Ct-9843 looked out over his company. No one spoke. They had done as they were ordered to. Ordered to kill the Jedi. Laying in there bunks, it was typically time to go to the mess. No one felt like it. They had been sent on a mission to find a padawan lost on coruscant. CT-9843 gritted his teeth. He could still see the young human's face light up in joy as her supposed saviours came to rescue her. Then he'd raised his blaster, and the smile fell.

CT-9843 was a murderer. A murderer of a child. Shaking him out of his sober thoughts, his brother's sharp breath caught his attention. CT-9842 or Clasp it sounded like. Or it could really be anyone else.

"Kinks. Are you awake?"

Yup. Clasp it is.

"Yeah Clasp, I'm awake."

"Listen. I know you're our Sargent but... Your also my brother. Can I be honest with you?"

Here it comes.

"Our orders stand Clasp. Kill all the Jedi. They are the traitors whether we personally think so or not." That came out harsher than expected.

"If the emperor says that they are traitors then they are." Kink reassured himself. It didn't work.

Clasp suddenly stood up and Kink saw that he was trembling. Kinks own fear welled up. All his doubts burst into his mind again.

"She wasn't even 10!"Clasp yelled, "If we let her live then she would barely remember her training."

Now the others in their bunk were waking.

"She was a Jedi. She fought with us troopers. She was part of the people that attempted to murder the chancellor."

Clasp was raging, pacing between the door and the bunks. Abruptly he turned and looked into his eyes. It was like nothing Kinks had ever seen. Pain and regret churned within his very soul.

"Exactly," He whispered, "She, a child. Served beside us and saved our lives."

CT-9841, or Quick, Piped in uneasily."Clasp might be right. I mean what harm could one child be."

Kinks gaped, his Sargent instinct kicking in.

"You're all committing treason! I should shoot you for this." Kinks could have cried. What had he just said? He could never harm his brothers.

Then everyone stood up. Clasp, Quick, kilo, lost. They stood glaring at him.

Clasp stared in pain at their brother, "Do it then. I'm leaving this murderous Empire." He looked around at the others."We all are."

Kinks stood in horror. The whole world seemed to grow dim. His brothers. Traitors. Kinks barely even registered them leaving. They gathered their stuff and walked out. Kinks staggered back against the wall and slid down into a crouched position and let hot tears pool down his face. This couldn't be happening. Kinks sat their until far past his morning duties until Commander Cody barged into his bunker enraged.

"What the Kriff are you doing here. Your duties started at 06:30hrs." His voice faltered as he took in the broken trooper.

"They left." Kinks said in a hollow voice."I couldn't stop them."

"You should have killed them." Cody starkly replied.

"I can't kill a brother."

His Commander stared, "That's treason."

"You could kill a brother?"

"I would if he was committing treason."He replied in a warning tone.

Kinks shook his head from his position on the floor."I couldn't."

"That's treason. Sargent, are you committing treason?"

"No Sir, I just don't think I could kill a brother."

"So you let them go?"

"I...couldn't stop them."

Cody raised his blaster, "Then your committing treason."

Then Boil walked in.

"Commander Cody, what's going on here?"

"Kinks commit treason by letting his troopers go after they deserted."

Boil considered the statement then looked at the broken trooper on the floor. Kinks glared at the floor without looking up then hurriedly blurted out.

"Kill me then. Obviously... being brothers means nothing to you."

Boil glanced at Cody and then back at Kinks.

"If you want to leave. Go now. You won't have another chance." Cody warned.

Kinks stood up. Grabbing his helmet, blaster and single personal item he left, found his brothers and never looked back.
