Chapter.5
Meet Mr. and Mrs. Crescent The Music Fanatics
Dianes POV
My parents are nice people and love music so I know as a fact that they will love Rick since he plays guitar.
"Mom, Dad, I'm home and I brought my friend", I announced walking into my house, Rick trailing close behind hands shoved in his front hoodie pocket with his backpack hanging off his shoulder by one strap and his guitar strapped securely across his chest.
"Diane, oh hello you must be the Ricky Diane talks about so much", my mom said. "Hello Mrs. Crescent it's nice to meet you", Rick said shaking my moms hand, "you may call me Allison", my mom prefers to be called by her first name instead of formalities. "Welcome home sweetie", I got hugged by my father from behind. "Hi dad, this is Ricky, my friend, I pointed my head towards the blue haired boy, "ah hello, you can call me Dennis", my dad held out his hand, "hello, nice to meet you", Rick said.
My parents wanted to get to know Rick more so our whole day was not full of homework but of talking.
Ricks POV
I liked Diane's parents they seem really nice.
"So Rick, Diane tells us you play the guitar and I also see you brought yours, can you play something for us", Allison asked her eyes sparkling with interest. I looked between her and her husband who instantly liked the idea and their daughter who nodded. "Uh, sure", I said and pulled out my guitar.
Elevator buttons and morning air,
Strangers silence makes me want to take the stairs,
If you were here we'd laugh about their vacant stares,
But right now,
My time is theirs.
Seems like there's always
Someone who disapproves,
They'll judge it like they know about me and you,
And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do,
The jury's out,
And my choice is you.
So don't you worry your pretty little mind,
People throw rocks at things that shine,
And life makes love look hard,
The stakes are high,
The waters rough,
But this love is ours,
You never know what people have up their sleeves,
Ghosts from your past gonna jump out at me,
Lurking in the shadows with their lip gloss smiles,
But I don't care,
'Cause right now you're mine,
And you say,
So don't you worry your pretty little mind,
People throw rocks at things that shine,
And life makes love look hard,
The stakes are high,
The water's rough,
But this love is ours
And it's not theirs to speculate,
If it's wrong and,
Your hands are tough but they are where,
My belong in,
I'll fight their doubt and give you faith with this song for you.
'Cause I love the gap between your teeth,
And I love the riddles that you speak,
And any snide remarks from your father about my tattoos will be ignored,
'Cause my heart is yours.
So don't you worry your pretty little mind,
People throw rocks at things that shine,
And life makes love look hard,
And don't you worry your pretty little mind,
People throw rocks at things that shine,
But they can't take what's ours,
They can't take what's ours,
The stakes are high,
The water's rough,
But this love is ours
As I ended singing the whole family was in awe.
"Rick, that was beautiful", Allison said Dennis nodded.
We all just talked about music until Diane spoke, "as nice as this is, Ricky we really should do our homework", my eyes widened, "oh god, I forgot about that, yeah, thank you so much for letting me play", I said and fallowed Diane to her room to do homework.
"Wow, that was too much math for one class", Diane said from her desk while I sat on the floor, "it's not that bad if you know how to do it", I said and Diane smiled, "you some kind if genius or something", Diane joked. I looked up at her, "actually, I guess I kind of am, I could skip tons of classes and still get an A+ on tests without any lessons. I'm not trying to brag but you are right", I said. Diane stared at me, "ok Ricky, no one can be that smart though", she laughed.
"Hey Diane, I was wondering if you would, I don't know um, wanna go out with me...sometime", I could have said that so much better. I looked at Diane, she stared at me then smiled, "yeah, sounds like fun", she said and I smiled. We continued our homework until Diane came down to my level, I looked at her, "Ricky, can I see your eye", she asked, I felt the eyepatch. "It's awful Diane it is", I said. Diane placed her hands on my cheeks so I looked straight in her eyes, "I don't care, please, let me see", she said, I sighed and took off the eyepatch, I had my eyes closed and when I opened them Diane gasped. I went to the bathroom and looked. The white part of my eye was red and I had a scar on my eyebrow with the fading outline of a small bruise.
"Ricky, who or what did that to you", Diane asked walking into the bathroom wrapping her arms under mine over my chest pressing her face into my back. "It's not important D, I'm ok and it's healing", I said.
As I left the house I told Diane I'd pick her up at her house at 8:00 the next day for our date.
Mortys POV
Summer and I sat on a park bench, "grandpa Rick never said anything about this", Summer said throwing her face into her hands. I said nothing, I never imagined my grandpa in a situation like that, he always seems so strong around everyone without a care in the world, I guess this shaped him into the man he is today. "It's ok Summer, he's still around today right", I said patting my sisters back. "Morty, you don't understand, my friend used to be abused by her father, abuse is not any joke Morty", she said finally looking at me tears running down her cheeks. "Summer, maybe we should just go home", I suggested, I knew this wouldn't be the last time we'd see Rick in a god awful situation. "NO, Morty we came here to learn about our grandma and fuck it that's what we're gonna do", Summer said and stood up. I stood up seconds later and fallowed my sister wherever she went, this was HER adventure.
Summers POV
Morty and I had seen some awful things happen. Grandpa Rick never showed any weakness so it was hard to believe that this young boy we see with a heart of gold is our stone cold grandpa. Morty said that all this made Grandpa Rick into the man he was today. I just hated the fact that our grandpa went through abuse and why had we never heard of great uncle Erin?
Ricks POV
"Come on big brother", Erin said looking at what I was wearing. "You look great", Erin added, I was in a purple v neck t shirt with blue jeans. "Erin, no offense but, I am gonna wear something fancier, say like a button up white shirt, black jeans, black tie, and black dress shoes", I said looking at Erin with a mischievous grin. "Finally, a chance to raid dads closet", Erin whispered, I nodded and we headed to our parents room. Our dad was out so he wouldn't know and we saw our mom passed out in their bedroom on the bed bottles of alcohol littered all around. Erin and I tiptoed into the closet as I grabbed a shirt and tie while Erin grabbed the shoes.
"Wow Ricky, you look great", Erin said seeing me dressed up all fancy with my spiky blue hair sticking out at all angles not that I could do much about it. "One more thing", I said and took the eyepatch off and grabbed sunglasses. "Rick, can I see, you never showed me", Erin sighed. I opened my injured eye and looked straight at my little brother. "Dad said he was going easy, that doesn't look easy to me", Erin sounded like he was gonna cry. "Hey, buddy, don't cry, the red will go away, it's just a busted blood vessel, it'll be gone end of this month, or at least most of the red and I didn't lose my vision right", I knelt down in front of my little brother holding him by the shoulders. Erin nodded slightly. "How bout I take you to meet Diane and we can drop you off at your friend Ally's while I'm gone yeah", I said. Erin seemed to brighten up a little bit. I pulled out my phone and called Diane.
"Hey, Diane, I'm gonna pick you up a little earlier ok, I have someone I want you to meet too", I said "ok, that's works I'm almost ready anyway, see you soon", Diane replied, "yep, see you soon", I ended the call and sighed, "ok Erin get some pajamas, Diane and I will probably be out late and I don't want you here alone with mom and dad", I said and helped my brother pack up.
