Chapter 36: Cleanup Job

A loud bang hit up against the privacy wall. Link sat up bashing his head into the low ceiling. He let out a moan as he held his head as he laid back. It seemed he had forgotten about the ceiling.

"Link are you ok?!" Navi cried out as she stood up on his chest. She looked at him as he rubbed his forehead some. She looked to the buttons pushing the button to open up the wall. She vanished as he slowly rolled out from the bunk.

Link stood up rubbing his head. He looked to Gotenoo who seemed to have whacked the back of her head. At least he wasn't the only one who wasn't accustomed to the sleeping quarters. No sign of Zigor. He looked back at the bunk and his privacity wall was still closed. Was he able to sleep through whatever that was?

"What you making?" Gotenoo spoke up as she walked up to the table where Quou was sitting. Link glanced at Gotenoo and walked up. It was an odd sight, it seemed Quou was hand sewing something. He would have thought everything would be by the machines now.

Quou grinned as she held it up. It was a very small robe. "It's for Navi. The fabric will keep her from being scanned by the bio scanners." She explained as she looked to Navi. Navi smiled as Quou held it to her for her to take. Studying it she landed on the table. She put it on and looked back. It had a cape that covered her wings. It was a silvery shiny fabric. She raised up her wings and the cape sat between them. She smiled as she pulled the hood over her head and looked to Quou.

"Perfect. You will have to wear that when we switch ships." Quou smirked. She looked up to Link and Gotenoo who had their attention on something else. They were looking at the sketches of themselves on the table. She had drawn up pictures of Link, Gotenoo and Zigor to figure out their make up for this mission.

Gotenoo picked up the drawing and then looked at Link's, laughing. "Seems you are going to be a redhead now." She smiled at him. She was doing everything she could to try to keep her chin up. She feared the worst for her family and friends. She feared this mission would fail like the last one.

Link chuckled a little as he looked at the drawing of him. It was very well done, looked to be done with pencil and something else to color it. He glanced at Navi who was hovering next to him studying the drawing.

"Get him up if you would Miles" Quou looked at Miles who was sitting down. Miles had some green markings on her face. She had green hair with blue in it. It seemed everyone was getting decked out for this. Miles got up walking over to the bunk where Zigor was. She started to hit her hand against the privacy wall. "Get up long ears!" she snapped.

Gotenoo chuckled a little, Zigor could sleep through about anything. "Gotenoo." She looked at Quou who tossed a hairbrush to her. "Take her hair tie out and brush that in your hair." Gotenoo nodded doing what Quou told her to. Her hair started to become a green color with every stroke.

Link looked to Quou who held a brush to him." I believe you know how this works." she said as she smiled at him. Nodding, Link glanced to the picture of himself Quou had hand drawn. He took note that his ears were perked higher than normal. He didn't want to know how she was going to be doing that. He glanced to Quou who got up from her chair walking up to Zigor who had finally got up from his bunk.

Zigor yawned as he stretched some. Looking to the two as they were brushing their hair. He chuckled a little. "How sensitive are your ears?" Quou questioned him. Zigor eyed her not sure what the question was for. "Rather…" He yelped as she grabbed his ear.

"Hm.. hm.." Quou hummed as she walked away from him thinking. She walked up to her table grabbing a couple of drawings she had of Zigor. She started to flip through them trying to figure out what she could do. "Over here sit." Quou spoke up as she grabbed Miles' seat moving it next to hers.

Link looked to Miles who headed out of the room. There was a man standing at the door. His guess that it was Brat's finance, Cow. He frowned a little, not sure what to think of him. He had grey hair that was braided back. He wasn't sure if that was how he normally looked since Miles had dressed up. He looked to his own bangs that were now a dark red.

Miles walked up to Cow who was obviously watching the group. "You should go introduce yourself to her. I mean worst case she punches you, right?" Miles smirked. "Plus it's better to get this out of the way before we get on the shuttle." She then headed out of the room.

Cow let out a sigh. He watched her walk away. He wasn't really expecting any type of motivational speech and what she gave was truly far from one. He was trying to figure out what he wanted to even say to Gotenoo. He already didn't have the best first impression with Zigor. Taking a deep breath clearing his mind he walked up to the group.

Gotenoo set the brush down on the table. She held her green hair and smiled weakly. Her attention went to the man who walked up to her. "Hello Gotenoo. I have heard so much about you, it's good to finally meet you. I am Cow, Brat's fiance."

Staring at Cow, she didn't know how to react. Was this man really her sister's fiance? She glanced at Zigor who was watching. Shaking her head she looked at Cow saying the first thing that came to her. "Why didn't you stop her from her turning herself in!? If you were her fiance you would have stopped her! Why?! Why are you here now?! You should of been here when we needed you! You're a fake! She would have told us all about you!" She yelled at him.

The room got quiet as the group stared at the two. Link looked to Cow, why wasn't he with Brat when they had met her? He looked to Navi who clearly was interested in the answer as well.

Cow looked at her, she looked like she might cry. Searching for the right words, "Brat wanted to save your dad. Being how she was, she didn't want me to get hurt or worse. So she left me behind and tried to do it alone. If she hadn't drugged me, Gotenoo. I would have stopped her and we would have figured a safer way to save father and your aunt. This mess would have been avoided, but you know how reckless she can be when she is trying to 'protect' the ones she cares about. You may think I'm a liar or a fake, but I will save her and prove who I am to you."

Gotenoo bit her lip trying not to cry. Why did Brat have to do such stupid things. "I-I… I just want them back.." She spoke quietly. Looking up to Cow as he hugged her. She buried her head in his chest as she started to cry. "We will save them, all of them I promise you." He spoke quietly as he held her.

Navi smiled looking at the two. It seemed that man wasn't so cold hearted as the impression his appearance seemed to give. She glanced to Zigor who let out a small whine from Quou messing with his ears. It seemed she was testing how sensitive they were.

Link watched Quou and frowned some. He hoped she wasn't going to be messing with his ears that much. "Your ears are just so sensitive.. what more very distinctive for your species." Quou complained. She grabbed a hairbrush handing it to Zigor. "Do that while I think and get the other two along." Quou spoke as she grabbed some clothes setting it on the table and then another set.

Zigor rubbed his ears as he looked at Cow and Gotenoo. He still wasn't sure what to think of the man. He glanced to the door as Miles walked in. "You coming, Cow?"

Cow let go of his fiance's sister. Looking to Miles he nodded. Glancing at Gotenoo as she looked up at him. "You stay here get yourself ready to save her. When we get her out you can give her a lecture for being an idiot along with your father." He headed to the door trying to keep himself on track.

"Navi, come on. We need a lift to the planet." Miles instructed the fairy. Navi appeared on her shoulder. "Er.. aren't we landing?" she questioned her. "No, they would detect the ship and that would toss up a red flag." Miles informed her.

They walked into the docking bay. Navi's ears went low, the group all had guns and weapons out. All of them had different colored hair some even had facial prosthetics as well. Looking to Cow as he picked up a gun off of a crate readying himself for what they were going to do. "What is going on?" Navi looked at them.

"Clean up job." Ryuk smirked. "Means, no survivors." Jacob just then walked into the room. His face was totally different as he couldn't risk being recognized. "Had to open your big mouth, Ryuk." He then looked to the faerie "It means Navi, I want you to teleport back up here as soon as you drop us off." he told Navi.

"B-but.." Navi looked at them. They were going to go kill the group they were replacing? She didn't like that idea. From what Eznik had said… they were all on the wrong side but still. She looked to Jacob with pleading eyes. "This isn't' up for discussion, young lady! The decision has already been made. You have no part in it. All you have to do is teleport us down there, that's all your part is. If he hadn't opened up his big mouth you would have been none the wiser and done it without a second thought." He reinforced to her.

Navi flew up in front of him shaking her head in her protest. "This is on the rest of us. Your hands will not be bloodied by this slaughter. What is being executed is all of our choices. How we wanted to deal with it. What we thought it to be the best way is also the safer play. We need to go now. So whatever emotions you have, put on a stiff upper lip and teleport us down on the planet." He spoke sternly to her "Before we are tracked. The longer the ship sits here the more chances of that."

Navi looked down at her hands. She nodded some, she was shaking at the thought of this group just going to go in and slaughter unsuspecting people. Her eyes trailed to Cow, would Brat approve of his actions?

Gathering her thoughts she held out her hands with that they were on the planet. She jumped off of Miles. She was told to go back but… She watched the group dart towards the shuttle that was landed. There were a group outside playing cards, none of them expecting what was going to happen.

Navi wanted to scream out to warn them. Her lips trembled even if she wanted to, it was over. Staring at the aftermath of the group she was helping. The group who was playing cards were on the ground dead. Autum's squad stood in the middle of them, though Jacob was missing from the group.

Navi shivered as she heard two gunshots go off from inside of the ship. She shook her head covering her ears. She fluttered down to the ground whimpering. It all was too fast, she froze up. They weren't innocent people, right? But they could have just been doing their jobs and the so-called 'good' guys just came in and slaughtered them.

"You were told to teleport back." A gruff voice spoke up. Looking up to who was speaking to her. Whimpering a little as she watched Cow bend down in front of her. "I-I" She didn't know what to say. He held out his hand to her. "Come on.." He spoke quietly.

Once she got up on his hand he started to walk away from the shuttle landing site. He walked up to a tree and sighed some as he leaned against it looking down at the broken little faerie in his hand. He was back up in case something went wrong, but it was clear that Jacob's group knew how to handle themselves. He was also sure they still were testing his loyalty, not willing to put him in the lead.

Now here he was trying to comfort a small faerie. This wasn't his thing but, their mission relied heavily on her. He needed to do his best to try to keep her spirits up. He couldn't risk this girl messing up this mission to save Brat.

"There is no good or evil. Everything is just survival. If we had let them live, then we would have been killed the moment we got to the station. We had to make the choice of who lived. It won't seem or even feel right. But it was a choice we had to make to be able to stay alive." Speaking as honestly as he could to her, he didn't know her. So it was all he could give her was the harsh truth.

"You might be from a place where there was an obvious black and white. Here; all that there is, are just shades of grey. There is no clear evil.. Just whatever side you are on. Who knows if it is right or wrong. Each side prays to their own gods and goddesses hoping for the best. You just take what you want to believe and you strive to survive by it." Cow spoke as he looked at her.

Navi's ears were low. "Just." Navi looked away. "It seems so wrong.. I mean weren't they just doing their job? I mean couldn't we have captured them or something?" She spoke up trying to make sense of it. Trying to believe that they should have picked a different route.

"No. If we took that chance and tied them up, drugged or restrained them or something of the sort, if one got loose it would be all over for us and all those depending on us to rescue them. We would all be dead. We wouldn't even get to step foot on that station. The plan would be a failure before we even left this planet. We took the guarantee route to make sure this mission does not fail. And besides this was not on you. It was Jacob and his team's choice to do that."

Navi bit her lip. "W-what would you have done?" Cow looked at her. He had told Brat he would stop the killing, but. "I would've done the same. There's just too much at risk. It was the smart move. This is our only way of getting Brat and the others out of there and keeping us half-way safe." Watching her expression, he let out a small sigh.

"Teleport back, go be with your friends. You need to get whatever you are thinking out of your mind. The best people you can talk to are them." Cow suggested. Watching her vanish he next looked over to the bushes. "I assume you're part of this mission was to watch me?" he presumed as he leaned back against the tree crossing his arms.

Kris walked out of the bushes smirking as she nodded.. "Can't really have a fire starter burning people alive, can we? Way too much noise." She stood studying him "Yeah, the kid might think you are who you say, but you haven't earned any of our trust yet. This was one of the key points in this mission and we wanted to see what side you really play on."

"Satisfied?" Cow questioned her. Watching her walk up to him. Kris nodded some. "For the most part. Though you did leave your post." Cow glanced away. "Looked like you all had it handled. It's clear we had the upperhand in that, they didn't expect anyone to come in."

Kris nodded. "True.. Come on, we need to finish cleaning up the mess and you get to help with that." Kris waved for him to follow.

Link and Gotenoo walked into the barracks. They had gone to find a place to change in private. Link was now garbed in a red shirt and tan pants. His hair was spiked up. He had red contacts to change his eye color.

As for Gotenoo her hair was green and her skin was now a light brown. The longer part of her hair was braided and she had some vines in her hair. She had on a tight green shirt and brown pants to match her demeanor.

Gotenoo giggled a little as she looked at her friend who was a bit distraught from Quou dressing him up. Zigor's skin was a light blue and his ears were decked out to look more frilly like fish fins. She had made his ears stand upward more, so all the detail in his ears could be seen.

Link chuckled as he walked up looking at Zigor. Zigor frowned as he looked at Link and Gotenoo. "Why don't they get all the makeup and extras?" he whined to Quou who was searching through her make up box.

"Your species is very identifiable by your ears. Since you are a.. " Quou paused knowing the teen didn't like the slave part to be brought up. "Huthantus… So I needed to make sure your ears looked different. Those two on the other hand, have nothing that stands out."

Zigor let out a sigh, as he moved his blue hair out of his face. His eyes trailed to Link who picked up the picture that Quou had drawn of Zigor. He looked to Gotenoo, he smiled some. Reminded him of the three goddesses, each of the elements. He was Din, Zigor would be Nayru and Gotenoo would be Farore.

Link jumped a little as Navi appeared in front of him. He dropped the paper and it hit the table. "N-navi" he gasped startled. He looked at her as she flew up grabbing his collar and buried her face in his collar of his shirt. He slowly moved his hands to her and moved his finger on her back. "Navi, did something happen down there?"

The others had their attention locked on the two. Navi shook her head. "No.. everyone is ok.. Everyone is.." she stammered. "I-I" She didn't know what to say. She still wasn't sure how she felt.

Zigor looked at Quou hoping she might be able to explain something. Quou got up grabbing the set of clothes she had for Zigor. "The group down there killed the guards who we all are replacing." She explained.

Gotenoo stared at her. "Why didn't they just subdue or drug them? I mean we didn't have to kill them." She questioned shaking her head. " Why? You should've told us we could have helped! We could have solved it without anyone being killed."

Quou let out a sigh, there was a reason her husband and the others kept it from them but the faerie knew, so, soon would the others. "Because that is how we do things. Got it? We don't take chances. It's how we survive. We learned that the hard way now we take no chances." Quou held up her finger at the girl. "This wasn't on you or your group. Their blood is on our hands, do you understand that? It's something we have to deal with, not you."

Gotenoo looked down nodding a little. She glanced at Zigor who was staring at the table. She slowly walked over to a chair and sat down. She fiddled with her hands together.

Link's heart had sunk. He knew why Navi would be upset. From what Eznik told them, just people on the wrong sides. Were they really on the right path? Or was he mistakenly going down a path of wrong?

Quou shook her head. "Get dressed.'' She held the outfit to Zigor. "None of you have time to linger on this. It had nothing to do with any of you. It was our choice and we planned this mission ok. The show must go on and we all need to be at our 're all fighters, well except for the faerie. Do you think when we get to the station there is not going to be bloodshed? Do you think everyone is going to walk out alive? I thought you understood what you got yourselves into."

Zigor looked at the clothes and he grabbed them getting to his feet. He walked out of the room, he didn't like the idea that they were left out of some of the plans as well. Even if that was their choice they still should've informed them.

Link sat down in a chair holding Navi who was sitting on his hands. She was staring at his hand not sure what to even say about all of it. She didn't want to say that she had seen the group get slaughtered on top of it all. She closed her eyes.

Quou looked at the group and they were all down. She looked to the door wishing the others would get back. They might be better at explaining it to these kids than she was. And she also feared they might be able to do what is expected of them to survive on this mission up ahead.
