Disclaimer: I do not own Percy Jackson, that honor belongs to Rick Riordan.

Once upon a time, a sixteen year old prince named Percy was longing for adventure. He wanted to feel worthy for his father, king of the kingdom of Skew because all that his father thought of him as was the next king. He left, on horseback with a sword and shield, unnoticed by everyone in the kingdom and went south. The kingdom south of Skew was Rivertoll. When Percy entered the kingdom of Rivertoll he started to hear rumors about a mysterious object long forgotten called "The Lighting Rod."

"Fair maiden, I am one who longs for adventure, do you know of any?" Percy asked a girl with long blonde hair.

"You could go up to the highest tower and ask the oracle, but I think that 'The Lightning Rod' has been missing for centuries. If you were to find it, you would be called a hero for the rest of your life," the maiden replied.

"Thank you fair maiden," Percy started to walk away, but then he remembered, "I forgot to ask for you name, fair maiden."

"My name is Anabeth," Anabeth answered.

"And my name is Percy," Percy stated.

Percy went towards the castle with the highest tower and began to climb. He walked up 50, 100, 200, 400 steps until finally he got to the top. He stopped for a minute to look around the room. The room was immaculate, except for the rotting human carcass in the center of the room, chained to a chair. There was a desk with a stack of spell books, paper, ink, and quills. There were no windows in the room, only the one door, and a coned roof that looked like it went on forever. He went up to the human carcass and asked for its wisdom.

"Oracle, I require a quest," Percy stated.

At first nothing happened, Percy started to walk away when a green mist started to come out of the oracle's eyes, mouth, ears, and nose. Then the oracle spoke…

"You will go east to find what you desire."

"In the land without water, you will fight with fire."

"Beware looking for fame only."

"For you will end forever lonely."

Percy ran down the steps, it felt a lot shorter this time, and out onto the street. He started running towards his horse, and ran directly into Anabeth.

"Uh… uh… Percy… um… good afternoon," she stuttered.

"Good afternoon, Anabeth," he replied

He could see her cheeks turning beet red.

"Well, I better get going, I got a quest from the oracle."

"Oh… uh… see you then, oh yeah and congratulations."

"Thank you, see you around."

Percy ran to his horse and hopped on.

"Bye!" Percy yelled.

"Bye!" Anabeth yelled back.

Percy and his horse went east for about 3 days, until they reached a desert. After walking five minutes into the desert it looked like it would never end. All Percy could think about was Anabeth, he was feeling to feel drowsy and he could have sworn he saw Anabeth a couple of times yelling at him to wake up. He was very close to being out of water now and his horse was starting to walk slower. Until finally he saw a tiny grass plateau with a tiny pond with water and a single tree, he commanded his horse to go over there. He dipped his hands in and immediately the water turned from blue to a fiery red, he felt an intense burning sensation in his hands and arms. He had forgotten the oracle's warning.

"In the land without water, you will fight with fire," shot through Percy's mind.

The lava rose out of the pond, leaving a small hole, and creating a giant, ten foot tall lava monster that looked like it had at least two times the strength of Percy. The monster ripped the tree out of the ground, immediately setting it ablaze, and slammed it into the sand. This caused the horse to let out a terrified whinny and spit at the monster. The horse's spit landed on the monsters foot and he let out a horrified growl, as his foot turned to solid rock, unable to be moved.

"He is weak to water… very weak," Percy thought to himself.

Percy grabbed his canteen with the little water he had left in it and splashed it on the monster, it hit and slid down to everywhere but the monster's face. The horse knew what Percy was doing and spit at the monster's face, turning it to stone. Once defeated the monster dissolved and the desert turned into a lush grassland with rivers and trees, the hole in the plateau filled with water and the tree grew back.

Percy and his horse rested up and refilled on water for a day then they continued going east. They knew they were going east because Ursa Major always faces north, so 90 degrees to the right of Ursa Major is east. About 4 days later they reached a massive cavern with a single rope bridge leading across. Percy left his horse tied up to a tree and slowly, carefully, and cautiously went across. The bridge let into a small cave, there was a torch in the holder and he lit it. As soon as it was lit, Percy felt something slam into the back of his head…

When Percy woke up he was in a dimly lit room with two trolls looking down at him. He tried to move, only to be found that he was bound with rope to a boulder.

"Let me go this instant," Percy yelled.

"I don't know about that, Grunk, what do you say?" One of the trolls asked.

"Huh, what'd ya say, Brunk?" Grunk questioned.

"I said, what do you want to do with him?" Brunk replied, irritated.

"Oh, oh, I know, we should ask him three riddles, and if he gets them right we let him go with our treasure, but if he gets even one of them wrong, we pound him to dust," Grunk stated.

"Uhg, you and your stupid riddles, fine, you can deal with him, I'm tired," Brunk grumbled.

"You said you had a treasure?" Percy questioned.

"Yeah "The Lighting R-" Grunk began.

"SHUT UP!" Brunk yelled.

"The Lightning R-? The Lightning Rod!, you have The Lightning Rod!" Percy yelled.

"NO!" Both trolls yelled back.

They tried, even though Percy knew, he knew they had The Lightning Rod, what he had gone on this adventure for, he knew he had to beat these riddles.

"First riddle," Grunk stated, "I'm tall when I'm young, but I'm short when I'm old. What am I?"

"That is easy, a candle, it is tall when it has not been used, but short when it has been burned down," Percy replied.

"Correct, second riddle," Grunk stated, starting to look worried, "What is so fragile that even saying its name breaks it. What am I?"

"That one is harder, but I think I know the answer," Percy replied "silence."

"Correct, final riddle," Grunk began.

"Make this one harder, the other two were too easy," Brunk added.

"Okay, final riddle, "Journey without it and you will never prevail, but have too much of it and you will surely fail?" Grunk asked.

"I don't know this one, but I am going to guess and say, food," Percy guessed.

"Wrong!" the trolls laughed.

The trolls turned their hands into fists and began to dance around Percy.

"Wait, what was the answer then?" Percy asked.

"Confidence," Grunk replied.

Then the two trolls began to move their fists down toward Percy.

"No!," a familiar female voice yelled.

The trolls did not hear the voice and continued to move their fists down, faster, and faster, and faster. When their fists should have hit Percy, he did not feel anything. Instead when he looked down he saw Anabeth's lifeless body clutching a dagger, the ropes cut off around him, and one dead and one very angry troll. Percy grabbed Anabeth's dagger as the troll's fist slammed into the ground behind him. Percy turned around and threw the dagger hitting the troll in the chest, the troll stumbled backward, clutching his chest, and fell backward into the giant cavern.

Percy picked up Anabeth's lifeless corpse and The Lightning Rod, and walked all the way back to Rivertoll where he buried her, that is when he realized that he really loved her. After the funeral, Percy walked back to his home kingdom Skew, and showed his father The Lightning Rod. His father now saw him as an adventurer, not just the next heir to the throne. The next day Percy went to his chambers and some people claim to have not seen him come out in 50 years, some people claim that when they walked by his chambers they could hear him weeping in sadness. He was found dead 70 years later, in his chambers, at age 86. He never married or loved anyone else.
