idea of being able to show him her life in Hawaii was very tempting. Hopefully it wouldn't end with them driving each other crazy this time.

"Soon. I'm not sure when. I might even bring a surprise for you."

"You know I hate surprises."

Dylan smiled at the look on her face when he showed up with Brenda. At least Iris would probably hear them out before she started yelling. "Not this one I promise."

"Well then I'll see you soon. Good night."

"Night Iris," Dylan said hanging with the phone. Leaning back he felt a huge weight being lifted off him. As long as Iris followed through things should work out. At least until they reached Hawaii. Who knew what would happen after she learned the news?

"Are you sure you don't want me to stay home?" Cindy asked pressing a hand to her daughter's forehead. Brenda didn't feel warm despite claiming to be sick. Although she was pale and being acting odd since yesterday. Even if she wasn't sick something was defiantly going on. "We could spend the day watching TV."

"I'm sure mom. I think I just need to rest," Brenda said sinking further down into her pillows. She was starting to feel guilty about lying to her mom. She had always tried to support her relationship with Dylan. The only trouble is telling her mom meant her dad finding out. That was the last thing Brenda wanted at the moment.

"Well if you're sure. I only have a couple errands to run. I shouldn't be gone long."

"You don't have to worry about me I'll be fine."

"I'll always worry about you and your brother. It's what parents do."

Hearing that simple statement from her mom hit Brenda hard. Disappearing would definitely cause her parents to worry. Brandon too if she was being honest. However no matter how much she hated the idea Brenda didn't see another solution. Her relationship with Dylan wasn't a mistake just because her dad didn't approve. "I love you mom."

"I love you too. Try and get some rest while I'm gone."

"I will." she promised softly. Brenda laid there until she heard the front door close. She quickly grabbed the two bags from her closet. A big part of her was uncertain about running away but she also knew her dad would never let them be together. Especially not once he found out about their marriage. Being apart from Dylan was no longer an option.

Grabbing two envelopes Brenda crossed the bathroom to lay one on her brother's bed. He was one of the only people who's reaction she worrying about. His opinion mattered more than she's wanted to admit. Going downstairs she laid the other envelope on the kitchen table. Looking around the room Brenda had to take a deep breath and remind herself this wasn't forever.

She wasn't home alone long before Dylan knocked at the door. Brenda wondered if he was sitting just outside of view. He was probably as anxious as she was. Not that he would ever admit it to her. Dylan had been a loner so long that sometimes getting him to open up was difficult. At least for most people. "Hey Beautiful," he said when she opened it. "You ready?"

"I think so."

Dylan frowned at how unsure she sounded. The last thing he wanted to do is pressure Brenda into a decision. While fighting with Jim wasn't appealing nothing mattered more than Brenda's happiness. "You know we don't have to run away. I can always just tell your dad what happened," he reminded her gently pulling her into a hug. Almost immediately she sighed and laid her head on his chest. Dylan couldn't shake how right it felt to hold her in his arms. Not even Jim Walsh was going to keep them apart.

"We both know he's going to freak out. He'll probably try and get it annulled."

He chuckled at Brenda's reaction. She was of course probably right. It would almost be worth it to see the look on her dad's face when he found out about their marriage. "Probably but I'm not just going to let you go." he promised pressing a kiss to her forehead.

"I'm not going to let you go either," Brenda agreed stepping out of his arms. Turning around she grabbed her bags. When she saw the look of surprise on Dylan's face she had to laugh. He probably expected her to bring along a lot more stuff. "I'm ready."

"Are you sure?" he pressed softly.

"Completely." she promise handing Dylan one of her bags. As they got into his car she asked, "So where to first?"

"How about Hawaii?"
