CHAPTER 1: NEW GIRL
Annabeth
I huffed as I stabbed yet another hellhound. Only ten more left, I thought, leaning against Thalia's tree. I watched as Clarisse used her Maimer 2.0 to electrocute a few more hellhounds. Piper tag-teamed with Leo shooting fireballs to evaporate some dracanae. Percy hurried a demigod past the barrier into safety with Jason being his cover. Soon, after what seemed like an hour long struggle, I stabbed the last monster, leaving me covered in golden dust.
I wobbled back towards the Big House, dusting myself down, and seated myself on its porch, staring at its blue walls. Percy dropped herself right next to me. He groaned, mumbling about wanting blue cookies as a reward. I smirked, "You good Seaweed Brain?"
"Yeah. Anyway, what I was saying before the monster attack. I was thinking about next year…"
"If we survive that long."
"Yeah, if we survive that long, and we graduate…" Percy started twiddling his thumbs.
"Percy, since when did you think of the future? It's already so hard being a demigod." I laughed.
The door to the Big house swung open with Chiron wheeling out, the new demigod in tow. I jumped to my feet and gave the old centaur a smile, "How is she faring?"
Chiron chuckled, "She took it pretty well. She just needs someone to show her around. Come on, dear, this is Annabeth and her boyfriend Percy. Annabeth will show you around the camp."
The new demigod was definitely something else. Tiny scars and bruises peppered her tanned skin. Her black hair was cut ragged, as if by a sword, and dangled to her shoulder. Her blue-gray eyes glanced around the two senior demigods as if calculating a threat assessment of sorts.
The girl bowed a bit, nodding. I glanced at Percy, who extended a hand to the girl. He gave her a lop-sided smile, "Welcome to Camp Half-Blood. Sorry about the monsters back there. You should be safe here. If you need any help, feel free to ask me and Annabeth for some help."
He then turned towards me, "I have to go teach a class. I'll see you at dinner where I could continue what I was saying."
He gave me a peck on the check as I mumbled goodbye.
I turned back towards the new demigod and plastered a huge smile on my face. "So, I'm Annabeth, daughter of Athena. I'm sure Chiron told you about gods and demigods?"
The new girl nodded.
"Cool, now, I didn't catch your name…"
The girl fumbled a bit. She glanced at Chiron, who gestured for her to answer the question. "My name is, uh, Amelie. Um, Amelie Gray."
I smiled. "French name. Quite beautiful. Ready for the tour?"
The girl gave a weak smile.
"So, now, I should show you the cabins."
"Here is Cabin 1. Zeus's cabin." I gestured to the ornately decorated marble structure behind me. "Currently, our son of Zeus, Jason Grace, lives there, but that's it."
Amelie cocked her head, "I expected more children of Zeus. He was definitely the one to count on when it came to unexpected births amongst the women back then."
I raised an eyebrow. "- or so I've read."
The clouds began grumbling. Amelie looked up at the sky in annoyance, and even stuck her tongue out. I chuckled, "Yeah, the three big gods, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, made a pact to not have children for a few decades."
"Well, that turned out well."
"Yeah, well. There's quite a lot of children from the big three. Percy is actually a child of Poseidon."
"Has he been to Atlantis yet?" Amelie mumbled before making her way towards a roughly-painted red cabin with a bloody stuffed-boar's head hanging proudly on top of the matching door
"Ah, yes. The Ares cabin. Clarisse is the current head counselor for the Ares cabin. I recommend staying away from them if you want to survive your first week here unscathed."
Suddenly, the door burst open, with some Ares kids coming out in a line screaming bloody murder. Clarisse stepped out of the cabin last, her face immediately turning into a growl. "Prissy," the girl sneered. "Who's her?"
Amelie smirked, "Her name is Amelie. Nice to meet you, uh-"
"Clarisse," I supplied.
Said girl glared at me and then turned back to the new girl. "Initiation time."
She took Amelie into a chokehold, dragging her towards the bathrooms.
I sighed, "Clarisse, can we not scar the new demigods?"
"Shut it Prissy. If she's a demigod, she needs to toughen up."
Amelie smiled at me as much as she could through the chokehold. She gave me a small wave before proceeding to elbow Clarisse in the stomach, making the girl double over. Amelie wiggled out of Clarisse's arms and took one arm, bending it in an unnatural way. Clarisse grunted in pain. She punched Amelie using her free arm, only for Amelie to step-side, causing Clarisse to lose balance. Amelie took advantage and landed on Clarisse's back, pinning the girl with her arms behind her back.
I gaped, "How the- Amelie, get off Clarisse right now. Clarisse, don't give me that look. I think 'initiation' is over."
Amelie
I walked with the Hermes cabin towards dinner. That Ares girl from earlier, Clarisse I think, kept glaring at me as we walked towards the mess hall.
"So, new girl. Welcome to Cabin 11." A brown-haired kid came into my view, an impish face strewn across his face. His shorter look-alike came right next to him, mimicking his every view.
The first boy extended his hand with the other boy doing the same. "My name is Travis Stoll."
The look-alike said, "And my name is Connor Stoll."
I chuckled, "Hermes kids with the last name is Stoll? Stolen anything lately?"
Connor exclaimed, "I told you Travis! The new girl would totally understand the irony. She's perfect!"
Travis groaned, "I can't believe you're right. But, anyway, welcome to Camp Half-Blood. I know you got the tour from the big woman herself, Annabeth Chase-"
"She the leader of this camp or something?"
Connor nodded, "Yup, her and Percy Jackson."
"Yeah, I heard something about the 'Seven' from the other Hermes kids."
Connor chuckled nervously, "Yeah, it's a long story. There was a war. They helped save the day. Boom, boom, KAPOW! We beat big bad Gaea."
I nodded slowly, taking a seat with the rest of the Hermes kids at the Mess Hall. "Do you guys usually segregate by cabin?"
Travis nodded, "Yeah. Why do you ask?"
"Because last time I checked Annabeth and Percy weren't siblings…" I pointed at the couple currently laughing about something random at an abandoned table.
"Yeah, yeah. They're exceptions."
Exceptions. Interesting.
There was a big pounding of a hoof against marble. Everyone reverted their attention to now a fully-fledged centaur. I whispered, "Hades' beard, Chiron. That never gets old." I gave the old man a smile. His eyes twinkled before starting his speech, "Thank you everyone! Nice job today with the monster issue at Thalia's tree."
There were some grunts from the Ares' table. "Summer is almost over, three weeks left. Start thinking about your year plans." There were some groans. Chiron smiled brightly, "For now, however, we feast!"
The cheers returned and suddenly food began appearing on the tables. I glanced at my empty plate and cup. Connor, face full of food, said, "Just think about whatever you want to eat. It will appear."
I thought of my home, back on the island. Savannah. She really likes fish, didn't she? Suddenly, my plate was filled with steaming fish. I smiled, taking a bite out of it.
New world, new century, new demigods. I could get used to this.
"Okay, here's your bed." Travis gestured to a stained sleeping bag with toothbrushes and toothpaste. "This was all we could get for you."
I mumbled a thanks before opening up the sleeping bag.
Connor elbowed Travis, "Is it go time?"
Travis smirked, "Yeah. Let's go."
"Where are you guys going?" The siblings turned towards me, sweat dripping down their face.
Travis laughed nervously, "Just, uh, some supply runs…"
"Yup." Connor popped the 'p'
"Okayyy. I expected pranks, and stuff, but like-" I looked around the room, boredom plastered on my face. "Not what I expected from children of Hermes. Quite disappointed frankly." I huffed and began sliding into my sleeping bag.
Connor sighed, "Fine. You caught us. We were just going to pull a prank on the Athena cabin."
I grinned, "What kind of prank are we talking about?"
"Just go over there and get this spider into the cabin. Probably through the vents."
"That's it?" I said deadpanned. "What an elaborate prank…"
"Hey!" Connor exclaimed, "We kind of ran out of cash, so this plastic spider is all we've got." I glanced at the rubbery black spider currently resting in my hand. This was not going to fool anyone.
"Fine, fine." Connor started grinning from head to toe, jumping up and down like he was high (on sugar). "This is going to be good. Good luck, Tom Cruise!"
I rolled my eyes, and arrived at my destination, a tiny crevice underneath a window. I tried to push the spider through. I mumbled, "It's too fat." Mission Impossible indeed. Groaning, my fingers pushed the window up a bit, before closing the window fully. With the spider safely inside. I took a few steps back to watch the ensuing chaos.
About now. Right on schedule, a cacophony of girlish screams erupted from Cabin Six. The door ripped open as a bunch of blondes poured out in various states of undress. Some had towels wrapped around their heads; some had their shirt on backwards; and some even had a toothbrush in their hair and a comb in their mouth.
I looked around for Annabeth until I realized she was nowhere to be seen. Percy came barreling into the cabin, slamming the door behind him. Before the door closed, I saw Annabeth cowering in the corner, clutching herself as she rocked back and forth. My grin immediately fell. A kid that Annabeth introduced to me earlier (Malcolm, I believe?) whispered, "She's not getting better. That place really did a number on her."
Another blonde kid nodded sadly.
Percy and Annabeth came out, literally holding onto each other. Percy held the object of the Athena kids' fears. He said, "Don't worry. It was only a prank, a fake spider. Now, who exactly do I know plays pranks quite frequently."
His eyes hardened onto two culprits, who have forgotten they were there in the first place. The Stoll brothers looked at each other before running, yelling over their shoulders, "It wasn't us! It was her!"
They pointed in my general direction. Thousands of eyes glared at me, and most of all, the hardest stare came from Percy. A wicked gleam came from behind him. A sword.
I sighed, putting my hands up. The pair approached me with everyone else forming a circle around us. I took a peak at Annabeth's state. She was tugging at Percy's shirt.
Percy pointed his sword at me. In a low growl, he whispered, "Why."
I raised an eyebrow, keeping my cool. "Are you asking a question here or…?"
Percy lunged, but Annabeth put a hand on his chest. She looked me dead in the eye, as if trying to read me. "She didn't know better. Leave her be. I'm disappointed yes, but she thought it was just a harmless prank." They turned away, hobbling together.
I furried my eyebrows in worry, "Have you considered therapy?"
The pair stopped a bit, before continuing in the direction of the Poseidon Cabin.
Campers started dissipating, returning from wherever they were. Soon I was left alone.
I looked up at the sky, a cloud rolling past the dim moon. I laughed, a hand going through my hair. "I found a cabin just like you Savannah, deathly afraid of spiders. Even after the centuries we have experienced, it seems you can't escape that. And I can't escape my punishment."
So I'm back! And this is being revamped. With an actual good plot and storyline. With improved writing. So, this is basically a version of Terra Storm (a crossover between Young Justive and PJ) that is more streamlined for just Percy Jackson. So expect the plot to diverge a bit.
Eat. Sleep. Read. Repeat! ; )
