Kai Chopin put down the last tool and walked to the Chief researchers office "So Kai, what have you to report" came the harsh tone of the impatient woman "Way to bypass IS" Kai said softly as he looked at the shorter woman who was glaring at him "What did I tell you about glaring at me, I am you better" The woman yelled at Kais face, who simply closed his eyes "Sorry Ms Delacroix" the boy responded "Now explain yourself" Ms Delacroix ordered her voice still stern and harsh "Better if shown" Kai said as he beckoned Delacroix to follow him which she did.
Now Linda Delacroix was always an ambitious and arrogant woman and when the IS was introduced it only made her worse as it gave her the key to her proverbial queendom. "Why have you brought me to an IS?" She asked "I am male so IS wont react" Kai said just to receive a nod from her Kai pressed a small button on his watch and a black suit formed around him but as Linda watched several red rings glowed brightly and as Kai put his hand onto the IS the rings faded to yellowish tone before transitioning to a bright green "I bypassed the gender lock" Kai said as he stepped into the IS and started to move around only to be stopped by a furious Linda who yelled at him "Va te faire foutre, get out get out and get me all of your research on this perversion" Kai quickly dismounted and disabled the suit and discarded the watch that housed it before he walked over to his station and did as he was ordered to. "I don't see the problem" Kai thought to himself as he handed over the documents "Is this everything" Delacroix yelled "Yes ma'am" Kai responded. "Now you are not to do anymore on this project, if you do then you will be dismissed and imprisoned, now leave" Delacroix ordered "Yes ma'am" Kai said before leaving, that would be the last time that those files saw the light of day.
As Kai walked down the twisting corridors, he turned a corner only to knock down a young woman "My apology ma'am" Kai said as he helped the lady up "No, no it was my fault" the woman said "Kai are you okay?" Kai nodded, if he was not busy trying to figure out what he did wrong to Delacroix he would of instantly recognised the woman was before him. "Since you worked on my Raphael Revive Custom 2" Kai smiled and accidently interrupted the small blonde woman "Mademoiselle Dunois, how are the adjustments?" Charlottes face lit up "Oui. Ils sont merveilleux, they make me feel so free" Charlotte smiled at the much taller man who smiled back "Merci Mademoiselle Dunois, you give me hope" Kai said softly.
"Why are you out here" Kai asked Charlotte who shuffled nervously "I have a small favour to ask, can you fix my IS and remove a couple of erm bugs I found in it" Kai knew what she meant, as he had noticed them before and ushered her to a maintenance bay "Deploy then dismount, I will remove the problems" Kai smiled as he put on a long leather apron and hid his hair under a bandana. A few minutes later several small devices laid strewed across the work top "Finished now, also fine tuned the rapid switch system, should be faster" Kai said as he dabbed at his brow with a rag. "Where's your watch?" Charlotte asked "My watch" Kai murmured as he felt his wrist "Project cancelled, watch was prototype" Kai said "You noticed, keen eyes"
Charlotte was one of the few people who looked past Kais apparent glare and asocial behaviour and realised that his speech was because he was shy. "Merci Kai, All they all gone" Charlotte asked to which Kai just nodded before being hugged from Charlotte "Mademoiselle Dunois, while I appreciate the hug you are bosses daughter I can not hug you" Kai said holding his arms above his head. Charlotte quickly let go of him and blushed deeply before she changed the topic "You said your watch was a prototype, a prototype of what?" Kai scratched the back of his head in thought "It was a suit that would dup the gender lock system by converting the wearers biological output to that of a females, basically it would allow males to use the IS but I was told to shelve the project by Madame Delacroix"
Charlotte let out a small gasp which Kai found cute but would never say so. "She told you that but Kai, you have do something that not even the creator of IS could do, you are incroyable. If you want I can talk" Kai interrupted her "No, that would cause conflict I would not want that". Charlotte thought about something for a while before talking "How about you modify the suit to improve compatibility, that would likely get you promu par mon père" Charlotte said slipping back into French as they had been speaking English. Kai let out a quiet chuckle "très bien Charlotte, tu as amélioré ton anglais" Charlotte once again blushed "Merci beaucoup" She said smiling at Kai who stood a solid foot taller than herself "Tank you for help fixing my issue" Charlotte said in near perfect English "Thank not Tank" Kai pointed out politely "But the thought is appreciated"
-A few months passed-
Kai sat there in his chair holding a glass of Grand Marnier straight as he looked at the test results "Another échec, why is the suit not working" he groaned before taking a sip of his drink just putting the glass down when a knock on the door stole his attention "Oui, you may enter" he said as he opened the door to reveal a formally dressed Charlotte, she wore a soft white dress shirt, black suit trousers and jacket, while she had her long hair tied back in a low plait "Mon cher, you look stunning, but what occasion calls for you to dress as un garçon? Another party?" He asked Charlotte just nodded and then spoke "Could you do my tie, I still have not gotten the hang of a full Winsor knot" Kai just smiled and took the yellow tie, mentally taking a note of the fine silk it was made of. And as he took of her jacket, hung it on a coat hunger he stood behind her and unfastened the buttons holding her collar down then he draped the yellow silk around Charlottes slender neck and wrapped his arms around her and deftly knotted the tie but before he was done, he walked around to the front of Charlotte and adjusted the position of the tie before finishing it and then pushed the small buttons into the holes on the collar and ran his fingers along the edge to smooth it down. He got Charlottes jacket and helped her to put it on. "There all done" Kai said as he looked at Charlotte "You look incroyable, mon cher" he complemented
Charlotte gave him a quick hug before she darted off "Why could I tell him that those few moments just now where the likely the last time we would see each other" Charlotte cried in her mind as she ran to meet her father. Albert Dunois was a short portly man who cared not for family just for station and wealth, Charlotte knew that if she fell in love with a man then they would the opposite they would be tall, kind, and smart. Maybe they would even have a neat mop of fair hair and be clean shaved, with eyes that pierced the soul in an understanding way but most of all the man would have to be humble and calm.
"Charles, hurry up" Albert Dunois called out to Charlotte who quickly switched in the desired persona "Oui papa, I am here" Charles said only to be ordered to follow. While Charles and Albert entered the limousine Kai watched from a darkened window "Oh Charlotte, It pains me so that you cannot be free to be yourself due to your father" he sighed before he turned back to his new suit and begun to test it.
-A few hours later-
Kai, now clad in his suit, "PIC test at 10%" Kai spoke to the camera he set up as his suit glowed and a small breeze was emanating from him "20%" Kai said shortly before slamming into the ceiling "Ow, 11% test" Kai said after dusting himself off, he then begun to hover and after moving around freely declared the test a success and landed on the floor next to a makeshift firing range "Quantum conversion storage and materialization test, lets start simple with the SPP" Kai said as a desert eagle looking pistol formed and after a moment Kai fired it just for a bolt of laser stabilised plasma shot forth and vaporised the target "Personal note that was cool, development note: tweak power out put. Kai quickly ran through his other test "Development note All green for use" Kai then ended the recording and tweaked the power output but just as he finished he received an alert as Charlottes IS had picked up hostile units "Charlotte!" Kai gasped as he dismissed the pistol and ran out side before activating the PIC thrusters at full and shot off towards Charlotte, Kai broke the sound barrier on lift off and only accelerated.
-With Charlotte-
"Papa, are you okay" Charlotte asked her father, who simply grunted in annoyance as the limo rocked violently "Guess that idiots coreless AD field was worth installing" Albert growled as he reached for a phone integrated into the limo "Where is the security detail?" Albert huffed as an unknown voice to answer "They're dead as will you Dunshit" mocked the voice as the limo rocked again then the sound of tearing metal was heard as a mechanical hand ripped the roof off "Oh hello Dunshit and Brat" said the pilot of the hostile IS Uchigane but just as she was about to grab Charlotte the IS was hit by something human shaped and the other IS was hit by several grenades that knocked it from the air "Get your hands away from the Dunois's you salope" came the modulated voice as it raised a rifle that looked like an M85 machine gun to the Uchigane while it aimed another at the other and fired with each round that hit some armour plating on the ISs melted "F-Fall back" Cried one of the two yet before either could move the machine guns changed to sniper rifles and quickly removed their thrusters and PIC emitters causing them to crash and for their ISs to deactivate just as police vehicles pulled up and as an officer approached with his weapon drawn the figure dismissed the rifles and pointed to the two pilots "They attacked first I have sent the video to your vehicle" said the modulated figure.
After sometime Charlotte built up enough courage to speak to the suited figure and in a voice just above a whisper she asked "Kai, is that you?" The figure nodded but held a finger to where his lips would be under his full-face helmet "Are you hurt mon cher" Kai asked just for Charlotte to shake her head "Just a bit shaken and do you think you could escort us the rest of the way?" Kai nodded as another limousine pulled up and Albert climbed in followed by Charles while Kai lifted off the ground and followed them keeping an eye on his radar for hostiles but the rest of the journey went without a hitch, they even made up the lost time due to some convenient green lights courtesy of Kai, who if asked would deny ever being there, yet once the reached the airport Kai stopped following them instead he launched his Automatous Surveillance Drone which locked onto Charlottes IS and followed her and relayed a video to Kai.
Kai had never been one for goodbyes yet as he saw Charlotte board the plane a tear fell from his eye while he whispered "Au revoir mon amour" as he knew the destination of that plane was the ISA. Kai then leapt off the rooftop he was on top of before flying back to his office glad to see that the window was still open allowing to enter unnoticed. He quickly disabled the suit which vanished into a pendant that consisted of a black steel diamond shape measuring a height of 2 inches and a width of 1.5 inches, yet the diamond had a trio of different coloured sections each forming one third of a inverted triangle the colours were a pale blue for himself, sunflower yellow for Charlotte, and magenta for the first version of the Raphael Revive Custom 2 which Kai had been the first thing built by himself. Then it struck him Charlotte would need an engineer and who else than the man who built it "Parfait" Kai let out a small chuckle "Now to convince Mr Dunois" Kai said as he set about writing a plan of action for himself.
