Chapter 28: Deception

Taking a deep breath Link prepared himself for what was coming. He looked down at Quou who led him out of the small shuttle. His eyes trailed to the lifeless ships, all the different shapes and sizes. He was grasping the concept a little better now that those things could fly in the endless skies. Still he had a lot of questions that all would have to wait.

Quou looked up at Link grinning cheek to cheek. She looked like a small child ready for all sorts of excitement. Letting out a giggle she let go of Link's hand and ran up to the doors that lead into the main station.

Miles walked up putting her hand on Link's shoulder. Letting out a small chuckle she looked at Link. "You ready for this?" she asked, she could tell his attention was elsewhere. She also knew this station would be a lot for the non-merge to take in.

"Yeah." Link spoke up looking at her. Biting his lip a little he followed after Quou while trying to gather his bearings to walk into the station. Quou grabbed his hand and pulled him through the doors. The station wasn't as cramped and packed as the first station he had went to.

The station was still loud, but more of the sights could be seen. Halo-Ads floated in the air in all sorts of languages. On the walls there were Anti-Dimensional Police posters. It seemed the place didn't think too fondly of the dimensional police.

Miles followed behind, observing her environment. She had out her phone typing on it, keeping a close eye on Quou and Link. She knew that Quou could handle herself, but the Blonde, who knows. As long as one of them was with him everything should go fine here, she summarized.

Miles walked up to Link and grabbed his arm. Studying his face she moved his hair a little bit. "Don't worry. got it? You shouldn't have to do too much. Little Rei will take care of you." Miles grinned as she looked down at Quou who was holding onto his other hand.

Frowning a little he looked at her nodding his head. His attention went ahead as he heard someone call out to them. "Reachal!" Gerdan yelled out as he stood up at the table he was at. There was a man in a suit next to him. The man had long white hair and markings on his face. He stood up slowly to meet the group as they approached. He studied the group and then to Gerdan who had bent down and handed the stuffed animal that he purchased there with the help of the lawyer to the little girl.

Rei grinned as she hugged it tight. "Look! Look! Momma he got me a ted bear!" she giggled and held it up playing with it. Link patted Quou on the head. He eyed Gerdan who was clearly studying him.

Gerdan held his hand out to Link. "I'm Gerdan, nice to meet you." Link took his hand without hesitation and shook it. "Ivan." He spoke up quietly. He winced a little as Miles grabbed his hand. "We don't need small talk…" she snipped. "I'm rather not dilly daddle.. as you try to scare off my boyfriend." She moved between Link and Gerdan. "So.. who's that? A Lawyer? I thought you were just going to give me the money and be over with this!?" she snapped.

Link watched her send a flurry of attacks at this Gerdan. Glancing to Quou who whimpered a little, grabbing his hand. He bit his lip not sure how to react to Miles, though she said everything had a meaning in what she was saying.

Gerdan shook his head a little. "This is my lawyer, Dwrile. I'm not trying to cause trouble. I want to make sure everything goes smooth without any issues. And being in the position I'm in I need to make sure my butt is covered. Why don't you and Ivan sit down?" He invited them to sit. Miles shook her head. "How do I know you're not going to screw me out of the money you owe her!?" she sniped pointing at Quou.

Dwrile coughed a little. "Why don't you sit down? We all will file out the paperwork to make sure you get all of the money that is needed to raise your daughter. Mr. Gerdan here just wanted to make sure that everything was legal so in the future there would be no issues for your daughter. So please calm down, sit and let's talk about this?"

"Ugh… lawyers…" Miles muttered as she looked at her brother. "Fine…" She looked at Link. "This is going to be boring for Rei… Why don't you take a look around to see some of the sights. Come back in.." she looked over at Gerdan. "10 minutes should be enough." he finished for her.

Dwrile looked at Link and nodded. "We don't need you for the paperwork, so go ahead." He commented as he pulled out a tablet and started to open up a couple of files on it. "First off, we need to know how old do you believe she will be when she no longer needs funds."

Link listened and looked at Quou who started to pull him away. Link glanced back one last time and sighed a little. "You think it worked?"

"What worked?" Quou spoke up looking at him grinning. She looked at the teddy bear she had and hugged it. Frowning, his guess that Quou wasn't going to be breaking character any time soon. Quou led him over near a couple of stores. His attention went to some of the signs on the wall. Wanted posters, political signs and many other things. His eyes trailed to Brat's wanted poster, it had been torn and drawn on some. It seemed it had been there for awhile. Looking through all of the signs, he saw there was so much hate for the dimensional police.

"You ok, daddy?" Quou piped watching him meticulously. He seemed to be lost in his own thoughts. Nodding a little he looked at her. She held up the stuff animal to him. "This will make you feel better." He took it not sure how this was going to make him feel better.

"I want the money for the past 5 years where there was no support. And I don't want any argument about it. I raised her on my own." Fine.. no argument. It's yours." "Then I want 7 years at least for the future." Miles advised as she leaned back crossing her arms in front of her. Gerdan shook his head. "She would only be 12 at that point, Reachal. I thought you were looking out for the best for her." he said, slightly irritated. "I can go till she is 16." He studied her reaction. Every little eye movement, gesture and response was so important for him to get all the information he needed from her.

"So you really do want the best for her… till she is 16 then. I didn't think you would really go that high up so I was trying to get the most important years covered…hoping I could at least get that." Miles glossed as she looked to the lawyer who was typing up everything.

"Trust fund it all so only a certain amount be disbursed weekly." Gerdan asserted as he looked over to his lawyer. "No, what if I need some of the money for something important such as medical or the like?!" she spoke up out of concern.

"It will all be simple if she is in a medical emergency you will be able to get the needed funds out with documented papers from the hospital. Otherwise, you will only be allowed a specific amount of money per week so you do not spend the little girl's funds for your own enjoyment." the lawyer clarified. He then looked to Gerdan. "Should there be a limit on how much per year?" Dwrile asked. Gerdan didn't know exactly how this conversation would go with his lawyer adding his sayso as it just seemed to be nothing more than a conversation about how to deal with this little girl's funds. But his sisters and his questions and statements were planned; for all of it was code telling how many people were needed, how urgent it was to get there. What supplies were needed and the like.

Link looked around the store Quou pulled him into. His eyes trailed around at the odd trinkets that were in the store. Pausing in front of a set of swords, he studied them. "I like this one." Quou grinned as she pulled one out of its sheath. Link frowned at the girl, not sure if she should be touching the product.

Looking to the store owner they didn't seem to really care that they two were in there. He sighed and looked at her. "Can you put that down?" he asked. He shuddered as she turned the blade at him grinning.

Link slowly put his hand on the blade moving it away from him. "Don't point that at people." he warned her. Quou giggled at him and put it back, she ran over to something else grabbing it up and toying with it.

Groaning Link walked up and took it away. "Please.. Stop…" he begged as he set the object back. Quou smiled at him and grabbed his hand. "Come on, there is a sweet store nearby. I want candy!" she sang as she pulled him out of the store running to a nearby one.

Letting himself be dragged by the girl into the candy shop. Link looked around. It smelled wonderful scented by all sorts of different sweets. Quou let go of him running up to the counter. She looked at the woman who was running the shop. "Daddy said i could get what i wanted!" she grinned at the woman as the woman smiled back. "I want 3 of those.. And um.. 3 of them.. And OH OH! 10 of those! Um.. um.. Er.. um.. 3 of those!" She pointed to each of the candies and the woman and started to collect them for the girl.

Link shook his head, crossing his arms still holding onto the stuffed animal. He looked out of the store, wondering if Miles was done yet or not. This all seemed wrong. What more it felt like Quou was acting like this was a game. Him, playing daddy while who knows what could be happening to Autum and the others.

"Daddy…." Quou looked up at him as she held the bags of candy that she had bought. She studied him and she pulled on his arm. "Come on daddy…." She spoke up quietly to him. She pulled him out of the store.

"Daddy… I know mommy is talking with that man. But she needs to. It is very important. We can't just sit and wait it out. You know time goes super super slow then. So it doesn't hurt to have candy." Quou smiled at him as she offered him a piece of toffee.

Link studied her as she tried to explain like a kid would without breaking her character. Still all felt wrong about what they were doing. What more it felt like they were doing nothing. It was hard to even wrap his head around what Miles said she was doing. He turned down the piece of candy.

"Come on mommy should be done by now! Let's go see, Daddy." She grabbed his hand pulling him back to where they left Miles. She was sitting alone at the table. Miles looked to the bags that were set on the table and grinned. She grabbed one of the bags as she looked at Quou who climbed up on a chair. "How it go, mommy!?"

Miles chuckled as she pulled out a piece of the sweet chocolate that was there. "Very very good. Ah.. you always pick the best don't you, sweetie?" she smiled as she took a bite of it. Her attention went to Link who sat down. He stared at the table. It was clear his mind wasn't in this all.

"Ivan.." Miles spoke up, she watched him. "Ivan." she snapped as Link looked at her. His attention went to her hand as she held a piece of candy to him. "Try it. " Miles frowned as he gave her a distrustful look. "Don't give me that look, promise you will like it."

Letting out a sigh of defeat he took it. He took a bite of it and his ears perked up some. He never tasted anything so sweet, but part of him was feeling guilty for enjoying sweets. "Get your head out of whatever you're thinking about. Enjoy what moment we have here, got it?" Miles lectured him. "Moments like this are rare. I doubt you really have had a moment to just sit and just look around where you are. Look." she pointed out some large tall creatures who were walking through the station. "There are all sorts of different species here, some I don't even know what they are. Take this time to just enjoy the sights, before we have to get our game faces on. We still have some time to burn."

Link listened to her and he ran his hand through his hair trying to take in what she said to him. He looked to Quou who had taken out all the candy from the bags setting on the table. His eyes trailed away from the two as he looked out to the shops. Knowing they still had time to burn before they could even leave there.
