Chapter 3: McNally and Williams
This particular shift or week in general was going to be shit. Andy could just feel it already and she didn't even know who she was riding with yet.
Andy's morning started with imidiate frustration. As her alarm went off she got an undinable serge of pain shooting through her abdomen. Good grief being a lady sucked sometimes. Andy shut off her alarm and tried to roll over to relieve the pain. She actually succeeded but that was a problem because she fell back to sleep for 30 more minutes.
Then she woke in a panic, didn't have time for a shower, or coffee, or food. Just clothes on and running… literally running down the street to the station. Which only made her cramps worse.
Finally she got to work and looked at her watch 7:54. She had 6 minutes to change and make it to parade. She made it and even had time to go pee. Now for parade.
"Good Morning Coppers!"
Andy had already tuned out. All she noticed was the pain surging through her abdomen again. "Ugh." She whispered. She was sitting between Nash and Epstein and both looked at her with eyebrows raised up.
"Pairings today are Swarek and our new transfer Price, Epstein and Shaw, McNally and Williams, Diaz in booking and Nash and Peck."
All her friends were talking about the new transfer. Chloe Price. They had actually all met her 2 nights ago at The Black Penny. She and Dov had really gotten along and ended up disappearing before 10. Dov didn't know till this moment she was a cop. He had a lot of emotions on his face. Shock, regret, happiness, lust… just a lot of different things.
Andy looked at Sam. He would be riding with Price today. She wanted to ride with him. When she felt like this he would most times be able to tell and he would surprise her with something sugary and caffeinated and maybe chocolate. He had really figured out what she liked.
Andy heard her staff sergeant finish with "Serve, Protect, Get some bad guys!"
Andy and Noelle would be in 1515 today and off they went.
It mostly was a quiet day and Andy was thankful.
"McNally, are you alright?" Noelle asked.
Andy looked over she had been zoned out trying not to feel the pain.
"Um… I am fine… just not feeling well."
"Do we need to go back to the barn? You wanna go home?"
"No. No. I'm not sick… I just have… cramps. I'm just cramping. I will be fine."
Noelle understood but zoned out in her own head because she just realized she had not had her period in over 6 weeks. Stress maybe… but she was dating Frank.
"Noelle could we stop for our meal? I need a coffee."
"Uh, Sure McNally." Noelle drove the car to a diner and noticed next door was a drug store… she was thinking she might just need an item from there.
"McNally, go ahead in. I'm going to run over to the pharmacy and pick up something. Do you want some pain relievers?"
"Sure, I have some in my locker but I didn't think to bring any… that would be great!"
Andy went into the diner and got a booth. She ordered a sugary sweet Frappuccino and 2 waters.
Noelle came in and they had a nice lunch.
Back in the cruiser Noelle let Andy drive and was on her phone texting. Andy didn't mind because she was full and had taken 2 pain relievers and had her sugary coffee and was just in a better mood.
They patrolled for 2 hours with only 3 small calls for disturbances. Then they heard one scary call on their radio. It was Sam's voice and he was nervous. Andy could hear it.
"Dispatch, 1504 – We have multiple shots fired at police. 10-33 Price and I are out gunned and nearly surrounded. 10-33!"
"10-4 1504. All available units report to 583 Spadina Avenue."
Andy looked at Noelle who quickly put her phone in her pocket, flipped the lights and sirens and grabbed the radio.
"1515 en route." She said into it.
Andy carefully turned the car around heading for Spadina Avenue. Noelle could tell Andy was nervous so she did what Andy liked best. She talked.
"Andy, with a call like this we make sure we follow protocol. We show up. We take down anyone we can without shooting. If we have no alternative, we shoot. Sammy knows what to do and he will do his damnedest to protect himself and Price. You know that. So breathe and have some faith."
"I know. He just sounded… "Andy started.
"Yes. He did. I've known Sam for a long time Andy and I have heard him sound like that maybe twice before. That's why he called for help. He knows he needs it."
"I don't think that makes me feel better Noelle."
"I know. Just think of all the booze we are all going to drink after we save their asses." Noelle tried to joke to calm Andy, but she just couldn't shake the bad feeling that had creeped in.
Andy and Noelle got back in the car after helping to clear the scene. Sam took a bullet to his vest and was sore and frustrated but going to be fine and Chloe Price was on her way to Toronto General with a suspected broken arm, she was shot and the bullet was stuck somewhere in between pieces of the bone with no exit would. So, she was definitely headed for surgery and some medical leave. The 6 attackers had all been taken out since they had assault rifles and were closing in on Sam and Chloe.
Andy was thinking about Chloe and said, "Wow, Price had a rough first day at 15. And here I thought my first day was horrible."
"Yeah… I think Sam would probably agree that he wishes he didn't see either of you on your first days at 15." Noelle said with a smirk.
Well… that made Andy wonder…
